I knew I was right to do all my laundry on the same day! I knew it was right to pay all my bills on pay day. I also found it was easier to clean all the floors at once; that way you're vacuuming or mopping and using those tools once.
When I saw you setting up your camera for filming videos I realized why you wanted to batch them -- it would be so time-consuming otherwise.
I didn't batch my ironing in college though. I picked out my clothes and plugged in the iron, then did my hair and by then the iron was hot. This was due to a small crowded closet.
Thanks for making me realize I was right on so many tasks.

Thanks for the helpful videos! I've been meal planning since last July...what a difference it has made in my life! While it takes a bit of time to plan the meals, the stress reduction all week is worth it! I also try to "batch" ingredients when planning...for instance I buy a bulk pack of ground beef to make a few meals like burgers, veggie beef soup, tacos, etc. I also try to batch clean bathrooms...not my favorite task, but I can get them both done in one fell swoop!

Your decluttering systems!! ❤ Ruthlessly decluttered my bathroom vanity drawers today. I actually FELT sexier doing my nighttime skin care routine when I could look down into my open drawer and see just a few things instead of a ton of surplus. Thank you for the fantastic encouragement!

Thanks for this video. I have always loved batching when I worked. Everything goes so much faster this way. I still love to batch when I do my tasks at home except for the creative things (art) that I do. I feel that it becomes more of a job than something I really like to do when I batch that, but ofcourse your RUclips videos are also your work. Nowadays I have to do things a bit different because of my energy levels. So I do start f.e. in the kitchen, but when my energy is gone I continue doing a job in the livingroom like doing my administration because that is a job I can do sitting down.

I guess I didn’t realize I batched until I saw your video here. I definitely batch my food shopping/errands. I don’t want to go to town every day. I also batch my doctors appointments when I can.

I want to thank you for all your videos. I just started getting into minimalism. I have been watching a lot of your older videos. You have already helped me with so many things and understand that I don't have to get rid of everything I own. My problem right now is that I lost my mom and dad 3 months apart and just recently lost my sister 3 weeks ago. I'm having a hard time letting some of their stuff go. Any advice would be appreciated

Tonya, the best advice I can give is to give yourself a ton of time and Grace. I'm so sorry you're having to go through all of this. I do have a blog post that you might find helpful on decluttering after a death: miadanielle.com/decluttering-after-a-death

I would take it easy and only let go with things I have to, like a big sofa that you can’t fit. My mother died at age 57 and I held on to her wedding dress an lots of things in several boxes in the addic. In the beginning I took down one of the boxes quite often and sometimes I realized that; one of the things I held in my hand would fit perfectly in a place in my house, I could give away some of her cloths that didn’t fit me to my sisten in law that loved them or just that I could throw away something that didn’t mean so much as other stuff did/do. Slowly over many years somehow the boxes got fewer as well as my tears and today the remaining things I have are used by me and my family. Nothing in the addic! On my daughter’s birthday this year I will give her one of my mother’s necklacese that I have used a lot but feel like it is her time to enjoy. So be kind to yourself and you will feel when you can let go of things and what. If you try to do everything at once it will be overwhelming.
Kindley from Sweden & someone who has been a minimalist at heart for many, many years. (and bad at spelling, sorry)

I am not a huge fan of shopping either! Don’t like malls so I do just like you. I also try to batch shopping into other errends. I bike from home through our small medival town to the station to go and babysit my grandchild a short trainride away. So maybe I stop in stores on the way to the station, maybe I will lunch with my other daughter in law before taking the train or maybe I will pop in to see my daughter after the trainride but before getting to my sons house for babysitting.
I recently realized I am an introvert (at 62 😂) It takes me so much energy to be around people that I need lots of time to recover after. But seeing this I also realized why I batch all of this together. My husband often says that I should spread it out, then I would’t be so tired but I just deep inside always knew I would… Thank You Mia for always giving me such a lovely time looking & listening to you and your wistom ❤️

This was a really helpful discussion on batching! You mentioned that you feel stressed and like playing “catch up” if you ever fall behind on your batching. Do you have any tips for getting back on track when this happens?

    • @MiaDanielle
      @MiaDanielle  Год назад +3

Glad it was helpful! When I get behind on batching it's really all about planning. So, for the videos I HAVE to have a full outline of at least 3 videos in order to make recording super-easy so that I can batch up. Otherwise, each video will drag out and suck up all of my time. The same is true for any other type of task you might want to batch- planning is key.

Ha ha. Encouraging. I guess I’m doing alright. Yesterday I was a little tired and was like ugh ok. I’ll do two errands. I think I went to 5 places and got all that crap done in just a few hours. 😅😅
One recent great example from my life was a little accounting job I do every year. Well they got a new XL computer screen where you can open multiple windows all at once. I’m like ok great. I’ll try it. It was a nightmare tho. Talk about back and forth every 30 seconds. I was wiped out in 10 minutes and quickly went back to my old “batch” way of doing it. Before I knew it, I was done with the task and wasn’t tired or stressed or having a stressed out headache. Ot was a thing like you have basically 2 categories. So it was just way better to do X group all at once. And then go back and do Y category. Way way better Imo. It was funny how much more I noticed this after all this minimalist learning. 😅😅 I was even telling the person I worked with...see...can you see the huge diff here? Lol. “Back and forth” really drives someone like me nearly insane. Lol.
Or like a week or so ago, I was only able to do a couple of things over maybe 4 days (going out) and I hated it and it exhausted me. Esp thinking about how many times you have to primp or change clothes etc when you could’ve skipped most of that 3 days out of 4. And you never get that time back either. Lol.

    • @MiaDanielle

Totally! There is different energy for different situations. So stringing them out so you think you're giving yourself space, can actually deplete that energy even further. Flowing with your energy is so important in getting things done.
