I’ve been a fan since ‘76 and I’m
63 and still a fan.
Count me in since 1978, and now Im 65..ssamething I guess:-). The only music I basically listen to these days other then IRON MAIDEN. Well 80-20 in favor of The Irons!
Moon, Peart, McBrain. Enough said
Alex’s compositional genius on full display in this song.
Never judge a RUSH album against another. They are all works of art at different stages of their careers.
That's what makes Rush the undisputed masters of prog!! No two albums are the same!
Well said
Except Presto....that one can stay in a closet. :)
Well albums are one thing, individual songs... like Virtuality 😣🙄😣 that are painful to listen to, are quite another!
Agreed
I don’t think I’ve ever heard a band more “on the same page” than Rush. In such complete and total unity of sound and purpose between the three legendary players. Each song is just beautiful to experience…
just geddy lee doing vocals, bass, keyboard, and amplifier
Amplifier my favorite instrument 🗿
One of their criminally underrated songs
I agree
Nothing they do is underrated. Everything they do is a masterpiece.
Grace Under Pressure is underrated.
My favorite rush song!
It was all over MTV at the time
Most musically talented rock band of all time
Seriously. Every single one of them was just incredibly phenomenal. It's hard to even put into words.
Yes. They were so good.
@@davegto67 Indeed, Yes were so good. :-) I love both bands.
RIP Neil Peart, 1952-2020. There have been many great drummers- and then there was Neil.
Gone too soon. RIP, NEAL PERT.
RIP Professor.
What a tough and talented man he was... A true Canadian!
"Your favorite drummer's favorite drummer"!
My favorite rock drumming is Clive Burr, the first 3 iron maiden albums, hes friggin intense.
My god, Alex's playing and tone gives me chills. His sound on this is the holy grail for me.
U cudnt be more right about that! Epic!
Dude. I love Alex’s playing in the early 80’s. Actually love all his playing but I am a sucker for that early 80’s sound. Andy summers had the same sound in a lot of ways.
He's the best. Have you seen Come on Children (1973)? He's but a young lad in that
@@rbjax2001 '81 was my favorite year of rush. Moving Pictures & Exit Stage Left was a period where Alex began using a little more Fender guitars while getting the best imo sounds out of Gibsons I've ever heard. It was that in between period after the minimalistic guitar/Amp setup and before the synth heavy / polished effects precessors sounds. I liked all three but prefer that goldilocks 1977-81 period.
For me, one of his best albums along with maybe Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures...
RIP Neil. A huge loss to Canada and the world. Exit the Warrior!
Nice! Neil was one of thee very, very best...
Rush performing.... they are missed!!!!
'When I heard that you were gone, I felt a shadow cross my heart.'
Three years ago today…feels as though he’s been gone a lifetime. Rest up, legend. 🙏🏻♥️
RIP To Neil Peart The Greatest Drummer Of All Time In Rock History.
yeah-huge neil fan here-also might include ginger baker and jim fox from the james gang in that class as well-jim is the only one left now at 72 yrs.old
aitech nasus Not the greatest, but definitely in the top 10.
Yes, the greatest of all
I love Neil. He's in my top 5 favorite drummers along with Bill Ward, Cozy Powell, Phil Collins and Bill Bruford.
@@thewal1ofsleep Bill ward??? No, man!
Follow the guitar the whole way thru: dominant, driven, melodic, builds and releases tension, it tells a story. His playing is on a different level than most rock guitarists, he is so underrated.
Lifesons guitar does add unequalled atmospherics.. think red barchetta witch hunt subdivisions.. you are literally in the movie.
I agree. This has Always been one of my Favorite works from Alex. He simply Owns this song...👏👏👏
He might actually be the best guitarist ever and sadly, but definitely, hes the most underrated and underappreciated...
In some instrumental ways hes actually the best electric ever > 3:01
Not under-rated by me!
To all those who say that this Rush video is bad, remember...
