I'm your host, Darren Van Dam!
Tired of looking for good movies to watch on Netflix, Amazon Prime or other streaming services? Every week I recommend a handful of the best movies on Netflix, Amazon, HBO etc. so my subscribers never run out of good movies to watch on streaming. Spending 10 minutes watching one of my videos could save you hours of searching, hours that you could otherwise spend watching good movies on streaming that you otherwise might not have ever watched or even known about.
Thanks for watching! Развлечения

So many incredibly disturbing movies on this list. Se7ven was my pick for #1 and I’m chuffed that you think so too!
Hey my fellow movie nut! I've done very well on this list Darren. Whats scary is how many I saw when they first came out in theater.
Christene was an amazing film. I have serious crush on Rebecca Hall. My wife approved it.
Another great group of films. I remember when everyone was shitting themselves when the Life of Brian came out. George Harrison put up the money to make it.
Happy move viewing all!
Ok, you've got me curious. Only #4 would I (personally/imo) come close to calling "shocking" or "controversial" ( and that may mostly be due to how young I was when I initially watched it). And clickbaiting isn't really your style, so I'm looking forward to hearing your reasoning on these picks. Especially since I did enjoy the majority of these films.
Life of Brian underrated?
More like a well known masterpiece
If I were to name an underrated and lesser known Monty Python movie, I'd go with Erik the Viking
Hands down the very best of Monty Pythons. Its superficially sacrilegious for those "not" paying attention, though I don't find it so at all. And the crap they were poking fun of the mid 70's are even more relevant today in 2022!
Yeah. I wouldn’t have ever said Life of Brian was underrated. It didn’t have the success that Quest for the Holy Grail did(I don’t think) but it was still pretty popular.
@@Gumdaar1 I still think Quest is their best.🤷🏻♂️
One of my all time favorites!
I don’t know if this would count but the 131-minute documentary film “THE GIRL IN THE PICTURE” is really disturbing and heart breaking.
Love that you do your ads with the product in-hand! Well done.
Thank you for all the time you spend finding movies for us!!! It's so fun hearing you describe the movie enough that I can for an opinion.
Love the picks! Great choices! Thank you as always for your suggestions!
I, too, absolutely loved "Bad Words"! Think I've watched it at least five times-terribly underrated.Very much agree with top two pics. Two of my fave go-to movies when I don't feel like watching anything. Excellent list.
Subscribed!
You were so right about the movie "Martyrs" because I saw it a while ago after seeing your list and that movie is filed in the back of my brain, but every once in a while I remember a little snippet. It just stays with you for a while.
Did you watch Irreversible? That's another one that'll linger in your mind.
Martyrs crushed my soul. It is definitely a hard hitter.
Ayyee it’s been like a year since I’ve stopped by, happy to see you still making videos. They’re definitely still helpful when idk what to watch lol. Keep growing DVD!
Awesome video, some real gems here, and some I haven't seen yet. I always think of A Clockwork Orange as a kind of personality litmus test. I've shown this to a lot of people, and I can learn a lot about them based on their reactions to it. Really, it's kind of eerie. Haven't seen Christine, but recommend Kate Plays Christine. So glad I gave Boogie Nights a shot, but it took There Will Be Blood (one of my all-time favorite movies) to get me to give it a go. Natural Born Killers is so wonderful, and Oliver Stone's mark is clear as day on it to me. Compare it with Scarface (I know De Palma directed it, but Stone wrote it) and you'll see the similarities about, IMO, a total upending of "The American Dream"...not to mention the violence. Love Eyes Wide Shut; showed it to my wife as a Christmas movie (seriously). And just watched Blonde. Absolutely amazing. I'm convinced all the outrage is overblown...all of it. It's not really a biopic, but a fictional examination of the "myth" of Marilyn Monroe. Also gave me some flashbacks to Raging Bull in its style at times. This may be the best movie of the year (although it'll be neck and neck with Everything Everywhere All At Once).
