Wild. I haven't played AoS in a year or so but I used to play a good amount of tournaments. Exclusively a stormcast player, and these models make up literally 90% of my ~3K points. I guess I'm now not actually an AoS player, as I don't have a legal army... mental.
As a Stormcast player I find this move by Games Workshop really unfair. Do models like the Aventis Firestrike really deserve to be removed from the matched format? My collection is for a good 60/70% Sacrosant. In a single afternoon it is no longer worth anything. And to those who say "they can be used in the Open format" I want to say one thing. I am not a tournament player or a competitive player but anyone, even just to guarantee a balanced and up-to-date game, plays matched, even occasionally. The Open format only exists in the heads of GW game designers. If before I was eagerly awaiting AoS 4.0, now the desire has almost completely disappeared. My adventure with the Stormcast certainly ends here.
GW are unethical twat waffles. Play One Page Rules and you don't have to worry about the money time and energy you have invested in your collection again.

I stoped playing when it became apperant GW cant maintain rules and sculpt updates for the range without some players haveing a 24 month period of being trash. I will come back when GW releases the rules for ALL factions with the GHB for each season. The rolling update is BS. The fact that they have sculpts that are 30 years old when some factions get a new sculpt every month is BS.
And just like that, the saftey of purchasing any niche army, game system, or even a niche model, has been completely shot since not even a 6yr old poster child model is safe from just being rendered illegal
For all the BoC fans, they translate very easily into a themed S2D army: Ungors -> Marauders Gors -> Chaos warriors (maybe pack on some armor) Bestigors -> Chosen Bullgors -> Ogroid theridons Beast lord -> Chaos lord Shaman -> Sorcerer Centigors -> Fellriders Dragon ogors -> Chaos knights The list goes on. Basically every BoC unit has a fairly obvious counter part in Slaves. If you really like the models then this is an easy fix, and now you can snap up some doom posters BoC on the cheap to expand your army. You can see obstacles, or you can see possibilities.
I get the first edition Stormcast leaving is perfectly fine. But WHY THE SACROSANCT?? I'm just confused. Like, why? I didn't LOVE them, and I get dropping one or two low sellers, but why the Sequitors and Castigators? I hope they get new sculpts anyways. I'm just confused man As for Bonesplitterz and Beasts, I honestly don't think they should ever have been full armies, so I kinda get it. I just would have made the Beasts a little bit of a suppliment for Slaves to Darkness, with a few less options, sure, but still something.

More likeli trimming less popular armies to improve release cycle for all products in case of beastmen etc. and range refresh in case of Stormcast, since old sculpts look really dated compared to new ones (I personally never liked stubby sigmarines so for me it's change for better ;) ).
@@groke144 I do get what you mean, but if units have the same weapons and look pretty much the same like how some of the storm casts do then it feels like making older sculpts now non legal is bad. It would be like making the old MK3 armoured marines non legal but the new scale ones that replaced the old sculpts legal. Having a mini that's the same load out but a but thinner in the chest or waist the legal one and the old sculpt non usable, seems pretty dishonest by GW. Even with a different statline they could have just said "these have a new name and stats, oh and a new replacement sculpt too." as for cutting beastmen that's OK. It's more the cutting models that have a new sculpt forcing players with existing models to keep rebuying the same unit again and again as its the newer version that's the bit leaving a bad taste more than anything.

I had a huge Tomb Kings and Wood Elf armies, and a small Brettonian force when AoS came about, so I know it can feel bad. Paladins should be able to work as annihilators, and heroes are pretty interchangeable depending on base/model size. We haven't seen the new lists yet, so we don't know what else they can fit in as. I also own several landspeeders and contemptor dreadnoughts for 40k, and those were squatted. It happens.
Some of those character monster models are gorgeous, it’s a crime to remove them. Would definitely buy them now but they’re already sold out! Did manage to get the magic guys on dragon dogs from third party online thankfully. Beasts of Chaos got the most screwed over though, it’s Horus heresy’s beautiful new plastic dreadnought and tank kits all over again
I just started AoS two days ago and bought a whole bunch of Stormcast at my local GW store. I specifically asked the GW guy if there was any cuts or model refreshes coming with the new edition, and if should wait to buy. He said no its safe to buy. Im fucked.
You will be able to use the old models if you want to don't worry. Proxy's are fine in the community, as long as you have the right base size you're all good. I'd also say don't worry too much about weapon options either just tell people what the load outs are when you play them. My experience is the community's great, and 99% of people are decent normal people who won't kick off about models :)
take it back and get a full refund, seriously you wont be able to kitbash with other kits (Since those are going too) you wont be able to build an army since again (those are going too) unless you are only buying to just paint they are worthless (unless you hold onto them and sell them at a markup of course).

