Love watching you in the reflection in the into keep it up man gotta love the old vids
We're you happy with the aqua30 on this 20gallon? Thinking of a first tank I was planning aqua70 on a 20gal for filter & flow. Maybe that's over kill now that I see yours
Finally dude! I been waiting for an update on this tank!
Looks great by the way!
Thank you! Glad to hear people are looking forward to saltwater videos!
I found that it's better to turkeybaste your sand instead of cleaning it with a gravelvac..When you gravelvac your sand, you remove only the very fine detritus while the heavier chunks are left behind in the sand bed to rot..You also lose a lot of water while doing it..I found it better to get with the turkeybaster 1 inch or so above the sand bed and then forcefully inject water in the sand..This would kick up in the water column all detritus(even the heavier chunks)and then the filter would take care of it..But your sand bed should not be deeper then 1 inch or so for this to work..And if I was you,I would also upgrade that Aquaclear filter to a Seachem Tidal HOB which is way more appropriate for saltwater then the Aquaclear because it has a surface skimmer..
Thank you for the advice! The siphon I use is very strong and will suck up the sand and large chunks if I don’t pinch it at the end. I have noticed some bigger chunks in the tank and they all seem to migrate to the same spot so it’s relatively easy to remove them. Another person recommended the Seachem Tidal HOB so I will definitely check into that. Thanks again for the advice!
What light are you using ?
how many fish can you have in a 20 gallon like this ?
I’m not sure the exact number, but probably around 4 or 5 depending on their size
So you didn’t get the ugly stage in your tank?
I still got one but it wasn’t very bad. Just some diatom algae
My current light didn’t really do the job for my corals, wondering what your light setting and schedules are?
Dang already trying to add length to videos, preparing for the ads I see
Nah just making better content for the subscribers
what light do you have on your fish tank?
Love the updates on the saltwater tank! Looks like you have a good mix of different types of corals! Great little ecosystem you are building out!
Glad to hear! Thanks so much!
@@BarrysAquarium also everytime I feed my shrimp mysis shrimp I think the comment you made in one of your previous videos in thinking that they are cannibals haha!!
The tank looks good mate 👍🏻
Good luck with it!
Thank you! 👍
Sweet setup. Dude if u place the power head on the opposite side of the tank facing upwards u won’t have that surface scum. Plus you’ll have a nice cyclone affect in the tank. This will help with debris & fish feeling an ocean surge affect.
Ya I’ve considered that but the cord isn’t long enough. Thanks for the tip anyway!
How many fish and inverts and what are they other than the hermits?
I have three astrea snails, one pincushion urchin, two nassarius snails, a turbo snail, and a cleaner shrimp. For fish I have two clownfish and an orchid dottyback
No skimmer? What type of filter, and also are you dosing?
hi sir Barry, wanna ask the size of your beautiful tank.....
Hey man I kno this is a old video but was wondering the dimensions on your 20g tank ..? Is it true 20 gallon or is it 20g long / breeder ..? I want to start my own but am concerned about the depth of the tank I have purchased.
20 gal long
What lid do you use? I will have filter on side of lid
what kind of pump and heater are you using also
Are you my long-lost relative??? :-) I have tonnes of Xenia, so much so can't even give it away. Can FedEx you some :-) Low tech is the way to go. All I have is a canister filter, small in-tank skimmer, 2 wave makers and a chiller. Tank running like a dream. You see some videos on here with aquarium rooms looking like a operating theatre in a hospital. Equipment and tubes all over the place. Simplicity out the window.
Hahaha 😂 I know what you mean with those fancy tanks. Simplicity is key!
what kind of light are you using
Hey what camera do you use
What light?
Looks great.!.
Just food for thought concerning Pom Pom Xenia. They like tanks that have higher nitrates and some tanks that have lower levels, they become less happy. I have two smaller colonies that took a little to establish.
That definitely could have been what killed them off now that I think about it. Thanks for the advice!
They love phosphates
I’m a beginner so should I do this setup or buy a aio?
All in ones are probably easier but if you’re on a budget this setup is probably better.
What kinda filter do u use mines not doing the job
Aqua clear 30
Amazing set up mate! Have always wanted to go marine but always been told it’s a lot of work🙃 would you say it is? I have a 20 gallon just lying empty at the minute as I used it for fry in the past. I wouldn’t have a clue where to start getting the tank set up and keeping corals etc.
To be honest the only thing that’s different is just adding salt to the water 😂 I thought it would be a lot of work too, but I just watched a ton of RUclips videos and it honestly takes just as much effort as a freshwater planted tank. As long as you listen to other peoples advice it’s a walk in the park. The only downside is that everything costs twice as much :( Good luck if you decide to set one up and if you have any questions feel free to ask!
I’ve noticed the cost a lot since planning this lol appreciate it mate seen you use a hob filter how often will you have to clean that out? The only thing that I’ve left to figure out is the best affordable and most simpler way of filtering😂
I clean the filter out about every month 👍
What kind of substrate is that and where did u get it?

Just started watching, and I am loving your content! I like the simplicity of your setup. Since I am trying to get into the hobby myself, this looks like a great way to start. Would you mind sharing the equipment that you used for your tank?
Glad to hear! I use a hygger wave maker, an aquaclear 30 filter, an aqueon heater, and the light is a current marine orbit LED. I have a video called “setting up my first saltwater aquarium” that goes more in-depth if you are interested. Also good luck starting the hobby!
@@BarrysAquarium I set up the marine tank as a low profile tank too. Did not want to have a tank full of equipment and so far I have noticed there is a little more upkeep when it comes to cleanup when there is not much equipment to keep it clean. But did not want to add tons of equipment like skimmers and such.
how frequently do you do a water change
Every two weeks👍
What is the size dimension of that tank
I don’t know the dimensions, but it is a standard 20 gallon long. It’s pretty common and you can probably look up the dimensions online
Nice reef
Thanks!
What’s a frag plug? Can you show how you glue it to the rock. I love this series you have, great way to get into saltwater fish.
A frag plug (frag is short for fragment) is a small ceramic disk used to anchor down corals. I never have any luck glueing the plug directly to the rock, but I do take the coral off the plug and glue it straight to the rock. Glad to hear you like the vids and hope this helps!
@@BarrysAquarium I was looking around for tanks to buy and the best deal I found was a brand new 60 gallon tank with the stand for only $199!
That’s a great deal!
@@BarrysAquarium I might not get it because I think you’d need a sump for a tank that size and I don’t know how to do all that
Best to stick with what you are comfortable with
Looking good
Thanks!
Awesome dude!! I got my 40 gallon breeder supplies the other day. Just waiting on some live rock and then it’ll be up and running! I followed your start up video and bought the same light you did, just a size up. You should drop a video on what settings you used! Just and idea. :) Keep up the great work mate!!
Thank you and so cool to hear!!! I definitely might make a video on the light settings, but until then, in case you are curious, I have my light set with 60% blue, 10% white and 40% red. Good luck with your tank!
@@BarrysAquarium sweet thanks man!!