What does it say about me that I've seen 10+ of these movies? Wasn't sure if I was going to watch Blonde but it will be on my list. Haven't seen This is the End so I'm off to do that. Thanks for all you do for us Darren!
Solid list. Thanks for always recommending us hidden treasures
Brad Pitt has been my all time favorite actor for years!! That man can play ANY role and he’s epic at them!! You can’t say he’s a bad actor-if you’ve seen his movies he’s so diverse!! He can go from being in a weird role-12 Monkeys-to something that’s completely opposite of that-like A River Runs Through It. And the fact that he’s not bad on the eyes is great too lol
I wish people would put some of the energy from reactions to Cuties towards child beauty pagents. I have to say as a dancer there are dance moves that you learn young that are sexy. Mostly because you need to build up that muscle memory when you are younger. However, we never performed those moves on stage or for an audience until we were older.
Excellent recommendations, I have 8 of these in my collection and while controversial they are all excellent. Your # 1 and 2 picks are spot on!
What an awesome list!
Thanks!
I love your list! Damn good picks!
Fantastic controversial films list, Darren. SE7EN is the definite #1. Many thanks for sharing this FLICK CONNECTION with us. Take care and see you soon 💎💎💎
The Sinner: Season 4 has been the BEST thing I have watched on Netflix in a long time. Those writers are damn good! Extremely complex story with sub-stories that all wind together in a mind blowing ending!
I’ve seen all 3 seasons of The Sinner and I’m about to watch number 4 can you tell me what it’s about plz?
I just finished that yesterday and liked it a lot -- much better than other seasons.
@@Terry-lh8cn what was this one about?
@@stephess6618 Dark secrets amongst a lobster fishing community on an island off of the Maine coast.
@@Terry-lh8cn thank u for getting back to I actually watched the whole season 4 a few days ago and it was alright I have to be honest I thought the first season was the best one if that’s the one with Jessica Biel and her sister was sick and their mom was really religious. That one was crazy
Sup brotherman
Been watching you for 50 years from the near future and society has run a muck, I’ve been watching in my leisure time and appreciate every movie on this particular list. It all comes
Across crystal clear and comes across very modest especially when written by quinten tarantino (even tho he assaulted that guy on camera outside that dennys or whatever)
Anyway absolutely fantastic, thank you for ur service.
Goodness! What a list. Some I have seen. Most I have not. I don’t have the stomach for the most. Great video. Thank you for your work. Good evening. 😳🥺
I remember first watching a clockwork orange when lived in Germany from VHS rental store in late 90's, as Stanley Kubrick's set imposed ban (from 1973) was still in place in the UK where I am from, it was such shot in the arm of film making for my mind
Great list! 👍
Your sponsered part of the video is the only one Ive ever watched on anybody's channel because I'm always searching for good beard products
Always entertaining, thanks DVD
1984??? YOU'RE A BABY! ERMIGOSH!
Great recommendations. I don't think I've seen one of these movies, so I learned a lot watching this top-20 list.
Darren loves his beard sooooooooooo much!
I sat through Cuties to see what the clamor was about, and ultimately the theme was about how we do sexualize young girls in pop culture forcing them to try to grow up too quickly to fit in. The dancing was very uncomfortable at a few points, but it was making a point about the girls were imitating what they were watching in music videos. (They actually mimic real music video moves and shows the videos where they learned them). I agree the Netflix marketing completely undermined the theme of the story, aka Stop sexualizing young girls and let them be young girls, and where the movie is hard to watch at times, it really makes it's point well.
So did I. I only watched it, as you say, to see what the fuss was about. The movie is by far not as contorversial, as all the prudish American youtubers claim and in my opinion, it lead to much more interest, than the movie deserves. I also agree, that the poster was a very bad decision.
I think this guy completely misses the point of movies like this. The movie poster gets the across perfectly. You SHOULD feel uncomfortable when you see this poster. This guy’s delicate sensibilities aside.