Been through this so many times with GW that i've switched my fantasy over to Kings of War - Mantic takes a long term 'dadhammer' mindset, where you don't have unlimited time or money to devote to your hobby and want to not waste either.

Not really, most of the sce stuff can be "counts as". The range is also getting a Thunderstrike overhaul. The bonesplitterz and beastmen are getting kicked to TOW. Chaos dwarfs and Umbraneth are going to be new AoS factions and Skaven are getting updated.

Always remember that GW only wants your money. If they could literally delete those models from your collection they would. They don't want you being able to use a model from one system in another is so that you have to buy MORE from them.
The models look great, but the lore is really bad. I think GW set themselves up for failure by making the various realms ridiculous huge. No conflict, siege or loss has any impact.
I purchased and painted a Sacrosanct army because they were the coolest looking stormcast. I saw the news of a new edition having not played in a couple of years, thought the trailer looked cool etc and then read they were cutting the range. Guess I don’t care about this edition either eh.
Warhammer is a very expensive hobby. I feel bad for anyone that got involved and invested the time and money because they liked beasts of chaos or bonesplitterz and then they get told "just rebase and play the old world or play with a weak list forever after 2025" when they may not enjoy that type of game.

Not allowing the same models to be used in 2 different game systems is a simple matter of profit. The more minis they sell, the better of they are. That's also why they keep issuing new editions every couple of years with new minis. It's a good business model, but it strongly leans on the existing player base to keep it going. This whole business model is a big part of why I haven't gotten into anything Games Workshop sells. It's too expensive, both for the initial buy in and for the "upkeep".
I was planning on building a Horns of Hashut themed Slaved to Darkness force, that's gone out of the window now. I'm giving up on AoS and doubling down on Middle Earth instead.

Warhammer Underworlds has its own cycle of retiring warbands and re-releasing them in a box set a year or two later. I guess the ones listed are next on the block.
Back in the early 2000's they did it with WH40k. My whole army became obsolete overnight and friends and a few influencers dropped the game. But if you are 20 or younger you might have never heard about it. So they are playing like Disney with Star Wars with their "Legends" lol

aventus is the named version of lord arcanum on tauralon. so no you only get the generic ruleset. still a perfectly useful kit. The fact that only the named version is going makes me think that they are just reducing named versions of generic characters. likely all the generic ones will either show up in ruination chamber, or they will proxy as a different unit.
I doubt stormcast models are staying dead for long, they are just getting new sculpts and culling the hero bloat. They made a lot of proxies today. Culling the hero section down has been a long time coming for them. Skaven will return too (it's in the article, they just won't all be back at once). Beasts of Chaos/bonesplitterz are wild loses this deep into the run.
GW needs to cut this shit out. If they assembled the minis and painted them, it wouldn't be so bad, but this shit killed off half my 40K army. I'll never want to play 40K again.
I prefer the old look. I liked the bulky tank look, makes them look like heavy hitters. The new look resembles medium armor while the old represents heavy armor. Well I won’t buy the new models and just play casual with the old rules.
GW are a licensing, copywriter, library and shareholder company. We all need to stop listening to their ‘we are a miniatures company’ line. Their profit margins are no longer in supported miniature hobby games sadly (for us).

It kind of boggles my mind how much stuff Stormcast has been made in 9 years, given that just the stuff leaving is more than the entire World Eaters range. So many Warcry warband being so wholly supported in AoS is good but totally unsustainable in the long term, I can see why some of them went. Maybe GW just want a massive stock clear out?
What I don't understand is making Liberators Legends. . .but they are dropping new models? I own the Thunderstrike Brotherhood box but only the two characters were saved from this list. But if the unit is simply getting new models, just use the old kit you have with new rules.
They're not. That entire list is MODELS leaving the store. Sacrosanct will have its own battletome that will have updates until 2025. Warrior chamber is getting new models. Anything not getting a new model will go to legends.

