Can you do Story book love by mark knopfler? I would enjoy your rendition.
Why post the music sheet
I came here expecting a song but I got a story instead. I'm not disappointed.
Should be a story writer too.
piece*
@@samuelsong2362 It can be said either way, I guess :/
Yeah I love the story, very well written
Slightly to say that..
The only thing that's more impressive than the fact he can compose this is the fact that he can play this.
absolutely a genius in so many ways
That human hands did this, regardless of amount of tries, will never cease to amaze me
Humans hands are truly a wonder of biological evolution.
The possibilities, precision and strength in it is mindblowing
Remember, he used 1 take .. that's not a human
@@avalon4352 alien
round of applause to all of ya.
I think you mean practice not tries. This isnt some trickshot video
You have done something not many composers can do. You put a story to music without the music itself being the story. It's incredible. I will forever place you with the many rest of the great composers of history.
Uh, you may want to look up program music. It's a thing.
@@VideoMask93 Huh, I've never heard of program music but when I look it up, I was under the impression that all music was program music. But I suppose most classical pieces really were just ballroom dance stuff, with no meaning beyond the sounds.
@@hansomekim1219 To be honest, the term still confuses me on occasion-my personal definition would be that "program music" is any music that, through music (not lyrics), evokes some image. For instance, Iron Maiden songs like The Trooper evoke horse gallops with their galloping basslines. The 1812 overture shows the conflict between France and Russia by contrasting La Marseillaise with Russian sacred and folk songs, culminating in God Save the Tsar during the famous finale.
This is how I rationalize that pop songs are otherwise all program music-if a song is just meant to be listened to for its melody and lyrics in itself, then that doesn't seem programmatic to me. YMMV.
@@VideoMask93 Hey, I don't know if you'll see this comment, but I really appreciate that you brought up program music. Something I have circled around, but never explored directly. Thanks a bunch!

It's a freaking story!
and it made me cry, this could be a published story.
yeah, it could. its pretty great.
I could do that. I'm really good at writing stories.
Yeah I agree i liked it vr much 🙂👌👍♥️♥️♥️
Wow!!! What an Easter egg! Turning captions on,mind blown again!!! 💜

Can you do La Campanella for the next video please?
Oh, also, today is Liszt's birthday!
Oh no! I'm not a fast reader so i was not fully able to follow it but what i was able to follow was super!
This was amazing. Music and language belong together, not necessarily in song either. Good work.
They were awesome! I like it! The captions were the perfect speed for me. It was an great story! It really fit the music! Great playing too!
How's the sheet music for Rebel Without a Cause coming?
I feel like this song should really be called Pachelbel's Journey... Its almost like a Journey through the world of Canon rather than a nightmare.
I believe (could be wrong) it's named Pachelbel's Nightmare in reference to Kepler's Somnium (1634), believed to be one of the earliest science fiction stories. I haven't read Somnium, but I have read Galileo's Dream by Kim Stanley Robinson and there are clear parallels between Pachelbel's and Galileo's respective stories.
For those of you longtime fans of this channel, you'll know this piece has another name: "Pachelbel's Nightmare"
I remember that :) Quite amazed by realizing what the name actually meant!
It's obvious that your skills has upgraded so much, but also the biggest change i think is the piano that doesn't look like it's gonna collapse xd
One of my favorites! Great playing!
lol yeah ive been watchin u since the start, PLS DONT STOP MAKING VIDEOS!
Wow, that was a *while* ago! You’re the OG YT pianist (other than Lisitsa I guess)
The RUclips algorithm does indeed occasionally send one a gem - today it gave us this! We laughed, we cried and we subscribed - you were not lying when you called it "epic!"
"The two spring at each other, arms flailing, claws gleaming. Furious, they start punching each other with the force of two guys who clearly have no training."
lol probably my favorite part of this story
Liked this part, too. Nice comedic touch to the story
ooooooooo
"Now die noob!" Sounds like someone imitating a gamer without playing games
This should have a billion views. Not only is the piano playing amazing but so is the story.
Me listening without caption: This is beautiful, is this an interpretation of life??
Me finally realizing there's caption: Hold up, is this a...fan-fiction?
I just find it really really amazing how a single piece of music can bring someone to tears.
The ability of a good piece of music, combined with a good pianist, will never fail to amaze me.
Simply having a good piece of music is not enough, nor is only having a good pianist good enough.
It needs both.
I seriously did not except myself to sit in front of my iPad and listen to someone play Canon in D for 12 minutes. But every single note here is nothing short of beautiful
☝🏻me too! thank u @musicalbasics! ur story and piece was really good!
"...sometimes the RUclips algorithm can find gems in the most unsuspecting places..."