"Rush" and "bad" can never be in the same sentence :)
Herald Yoman The album "Presto" proved you wrong.
Pedro Calmon well I suppose the loophole is that Presto is a "bad-ass album."
Herald Yoman And it's the 80's. Videos like this were popular.
+Pedro Calmon Presto was good. I'd say you're on drugs, but even people stoned out of their minds can appreciate Rush in it's entirety.
+Collin Campbell I'd have to disagree with you about the quality of Presto. I think it's easily their second worst album. It held the title until Snakes & Arrows came out. Yechhhhh.
Rush's "Grace Under Pressure" album has aged very gracefully.
“Suddenly, you were gone, from all the lives you left your mark upon.”

I'll miss you my strangest friend. My mentor . . RIP Neil . .
I feel the way you would
@@BollyBibby I have memory and awareness. But I have no shape or form.
I can only possibly fathom the lyrics Neil came up with in his final moments
I do not often watch music videos, but one can feel the energy when Lifeson and Lee turn to each other. Neil Peart gets into it.
What an angel might sing to a mortal -- "The world weighs on my shoulders -- but what am I to do? ...I know it makes no difference to what you're going through, but I see the tip of the iceberg and I worry about you." Keep your eyes to the skies, good people. One of the most dynamic and thought-provoking Rock tunes -- ever.
"The world weighs on my shoulders, but what am I to do?"
RUSH knows. The Muse who inspired 2112, Anthem, Free Will, and Tom Sawyer told them....
Shrug.
@@cedk144 What total bullshit. The ignorance about lyrically thought out music is strong with rand-fanboys
Or a Canadian to an American.
Well stated! This song (along with many of their works and their lyrical messages) really touches my heart..
Yes! Rush, and Neil Peart in particular, aren't recognized enough for their brilliant, meaningful lyrics, where they did deliver anyway. (Not sure if Neil was a contributing lyric writer on this song or not, but know many other's he did) May you be at restful peace forever with your family Mr. Peart!!
One of the most underrated guitarists ever. Boy can play!
Trevin Larkin alexxxx
Definitely underrated. His solos are something to behold
Ed Van Halen agrees as well
To think Alex and Geddy started this in high school....Imo the best 3 piece band in the world
What many fail to realize is as a Rhythm guitarist he is very advanced and never creates anything but exiting ideas and fills in a lot of space . He never needed to have crazy extended soloing to prove he is a master musician but I do wish some solos with that guitar tone in the 80’s were extended a few more bars lol including marathon where he could have really went wild . Alex always will be a hero of mine as Geddy and Neil will
Absolutely RIP Neil!! Been a Rush fan since 87. I'm 54 now and still listen to them!!
This is My Rush Album. First Rush Concert.🤗🤗🤗
Geddy Lee doing Canada proud with a FINE hockey-hair mullet for the ages.
I'm so sad that version of Canada is all but dead...
@@AUniqueHandleName444dead and gone. Thanks to Globalism
How could a three-man band be so AWESOME???
They were all the best of their ability in their musical position. Geddy Lee, Neil Peary and Alex Lifeson.
Primus, The Police, and Rush
@@willbracken2367 motorhead, nirvana, muse...
Easy. You RUSH into it
They’re no Rush, but don’t forget another great three-man Canadian band, Triumph.
RUSH is the perfect example of the type of music we would get so much more of if the music industry weren't such an ungodly disaster.
so true
What a load of crap.
Clinical and sterile and contrived music is terrible, that's why I despise RUSH.
@@alanstrom2221 then why are you here

Look for truth in the lyrics:
An ill wind comes arising
Across the cities of the plain
There’s no swimming in the heavy water -
No singing in the acid rain
Red alert
Red alert
It’s so hard to stay together
Passing through revolving doors
We need someone to talk to
And someone to sweep the floors -
Incomplete

The world weighs on my shoulders
But what am I to do?