Maybe I’m hyper sensitive to particular subjects but Christine left me with chills after it ended great film !
You #1 pick was 100% I still think about 7 I saw it when it first came out, Great job!
Clockwork is one of my favorite movies of all times. The Burgess novel is different from the movie, but each stands on its own as a classic in their respective disciplines. I know this was for Netflix, but the series on McAfee is much better with regards to his life and shenanigans if you are interested in him (and his shenanigans).
Sadly, the dystopian future envisioned has become the everyday reality in cities like San Francisco, New York, and Chicago. Let's hope America can do better then the ending of the movie/book.
Thanks for the info
War Machine was a much better satire than I had envisioned. It is pretty effective in illuminating the lack of strategic vision in the US intervention in Afghanistan. Brad Pitt’s performances in War Machine and Seven demonstrate his impressive range.
happy to say, ive already watched most of these.. not all... some just havent had the time.. but.. looking forward to a few..
great list of films with some real gems in there i had forgotten about and need to watch again lol, i disagree with ur point about the ending of Se7en tho, luvd the way the film built the tension up with each death but the ending felt like a big cop out to me and it kinda soured me on the whole experience, gonna watch it again with older eyes and see if my perspective changes but either way thanks for the time and effort u put into making the vid its much appreciated
Dam bro, you went gray pretty fast! I got 20 on ya and still not even that gray. lol Thanks for the reviews!
Awesome recommendations! NBK is probably one of my all time favs!
First time I sold plasma way back in the 80's, the girl working on me was wearing a "Clockwork Orange" t-shirt - ah, the old Seattle 🤣
Great list!
As a True Crime lover and someone who watched every single episode of Dateline on ID and 48 Hours, its unnerving how many times a murder was compared to Natural Born Killers movie. Some "couple" killers even confessed they watched it together to get amped up before the acts. That tells you something.
Many serial killers own that movie, Godfather and or Scarface on some form of media 😎
@@qanondon2100 doubt you can really find a direct correlation, given that many PEOPLE own these movies on some form of media since they are some of the most popular films to this day.
@@qanondon2100 - i am a cereal killer, and the southwestern u.s. are my dumping grounds; bran flakes is my partner in crime...
It was a great movie. Pretty ironic fact
Someone should put together a checklist of all the typical media consumed by serial killers.
As usual, I have either seen a lot of your recommendations or added them to my watchlists while watching your reviews. I really enjoy this channel and share a lot of your tastes... but I may have to quit you, I just cannot keep up! Not enough time in the day. Kidding aside, please keep up the great work.
“The green inferno is somewhat consumable.. GREAT choice wording there DVD 😉
Darren- big respect for how you handled and took a worthy stance on 'cuties'. I bizarre and dubious move on NF's part. Hopefully the measurable repulsion teaches the execs not to explore the lowest road possible.
Bad words is an underrated 💎 the first 2 minutes of the movie is a riot 💯
"If you don't turn around RN, I'm going to go tell the Captain your bag is ticking". 🤦🏼♂️😆
hey Darren!! big fan of your channel was wondering if you've ever seen the hills run red(2009)
Clockwork Orange is a film I just saw for the 1st time recently. I was encapsulated, and it's a masterpiece. Especially the dialogue was rich
Zero Dark Thirty might be one of my favorite movies. Last 10 minutes are amazing. And Se7en, everything about this movie is perfect.
Good job in the list. I agreed with most of the top ten, and especially with the the top five. (I have not seen a couple.) I admit that it is not available on Netflix, so not in the theme of this video, but one of the toughest films I have watched in recent years was a little known called Unthinkable. This is with Samuel Jackson and Carey Ann Moss. This film ranks right up there with Se7en and Clockwork Orange. Took a couple of tries just to get through the film, but I stayed because of the provocative theme and the compelling performances.
I agree. A top-level performance from Michael Sheen.
Please do a video on the hidden mysteries in Eyes Wide Shut. Thanks for the great videos.