A story that made me cry to tears of happiness
Shadow: I'm actually a pretty big fan of yours, I like your style better than Bach

Shadow: uhhhhh...... I don't remember... wait, you wrote other pieces?

I know only one other piece. Fuga c major

Me: I'm going to learn the basics of piano

Me: judging by the channel name this should be the perfect channel.
" watches video"
Me: well if these are the basics than I'm never gonna learn.
Check the channel's description. Although I'm sure you already did.
I even bought the sheet music for my sister (pianist) thinking maybe she could tackle it over the coming winter months. She did play the first section but said 'This is concert pianist stuff. Way beyond me'... I suggested 'Maybe play each hand separately to start with?' (I'm no pianist). This piece in indeed truly EPIC... Takes my breath away... And I've listened to it several times now... Good luck with your piano playing!
This is honestly one of the best improvised Canon in D I have ever heard. Not only because there is a story behind it, but also because how you transformed a piece of music that was supposed to calm and peaceful to something out of the era. This improvised version is truly beautiful. Thank you so much for making this version, we all love it.
And you should write out a sheet music of this, and publish it as "Pachelbel's Nightmare".
I am sure lots of people will love it.
I'm pretty sure that this was fully written out and not just improvised :p

But he's using too many arpeggios! /s
Bravo! As a cellist this hits home but I really enjoyed your arrangement and the story telling as well! Fantastic!
Argh, you’re really gonna make me listen to Pavonian’s Pachelbel rant again, aren’t you.
I played the cello for a year and my sister had played it for years so I do get it and I love the cello

NO I AM NOT CRYING!!! It's from not blinking for 12 minutes straight trying to focus on reading and looking at the beauty! AND understanding this deep relationship Johann has with his inner self ... ok... maybe I was teary by the end.

For some 25 years or so, Pachelbel's Canon in D has probably been my most loved and favorite piece of music in any genre, ever! It took me until today, 3 years after you composed this, to find your version. I have to say you did and amazing and fantastic job. I have never heard a remix/alternate version so powerfully done then this one. It took me back to when I would listen to Pachelbel's Canon in D cranked so loud I couldn't hear anything else but that, over and over again. So beautifully and emotionally done. Thank You!

I'm a successful superrealist oil painter, and I've brought a good few people to tears with my work.
But I'll be the first to admit... Music, true music, is thee greatest art form.
Thank God for music, I cannot conceive this sad world without it. ❤
The secret to become immortal in a field of work of innovation and creativity is to be just yourself and delve into the passion and the love of your work. The culmination of your passion, your love towards that work, your hard work and determination will surely produce something that will engrave your name for timeless periods on the golden pages of history.
I love those arpeggios tho.
A prime example of how music, when applied to it's fullest potential, reaches into the depths of the Human spirit and in turn enriches and uplifts it closer to the divine.
His left hand was just being thrown around but in a way that it produced this masterpiece
The moment the cello got brought up I flashed back to my freshman year of college, when I dated a cellist and made the mistake of mentioning the Canon to her.

