Maybe just fans know what they want, and this wasn’t it.
"We're trying to do away with one liners in this new reboot" First kill and the kick off to the title card is a one liner. Being fair to the film it seemed to be pretty much exactly the sort of style that Mauler and Rags said you could pull off in a serious horror film.
the nightmare on elm street films firmly reinforce the lesson taught to me in screenwriting class: avoid dreams and flashback sequences at all costs. the only movie i can think of that did a dream sequence properly is probably jacob's ladder, imho. otherwise, dreams and the like are generally a terrible place to start from with a script.
i had the same idea as rags, except i think all the music in the awake world should also be diagetic. like a stereo, or s tv, or even the band class down the hall. that way the transition to the dream world with zero backround music is very subtle
Proposal for Mauler and crew.... watch the Universal Monster movies one year (Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman, Phantom of the Opera, Bride of Frankenstein, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and so many more). Follow it up the next year with the Hammer Horror films.
Those movies might not be that great for this format tbh. If they cover those would be a better fit if they did any of them like how they did Jurassic park or The Thing recently.
I really hate how there are genuinely a few good ideas in this film. Like the "micro sleep" term is a pretty dumb way to describe how exhausted people get when they get no sleep, but that one scene in the store where Nancy shifts between the real and dream worlds is like the best showcase of this concept. Would have enjoyed the remake if it actually took the idea of trying to escape a dream killer to it's most realistic, terrifying conclusion instead of constantly trying to recreate scenes from the original with effects that look significantly worse than the ones that came out almost 30 years prior and 200% more jumpscares.
Yeah, they could have totally expanded this idea into being more of a psychological thriller/horror film rather than a standard slasher. The idea is also twice as clever when when you realize what was Wes craven’s original idea/concept for the film, a group of people trying desperately to stay awake at all costs, before it & the series divulged into a more typical slasher series
@@kingbash6466 just realized something, if they were gonna do the micro sleep concept then why the hell did they do the whole “ oh no I blinked for half a second so I instantly fell asleep” bs. Like seriously that was/is one of the dumbest explanations for how someone enters the dream realm, it’s fine if it’s a boring class or something but when they do it at every turn despite them being perfectly well rested. The micro sleep idea was a much better way of presenting this, like the brain straight shuts down/forces them into sleep or do a more extreme version of the isle scene where they get stuck in and out of the dream realm without either side control
"Why didn't they do more with that [premise]?" You mean like they did in the movies after 3? They didn't abandon Lucid Dreaming or fighting back in your dreams they just didn't do as well as in 3.
You can still do more with something you've already done. Doing more means doing MORE, what you have done and then some. They never claimed later movies just didn't do those concepts.
Aye up lads! I've done a bit of research and here's some things what I found interesting: • Jackie Earle Haley was contracted for 3 movies. The other 2 never happened. He also called the original "the worst movie he has ever seen" • The CGI on Freddy's face were done by the same team what did The Dark Knight • Jackie Earle Haley might have auditioned for the role of Freddy in the original film but I couldn't find a reliable source on this • The movie was supposed to be good, but was a disappointment
To be fair to the writers, how could they have known that a creepy, child-molester version of Freddy who speaks in innuendos wouldn’t resonate with audiences?
freddy looks like a fallout 4 reject ghoul amd the plot is even more boring than the last remake. i cant believe that freddy vs jason was a real movie with a plot and good pacing. How!!!
freddy was never scary, he was always a massive goof, especially when he tried to be scary. the entertainment factor was watching englund have fun. they tried to make a dark serious movie about a serial killer who joked about and had silly inventive kills.
I don't think that this one stands a fighting chance against Freddy vs. Jason or any other Nightmare on Elm Street for that matter. I'd say that it doesn't even have legs to stand on, not even one.
Dreamscape (1984) handled the concept better than almost all of the Elm Street movies with the possible exception of 3. Not sure if it holds up but I remember really liking it when I first saw it.
Before immediately back tracking and being like "He was a horrible PDF all along" which makes me wonder why they even bothered they should have committed to Freddy being innocent or left it out entirely instead of whatever the hell it was that they did.

