Had to pause after 20 "The One" was originally completely developed for Dwayn Johnson, he decided to get that sweet "Scorpion King" money instead. Someone on the film was friends with Jet Li or new his Agent (can't remember which) anyway they had to scrap the entire script to re-write it for Jet's character who is no longer a brawler like Dwayne would have been but a Martial Artist. The buget also got cut once Dwayne backed out, this little film went through a lot but on the big screen back in the day it looked cool. Jason Statham was also introduced to a lot of people from this movie & they worked together again on "War". In the end it's a simple but good story that keeps you going till the whole Yulaw vs Yulaw fight I'd give it 3 Kung Fu Kicks out of 5.
I LOVE this kind of list, bubba. I watched Osmosis Jones with my eldest son on my lap (he's completely grown now). He chuckled so hard he almost fell off multiple times. Everything Must Go was a HUGE surprise when I watched it, which was only because of Will Farrell, but honestly it was so good, in that small-movie kind of way. I loved seeing him give an emotional, dramatic performance, the supporting cast was great, it had those elements of human folly that aren't hard to connect with, just great. I'm reasonably familiar with most of the rest and they're awesome especially Devil's Advocate, Big Fish, and Once Upon a Time in Mexico... I have NOT been aware of Sorry to Bother You before and REALLY look forward to it.
BTW If you're really into weird westerns, Sukiyaki Western Django is on Prime (and several other services including Peacock) now. And yes, Tarrantino is in that movie. It has a TON of allusions to The Seven Samurai, including being set IN Japan, and it's weird and awesome.
One of the bizarre things about the history of Starship Troopers is that a lot of the critics, even Siskel and Ebert did not realize that it was a satire.
Never fails. Your “weirdest” lists always gives me the most movies I’ve seen and liked and the most unseen flics that get added to my watch next list. Thanks. Keep the lists coming.
The first time I saw Big Fish was also one of my first memories of my dad crying and just after my papa’s death. I loved the movies and my first experience with bittersweet whimsy.
I read the book I’m Thinking of Ending Things and they took out some of the creepiest and best parts. Creepy monster hanging outside her room, brutal suicide at the end (I guess that was the dancing?) and creepy phone calls. I made my husband watch the movie because I was excited and I apologized to him at the end lol *I think I’ve realized that I like the idea of watching weird movies, but they never pan out for me 😆
I was sort of neutral on watching the movie, but I didn't know it was based on a book. Thanks for the recommendation - I'm going to check out the book instead!😊
Big Fish was originally a Steven Spielberg film. He had to drop out fairly last minute and they needed a big name director. Burton was available and hopped on, adding some of his usual flair. The combo worked very well.
I love THE ONE. I don't think the look is dated so much as it is stylized. THE RENTAL seems like an odd inclusion in that it isn't very odd in a world where 13 CAMERAS exists. CAM was surprisingly good; would make a cool double feature with X. Also since you're the same age as I am, it's hard to imagine you don't remember the Scary Stories books. Those were scholastic book fair staples.
Avoided them at first because I didn’t think they would be very good, until I saw your suggestion- and now they are two of my favorites to recommend to others- Creep and Creep 2. They are excellent and fun to watch- Mark DuPlasse is mesmerizing.
The description of "everything must go" had me thinking you were going to mention "stranger than fiction" which is also a great Will Ferrell movie that is also really weird
That was an AWESOME WONDERFULLY WEIRD FILMS RECOMMENDATIONS, Darren. Ones that I’ve seen and can 100% recommend include:- The One, The Block Island Sound 🤯, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 🤯, The Men Who Stare at Goats, The Bad Batch 🤯, Creep 1&2 🤯, Devil’s Advocate 😈, The Quick & The Dead, Starship Troopers 🤯 & Once Upon a Time in Mexico 💥💥. Many thanks for sharing this FLICK CONNECTION with us. Newsletter is fabulous and highly recommend subscribers signing up for this. See you on your next presentation 👍👍👍
Interesting choices. My favorites are ‘The One’ and ‘The men who stare at goats’. Fred Ward died recently. I always like to see him in ‘Remo Williams’. What a classic. RIP Thank you for your talent and time. Good evening 🌞
One interesting bit of trivia from the Quick and the Dead is a brand new lens was invented around the time it was released and the director somehow was able to use it. The lens is able to keep the foreground and background in perfect focus in one shot. This movie uses it in several key scenes and it's fantastic. I've seen this technique used over the years very well but it always has a flaw because you simply can't do it without a lens trick that causes a "blurry" spot vertically between the two shots. If you watch this movie keep an eye out for those scenes. I believe this movie is the first release date that used it. p.s. I've seen nearly every movie on this list, some are favs I've seen a dozen times. I will try to watch the ones I haven't seen on the list. Watching The Rental now because it was on one of your other lists.
Loved Deception and Wicker Park from your last show, and I'm looking forward to watching a few from this list as well. I dig strange and unusual movies, especially if they're dark. The Block Island Sound intrigues me, and I'm going to give Crimson Peak another watch (as I couldn't get into it the first time around). Creep is definitely worth another watch, as it absolutely lived up to its name. Some other great movies on this list. Once Upon a Time in Mexico is a classic, and it's never a bad thing to watch Selma Hayek bounce around in tight clothes.
Block Island Sound is interesting, it is good, but too ambiguous, too many movies are such nowadays, one can't understand what the hell is going on...sure, you can speculate, it is interesting as a theme for conversation, but it bothers me that so many films are left without a definitive conclusion. Maybe it is just my taste, but I think that at some moment, as the rule is, near the end of the movie dots should be connected.
@@ozymandiasnullifidian5590 I love movies like that, where you have a mystery for your mind to chew on, while the movie leaves a lot up to the imagination of the viewer. Sounds like my kind of movie (pun intended). Thanks for the input!

This is totally off topic for this video, but “The End of the F***ing World” is such a great series to watch on Netflix. I would definitely recommend any movie buff to watch it.
I'm not often unnerved by representations of "ultimate evil" in movies, Al Pacino in Devil's Advocate straight-up gave me nightmares. Soooo creepy and smarmy....
Watched The Rental off your recommendation a couple of weeks ago. Was pleasantly surprised. That ending. Wow. Read that Franco had a strong idea for a sequel. I would watch that in a heart beat.
Thank you for not giving any spoiler for Sorry to bother you. One of my favorites. You missed Killing of sacred deer. I think You have recommended it once in one of your older video about weird movies.
Everything Must Go is such a damn good movie and shows Will's potential. When I first watched it I was a huge fan of his and I heard so many good things about the movie but obviously with most of his movies you know what you're getting into and even though this is more of a serious film for him I loved it so damn much and always recommend it. It's something you don't really expect from him and even if you're a Will Ferrell hater, you should be able to enjoy it. It really shows his versatility as an actor. With that being said if you put many comedy actors in a serious role most of them tend to do a pretty damn good job.
I always appreciate whenever you mention who directed the movies you recommend and was a little confused why you didn't mention Sam Raimi when suggesting The Quick & The Dead. Just an oversight I suppose but I think your viewers might be more drawn to watch it if they knew who directed it. Great flick but I wouldn't really call it "weird". Maybe it's just me, but I'm pretty picky when it comes to weird. I've seen 13 out of 20 from this list so I'll try and narrow that margin down. Thanks for what you do. I'll keep watching as long as you keep making these videos. ✌
you know me DVD, I love to fw the weird lists! but of all of the ones I have seen on this list sorry to bother you, is sooo good! maybe it's a thinking man's stoner movie? it's obvy not about 420 per say, but the production team HAD to have imbibed some while making it! and his gfs earrings are an awesome running gag!
