Johann Pachelbel is happily asleep dreaming about his favorite piece when a sinister shadow emerges and suddenly plunges his dream into unspeakable horrors. Fighting for his timeless masterpiece's life, Johann conducts a glorious battle against the evil lurking in the depths of his mind, an eternal battle of courage and triumph that continues to this very day.
As always, thank you for listening.

Come to my next concert! www.musicalbasics.com/concerts
this is one of the best nightmares i have ever heard.
The only good nightmare
this dude should totally go on those crowdfunding sites and get a fucking Steinway
Let your Steinway to my house ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° )
lolololol
Seriously, this is incredible, it'd be amazing to hear this played with an actual piano.
Tony sounds about as good though a mic. I tend to find expensive pianos only show their true colours live.
Jan Viator fuck steinway. bechstein has much more sound. less brilliant, but easier on crescendo/ decrescendo.
Does anyone else find it extremely ironic that his channel is called musicalbasics?
animaSonus *slow claps* "basic" yeah, correct.
Lmfao ain't😂😂
At this point its a running gag XD
an expert pianist takes the fundamentals to a more complex level hence why musical basics
The first thing I noticed was his lack of music. As a musician, I know how difficult it is just to learn something like this, but to memorize it as well? This man is truly an amazing pianist.
Ah, that is true. I didn't think about that. Thanks.
He acually wrote this piece, and almost all the pieces on his channel.
ah you mean "absence of sheet music"..i read the first line and thought you were insulting his lack of "musical sense".. haha
Jango Harrison Just because most of his stuff isn't cantanible doesn't mean it isn't music.
Dale MacKinnon OC meant sheet music. Read replies before you comment next time so you don't embarrass yourself ^_^
but at what point, might i ask, did you ever post anything remotely basic on this channel
Sarah Klumpp I'll be going back to basics pretty soon :)
musicalbasics But... where is the fun in that. X3 I love this stuff soooooo much. I've been eating it up all day.
ikr
+musicalbasics I'd love to see more epic-ified renditions of classical classics like this and For Beethoven.
His channel is called musicalbasics yet he plays like a beast
Dude, you're gonna break that thing. Holy crap.
And it will be happy to be broken by the force of such talent. hahaha
It’s *_SHAKING_*
Get this man a grand piano
"get this man a shield"
An infinity war reference 3 years before infinity war, good job
IKR
Ori Levy sht thats right. i didn't even notice that
Lol now he does
The fact that years later even having not heard this song I know literally every part of the song note by note and the final pachelbels canon part makes me so giddy proves this dude just fucking owns music
Just proves to you that the quality of the music isn't about the the quality of the piano. However, I am still quite puzzled on how that piano is still in one piece.
Kevin Chen Well the piano is all sampled sounds from a real grand piano... In which case it won't feel as good to play, but will sound nearly the same.
no bro samples not same as realthing
"How that piano (...)"
Let me stop you right there. *Keyboard*.
It's not a piano though.
its a digital piano. I have that same one, just the next model. It feels a lot like a grand piano and sounds pretty good but not it is still not the same as a real one. but easier to move around and much more convenient
This guy is immensely talented, dontcha think?
Piano playing INTENSIFIES
+Alex Kim ayy nice satoru pic ;-;
just a li'l
He's not talented, he's asian.
Vince Apelacio (☞゚∀゚)☞ eeyyyy
i think this is my 1000th time listening to pachabels nightmare (seriously listening to this since 2012)
Wow. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ all the hearts for you. That makes me happy!
@@MusicalBasics 🎶🎶🎶🎹🎹🎹🙂🙂
Yeah, I'm gonna need some kind of proof that you're actually human.
At 4:05
Well, technically, asian is a species of human...
+The Boredom Cure Yes, but motor control on this level is not.
There is. Asians are superior. For example, there are very few whites in the world who can play like this.
Variousthings3251 "Asians and normals" -Do you see what you did there?