As someone who has done a LOT of speed, im talking herculean amounts, let me educate you all a little bit. They got the "microdreaming" thing surprisingly right, it does get like that the longer you stay awake. My record for staying awake with NO SLEEP was around 8, 8 1/2 days straight. After around day 5, the microdreaming stops, even the auditory hallucinations go away. When I finally DID go to sleep, I slept for about 3 days, and when I woke up, I felt better than I ever have in my entire life. And I know, im going to get the people that claim youll die after 4 or 5 days no sleep, well, that didnt happen to me. I had other times where I stayed up 5, 6 days straight too, MANY times in fact. Maybe im built different than other people, but I just know it didnt feel like I was dying or anything, and my wife is my living witness to doing these things.
I had a bad case of COVID this year that kept me from sleeping for over 3 days because I couldn’t swallow without pain, and had constant drainage. I had to enter a meditative state that was like dreaming just to cope.
This Freddy is literally just Rorshach. It is impossible not to just hear it as such and it ruins it for me, the original Freddy was such a goober and this guy is a try-hard (no offense to the actor, I really enjoyed him in the original Watchmen movie).
Yeah, I could see JEH doing a great job as some kind of psycho killer villain in a better-executed original flick, but there’s a vibe to Freddy Krueger that this film didn’t deliver at all.
I must say that i love these lines. "What game you want to play next?" "F*ck you!" "Ooh sounds like fun" Reminds me of the joker. "Very poor choice of words"

The only horror franchises I know that haven't driven themselves off a cliff after entry 3 or 4 is Scream and Child's Play (which did have Seed of Chucky but hopped back up in the next two movies). Going on longer than 3 or 4 is usually a recipe for disaster.
This is the only movie of this month's EFAP journey that I haven't seen. And I still have no desire to. I think I'm pretty much in agreement with the list at the end. "Freddy v Jason" and "Dream Warriors" are both pretty top-notch as far as the 'Elm Street" series is concerned. "FvJ" takes the top slot for me in both entertainment and quality, simply because you can tell it was made with a great deal of love and respect for both franchises. They took a dumb premise and made it as well as you could possibly hope for. It's a far better movie than it has any right to be.
I get the horrible feeling that all of the stuff with discovering the 'cave' is because of the J-horror wave at the time, since this is structured really similarly to the investigation in the Ring films (and the guy speaking direct to his webcam is just straight out of the _other_ J-horror film, Pulse), which seems completely bizarre to try and shove into a Nightmare on Elm Street reboot.
1:35:27 Whoever decided to write "Freddy's Dead" as the 6th movie in the top list and "The Final Nightmare" as the 6th movie in the bottom list needs to be forced to stream Lord of Ring: Gollum (again).

They really thought the Smells Like Teen Spirit music video director would be a great choice to direct a Nightmare On Elm Street reboot.
That mid movie ‘what’d ya bring me’ was better edited than the majority of modern Hollywood movies
Which ones? From 30s, 60s, 90s or 10s?
After the Flanagan praising at the end, yall HAVE to do am episode on Dr. Sleep. Honestly, it's just as good as the shining.
That would be Katie Cassidy, David Cassidy's daughter. She was indeed in Supernatural, and she also played Black Canary in CW's Arrow.
@@christopherauzenne5023 Seems like they tried it with Freddy being more grim and moody...
Freddy vs Jason is so much better than Batman v Superman it’s comical 😂
44:32 I mean, Groundskeeper Willie killed the kids of the parents who let him burn at the PTA meeting....
"Someone mute Rags" is something we all think constantly.
Every efap video.
All I remember of this movie is that I fell asleep about 20 minutes in.
Aye up lads! I've done a bit of research and here's some things what I found interesting:
• Jackie Earle Haley was contracted for 3 movies. The other 2 never happened. He also called the original "the worst movie he has ever seen"
• The CGI on Freddy's face were done by the same team what did The Dark Knight
• Jackie Earle Haley might have auditioned for the role of Freddy in the original film but I couldn't find a reliable source on this
• The movie was supposed to be good, but was a disappointment
To be fair to the writers, how could they have known that a creepy, child-molester version of Freddy who speaks in innuendos wouldn’t resonate with audiences?
Just when the crew thought the original was bad 😂 This one makes it look like a masterpiece
The first one is the best one. How about it makes 5 look like a masterpiece?
@@porkflaps4717 The first one is not the best one.
freddy looks like a fallout 4 reject ghoul amd the plot is even more boring than the last remake. i cant believe that freddy vs jason was a real movie with a plot and good pacing. How!!!
freddy was never scary, he was always a massive goof, especially when he tried to be scary. the entertainment factor was watching englund have fun. they tried to make a dark serious movie about a serial killer who joked about and had silly inventive kills.
I don't think that this one stands a fighting chance against Freddy vs. Jason or any other Nightmare on Elm Street for that matter. I'd say that it doesn't even have legs to stand on, not even one.
Can it stand on its tipples?
It was foreshadowing the terrible future of media.

