      +TheMikeBase Yes really exciting to see the transformation. I'm assuming it will still take many years/decades to get fully away from combustion engines. And even then there will always be for semi trucks and earth movers

    • @martinlacey5985
      @martinlacey5985 8 лет назад

      Semi's and earth movers should also convert without too many problems.

      Not sure if I agree. The financial case, especially if autonomous driving is adopted is very very strong. No diesel + no drover = huge savings to pay off fleet purchases. I wonder if any fleet operators in London wish to comment?

    • @ErikJonOfficial
      @ErikJonOfficial  8 лет назад +5

      +Mrmartinnico that guy is Elon Musk, the man behind Tesla, SpaceX, SolarCity, Paypal, Zip2, etc. He was born in South Africa and moved to Canada before schooling and moving to the United States. Musk has stated that the goals of SolarCity, Tesla Motors, and SpaceX revolve around his vision to change the world and humanity. His goals include reducing global warming through sustainable energy production and consumption, and reducing the "risk of human extinction" by "making life multiplanetary" by setting up a human colony on Mars.
      The difference between knowledge and wisdom is that wisdom is knowledge applied.

    Game Changer!! Debatable whether Lithium Ion batteries are the right energy storage technology, but I am sure looking forward to us humans not having to incinerate dead dinosaurs just so we can go to work or buy groceries. This is bigger than the Ford Model T and could help undo all the damage that fossil fuels and the havoc finding and exploiting them has caused.

  • @rafaelnubile

    Here in Brazil, where the electric energy is generated mostly by hydropower, this would be very significant. There, the electricity is produced mostly by burning coal and natural gas. I didn't make the calculations, but looks like it is just changing the place where the pollution is produced. By the way, I really loved the car. Just wondering how we can change the energy source and I'm sad we don't have Tesla in Brazil.

    • @ivojara
      @ivojara 8 лет назад +1

      +rafaelnubile It's not... A gasoline powered car is 14 to 20% efficent, a coal power plant reaches efficiencies of 45%,and an electric car reaches efficiencies of 90%, so it is still (worst case scenario) doubling the efficiency of a normal gasoline powered car, or cutting emissions by half. and no energy matrix is 100% coal, the US has 34% of its energy generated by nuclear and renewables (including 6% hydro), taking this into account we can say that if it used in an electric car it rougly triples the efficiency of a gasoline powered vehicle, thus cutting emissions to less than a third...

    Isn't it a bit dangerous if cars are completely silent? Sometimes, with bad visibility, up to now the car noise is the only thing to warn you. Maybe there should be some noise generator that only works outward to warn pedestrians or cyclists.

    • @ipullstuffapart
      @ipullstuffapart 8 лет назад

      +Gandaleon They have the average noise of a typical car at idle due to cooling systems and air conditioning.
      If pedestrians are stupid enough that they need the sound of an ICE to warn them before they cross the road - then that's survival of the fittest. The problem with cyclists is the drivers not follwwing the law, not the cyclists not hearing cars. As a cyclist it is generally rather difficult hearing a normal car approaching anyway. Hint: exhaust on rear of car, very well muffled

    • @Gandaleon
      @Gandaleon 8 лет назад

      +ipullstuffapart
      So you've never ever crossed the road at night or in fog? You always follow the rules and never cross the street, except at a traffic light?
      Also, I don't mean an ear-deafening sound but just something - a whistle or anything - to let me know there's a car approaching or driving behind me. Since the Tesla is also a very fast car, it's easy for drivers to speed along - and while I trust the car itself - I don't trust the drivers, since now they're fast AND stealthy.

    • @ipullstuffapart
      @ipullstuffapart 8 лет назад

      Gandaleon
      Correct, nothing annoys me more than seeing people Jay-Walk, so I don't do it myself. Intersections are made for a reason. Trust me, they're just about as noisy as a typical modern car idling along at 60km/h, only difference is they don't get much louder when you step on the pedal.

    • @Gandaleon
      @Gandaleon 8 лет назад

      +ipullstuffapart
      It annoys me, too, but I don't think people should die because of it. XD
      I DO trust you. I just didn't know if they made any noise at all - they seemed to be very quiet in the videos I've seen.

    it's all cool, but as a presenter - he really needs to give this job to someone else or try to do a better job. He talks way to poorly to give this presentation. The moment should have been much bigger and smoother IMHO

      +Andrei Motinga It's the message that counts.

    • @ejecea

      +Andrei Mooting - He's a genius, not some marketing guy. NO ONE could say it better than the man himself.

    • @andreimotinga1826
      @andreimotinga1826 8 лет назад

      I don't he's a genius, I think he's an entrepreneur. Tesla was a genius. Famous scientists are genius. He's just a businessman, but to be fair, I might be wrong, I don't know much about him, so I'm probably wrong. I just don't count successful business people as geniuses ( which doesn't mean they aren't). As for "none could say it better than himself". I don't know. I respectfully disagree.
      Jobs's accents, speech was all good. he could present it in a way it sounded like a big deal. Here... Tesla is awesome, but presentation kinda looks like it's next prius... Doesn't feel like big step ahead. Anyway, I understand why he wouldn't let anyone "take all the credit" for it by presenting, I wouldn't do it even if barely spoke English ( which I do). All I'm saying he should probably rehearse or take a speech class or something, to make it look like a bigger moment. Or hire some better media people
