I thought he and Marquise Walker will go down as the best overlooked Michigan WRs in history. Both played in the shadow of a legend early on (Desmond and David Terrell) but when they got their opportunity they killed it. BTW, Walkers catch against Iowa in Kinnick Stadium is only second to Desmond's ND catch in Michigan WR history. Loved both he and Alexander.
I was playing some Michigan football players in pick up basketball. There was a fast break and I was the only defender back. Derrick Alexander did this reverse alley oop while running full speed, he jumped at the free throw line, grabbed the ball mid air. When he jammed it through very hard and his head nearly touched the rim and he was yelling AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! as he reverse slam dunked it. And the whole gym including myself was just in awe. I never saw a slam dunk like that ever, not even in the NBA dunk contest. Derrick Alexander was a RIDICULOUS athlete. He was just goofing around
I still think Marquise Walker is more underrated, only because he is never ever talked about. Him and Alexander both lived in the shadows of giants; David Terrell and Desmond Howard. Both were all time great WRs in their own right.
Man I forgot what a great Return guy he was … I was a kid watching these games. What I remember most about DA was his hands. Throw the ball to number 1 on 3rd down. He never dropped a pass. Best hands by far
Wow did Alexander have great shiftiness in the open field, and when you gave him a seam, pure speed. BTW @ 1:31- is that Kirk Herbstreit on the kickoff coverage team?
Name me a better duo at returning punts and kicks than Derrick Alexander and Desmond Howard. They maybe the two best returners in Michigan history and they played at the same time. Ridiculous.
He’s one of the best wrs in school history and he’s usually overlooked. If he wasn’t hurt in 91 him and Desmond would have been something special.

It was good to hear Frank Beckman call some plays. He was the best. Jim Branstetter always seemed forced to me.