I don't get why you call yourself MusicalBasics... You brushed by the basics a long time ago....
Taran Kota Basics means my goal is to create music that connects with everybody's basic human emotions :) music has that power.
I can frankly say your doing a great job of that. Your music is so soothing, sometimes I use it to fall asleep. I especially liked "Fires of a Revolution" and "Gallop." Good luck on the music career!
Taran Kota "Basics means my goal is to create music that connects with everybody's basic human emotions" That is the most moving thing I have ever heard.
It would be "I have read"
musicalbasics How are we supposed to know that xD?
WHY aren't you playing at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, etc...Your talent far surpasses EVERYONE I've ever seen in NYC when I lived there. Not only your playing, but your compositions are text book, Chopin PERFECT!! I love them ALL. And your creative writings are also eloquently poetic. ox
I agree with most of your comment, but while his piece is technically demanding like some of Chopin's works, the contrapuntal and harmonic complexity of Chopin's works surpasses this piece in particular. This being said, I really enjoyed his take on Pachelbel's canon and will look into his other stuff.
Samuel Labrecque This video is definitely much more of a showcase in chops than anything specifically musically complex - but aside from going to minor and making some chords spicier, you can't really tamper w the progression too much or it stops being of the pachelbel variety.
I wouldn't say it's Chopin level, but it certainly is absolutely fantastic and the best personal composition I've ever heard on RUclips
This is a nightmare slam jam parody, why would he even go for Chopin which is essentially the opposite lol
He is
im surprised you can even hit the right key with how much the piano shakes when you play
Coz he is an Asian , not like me , Esian :')
You've got some super human skills going on here...super memory, supersonic speed, super duper composition and to top it all off, you got the feels! With this balance of masculine and feminine energies, you can move mountains, and move them you will!
This boy is an SCP, we need to secure his access to pianos... He's going to open a hole in reality.
i agree prepare for the take down!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XD jk obv
He's not an SCP, he just took the red pill and hacked the Matrix.
Nightlyfe Have you noticed the piano was shaking?
Secure, Contain, Piano
david hwang actually it's an E-piano, but a very basic one ^^
I've been playing piano for six years and have been watching thousands of piano videos on RUclips. I've gone to live concerts with Profesional musicians, but never have I felt what I felt listening to this piece. I am almost lost for words.
And here I thought this piece was going to be remotely easy to play. What was I expecting...
9:36 breaks my soul every time, it's so amazingly beautiful.
The song is a rollercoaster of emotions, it starts with the joy of being alive.
2:26 it transfers to describe the feeling when you discover something you've searched for your whole life and you start to build a dream around it.
5:29 you encounter the obstacles that'll unforgivingly and undoubtly emerge and you get to follow the path you take when hope and despair alternate each other.
7:53 is when you have given your last, the last attempt to mend everything and you'll find yourself in the same rollercoaster between your dreams and your nightmares.
9:36 is when you finally realize that nothing is meant to be forever, or maybe at all. You understand that the dreams you once had were futile and that they never were meant for you. This is where all hope end.
I really do understand why it's called nightmare.
Even though you might be referring to bringing the complexity of the song up several notches.
This is amazing, not only the piece, but the performance. The fact that you are able to preform at such high level without any mistakes for 10 minutes, simply a great performance!
btw, your forearms must be burning after all those runs :p
It's like the emotions of teenage Canon in D...
You would be great at creating soundtracks for movies, adding the perfect emotion and tone to go with the scenes. When I read your description, I imagined the guy who played for silent movies (picture a damsel in distress tied to the railroad tracks, then being rescued by her hero at the last second). =) I think it would have not been very easy to play without a break for the duration of an entire movie.
Creative Planet Janet I actually might use this guy's music in a videogame soundtrack,
But the game itself is still in thought and it's something completely original.

That closet to his right is likely filled with spare pianos. With the way he plays those keyboards might as well be considered disposable.
