    I trialled an AirSense 10 and then the Lowenstein. There was no contest. I bought the Prisma20A and have never looked back. It's a fantastic machine. And an interesting point on the sound - not only is the Primsa20A much quieter, any noise you can hear is very constant. I found with the AS10 that it changed pitch on inhale and exhale. I could hear it "breathe". Your video demonstrated this as well.

    Want to thank you for all your work, Uncle Nicko! An appreciative fan from Montreal, Canada, here! Your videos helped me select a machine (Löwenstein Prisma Smart Max) a little over a month ago to help me with my newly diagnosed "severe" level sleep apnea. I'll be able to use the app once I upgrade my 8-yr-old smartphone (one big expense at a time!!), but for now, main thing is that it's helping me stay awake in the daytime! Your reviews are on the Prisma 20A. The only Löwenstein model I could select was the Smart Max (it was that or a ResMed 10 or 11, the most popular here), but I figured the build and algorithm qualities would likely be the same in the "Smart" as in the "20A" model. Hope I'm right! Anyway cheers, and compliments on your lovely family too! Those happy smiling kiddos always make my day, so thanks and congrats on your YT award! 💐😃

    I can confirm there is an easy way to power from battery supply.
    The official system for 20A is a 12V inverter to 230vac, but a 12vDC-37vDC converter can be DIY'd.

    • @CPAPReviews
      @CPAPReviews  Год назад

      Hey buddy, i did mention the inverters. Easy? Perhaps but it’s an extra piece of equipment and because they are not efficient in the conversion ( and some noisy ) you need to get a larger battery and its also expensive ( on top of an expensive device ) 👍

    • @damian2079
      @damian2079 Год назад +2

      @CPAPReviews Yep, I agree the inverter is a clunky solution.
      I have now made a couple of 12-36 converters to do it direct.

    i still love my Lowenstein after 2 years, it is not only comfortable in the sleep, but it even helps me to fall in sleep very quickly ( apr.5 minutes) it is indeed very quite. the device is handed over by my health insurance. when i got it i could find difficult information about it, ad i was jealously looking to the nice ResMed design, but after 2 years and your review , i am very happy i got this one and not the ResMed. i have tried the humidifier for a couple of months, but i noticed it worked for me better without. the humidifier increases the humidity but also the temperature, that i did not find comfortable.

    I bought the Prisma20A, great CPAP machine and Nicko brings it to life with these informative video's. I have found a solution for the humidification shower caused by the buildup up of moisture in the breathing tube. If I run the tube from the CPAP and next to me under my blanket and up into the mask then my body heat on the outside of the tube prevents condensation buildup inside the tube.

    About time 😂 I've been waiting a year for you to do this one ha ha. I didn't have to add a cloud to got it to connect to my Bluetooth on phone. I have had a conversation with the makers about 7 months ago on how to make the app a little better.
    The rod does get mineral build up when it goes dry. It's so quite that the only noise you hear is from the mask.

    I have the Lowenstein and love it. I opted for the set pressure version, as my AHI is now low. The reporting is great. I get a message daily with my previous night's sleep, or I can connect with Bluetooth and connect. I tried the heated hose. But the water heater is sufficient. We went all thru Asia for 7 weeks and it never missed a beat. My sleep specialist got the report sent to him at my Jan visit. He said it was well detailed and I was out in 5 mins. I believe one of the other makers batteries will fit it for remote use, but check with your supplier. My 2 previous machines were an Airsense 10 an a F&P. This is 100% better

      Heya Bob, thanks for the comment! You're most likely waking up after REM sleep when the pressure is highest and although you wake up, it does take some time for the pressure to drop back down so you will be more conscious of the noise etc. Turn the machine off and back on again if you're struggling, it will drop the pressure back down to the min and will gradually ramp back up when you fall asleep again. The softpap is not for everyone as it raises pressure again before end of exhale. For me EPR is much better, including raising the min pressure, which softpap does not demand. I power the unit at home or away with an ecoflow river pro which I already owned for camping. When mains power is connected to the eco it will passthrough to any device bypassing the battery and inverter. When the power cuts out will take over like a ups, brilliant. There is a reason these are not designed for dc input, the power requirement of the big motor and heated tube plus humidifier is massive. I have run the ecoflow flat on a cold night over 8 hours.

    I've been using the Lowenstein Prisma 20a for three months now, and overall, it's a fantastic machine. However, I did encounter a slight issue with the first machine being a bit noisy, prompting me to exchange it for another one. Unfortunately, the second machine also developed the same noise problem after just three days, and I assumed it was a common issue. Both machines emit a loud, high-pitched whirring noise as it revs up for my inhalation, along with a slight ticking noise from the motor. Has anyone else experienced similar problems with their machines? It's a bit unfortunate because, aside from this noise issue, the machine is nearly perfect in all other aspects.

      @@miranda_1111 - I have had mine for about 3 weeks now and I hardly notice the sound. Mostly because it's not there always. Also I don't get to hear it for more than 3 to 5 mins because I fall asleep quite fast, as compared to the Resmed (which I had for trial), that would give me the feeling of being Darth Vader, as the device amplified my breathing sound and disturbed me as well as others. My humble advice would be to go through the trial and I have a feeling, that just like in my case, you may stop hearing the wheezing sound in about 4 to 5 days.
      I always felt that the Resmed was trying to smother me with its air pressure and I kind of dreaded the thought of going to sleep. The Prisma 20 with its SoftPap 3 and it's Dynamic setting, has kind of got me addicted to go to bed. By afternoon I am looking forward to getting to bed. My wife and kids did notice the wheezing sound in the initial days but these days (2 to 3 weeks later) my son has to stick his ear to the device to hear it. Otherwise it is super silent.

    Hello. Just got this as my CPAP device after being recently diagnosed with sleep apnea. How does the humidifier work? My room humidifier produces thin fine mist. Does this go through the tube to my mask instead of working like regular room humidifier? I.e it goes directly to the air I’m breathing from the machine instead of humidifying the room? Might be a stupid question but I just wanted to make sure and make sense of all of this. TIA

    Hey guys. I'm very new to this CPAP stuff. And I'm very surprised after reading comments on a number of videos that different machines, and especially different brand machines, can give a user a different sleep experience.
    I was very surprised to see this as I would have thought that, leaving aside things like the machines build quality, cost, quietness, water reservoir size etc etc that they would all basically function the same and give pretty much the same experience. But that doesn't seem to be the case. Can someone please direct me to a video that explains this. I'm quite baffled by it.

      This machine will run as long as you can sleep, even if you want to or can sleep 12 hours or more. At the time I was looking to purchase a unit, the clinic I was under were charging over $2k by the time they provided a mask etc. In the end there was only a few hundred dollars in it, and the package I got with the Prisma20A was much more comprehensive in what it included, and with spare parts and cleaning accessaries.
      Start for the first time getting a machine I certainly didn’t want to pay less on an uncomfortable machine to then want to purchase another unit within the next 5 years
      The lower pressure demonstrated while controlling apneas also had advantages in reducing other side effects, and as a first time user to have a more comfortable experience to get use to regular therapy.
      That said I have a friend who has a Resmed and no particular complaints, he scored very good second hand deal :)