You sometimes drive me crazy -
But I worry about you
I know it makes on difference
To what you’re going through
But I see the tip of the iceberg -
And I worry about you…
Cruising under your radar
Watching from satellites
Take a page from the red book -
Keep them in your sights

Black and whites of youth
Who can face the knowledge
That the truth is not the truth?

Rush is one of those unique bands with a unique sound an doesn't appeal to most hard rock/prog rock fans. In the 80's, liking Rush often got you labeled as a nerd or egg head, and back then I couldn't figure out why. Sure, I was isolated a bit for loving Rush, but they gave me a confidence and strength that I never knew I had, because I loved Rush, but couldn't care less about being popular. Once I heard "Subdivisions", as a kid; I was hooked.
When I was 17, I got to see them for the first time at MSG, NYC in 82 during Signals. Before I got there, I had NO clue what songs they did. Then, by the time the concert was over, it was as if I had an epiphany and saw them 7 more times to include R40. RIP Neil, you crafted so many greats with your pals. You'll never be forgotten.
My first Rush album... Fly by Night, I was 15..now I'm 58 and Rush still Rules!!!!!
What a load of crap.
Clinical and sterile and contrived music is terrible, that's why I despise RUSH.
@@alanstrom2221 you live a sad life then! Rush is amazing
@@alanstrom2221 Than why are you here? Dumbask
I am a Canadian and I approve this message.
My Brothers from another Mother ..I'm From America
To understand the literal meaning of the term, 30+ years later, this might help:
"The Distant Early Warning Line, also known as the DEW Line or Early Warning Line, was a system of radar stations in the northern Arctic region of Canada, with additional stations along the north coast and Aleutian Islands of Alaska (see Project Stretchout and Project Bluegrass), in addition to the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Iceland. It was set up to detect incoming bombers of the Soviet Union during the Cold War, and provide early warning of any sea-and-land invasion." (Wikipedia)
I loved this song, it saved me from suicide attempt early. Rest in peace Rutsey, I admire you from the depth of my drummer soul
Rutsey?
LOVE YOU FRIEND. NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!! 🖤💜
Rush is my favourite band of all times. I never get bored of listening to Rush.
Same, and I swear I get something new out of their songs whenever I hear them. THAT, to me, is the measure of great music. Proud to call them Canadian!
Deliriomind
Amen..best band ever.
To think some people would choose lil' (insert stupid title here) over this amazing band.
Mine too they are the best band ever
Seen them 34 times
Great to see Neil in top form, never knew him personally but still miss him.
I am 69 years old, love Rush! Great band! Geddy, little jewish man, you made great music! RIP Neil!
Didn't know that Geddy was Jewish. Thank you for pointing that out. His parents were holocaust survivors, which I also didn't know. Wow. I always did like the ending of this song:
"Absalom
Absalom
Absalom"
Now I have a better idea where that came from.
Thank you Neil. I’ll never forget playing air drums as a 13 year old boy pretending I’m in front of 40,000 fans while listening to “Exit Stage Left”. I’m so heartbroken. I pray you are at peace with your wife & daughter
Saddened to hear of the death of Neil Peart. One of the greatest drummers of all time. RIP Neil.
One of the best lyricists also
The first time I went to Montana I finally realized what they meant about 'big sky'. The first time I heard rush I understood 'big music'. These three gentlemen captured lightning in a bottle. God put them together.
Without a doubt!!
I remember driving towards Montana from Idaho and saying to my wife, "What does big sky even mean? The sky is the same size everywhere. It's visually even bigger when there aren't any mountains blocking it..."
That lasted about 30 minutes of actually being in Montana haha
RIP Neil 😢🥁🕯 This is one of my top 10 favorite rock songs of all time.
Geddy may not be screaming and there may be synth, but this is one of their heaviest rocking songs in my opinion.
It does not get any more 1984 than this. The defining music video.
So '84. I so this those days.
Song's awesome and the video is incredible
I remember when this came out, couldn’t stop listening to this whole album. The best TRIO!!