OMG I babysit two kids, one isn't even one years old, the other is three years. I put this channel on for them and the three year old comes running up to me the next day saying, "PIANO!!!! PIANO!!" and the one year old will literally bounce his whole body to the vibe XD
+Matthew Lee so that one year old........ is he okay, bouncing at that speed could be deadly you know.
Casey Cordie he has HDHD or sumthing he is fine. he is a lot older now days
Matthew Lee Ahhhhh, Thats good to know, and besides it was a joke, because anyone could die bouncing in 7/20 time signature.
So its like doing 1 and e a e a e a e a e a e a e a e a e a for a quarter note 7 times.
Casey Cordie e a e a e a e a e a ea ae a ea ae ea a eae. Ae ea ae ae. Ae ea ae eae a. Ae ea a ea a ea. Ae ea ae ea e a eae
Jesus called.
He wants his fingers back.
Matthew Holmes Jesus doesn't need fingers to play the piano >.
i think he stole the Devils fingers :0
Jesus: *watches video*stars at his hands*keeps watching* so that's where my fingers went........DAMN HE PUT THEM TO GOOD USE
Hahaha....
Stares* sorry to be a nazi but that one kinda bothered me for some reason.
The thumbs up at 4:05 tho lmao XD but the music is freaking awesome
I've been listening to this exact music video for over 6 years, and I still come back, and it still amazes me.
I have listened to this twenty times now, and it's still "Bonkers".
Only 20? Beat ya! But yeah, 'bonkers'. I play the EDM remix of this on repeat when on long train journeys...
My piano skills are exactly the same. Then, suddenly, I wake up.....
Antonios Kokiantonis It was a nightmare
Nightmare coz you know you deserve more views and subscribers
Can you imagine making a mistake and having to start all over again . Great job playing truly talented!
Lauren Crofford. I can memorize a piece, but everytime I mess up, I have to start from the beginning. It's awful.
Good job playing the piece.
Plus...WHY ARENT YOU FAMOUS?!
+Miso_Soup!Go because almost all of the famous people aren't talented
Lauch cro I see...what you did there. I agree xD
+Lauch cro LoL... yeah... only some people that are famous for their talents
Because dynamics and articulation , some one buy him a Steinway so he has more room for expression. I'd love to hear him play on an actual piano the keyboard is defiantly restricting him.
he would break the piano lets be real
_The Story of Pachelbel's Nightmare._
0:00 the intro starts, Pachelbel is dreaming about his piece, his piece was that he was proud about.
0:23 he was happy, he thought his dream will be just another night of peace.
0:28 but an entity appeared, a very dark and menacing entity walks to the Pachelbel, without hesitation.
0:35 they looked at eachother with silence.
0:36 and just then, the entity corrupts Pachelbel's masterpiece, Pachelbel was furious, and they fought with vigourous might.
0:49 Pachelbel wants to take his masterpiece back to normal, but the entity grabs his piece, and it was a hard to let go of the entity's grip.
0:57 Pachelbel slowly let go of his piece, because it was hard to take away from it's grasp.
1:02 and the entity sucks out the masterpiece of it's joy, and happiness to a dark, and grim theme.
1:24 Pachelbel tries to stop the entity for corrupting his masterpiece, but it won't budge.
1:30 but slowly Pachelbel gets his masterpiece to change things back.
1:43 the entity tries to take back control over Pachelbel's piece.
2:07 finally Pachelbel got his piece back from the entity's grasp, he was very happy to get his piece retrieved from the entity
2:27 Pachelbel is now relaxed now that he got his piece back.
3:02 but just then...the entity took back control, and once again Pachelbel has to try his best to get it back
3:12 they fought again for the piece as they try their hardest to get their hands on it.
3:39 and just then, Pachelbel punched the entity across their face, and it spuns around while dropping the masterpiece, before passing out.
3:44 Pachelbel grabs it and tries to run away from the entity while it's still down.
4:04 Pachelbel takes a short break for awhile.
