    For the first time in my life I've created the opportunity to really experience the truth that a clean space is easier to maintain. I'd been told that, and understood it on an abstract academic level, but over-cluttered space meant that I never experienced it. I have so much more time now to do things like reading books I enjoy, knitting, weaving, and photography. And I'm cooking meals again since my kitchen is always clean! No more having to clean before I can cook, sapping all of my energy, and killing my motivation.
    I always felt like I was just bad at keeping things clean, but now I know I was making things so much harder than they needed to be by having too much stuff, procrastinating cleaning because of the anxiety related to having too much stuff, and putting obstacles in my own way.

    I love this video! All aside from worrying. I don’t do this nearly as much these days, but I remember a time when it was so consistent. It does waste time. But I think it would be important to note mental health on that point and getting help if it’s obsessive instead of judgement. Judgment helps no one and is a waste of time. Compassion and understanding goes a lot further. But really great points! You’re so well spoken! ❤️❤️❤️

    You are very insightful. There is so much more to it than just the stuff. Fear of being wasteful and fear of needing it later are big issues for me. Growing up, we highly valued being frugal. It's difficult to let go.

    I have a two of my friends living so far away that it is hard to find time to meet irl. What we do is decide an evening to talk on the phone instead. We each get a cup of tea and then we have our ”fika” on the phone chatting about this and that just like if we were having a face to face tea. Here in Sweden we say fika and that is a way to sit down and talk and connect. I value my fika times highly and they give me so much pleasure, but in general even though I am another generation I belive phones today beeing a really bad habit, talking on them, scrolling, watching or whatever you do taking up way to much valuable time… This is such a good subject! I think most people don’t sit down and prioritize what is valuable and what you need to do less to enjoy your life more! As usual love your channel and what you do!! 💕

    I actually tested as better able to focus when multitasking than concentrating on one task. So yeah, not everyone is unable to multitask, some people actually need to to be their best.

    • @bubblebuffy

      This is very interesting! Does it depend on what you’re doing?

    • @freefoodchef7939
      @freefoodchef7939 Год назад

      I can understand that and suspect that I might test the same way. I don't know if this is the case for you, but my mind jumps around constantly, so multitasking provides a relief from my inability to sustain focus on just one task and allows me to get more done in the long run. Something else that helps is multitasking related projects, for example working on various sorting, downsizing and trash collecting projects in my home at the same time. I can move between them as my focus wanes and still get them all done in about the same time as if I did them individually.

    A few of these I absolutely do! Something I just started and it is helping is when I plan my To Do list I have certain times in the day that I need to start things. So it's structured but open as well. I also end my list at 7:30 at night so all work must be done at this time otherwise I was working up until bedtime.

    Some things you've listed I do need to work on but some I am getting a handle on. For example, I unsubscribed from all subscription emails and now I get less than ten emails per day and several of those are spam. I also DVR exactly what I want to watch so that I don't watch more than I intend to and I fast forward through the commercials. When it comes to things that I really don't feel like doing I try to trick myself by saying I get to instead of I have to. This mindset really does make a difference.

    My sister is a toxic person. We live 1300 miles from each other, thank goodness! But she calls me and texts me at least 6 to 8 times a day.. She drains me of all me energy and leaves me feeling sorry for her. she wasn't that nice to me while we were growing up. (She's 4 years older than me), Now she expects me to be her best friend. I can't do it!

    • @kateweatherwax6484
      @kateweatherwax6484 Год назад

      Tell her she needs to be less clingy because it's exhausting. Tell her if she cares she will respect your boundaries. And that you need her to text you less - eg one day on, one day off. If she doesn't respect that, change your number and give her an email address that she can reach you on, but don't give her your new number.

