    I keep a group of these with some red swordtails, gambusia punctata and assorted vatiatus and they have had quite a few babies, all the livebearers have done well together. A thick mat of hornwort at the top works well to keep the fry safe.

    Wow. Love these. I’m a sucker for livebearers. Unfortunately, my biggest tanks are only 20 gallons cause I’m in an apartment. Have to wait til I get a house. Lol

      Yes I would have to agree Renee. I don’t think you would enjoy them in a twenty, may find them to aggressive.

    I picked up 6 Polka-dot splitfins last year and with some luck will be gifted 4 redtail splitfins.
    Looking forward to letting them do their thing and get a nice colony going..

    Honestly this species is the first fish I passionately kept upon learning their status in the wild and importance in the hobby. Just to share I maintain a colony of this species I was fortunate to have raised from a pair Rusty Wessel brought to a dfo event at his last visit. I was just starting out in the hobby then and this is a very special species.

    Love split fins, the only species available down here is X eiseni. Unfortunately I recently lost my entire colony with all the drama during moving properties. Much love Brother.

      @@themadaquarist You mean the NEW NORMAL? The one the Max Headrooms on the idiot box keep talking about? lol. I'm busy trying to set up a small gallery to try and keep the channel up with new content. Pulling my hair out trying to get quality brood stock. Have only 2 months left on this new lease and too scared to commit to any projects, might be back to square one again real soon.

    My number one fish species is central and south American cichlids but in 2nd has to to be livebearers theyre just so interesting to watch and it was probably 8 years that i learned that there is much more than just guppys, platys, molly, and swordtails and was lucky enough to get a few off of ebay then had to sell all my tanks and prized fish and move home took a 8 year hiatus from the hobby but now im back and i remembered these guys but its hard to find any here in WA state im going to have to look harder i guess cuz these guys are soo cool.

      In the US you also have Aquabid where I know several well known breeders sell their fish/offspring etc...
      Definitely worth making space in our aquariums for!

    Interesting fish sir,believe it or not they sometimes show up in my local aquarium store's here in Adelaide South Oz,not sure what species, just called orange tailed goodeids and also orange tailed goodies 😊👍👊👏🇦🇺

    • @themadaquarist
      @themadaquarist  4 года назад +1

      Very cool, the one you would most likely see would be Xenotoca eiseni far more common and widespread, gets a bit bigger and can be a tad aggression to tank mates so choose wisely. But if setup correctly with suitable plants and tank mates they can flourish.
      Thanks for watching my friend
