- The second video in my series about working from home as a voiceover artist, with tips and tricks on how to vary your inflections to provide your clients with plenty of variety in your reads.
The whole series was recorded using a Nude Microphones 251 into a Golden Age Premier Pre-73 preamp.
Me again =^) Breathing is very important too - some voice talent will audibly empty their lungs as they read which makes the read sound like it's losing intensity and getting quieter - you can see this in the waveform. Also, watch for the 'shrug' inflection, where it sounds like you are shrugging your shoulders when you come to the end of a sentence...makes the read sound 'immature' (which can also be an effective technique for less 'rigid' scripts)
Nailed it, good tips for sure!
Great advice...you need A,B & C versions. Studio is looking great and that hair is so sharp you could cut yourself.
Haha thanks Walt!
On the A B and C thing, I actually realised one day that the more someone's paying me to read, the more versions I'm likely to send (so 3, 4 sometimes more) . For the "el cheapo" jobs, I think 2 is more than enough 😅
@@MattDavid true so long as those 2 reads are your best before they leave your Studio. I always deliver my best V/O performance, no matter whether it's a freebie for community service to give back to the community or full rate card for a major National TV/Radio or corporate project. Keep up the great work mate.