I've only discovered your channel a few days ago, totally head over heels and I have little interest in hearing other pianists, regardless of how good they may be, I find a deeper connection with your gift, it not only speaks, it deeply sings to my soul.
It really helps to see the visual aid of the upcoming notes, for us noobs at least.
I wasn't expecting anything other than slightly different pachelbel's nightmare but WOW this is good. The story as well 👀👀👀. Really outdone yourself this time!!
I can’t tell who had more genius. The creator of the piano, the original score or the adaptation. Thank you for an early morning delight.
Congratulations! It’s so great to see someone who put their soul in the music. You’re the best example of people like that. I sure that one day more and more people will be interested in your music.
Thank you for goosebumps
This piece has changed me in ways I never knew. From tough times at work I remember that this piece and its feelings were always there for me. From being one of the first ones to come online when the live stream started, I can tell that just watching this piece from when it was released was just yesterday, even though now, it has been over a year. Keep inspiring people with your music, you are awesome!
Im going to tell you honestly you have me crying hard here for a good 5 minutes and the song isnt even done

I'm a bit late to this video, but I love it. I don't know if you'll ever see this but I want you to know that I've been viewing your channel since you posted the AMA on Reddit. Your channel has grown so much and so has your music. You put emotion into every note, turning everything into a story (in this video, literally!) Your style of music speaks to me and I really connect with the specific way that you play. I never learned how to play the piano nicely, since it's not my passion, but I can see myself in your pieces and it really amazes me how you can use simple combinations of notes in order to paint such a nice picture. Thanks for playing.
thanks so much! I've been obsessed with playing piano this way for the past 10+ years. I've always believed that performance should be played with 100% of one's heart and soul, and I'm glad you were able to observe this.
The story is heartwarming and wholesome, yet with a few hints of darkness and lots of humor, and the music fits so well

This song, in many variations, speaks to me and this version is utterly amazing I can’t tell you how many times, in the last 2 years, I have listened to it… great work!
Imagine trying to walk down the aisle to this!
I've played the accordion since I was 6.. went onto most brass instruments in school and then guitar..im musically gifted...but...pianists always made me jealous... their hands are pure magic..I tried to learn piano...it's one instrument that will forever elude me
I love how symbolic this is, the subtitles are amazing and the story fits extremely well with the piece, especially when the tonality changes to major near the ending. So deep and nice.
The story was COMPLETELY *beautiful* it fits well with the music too.... I even cried a bit
This is true art. The story behind this piece really brings the whole thing together. I really can't describe how much I was geeking out at it. The thought of Pachelbel complaining about how he doesn't have notation software and being completely mystified about what a "youtuber" is had me grinning wildly. I also appreciate you giving us a small glimpse into yourself through this story.
I'm glad I found your channel. The youtube algorithm finally did something right.
one of the greatest and most memorable piano videos I’ve watched on youtube
It is 1677 in Vienna.
In a small apartment, Johann Pachelbel sits in front of a wooden desk, finishing the touches to his latest chamber work.
"Hmm... I have no idea what to call this... ahh whatever, Canon it is. Canon in D."
He puts the manuscript into his drawer, satisfied with his work.
Stifling a yawn, he heads to bed and soon falls asleep.
The dream begins.
Canon in D plays in his mindscape, while his vision opens to a grassy clearing in the midst of the forest.
"Wow! So peaceful. Look at these flowers!"
Johann walks amongst the daisies, breathing in the incredible scent.
The clouds become overcast and the sky turns dark.
A small distance away from, a dark presence lurks.
"Who's there?" Johann exclaims.
The shadow emerges. It's a figure, a shade. It's neither a man or a monster.
Abruptly, the shadow launches itself at Pachelbel. Its speed is blindingly fast.
"WHO ARE YOU?" Johann screams as he is tackled to the ground.
The two wrestle for control. The shadow pins Johann down, growling with menace.
"Who... TF... are you" Johann gasps for breath as the shadow chokes the life out of him.
The shadow grins. An evil pair of red eyes form.
"I... come... from... the... future... to... hunt... you... down." The shadow menaces.
Johann is flabbergasted. "Who... what... where... why ME?!"
"You are Johann Pachelbel, yes?"
"Y-yes... how do you know me?"
The shadow smirks. "You have recently finished a piece of ensemble music, yes?"
Pachelbel's eyes widen. "How did you know? 3 violins and a cello, I started it a few weeks ago and now it's done."
"Mm-hmm. Tell me what kind of notes do the violins play?"
"What do you mean? The violins play the melody of course! It's a beautiful harmony, full of inversions and counterp-"
"Whatever!" The shadow rudely interrupts.