Jay Dyer covers a lot about it
@@verntweld51 thanks, I will search for that.
Great video
Great tutorial!
Question: Does not watching 'Cuties' stop 'dance moms' from presenting their children in 'That way'?
The Green Inferno would do gangbusters if it was rereleased today.
Boogie Nights is an all time favorite with maybe the best cast from top to bottom of any movie ever made!
I wouldn’t say the best cast but it definitely had a very good one.
You are way on point, (clap clap). If you don't know half these films, (especially the top 10) you are missing out.
The weird editing in Blonde reminds me of that truly bizarre movie called JFK in the 90s.
The guy who wrote the screenplay to Se7en graduated from the same high school that I did.
Thanks for this list. I’ll watch them all.
I’ve always loved Boogie Nights and 7 and Natural Born Killers. Great List. I’ll have to give Eyes Wide Shut another watch.
I love Life of Brian! I saw A Clockwork Orange when it came out.
Seven is probably my all-time favorite move ever!
Thanks for the list! I've added some new things to watch along with some of my old faves (I'm looking at you Se7en). Sadly, Boogie Nights is no longer available right now. Neither is another fave, Zodiac. OH! And if the movie Cuties is the French one, they have changed the cover photo! My advice to those not wanting to watch certain movies: DON'T WATCH. Cancelling your Netflix because you are offended is the dumbest thing ever.......Think about all the really offensive shite on EVERY streaming service out there! xoxo
PS: Fabulous beard!!
Don't know if they were ever on Netflix but Irreversible and Martyrs make everything you mentioned like child's play!
Probably a million comments like this one but Ari Aster's films are next level and I believe Midsommar is on Netflix (Hereditary is bonkers too)...insides feel damaged after watching his stuff. Great list though, bring on the nightmares!
point of correction: Life of Brian was about the baby born in the stable NEXT TO Christ and who is haphazardly mistaken for A messiah throughout the course of his life.
There was a movie i ran across name Megan is Missing, I swear no other movie has ever disturbed me more than that one. Please talk and review that one day!! Kinda gives B movie, but it stuck with me for years!!!
For the first 5 minutes of this video I thought this was the dude off Gas Monkey garage. Oh well still good video. Watching it now
Super review. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
@@DarrenVanDam Yep... I've only seen Seven, but now I want to see more
Zero dark thirty is an excellent movie.
I remember watching Seven in theaters I was blown away. Must watch!
Except it’s not on Netflix.
I've never seen what the fuss is about. It's on a par with Memento and The Bone Collector for me. Not that it's bad; it's good, but nothing amazing.
Personally, so long as 100% of it was Consensual between Performers and Artists; I thought Blonde to be Solid. I've Scene Better Biographies though at the (exact) same time.
Ana's Third Best Role (imo) Behind 2049 and the Grey Man..
Oh gosh i definitely loved the movie Blonde, the intensity, the Cosmetic transformation, and performance. Plus it was from the perspective of Marylin type of angle and that was a big change from any other marylin monroe story.
Yeah, it was complete bull s h i t
I really liked it too.
It's completely different because it's based on fiction, not the actual story.
i can't imagine ANYbody but Morgan Freeman playing his part in SE7EN.. sorry Denzel!
I would add Spike Lee's 'Oldboy' in there somewhere , great list, I enjoyed the video.
that movie really got to me in a I want to throw up way. yuck.
The original Oldboy is light years better.
I absolutely love the movie sev7n… “what’s in the box, what’s in the box”
(And call me whatever you want, I certainly don’t care, I’m just correcting a misunderstanding… The 7 deadly sins isn’t a Christian belief. It’s not in the Bible, it came from Catholicism, from Pope Gregory in 590AD, definitely not a Christian belief) Just keeping it real, people.😁
Your voice and intonation are just like that of motorcycle RUclipsr CycleCruza!
“They” edited Eyes Wide Shut. Good list and a few I haven’t seen. Thanks for your efforts.
That was my impression also.
And wasn't the editing done after Scorsese's death?