4:32 the entity wakes up and slowly approaches Pachelbel.
4:56 the entity grabs the piece again Pachelbel is trying his best not to lose his piece again.
5:18 and the fight is over...or is it?
5:29 *_SIKE!_* it ain't over yet son, the fight still continues, and they settle this once for all...
6:29 and then, the entity pushes Pachelbel away...
6:36 but Pachelbel never gave up...he kept on going, he was determined to get his piece back, once and for all.
6:47 he stands tall, determined and, brave against the entity. and tries his best to get his piece back
7:07 and they fought again for the piece, and Pachelbel gets the upper hand against the entity, and pins it to the ground.
7:35 the entity is stuck against Pachelbel's grasp, and tries to escape it.
7:54 Pachelbel is so proud of what he did, he got his piece back and it felt like he achieved great victory against the entity.
8:22 he cries of tears of joy, and can hear an audience behind him clap at his achievement, cheering with joy.
8:38 wait for it...wait for it...
8:43 and his magnum opus shines within him, the audience is cheering for him, and throwing roses at the composer, and was heartfelt, that he will cherish it within his life.
9:25 he was filled with joy, he felt happy again, and was finally let his magnum opus shine within glory.
9:59 but yet something felt a bit dark...it was the entity's presence that sent chills down his spine.
10:26 he woke up with a cold sweat dropping from his face like a pile of sand.
*THE END.*
Thank you ❤️
You know, I heard this when I was little and I remember that liking it so much that I recorded it using my dad's mp3 just so I could listen to it anywhere again (little me didn't know downloading music off of youtube was a thing). Since then it always held a special place in my heart and I always come back every now and then just to listen to it again (not on the mp3, I've learned since then). Thank you for giving me a small piece of my childhood
Thank you!
Let me tell you, but i rate this infinite out of ten
PianoMasters 113 what an awful rating for such a masterpiece
you are a genius and why it doesn't have milion views?
Dude you are crazy. For real it's insane how much I love listening that. This is like a symphony, it's perfect. Thanks you for playing for us :) Continue like that
I'm just amazed you can play for 10 straight minutes at a such a fast pace without your fingers falling off! You, are an insanely talented person!
This touched my heart more than Pachelbel's Canon did. I cried.... Your music is so good that it gave me tears...
His music gives me tears too....It always tells a story. Simply unbelievably gorgeous!!!!
Goddamit, Musicalbasics, there's nothing "basic" about this!
yes there is, it is something basic that you feel passion for music.
You are simply phenomenal!!!!!!!!! I agree with Jan Viator that you need a grand piano. A grand master needs a grand piano! Thank you for sharing your beautiful and amazing gift with us!!!!
Me at 0:02 - Oh my gosh, I can play this!
Me at 0:23 - never mind
You should perform these pieces, like at symphonies. I would pay money to see you perform in a concert, you honestly, in my opinion the most talented pianist I have every seen or heard.
Absolutely amazing. I used to play the piano but then moved and my parents sold my piano so I have not played for close to 12 years. I miss it, so I live vicariously through other pianists, and you are one of my favorites. :) Please keep posting and playing.
The description is perfect.
Thanks Daniel. Your comments are perfect.
musicalbasics That circle is perfect. Literally.
The piano is shaking in its boots
You have inspired me to play my piano again now, more than 10 years later, after my piano teacher passed away and i stopped playing. Thank you random Asian dude
This sounds like if Doctor Strange was a soap opera, and I loved every second of it ❤️
through sheer determination
I ranked very high nationally when I played flute in junior high, but no amount of determination could get me to your skill level. We all have our own talents, and memorizing music is not one of mine. Neither could I ever get my hands to play music like that even if reading sheet music. Your skill level is astoundingly good (like nothing I've heard elsewhere), and this is absolutely one of my favorite pieces of yours.