It does not get any better than this! 3 Of the most incredibly talented musicians ever!
Look at the date it was posted
+McBagey 3spooky5me
LOL
21/12/2012. lol
all of their videos were posted on that day
what so special about that date?
Grace Under Pressure and Power Windows don't get the love they deserve.
your right engi
+Mabase Ironic how another user of tf2 knows of rush's work
+Toasty Engineer well he is the engineer
+Mabase You are so right.Grace Under Pressure introduced me to Rush at the tender age of 18 (I'm 49 now)and Power Windows has my all time fav track on it Marathon.Been to see them twice at the 02 because of those two albums and they were fantastic both times.
+Toasty Engineer I was just thinking that!
Sheldon Cooper would love Rush ❤😂Anyone else agree???
I think he'd love it 😂
Omg yes I agree
Words and meaning rings true today as strongly as when they wrote it. Such great storytellers and prophets alike. RIP Neil.
That period they were somewhere between science fiction&military industrial commentary.
Lifeson's shimmering chords make this song the powerhouse that it is.
The drums in this is what I love!
That bassline though... the 3 wizards at work! Amazing tune
No doubt I agree!
I agree! Alex is a guitar god. . .
Defiantly an Andy summers inspired song
Outstanding, I love RUSH 💯💯💯
Cool suit that Alex is wearing here. He looks great in it!
Alex's guitar work on Grace under Pressure is amazing 👍 This is one of my favorite albums from their "keyboard" Era.
I'm pretty sure this video was shot in the 80s. I don't have any proof, but call it a hunch
LMFAO! Best comment here :)
yeah think? lmao
Was a tolerable album, as you can plainly see, this was the start of their electronic experiment, which went bad, with the release of the Hold Your Fire and pretty much anything up too Test For Echo.
More tolerable than Geddy's screeching pre-1980.
Yes, it was. A video ahead of its time back then.
this guys will never sound OBSOLETE, simply amazing, cannot stop listening
Watching this in 2020. They paranoia, fear, and slightly depressing feeling of this song is extraordinarily relevant right now.
2021 and it is apparent now as very true.
@@quantumbitz3473 Wait and see whether there's an explosive ending to NATO's Operation Sea Breeze 2021 in the Black Sea.
Mr Peart hit those drums full force even when “drum synching” for a video shoot. Look at how he it those fills. Unreal.
One of my favorite Rush videos and songs RIP Neil
Incredible song. It still gives me chills every time
I have too many "favorite"Rush songs so I will list a few of my First favorite...I lived ,I think I'm going bald ,working man ,how can you argue with closer to the heart...cant forget that the oaks can't help their problems, they like they're made.why can't the maples be happy in our shade??(the trees)thank God I saw four shows ...thanx guys for 45-50 years musical perfection at so many different levels...RIP Neil
Still impossible to believe that he is gone.
***R.I.P. "THE PROFESSOR" NEIL ELLWOOD PEART 09/12/1952 - 01/07/2020***
One of my favorite Rush songs . Still sounds good 38 years later .
RIP Neil. Thank you for my childhood/teenage memories. 💔😪
Rush is timeless. In 50 years from now they will be up to the date
True, they are way ahead of their time ❤
The lyrics from Pert, not even mentioning his phenomenal drumming makes Rush an exceptional band.
My favorite Rush album.
1984. What great memories.
Never forget Neil Peart... He is (was) a force of nature... Miss him... 🙏❤🥁🪘
RIP Neil Peart..❤🤘
Love the 80's Rush, with a lot of synths, great guitar solos and amazing drums!
And thunderous Wal Bass attacks!
Next to the late seventies prog period it's probably my favorite era of the band and when I first discovered them.
Never got to see RUSH or Floyd in concert. Damn if those two ever played together, that concert would rock the World! :-) Peace.
I love Rush from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s.
