    Furniture is a huge one for me. My husband had been shopping for a replacement coffee table as our current one was 20 years old and interestingly enough, when we just removed the coffee table and rearranged the couches it felt so open and less claustrophobic. Just because we think we need to have a coffee table doesn't mean it's the right use of the space. We have since removed other pieces of furniture in the home to use our spaces better and it just feels so much lighter having open spaces. The dog can play, we can use the floors for yoga and stretching and we didn't have to spend a dime.

      Oh that sounds so nice! I also don't have a coffee table. This is the first home I've lived in without one but it's been 3 years now and I, too, love the space!

      When my mom moved in, I had to move my coffee table because she uses a walker. So I shoved the coffee table against a wall. I recently got rid of it all together. We've lived fine for 5 years now without using that coffee table, so why keep it?

      It takes some planning and thinking outside the 'usual' box in order to find the right balance of furniture for individual home organizing situations. I have an old cedar chest that I use as a coffee table. I keep blankets in it for the couch. I had end tables but got rid of them because they just don't fit with the layout of the living room. Much of the furniture that is for sale, isn't actually very practical. I am looking at other pieces of furniture that I can do without to open up the space.

    hi Mia, I happen to be the first viewer for todays video. Commenting as I am watching. :) I am in the process of renovating my whole house, and I am practicing emotional detachment from different things such as pieces of old furniture, cloths, excess supplies.. just anything that doesn't give a happy vibe anymore. It feels so light :) Just wanted to share the joy of creating a home that breaths well, full of natural light, soothing colors, and the stuff that matters.. Keep good stuff coming!

    I live with someone who hoarder a lot. My trick is to start with simple things. Pen that no longer work, battries that are dead. I then bring them to a staples (they have recycling) that makes me feel great. It will take a lot of time but baby steps. I clean my things and reorganize theirs.

    Fresh air, an essential oil diffuser or good quality candle with some good music are the first steps to detoxing my space. There’s something gratifying about vacuuming and sweeping as well that sets a fresh palette. I love all the ideas in your video and will be adding several this week!

It’s now cleaned and empty on top of there. :) and did two Amazon returns on things I ordered thinking I didn’t but turns out I really didn’t and good thing I still had them packaged and returnable. Thank you.

    Great video Mia, thanks for sharing - I have been on a decluttering and minimalism journey for over 4 years now and have started to try and work on reducing chemicals and any toiletries/cleaning supplies that are I plastic packaging, toxic and not ethical as much as possible. Some may think my home is sparten, but it's so much lighter, more spacious, organised and a lot easier to clean 😊

    Especially when it is freezing cold you should air your space as the exchange of air is really quick and the dry cold air is beneficial for the house (eliminating humidity)

    • @MiaDanielle
      @MiaDanielle  2 года назад

      I have some essential oils that I use because I have them and want to finish them up but I know there are better ones out there. The best candles I’ve ever used were Voluspa but they’re so pricey that I haven’t bought them in years! My go to scents are lavender and lemon grass for essential oils and I do use dragons blood incense when I really want to wipe the place clean of scents (not too often because the smoke can be irritating)

    I thought I’d make a one word list for myself. Lol.
    Light
    Air
    Trash
    Wipe
    Excess
    Lack
    Gifts
    Food
    Fabrics
    Decor
    Discomfort
    Furniture
    Energy
    (Add ons/changes)
    Scents
    Cleaners
    Hah tho. Discomfort. I already had my diatribe on that (the house itself), but recently I was wearing this one uncomfy shirt and after so long of tolerating it, I finally changed out of it and put on a diff shirt and then noticed a lot how much better the other shirt felt. Gonna wash it and give that one away obviously. Lol. (Just ugh. Like these thick sleeve bottoms Bcuz if you need to slide on a coat, it’s this big annoying ordeal lol). The best thing about it tho to me is how I’m even noticing my own discomfort. My whole life has been a lot like “get by” or “make do” or “I just have put up with this” and so I’m loving how I can now just be like Nope. I don’t need to have these kind of annoyances in my life anymore. It’s kind of like learning assertiveness using your own stuff as a lesson. 😬 I even asked to change one of my dentist appointments to afternoon Bcuz I don’t like to do morning appointments. 😅😅 Being more vocal about what I want (or don’t want) used to feel “selfish” to me but now I’m good with it. (Not always in some kind of demanding, put out way, but I fig it don’t hurt to ask nicely when you don’t HAVE to be “mean” lol). It’s nice Bcuz now I don’t have dread (rushing and stress over maybe being late etc) and I won’t have to be grumbly about that either. Awesome! Lol. It’s also helping with faith and expectations too. Why yes, maybe I CAN have this or that or do or get this my way and not just have to settle for whatever might come down the pike. And maybe it’s a good thing and not a bad (selfish) thing either. Lol.
    Removing trash is about the easiest way for me to instantly feel better.

    • @MiaDanielle
      @MiaDanielle  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for sharing the list! I think you're on the right path and it's definitely NOT selfish :)

    Hi, I use vinegar and water to clean mirrors and windows. It works and as a migraine sufferer, I can't use other chemicals. Do you have any good recommendations for safe, non perfume home cleaners?

    • @MiaDanielle
      @MiaDanielle  2 года назад +1

      I think you're on the right track there. I used to have a bottle of vinegar, lemon, and water and then a bottle of Pinesol and water (for COVID precautions). I like the smell but definitely not for those who need unscented.

      If you have a shampoo you enjoy using, try using diluted shampoo! I don't have any recommendations or ratios, you just need to experiment. Dab some on a clean towel (or spray?), and wipe. Then go over again with a dry towel.
      When I worked at my last job (dog grooming shop) our boss wouldn't let us use anything but diluted [in this case dog] shampoo. 😂

    Hi Mia what about the "rule" 2 is 1, 1 is none. I have 2 of some things what If I cant get another one and thy both work? For instance I have 2 instant pots. What if inflation happened? The what ifs can get really endlessssssss what a trap! Thanks for the video its great!!!!

    • @MiaDanielle
      @MiaDanielle  2 года назад

      I've never heard of that rule but it does sound like a trap! Glad you enjoyed the video :)

    • @ciannacoleman5125
      @ciannacoleman5125 2 года назад +1

      I would ask if you use both. We have an insta pot and a slow cooker. I know that the former can technically do slow cooking but both tools get used at different times and sometimes we use them at the same time, so while some might get rid of one that doesn't make sense for us.
      On the other hand we have both a juicer and a Vitamix. The vitamix gets used all the time but the juicer only gets pulled out maybe once a year, if it was up to me I would find a new home for the juicer.
      Not an exact comparison but hope it helps.

    • @inspiredby624
      @inspiredby624 2 года назад

      That rule does indeed sound like a trap. You'd have to have duplicates of every single item if you really followed it and no one has space to store all of that. IMO the best idea would be to sell the second instant pot. You can save the money to be able to replace whatever object actually breaks down first and if your instant pot does break at some point in the future you can get a newer model with more advanced technology (e.g. more energy efficient).