I'm fine with them dropping most of these stormcast models from the product line, but instead of legends rules effectively telling people their models can't be played with at all, they should have just come out with a list of what still legal units you should run them as counts as style, so all your models stay game legal, even if they don't have rules that perfectly reflect them.
I prefer the original Liberators, but that design is what got me into Warhammer... I'm still getting the new starter set and it'll most probably have the new Liberators. I'm surprised the Sacrosanct Chamber got cut. I also have most of the Warcry warbands but I'm excited to get the Darkoath army. All of this wont affect me since I play 90% of my games at home... I haven't even played 3rd ed... Still excited for 4th ed though.
Nothing that GW does surprises me. Love their models but don't play any of their cash cow games anymore, other than Warcry, which I stopped buying for about 2 years ago.
I am very torn by this. Upfront I am new to AoS and 4th ed will be me taking it seriously for the first time. I do have stormcast from warbringer though that I was intending to use with the launch box. That being said I am a veeeerrrry old 40k marine player (early naughties). I also started with the first plastic marines made from the 1990's. GW upscale and refresh model lines. They just do. Where it hurts is when they completely remove stuff and this 'primarisification' where the refresh is accompanied by removing stuff to legends feels horrible. If it is accompanied by the trash warcomm style lore that came with marines in 8th which was in reality just marketing material masquerading as lore it will feel doubly worse

GW have always done this. Usually with no warning. I had a friend growing up with a large Chaos Dwarf army.

Paladins should be able to work as annihilators, and heroes are pretty interchangeable depending on base/model size. We haven't seen the new lists yet, so we don't know what else they can fit in as.
I also own several landspeeders and contemptor dreadnoughts for 40k, and those were squatted. It happens.
Some of those character monster models are gorgeous, it’s a crime to remove them. Would definitely buy them now but they’re already sold out! Did manage to get the magic guys on dragon dogs from third party online thankfully. Beasts of Chaos got the most screwed over though, it’s Horus heresy’s beautiful new plastic dreadnought and tank kits all over again
I just started AoS two days ago and bought a whole bunch of Stormcast at my local GW store. I specifically asked the GW guy if there was any cuts or model refreshes coming with the new edition, and if should wait to buy. He said no its safe to buy. Im fucked.

You will be able to use the old models if you want to don't worry. Proxy's are fine in the community, as long as you have the right base size you're all good. I'd also say don't worry too much about weapon options either just tell people what the load outs are when you play them. My experience is the community's great, and 99% of people are decent normal people who won't kick off about models :)
take it back and get a full refund, seriously you wont be able to kitbash with other kits (Since those are going too) you wont be able to build an army since again (those are going too) unless you are only buying to just paint they are worthless (unless you hold onto them and sell them at a markup of course).

Models are immortal, and the rules are not even worth the paper/pixels on which they are printed.
Been through this so many times with GW that i've switched my fantasy over to Kings of War - Mantic takes a long term 'dadhammer' mindset, where you don't have unlimited time or money to devote to your hobby and want to not waste either.
Whats funny is you guys can still play with these models with One Page Rules. They even have a stormcast like faction.

Not really, most of the sce stuff can be "counts as". The range is also getting a Thunderstrike overhaul. The bonesplitterz and beastmen are getting kicked to TOW. Chaos dwarfs and Umbraneth are going to be new AoS factions and Skaven are getting updated.

It kind of erodes alot of my trust in buying into a new edition. Like with a straight face who would recommend getting into a game with a heavy time investment, to have the possibility of that being yeeted in 6 years.
I wonder if they will do the same with Kill Team / 40K as they have done with Warcry / AOS and stop supporting every single Kill Team what comes out with 40K rules

Always remember that GW only wants your money. If they could literally delete those models from your collection they would. They don't want you being able to use a model from one system in another is so that you have to buy MORE from them.

The models look great, but the lore is really bad. I think GW set themselves up for failure by making the various realms ridiculous huge. No conflict, siege or loss has any impact.