@@scottedelen Scorsese is 79. He's not dead. Do you mean Kubrick?
@@rogermichaelwillis6425 said "Scorsese is 79. He's not dead. Do you mean Kubrick"
Well now that's a little embarrassing!
Yes, I meant Kubrick.
Thanks for the heads up.
Seven was absolutely amazing I’ve see that movie 100 times and it always is so good. And the only thing missing in marlyn was a good spread 🐱 shot
The thing about Cuties (honorable mentions) is that the original poster, the French one, the non-American one, had a much more reasonable poster than actually showing the girls in a sexualized way. America is conservative about sexuality than Europe seems to be, yet Netflix crossed a very wide line to depict that one.
Only if it's the original ending of Clockwork Orange. Cutting the final 30 or so seconds entirely changes the effect of the movie.
Shame the original Bad Lieutenant isn't on Netflix, would have been a great addition.
Found it on Amazon. I like Harvey Keitel. I think I'll watch it tonight. Thanks.
I had no idea Gerald's Game was made into a movie. I started to read the book...and realized what was going to happen and stopped. Read the Mist instead.
I'm 48 years old and have no children of my own. That said, The opening scenes of BLONDE are very difficult and disturbing to get through. I can't stand watching children suffer. Its heartbreaking. Marilyn Monroe was definitely a unicorn in her day
Gerald's game is a great movie. Carla Gugino's performance is very good. Monster is amazing but it does feel a little long, not that it is.
Bad words is my favorite Jason Bateman film. War machine completely threw me off guard in a good way. And The Green inferno has always been my guilty pleasure. It's my fried Twinkie.
Just thought I would share Boogie Nights is not on Netflix. I was kinda looking forward to it after this review. I have never seen it, unfortunately. Seems like it left back in September.
#1; sEVEN - Yes... 100% agree. It was so good... even if your not someone who would watch something like this (it's not a horror movie), it's a must watch.
Seven was a great movie
Yes... Monster w/Charlize is a stellar film. While I don't disagree, the makeup does a lot of the heavy lifting, I do have to admit I was so entranced with the intensity of Theron's performance. An absolutely absorbing film and one of my favorites in spite of its dark subject matter
Bad words is a Great movie, irreverent but funny as hell
I looooved Bad Words sooo much! Made me laugh non-stop!
hello! Heather Graham in Boogie Nights!!! how did you not mention her!
"What's in the BOX?!!!"
Nice list. Be a shame if someone binged them 🤣
I was surprised to not see this particular movie, which is, what I believe to be, a very disturbing rendition of an equally disturbing book. I learned of this book when I was in high school, listening to one of my favorite up & coming bands The Police.
"Don't Stand So Close to Me" has a line 'Just like the, old man in, that book by Nabikov'. Vladimir Nabikov wrote 'Lolita', and the 1997 movie of the same name is what I'm writing about.
It's a very creepy subject, and the girl who portrays Lolita, does a magnificent job. Watching Lolita gave me the 'heebee jeebees' on the same level as Rosemary's Baby.
one of the darker, yet oddly gratifying films I've seen has to be Suspect O. Ben Kingsley is so believable as a Tortured anti-hero. I loved the performances so much that I wound up purchasing the DVD
your comment reminded me of another Ben Kingsley film I hadn't seen in a long time: Death and the Maiden.
@@brucenator That's great, that's one I have not seen yet, thank you very much for suggesting it 🙂
I don't find Se7en on Netflix, and IMDB indicates it's on Peacock now. Did it move already?
It is on Peacock. I just added it to my list.
I love Christine, Seven and Boogie Nights.
You forgot to mention Boogie Nights is also based on John Holmes and the Wonderland Murders.
Wonderland was easily more disturbing than Boogie Nights.
@@nigelcorboy826 but none the less part of Boogie Nights is about that..
It’s just that one scene, not the whole movie.
“Somewhat consumable”
Nice
"SEVEN" HOLDS UP!!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