I just realized there is a story with this. I am glad I noticed it.
You are very bright and talented, among many other qualities. I like that you included some of your own insecurities, because in doing so you are, building a lighthouse (for lack of better words) for those behind you in their paths, helping encourage and assuring they aren't alone.
I so fully am grateful for you and what you have created and shared with us. Words will never express the joy and range of emotions that I have gotten to experience.
Thank you so much
This was not what I signed up for, expected a Canon, expected a D major key.
I love it.
This is probably the best self-insert fanfic I've read in my entire life. The music fits so well with the story. It conveys every emotion expressed in the story.

It actually changed my mood. I feel great now
Watched the premiere and watching it again.... it has all your fabulous essences and I love the arranged parts of Canon and your own music in between as well as the dramatic parts and the tender parts. This really hit my heart ❤️ Awesome, true genius work 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😊👍🏼
never thought i would cry over something like this
Oh man, this is awesome. Right from the start, the abnormal low tones are like a flashback to a false or corrupted memory of someone once thought to be pure, but traces of their darkness being found that lead up to the tragic state they're in now.
Wow! I love the part of the dream where the shadow pops up and Herr Pachelbel begins channeling Alberto Ginastera hundreds of years before his birth. Very well-done!
ZOMG!! and Yoyo Ma too? Very prophetic!
Lionel, please do a epic version of La Campanella. That (or maybe a mashup of it and some other Liszt piece) would be the most virtuosic and epic piece ever to be created. That would just make my life complete. Please, I beg you, do this for us.

"Just one more arpeggio." Love IT! LOVE YOUR STORIES! You have a gift for storytelling as well as mad skills and a gift for music. Keep up with your playing. Keep following your heart and your dreams. 💜🖤
one of my favorite pieces of all time. I love the moonlight sonata, probably more, but this piece is SO SO SO POWERFUL
I would call this brilliant,, but that would be too big an understatement. Genius doesn't even cover it. It would have been brilliant without the storied caption, but the story accompanying the music puts it on a whole new level. Pachelbel's Canon is easily in my top 5 pieces of classical music, and you have certainly done it justice. And as an added bonus, I learned a bit of musical history as well. I am going to subscribe to your channel and check out some of your other music as well.
BRAVO!
That's the beauty of music, it doesn't require human intervention from his voice sometimes.
i love this song so much i listen to this every day
This is absolutely amazing. You're precision in hitting the scales, repeatedly at that, and your expressiveness into the piece leave me without words. Superb job. 👏👏👏
I cryed to. Very moving and emotional. The best version of pachelbel's Canon I've ever heard. I've always wanted to play the piano especially this song but in its normal fashion this was beyond normal it was absolutely amazing
The epicness is overwhelming. It's simply mindblowing! What a story 😍 music and text.
Really outstanding piece and story. I'm a classically trained violinist and first performed the canon when I was about 10 and pretty quickly got to the point I'd have rather played "Ode to Joy" than that damn canon one more time. In the days of the great composers, musical ability was a really quick road out of poverty and anonymity. Parents sacrificed dearly to get an instrument of some sort into their kids hands as soon as they could hold it, then they found a teacher and prayed. Some incredible genius was born of that era.
Look how music has changed. Sure, it can still lead to fame and fortune, but it's open to anybody with a laptop (so, everybody). Some of these techno and electronica remixes - THOSE are Pachelbel's REAL nightmare. True ability to put fingers to string or keys, to bring flesh and inanimate material together and extract sound that can move the body, mind and soul - that's still a rare gift.
Don't get me wrong - I think the fact that music is more accessible than ever is a great thing. And there are also some gifted computer composers. But to do what this gentleman does....that deserves respect.
I always make up stories to accompany any instrumental song I hear. I can’t help it. So as a connoisseur of mental musical narratives, I can say you’ve done an amazing job. Thank you for sharing it with us.
It sounds like a battle, then you come out of the battle a survivor then when all seems right it creeps back in and you realize your a fool for being so nieve thinking you conquered something that's bigger than life itself. A legit experience you dragged me through.
This was truly amazing, the piece plus the story got me teary eyed.