@@jennifereverett6298 Ditto!! I listen to this regularly now that I have discovered it - & share it regularly lol. Definitely one of my very favorite Lionel pieces too!! 😊🎉❤❤❤
Luckily,his piano is still alive
I can't imagine what trying to make a song called "musicalbasics nightmare" would be like
anyone want his music in piano tiles 2?
musical tiles, a new awesome game dedicated at musicalbasics. it would be awesome
bargon viktor yah really it would be awesome

It would be so hard, Jesus would rage quit.
WeW WeW me!!
I came back to say again that this truly tells a story. You can picture the heroic plot in your mind as if you are dreaming! WONDERFULL! Really touching!
The story is my favorite part of this piece. Like most Americans I love a good comeback story.
I can listen to this every day for the rest of my life and be in heaven. ❤❤❤
RUclips "Recommended" section is amazing. It sometimes shows jewels like this magnificent composition. I'm so glad to have travelled so far through the Internet and eventually reach its best side!
"Oh, I really want to play piano like him" - Chopin said. Beethoven agreed. Pachelbel didn't say anything, he still looking for his jaw...
I aspire to be as good as you.
I like what he did with the description. Music tends to tell a story, and this description really helped shape that story! In other words, I love it!
Thank you! I had that story in mind while writing this piece - a dark intro, a conflicted middle section and a triumphant end.
Canon in D is my absolute favourite piece of all time. And by god, this man has paid massive tribute and honour to it with his sequel.
Thank you man. That's really meaningful to me. I hope to do more sequels like this soon.
Johann Pachelbel just woke up from his grave.
8:45 that’s the part y’all been waiting 4
I was amazed when I found out you could play this song. Then astounded that you made this song. You sir are a musical genius and you should never EVER stop sharing your gift with the world, for it brings happiness into people that nothing else can.
blending between D minor and D major, a lot of emotions, I love it
THIS IS AN AWESOME PIECE! Also, the description is REMARKABLE!
Yeah
And I thought my arpeggio was good.
Spot on
Thank you! Arpeggios are the best thing since sliced bread.

@@MusicalBasics Yep,But try Tenths,They'll really spice things up for good.

I don't even know how many exams I passed because I was listening to your music while I was studying. Or even just daydreaming. You are awesome and thank you very much for all your masterpieces - this one is by far my favourite!

+Quintin Zamora i know right
It's +100 degrees outside and yet I still get goosebumps watching this
I liked how at one point he looked like he was spamming the keyboard so much till it shook just that he was playing actually playing music. 😂
Sounds like an adventure game
listening to this song for the 10000000000th time and still finding absolutely awesome! i love your songs!
Can we just admire that this was done in a single, ten minute take?
that's playing the piano next level!
I love how its all in your memory and you don't have to look at the the sheet music. I've only leaned one actual piano song called "Its Hard to Say Goodbye" By: Michael Ortega.
Hey look, someone else who also transposed Pachebel's Canon into a minor key! I'm not the only one!
Years ago I thought I was the only one, and then I discovered the internet.

5 years and this is still awesome, good job.
Not even a million views after 4 years? Damn, this goes to show that despite its ability to connect us humans, music can still go crushingly under-appreciated. Get yourself out there, this is quality stuff! 🎵👍
its called Pachelbel's Nightmare because Pachelbel would never be able to play nor write this.

SirTeddy Ill yeah sorry it's just when it comes to piano god damn. I did this before aswell some one commented that other piano played was mediocre I called her a bitch. But I mean this this is something amazing.
Allan Bernal Indeed it is.
It is June 2023 and I just discovered this for the first time. You were brilliant then and you're brilliant today. Stunning incredible jaw-dropping performance. I agree completely with every compliment you got in this thread!!❤❤❤
That awful moment when I like this video, listen to it again until the end, and enjoy it so much that I go to like it, only to find that I already have. You have my deepest admiration.
That poor keyboard...
If I currently can just barely play the black star, how long do you think it would take me to learn this?
2 months or a lot less if you practice intensely every day. But don't over stress yourself trying to play extensively.