Hell no. Freddy Vs Jason is S tier.

Easily the winner of the whole series.
Dreamscape (1984) handled the concept better than almost all of the Elm Street movies with the possible exception of 3. Not sure if it holds up but I remember really liking it when I first saw it.
As a kid not from merica these reboots were my first interactions with the classic franchises.

Before immediately back tracking and being like "He was a horrible PDF all along" which makes me wonder why they even bothered they should have committed to Freddy being innocent or left it out entirely instead of whatever the hell it was that they did.

Imma rewatch that efap
I’ve seen it twice. Hated it both times just like I hate every film in the franchise after the third.
Damn that's impressive, best i can do is go for days just sleeping 2-3 hours
@@mrminecraftcubeable the key is the speed.

Is your job a night guard or something?
I had a bad case of COVID this year that kept me from sleeping for over 3 days because I couldn’t swallow without pain, and had constant drainage. I had to enter a meditative state that was like dreaming just to cope.
Spin City is amazing. Michael J Fox the chief of staff for the mayor of NYC played by Barry Bostwick
Went downhill after Charlie Sheen replaced him.

Can’t wait for the Friday and Halloween arcs! The Halloween timeline rabbit hole is quite daunting for outsiders.
I can't believe we went through an entire arc without Orlando Bloom. Heresy.
Halloween is my favorite time of year for the efaps.

I loved Spin City but no one I know remembers it existed either. Even people I watched it with … Lol
Like the Drew Carey Show.
Would love you guys to watch Behind the Mask - the Rise of Leslie Durnan.
England is in it. It's like a meta love letter to these old franchises.

@@Elizabelle79 It's a great movie and I hope they look it up!
Great stuff as always lads .Will we ever get to see the Austin Powers EFAP ? 🙏🏻
Perhaps the real Freddy was the EFAPs we watched along the way...
Well, that was beyond anticlimactic.
I’d love to see the crew watch Dreamscape. It’s an 80s dream movie with lots of practical effects and some interesting ideas.
Also why did they turn Freddy into a weird hairless catboy? I hate the prosthetics in this one.
This arc has been so much fun! Dream Warriors is the favourite for me.
Nah, Rorschach doesn't say cringy shit like Freddy does in this and the voice is different too.
I must say that i love these lines.
"What game you want to play next?"
"F*ck you!"
"Ooh sounds like fun"
Reminds me of the joker. "Very poor choice of words"
46:58 Rags, this is 2010 iPods do exost but about 3 years ago at that point a new little device came out, very similar to the iPod except way better cause it was the iPhone. By 2010, people were jailbreaking their phones. They were very handy ans very stimulating.
I know now why i thought this franchise was so good.
I'd only ever watched 3 for most of my life.
The Chad Freddy vs the virgin Fred. What a complete shitshow
Im waiting for Efap Armageddon now that Mauler mentioned the "Bayark"
The only movie that makes my dad cry, for some freaking reason
Freddy sounds like Duke Nukem in this movie.
I think nightmare on elm street premise would be a lot better if it wasn't a slasher movie. Instead was a more eldritch dream monster.
You can't spell "REBOOT" without: "BOO!!"
Happy Halloween!
One liners can be epic! “I have such sights to show you!”
Do not cry, it is a waste of good suffering
The scariest thing in this EFAP Movies was Capital-O.
What a sour ending to the arc. Should've watched Freddy vs Jason last.
This movie is absolute dogshit, i hate it. It is a whole lot of nothing. Characters are forgettable, zero storyline. Freddy looks like absolute shit.