      I've found 2 options helpful for getting rid of needy, toxic people, even when they are relatives. 1) Stop answering the phone when you see it's them calling or texting, and don't respond to their phone, text or email messages unless there's a legitimate crisis going on. This might require some self-discipline, but after a while, this normally will result in them finding someone else to use and to bombard with their emotional vomit. 2) Block their phone number and email address. Extra Credit Option) Don't let anyone try to guilt you over having healthy boundaries and for enforcing them, like telling you, "But she's your sister." It's been my experience that most families are under the impression that they can treat each other any way they want to and that it should be allowed and accepted. This is absolutely false, and is one of the main reasons people develop significant mental illnesses -- from this combination of ongoing abuse, helplessness and guilt for trying to protect themselves. I only started being able to do this in my early 40s, but it took quite awhile to perfect it because I had been taught in my family that I had no rights and that if I was bothered by something going on it was my own fault. I don't take crap off anybody anymore, I don't care who they are, and I have no trouble telling them why I've had to put up boundaries. If I care about letting them back in my life at some point, I tell them what I need from them in order to do so. Of course, these sorts of people usually get pissed off about it and are unwilling to change any of their behavior because they are completely self-serving, but if they can't treat me with respect, they don't get to be in my life. I can't tell you how peaceful my life is now. I wish you strength going forward.

    Hi Mia, there are many things to work on for me. I´m upset, cause i realized (very good!), there are many "things" I waste my time on (not good!), (I´m writing a paper and have to be more productive). In this case some solutions for (procrastination etc. ) were helpful to not let people alone with these feelings... maybe as a little hint for further videos.
    What I love are the topics you also mention: minimalism, routines.. thats so yours, so authentic! You give a really good advice how to gentle improve ones conditions to ones best!
    Keep going ;)

    I love your videos and your soothing voice! Still (and, please, don't be offended) I have to say this video is a little time wasting just because most of the things are the same, so maybe instead of a list of 40 things you could have a list of 15 or something like that and have a much more condensed and interesting video. 🙂

    Let's start with the sleeping . . . I have suffered from insomnia starting in my late teens and now I am in my 60's. So decades of minimal sleep that isn't restful. My circadian body clock is completely different than what is considered "normal." Unless someone has had to deal with this, one doesn't really understand how debilitating it can be. And how many days I spent trying to get some decent sleep. I go into REM sleep between 4 and 5 am and if left to my own devices and let my body do it's thing and actually get sleep - I won't wake up till 9 or 10. And that doesn't work when a job requires certain hours. Menopause made it exponentially worse. Now? Sleeping pills and a pain pill work on the days that I don't have to be somewhere by 7 am. Which is really rare.

    Makes a lot of sense. Was cracking up about nosiness. That’s a thing I can’t hardly stand lol. (Thinking of this lady in the hood over here who loves to keep everyone “informed” about everyone else’s business. 🙄😂 Most def if I have to interact with her I feel like its a waste of my time).
    Although I DO like occasionally but very intentionally getting lost in tv land as a form of dropping all my cares and chores and brain busting for awhile to just relax. I usually save what I call “non educational” programs for evening tho unless I’m taking a day “off” quite on purpose.

    Hi Mia, I only just discovered your chanel. I wonder if you have any thoughts about minimalism and a world in crisis/unrest? I live in Europe, and we have since Russia invaded Ukrain been very worried and crisis-oriented in regards to stuff. We have purchased solar chargers for our devices, stocked up on food staples in case the situation escalates and affect availability of foods in our country (we are far from Ukrain but not very far from Russia...) and so on. That coupled with the following energy crisis here, with higher prices on everything has put most of us in a packrat mentality. All minimalist thoughts and ambitions are gone. I don't really like it... But then, there is an actual risk now of future scarcity. How can one handle that, in a balanced way that doesnt get out of control yet in keeping ones family safe? I guess your not as affected by any of it, but US has a lot of natural disasters, so perhaps this might be a topic you consider? Would love your thoughts on this topic ❤️

      Sometimes little bits of context are important, and tone isn't always clear in writing, so the extra discussion provided can most definitely be worth the time to some.
      You can always change your playback speed! Click on the gear in the lower right corner of the video to access the settings menu and adjust the speed to your preference. I watch many RUclips videos or podcasts sped up a bit to save on time while I'm doing household tasks. Sometimes I listen at 1.25x, and sometimes I listen at 1.75x - it all depends on the video and the topic.
