I found trying to read The Sillmarillion so hard, the fact you can digest it all and retell it so well is impressive! The artwork is also just fantastic. I am so impressed a group of artists have dedicated their time to this!
hey friends, i did my best on the names dates orders of events exact order but it was a heavy lift. i really hope you enjoy this!! James, your narration really makes these words come alive and your pace is good for storytelling. :)
Really looking forward to all of these! I personally was blown away by some of the details in Nature of Middle Earth. Like the old heresy of some of the Avari for example, believing they were meant to rule Middle Earth, which would in time inspire Feanor. There are so many hidden gems about the awakening of the elves!
Cirdan, being one of the original Elves to first awake, was of course very old. The question is, how old? There are different specifics about how to measure time in Tolkien's Legendarium, but I saw a video from Nerd of the Rings detailing how by one measurement, by the time Cirdan finally left Middle-Earth in the 4th Age, he could have been around 60,000 years old.
What-if video idea for you to do: What if Gandalf never fell at the Bridge of Khazad-dum and continued with the fellowship to Lothlorien and on forward?
The Silmarillion is a lot like the Old Testament (thanks to JRRTs religious influences). You have to read it loosely. There are a lot of names and places that are irrelevant to the larger story but applicable only to their small part, as well as small details that come back up later. By the time you get to the end you have a sense of who/what is important and what isn’t, so when you read it the next time you pick up on those things with a better grip.
While I enjoyed this video, I got lost pretty early on. I do appreciate that this is available for folks that are more educated on the history of elves.
Galadriel is so perfect because she has the Creative Fire and Ambition of the Noldor and the patient zen reflection of the Vanyar. The scenery we get is so beautiful and surreal in the sections of the silmarillion i used for this script "of the coming of the elves
owlves. why do you say a short e sound as an ow sound? do you also say owveryone (everyone), or owlse (else), or owver (ever), etc? not asking in a mean way, just curious
More lore as always. On to your true question: The Sindar. Mostly in similarity to my family name and in the appearance of our folk. We do have quite a number of woodworkers as well.
"But the Quendi shall be the fairest of all earthly creatures, and they shall have and shall conceive and bring forth more beauty than all my children; and they shall have the greater bliss in this world." -- Iluvatar in Quenta Silmarilion, "Of the Beginning of Days"
If I were to belong to a group of elves it would have to be the Noldor because of their rich history and that so many famous elves belong to this group
Amazing Video! i wonder if we're gonna see any of these elves in ROP? i have an interesting theory that the elf we saw fight the Balrog is actually Glorfindel !
That was in the first age at the front steps of Gondolin where he slayed the balrog as the balrog slayed him. Eru Ilúvatar saw his heroic deeds and brought him back. ROP does not have the rights to the silmarillion so they cannot tell that tale and probably make stuff up that never happened. Plus they do not have rights to the first age and anything shown is made up with names from the LOTR appendices.
Yes, I’d love to see a greater history of what the elves did and why vs. how they grouped or split. Indeed, the later is a better way to understand how to determine which group of elves I like best. THANKS!
"And those of the Nandor became famous throughout middle earth for there spicy chicken dishes". Sorry, I'll get my coat, can only do old and/or bad jokes.
He took elves into Ithilien, out of Mirkwood after the War of the Ring, but it is never said if he was a ‘king’ of these or just ruled them in his fathers name! So sadly the answer is, no body knows!
@@TheBrokenSword that is sadly true, I would have loved it if Legolas ss king and gimli as lord of the glittering mines together as leaders made some kind with thier races.
Why do elves have so few children? For a people that have lived for thousands of years, shouldn’t their marriages have produced way more children than we hear about? Do they have a very long or dangerous pregnancy? Or a limited window of peak fertility?
First: the processes (intercourse, pregnancy, and giving birth) were costy, consuming much of the couple's strength (specially that of the women), so they needed time to recover; Second: after sometime, the will and desire to have children ceased, for both mind and body started to be driven by other things
i think one of the big problems with the amazon show is, there is just so much lore and history that the majority except the most hardcore fans dont know. or get confused on. you guys do such amazing work

Not gonna lie it’s complicated. So many groups and reasons they split. May have to watch this 3 or 4 times to fully grasp haha thanks.