Rush needed to just be themselves. I heard Geddy Lee comment about PR pressure to conform to label pressure and 80's fashions/instruments ... SO glad they ditched it to just be themselves again .... BUT their music did NOT suffer - that is true
I can remember how cool Distant Early Warning was when it debuted on MTV We all cut our hair short on top with a tail that summer to look like Neil Peart.
RIP Neil thank you for the music
"you sometimes drive me crazy, but i worry about you" 🎶
1984 was a really good year for music.
I remember this time when the music scene was pushing a new wave sound and Rush put this record out and blew away the new wave acts clean out of the water. Rush, kicking ass and taking names!\m/
Make my day, punks. Rush was the bomb.
There is no comparison or equal. Neil Peart never had any real peers or equal as a drummer. He was lightyears ahead of everyone including John Bonham, who couldn't carry Neil's jockstrap.
Lost my grandmother and Neil on the same day. It was tough but they both meant so much to me in their own ways
I absolutely ADORE Rush and their tendencies to touch the very nerves with their music, but in a good way!
RUSH is another nameof "perfection"
The first RUSH-Song I ever knew. It changed my life :-)
My son has a heart of gold but has had his share of troubles. This song, along with Lock and Key, remind me of him greatly. Thank you, Neil Peart, for giving me insight into my son 15 years before he was born. I only wish I had recognized it as such at that time.
"Red Alert" - "Red Alert" ... and it's printed in green !!
You are so right> I did not pay attention until you said something.
That was supposed to be a period. OOPS!
+Johnnysynth They're just trying to screw with colourblind people.
Johnnysynth probably lifeson's idea.
Maybe it's because they used a green monochrome monitor at that time, I guess ;)
so MTV and so 80s! gotta love it! RUSH forever!
nowadays MTV SUCKS! With shows like "pregnant at 16" it just went completely out of order.
Hey buddy, haha, nice picture.
I remember trying to make a 📼 recording of all the Rush videos on MTV, I had sit around and wait for a video so I could record it..... that's when MTV played nothing but music videos. Now all I have to do is pull them up on RUclips to get my Rush fix.
If only neil couldve written something about todays situation, definitely wouldve been the greatest song of our generation.
This has one of the best keyboard riffs ever.
R.I.P Mr.Peart...a legend 😔🥁🍻💔
This was actually a very successful album. Reached 10th on the US charts and 5th in the UK and 4th in Canada.
My favorite Rush song. Broad in scope but narrow in focus. My dad was USAF, and spent the last years of his career in SAC in the '80s. The lyrics make me imagine a nuclear bomber pilot on a doomsday mission thinking about a loved one back home as the plane nears the target.
And one would hope a thought would cross their mind about the people making breakfast there were streaking towards. But I suppose that would be a tough burden...
I loved that they incorporated the music videos for this song and Subdivisions for the R40 Tour, that was one of the best shows I've ever been to
Great song from a truly great album. The crescendo from 3:20 to the 3:55 highlights Geddy’s excellent vocals, Neil’s bracing lyrics and the tightness of this trio’s unmatched musical synchrony.
The Master Neil, Alex and Giddie always pushed envelopes on so many planes, that is why Rush is Rush
Rest easy Neil
R.I.P. Neil.
This is how I will always remember Neil. Young and vibrant and behind his (this) bright red drum set.
I see your point. But - to me - it'll be the longer hair, the moustache, the kimono on stage and a drum fill that covered a 270-degree arc from left to right. R.I.P. Professor.
Rush's videos are as horrendous as their songs are masterful.
Right
King of Rock music
RIP neil peart. Thanks for everything!
First song I ever heard them sing, seriously I thought there was more band members. They work real good together. Love them
Rush's best song melodically.
RIP Neil!
sooo many amazing songs.. this may be one of the hidden gems.. love this album
Months after my first comments on this band I am still astounded how much I I missed
R.I.P. Neil. 😥
It still sounds fresh today ❤😊
Rush gets never old. 40 Years old this song, unbelievable ❤
It does
