9175rock Well, I'm 73 and assuming I am included in your "you all" group, I can tell you that this old man is very clear about the difference between R&R and soul music and I love them both. Labelle performed both kinds of music. I do feel that the R&R hall of fame doesn't help much to define the difference by inducting performers who are clearly from other genres of music than R&R. Labelle is my favorite female vocal group of all time but I think the likelihood of them getting into the R&R hall of fame is slim. This is because groups that have been inducted have been mostly "mega" groups with lots of commercial success behind them. If the focus was on talent, I have no doubt that Labelle would have been inducted a long time ago. I think, regardless of your talent, it is hard to get attention when you don't have a lot of commercial success under your belt. Sorry, I know this rant got a bit off topic
I recently contacted the Rock an Roll Hall of fame concerning these Divas. They wrote back with no definite answer!! I'll give it a few weeks, and write them again. These beautiful Divas totally deserve to be in the Rock an Roll Hall of fame!!! Let's make it happen!!!
Are you kidding? Neither of those groups have the vocal abilities of Patti, Nona, and Sarah. Beyonce can get it in a little bit, but NOT like Patti. Besides, this was back in the early 70's and LIVE, and you can tell their performance is Natural. They simply have it. The Supremes was mostly about Diana, and her vocal abilities cannot match either of these ladies. She can sing FOR SURE, but belt it out with the power of these ladies, No! Today, Patti and Nona are still PUTTING IT DOWN like they did back then. Sarah did not accomplish that much as an individual artist, and her voice isn't as strong today, but she can still HANG IN THERE! I hate that I did not download a lot of their videos that were on here years ago, they have been deleted, but seeing them sing like that back then, and the crowd going CRAZY, there is a big difference in their talent and vocal abilities.
not even on their best day would that ever happen...pure singing...they were a super group without even knowing it...check their careers after parting ways...no disrespect but this is unfiltered soul here compared to Destiny's Child's production...the Supremes are in second place out of the three...this is real SOUL music from the church, it's a lost art in the main stream
I miss the videos of them singing several of their hits from back then that have been deleted where their vocal abilities definitely prove how talented they are, and considering those performances were done in the 70's, no group today can compare. There was also another one of Patti by herself on the Johnny Carson show in a black dress with a yellow panel in the middle where she sings "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", and Johnny was speechless.....!!! Dang it, I hate that I did not record all of them.
The first R&B black girl groups to have the headline singer. The first black R&B girl group to perform live on UK television. The first R&B black girl group to have a member leave for another female girl group.
Wow this is one of my favorite Labelle songs of all time and I had no idea that they ever sang this live, and it has been on RUclips for a decade is really blowing me away. Today is a good day.
There isnt and I doubt there ever will be. What most people don't realize about LaBelle was that they were not a solo artist with backup singers. They were three solo synchronous voices that were perfectly matched. Paaah-lease, these chicks today need to take out a note pad and get schooled on what a real female vocal group is
3 powerful women singing, this is what you call a super group, A writer, 3 singers, holding each other down, What an amazing performance. They performed the hell out this song, it's better than the studio version, in my opinion! # Real talent
This is my jam. I thought the RECORDING was FIYAH. They are slaying this. In harmony but you can distinctly hear each voice. It works nicely!!! I love it!!
socialchronic Just to give you some history & incredible music - the Over The Rainbow version everyone loves is from Patti LaBelle &The Bluebells, around 1952 ish when they were a quartet. Cyndi Birdsong left The Bluebells to join The Supremes after Flo Ballard was forced out. Have a BLAST of a time diggin' thru the Old Stuff & ALLLLL of the Solo Music of Nona, Sarah & Patti! 😎 Don

This is only one phase in the "Evolution of Miss Patti LaBelle". Those who became fans of Patti only after she started having solo megahits ("If Only You Knew" & forward) need to see this!!!! While the powerful vocals are already familiar, through this video, they'll see how those moves of Miss LaBelle came to be... In every aspect, Patti, Nona and Sarah were the perfect blend.

This aint rock n roll.
9175rock try telling Nona Hendrix that they weren't a rock group!
Black ppl created what you all have taken and call/renamed Rock and Roll. However, it's always been SOUL.

Ditto.
They pissed
Nona with her belted soul, Sarah with her piercing soprano, and of course Ms Patti with her emotionally charged delivery all equaled Labelle! ❤🎉
There’s another live version on RUclips also. Check it out.
Don't think there's another female vocal group who could out sing them ever.