Like the Titan Atlas, you hold the world on your our shoulders while spinning magnificent tales, bravo!
the fact you can digest and comprehend it all is impressive
I certify this is the best video on this complex topic...appreciate the repetition
All I am going to say is this is why I love your channel and you have done more justice for the elves than rings of power ever did!
Thank you so much 💚
Nothing beats a fan

Amazing history! JRR Tolkien gave this world such legendary stories and detailed history!
I've been looking forward to a video like this since the HotA days. Great work as always!
💚💚
I agree
Nice work dude thanks
Love you videos! Nice work
A great tale, thank you! 😄
I will watch this later as soon as I get a chance, very ambitious title indeed!
Beautiful work
Thank you!
Agreed
Yes please. Bring on Part II 🙂
Make a video on Luthien! She has such an amazing accomplishment!

Glorfindel approves this. 👍
some info on the Dark Elves would be Good!

Awesome video! Can't wait to see more. I love learning more about this universe. Keep up the great work!
Yes I would very much like a follow up video
Yes im happy too im just now watching
I think I’d want to be part of the Falmari, I love singing and I love the sea! But with a hint of Nolder 😏
The Vanyar, the lightelves.They're perfect.

Dang I never knew the elves had more clans than Space Marines.
More lore as always.
On to your true question: The Sindar. Mostly in similarity to my family name and in the appearance of our folk. We do have quite a number of woodworkers as well.
Lore is awesome
you gorgeous people! this is perfect! now time to make lunch and delve deeper into the lore 😘🤌

The Noldor!
The Vanyar would be my choice. Vanyar elves were pretty chill and loved music and poetry.

Maybe
@@TheBrokenSword Why do ye make these Lore videos?
-I mean, ye care not one bit of it. Ye loath the Tolkien lore, yet make videos about it.
honestly as some one who is new to this i dint not get a wore of what u wore trying to explain
NOLDORIN, DEEP ELVES FOR LIFE!!!!
Can someone tell me where i can go to listen to a audio books of lord of the rings
Audible on Amazon
Genuinely the Andy Serkis reading of it is awesome!
Spotify is an option two
Can you do a vid on the great eagles
There's already one on the channel :D
I also did a video of the eagles on my channel

If it takes super long for eleven to “age”, how long does it take an elf to go from a child to an adult. Is the elves growth the same as man?
The Seafarers, probably because I grew up and live on the coast and love the ocean
I'm really enjoying all these histories of the peoples of Arda. It speaks volumes to the world-building in these stories.
Like the video
👍
"And those of the Nandor became famous throughout middle earth for there spicy chicken dishes".
Sorry, I'll get my coat, can only do old and/or bad jokes.
I'd be team Elrond each time.
Bring it on
Since I’m thirsty for knowledge, the Noldor.
There will be plenty more where this came from 😁
Video 173
Elves are the best!
Sindar
A video titled "everthing you need to know about the elves" that is under 15 minutes long is an oxymoron.
Followed by "Part 1"
@@TheBrokenSword okay, I overlooked that part. thanks
@@RonnieLeeDuck don't worry I didn't notice that either
Deep elves. Aka the falmer 🤣
Is a skyrim joke before I get any hate lol.

Love me some Alves
I have a question did legolas ever become a king before going into the un dieing land?

@@leonardofaber5823 thanks, that’s really informative 😊👍
The best Tolkien channel covered this - The Red Book - a video called Why isn't Middle-earth overpopulated?
I would say that another main reason is that since they can live forever they just don't have interest of making kids
nope, cant keep up. mind blown, empty head.. will have to watch god knows how many times with pen and paper to take notes lol
i think one of the big problems with the amazon show is, there is just so much lore and history that the majority except the most hardcore fans dont know. or get confused on. you guys do such amazing work
Thank you! It can properly confuse the mind!!
Tolkien lore is complicated
I wonder who will screw up the franchise next? Personally I hope that it’s Robert Rodriguez or Quentin Tarantino
Uhh... what?
It's starting to get difficult to listen to a Tolkien lore channel supporting the blatant disregard of the lore to fit the narative.