I purchased and painted a Sacrosanct army because they were the coolest looking stormcast. I saw the news of a new edition having not played in a couple of years, thought the trailer looked cool etc and then read they were cutting the range. Guess I don’t care about this edition either eh.
Also the Age of Sigmar Reddit mods are deleting posts & comments. Also removing anything that uses the word "Squatting"
Warhammer is a very expensive hobby. I feel bad for anyone that got involved and invested the time and money because they liked beasts of chaos or bonesplitterz and then they get told "just rebase and play the old world or play with a weak list forever after 2025" when they may not enjoy that type of game.

Not allowing the same models to be used in 2 different game systems is a simple matter of profit. The more minis they sell, the better of they are. That's also why they keep issuing new editions every couple of years with new minis. It's a good business model, but it strongly leans on the existing player base to keep it going. This whole business model is a big part of why I haven't gotten into anything Games Workshop sells. It's too expensive, both for the initial buy in and for the "upkeep".
I was planning on building a Horns of Hashut themed Slaved to Darkness force, that's gone out of the window now.
I'm giving up on AoS and doubling down on Middle Earth instead.

Back in the early 2000's they did it with WH40k. My whole army became obsolete overnight and friends and a few influencers dropped the game. But if you are 20 or younger you might have never heard about it. So they are playing like Disney with Star Wars with their "Legends" lol

aventus is the named version of lord arcanum on tauralon. so no you only get the generic ruleset. still a perfectly useful kit.
The fact that only the named version is going makes me think that they are just reducing named versions of generic characters. likely all the generic ones will either show up in ruination chamber, or they will proxy as a different unit.

I doubt stormcast models are staying dead for long, they are just getting new sculpts and culling the hero bloat. They made a lot of proxies today. Culling the hero section down has been a long time coming for them. Skaven will return too (it's in the article, they just won't all be back at once).
Beasts of Chaos/bonesplitterz are wild loses this deep into the run.
GW needs to cut this shit out. If they assembled the minis and painted them, it wouldn't be so bad, but this shit killed off half my 40K army. I'll never want to play 40K again.

I prefer the old look. I liked the bulky tank look, makes them look like heavy hitters. The new look resembles medium armor while the old represents heavy armor. Well I won’t buy the new models and just play casual with the old rules.
GW are a licensing, copywriter, library and shareholder company. We all need to stop listening to their ‘we are a miniatures company’ line. Their profit margins are no longer in supported miniature hobby games sadly (for us).

It kind of boggles my mind how much stuff Stormcast has been made in 9 years, given that just the stuff leaving is more than the entire World Eaters range. So many Warcry warband being so wholly supported in AoS is good but totally unsustainable in the long term, I can see why some of them went.
Maybe GW just want a massive stock clear out?

They're not. That entire list is MODELS leaving the store. Sacrosanct will have its own battletome that will have updates until 2025. Warrior chamber is getting new models. Anything not getting a new model will go to legends.

I'm fine with them dropping most of these stormcast models from the product line, but instead of legends rules effectively telling people their models can't be played with at all, they should have just come out with a list of what still legal units you should run them as counts as style, so all your models stay game legal, even if they don't have rules that perfectly reflect them.

I prefer the original Liberators, but that design is what got me into Warhammer... I'm still getting the new starter set and it'll most probably have the new Liberators. I'm surprised the Sacrosanct Chamber got cut. I also have most of the Warcry warbands but I'm excited to get the Darkoath army. All of this wont affect me since I play 90% of my games at home... I haven't even played 3rd ed... Still excited for 4th ed though.
Nothing that GW does surprises me. Love their models but don't play any of their cash cow games anymore, other than Warcry, which I stopped buying for about 2 years ago.

I am very torn by this. Upfront I am new to AoS and 4th ed will be me taking it seriously for the first time. I do have stormcast from warbringer though that I was intending to use with the launch box.
That being said I am a veeeerrrry old 40k marine player (early naughties). I also started with the first plastic marines made from the 1990's. GW upscale and refresh model lines. They just do. Where it hurts is when they completely remove stuff and this 'primarisification' where the refresh is accompanied by removing stuff to legends feels horrible.
If it is accompanied by the trash warcomm style lore that came with marines in 8th which was in reality just marketing material masquerading as lore it will feel doubly worse
