Hey Matt, good to see one of these beasts again! I had one in the 90s at some point, hazy memories though I’m afraid, but a great sounding desk. Leaves were an odd company. 90% of what they made was total crap and 10% total gold. This fell into the gold camp! The EQ split switch sends the shelving EQ to the B mix channel. I think that had its own outputs if I remember rightly, so probably isn’t broken, and was used mainly for monitor mixes for musicians. You could split the EQ if the singer wanted more highs or lows and you didn’t, for example. Thanks for the great vid, brought back some happy (hazy) memories!
Hey, thanks for the tip, I'm gonna have a try of that and see if you're right (you probably are). So good to meet another person that has used this desk in the past. I'm very lucky that it's an unknown beast because it meant I was able to pick it up for a steal. But at the same time I'm keen for more people to know about them and even more keen to release some of the music I've been making with it (stay tuned for that, should be something in the next couple of months!).
Yeah I realised after I made the video that the mic/line : tape button would be used for that, and so I may do it in the future once I can afford all the outboard gear to use in a setup like that, in order to do it justice! At the moment I just sum through the top right and it gives me some nice results in terms of analogue flavour and stereo spread.
Thanks mate! At the moment it's all running into M-Audio Profire 2626's then into an RME Digiface via ADAT, but there's a plan to try and get something with better converters in the next week or 2 so will let you know what I end up with.
@@MattDavid with that setup, the presonus 4848 would be a great setup for your console ans any other preamps/outboard gear. I think PresentDayProductions might have advice since they also use a lot of presonus interfaces.
@@mostyles328 Funny you mention that, I was looking at getting a Studiolive 32r, based on their video about the 24r. The 4848 looks good but it's thunderbolt, which I don't have (being PC) so would need to get an add on card (and pray it works properly), plus I'd need to get DB25 cables, another expense. Have been looking into Antelope Audio Orion 32, I found a good price on a used one, but again would still need the DB25 cables. Studiolive 32r would allow me to plug straight in without needing extra cables, the TRS plugs bypass the pres, plus it has DSP and wireless mixing with an ipad... decisions decisions :D
@@MattDavid Funny you mention the Presonus 32R. I'm an IT Director for a small college and just purchased one 4 months ago for my A/V engineer to install in our largest auditorium. It's used to host and record speakers, musicians and events. It has worked perfectly and even an audible improvement over the Behringer XR18 we had previously. Even more user friendly for myself or other techs to fill in when needed. The best part is we are using Universal control on a Dell touchscreen monitor and is simulates having the analog board in the back of the house, or where ever you have a networked computer. I also have to say, AVB (or Dante) is going to be the future of Audio recording soon and it great to have that future flexibility with the 32R. For my personal studio, I'm on the fence as well. The Quantum for super low latency, or the huge flexibility of the studio live 24r or 32r. If I didn't just build a new Thunderbolt PC, It wouldn't even be a question what would make more sense. Also thanks for some of you preamp video comparisons help me a lot as well. Thanks Mate!
@@mostyles328 What a coincidence. That's great that you have it and it's working well for you. I think generally most people seem pretty happy with this gear. The Quantum is appealing for sure, though without any way to plug it in right now and no money to invest in a new system, I can't look at it as an option. Plus I found a great price on an Orion 32 which is USB and a similar beast (with DB25 plugs) so would be more of a consideration for me at the moment. Let me know what you end up with though, curious to know what direction you go with it. Check Reverb and also Euro sites like gear4music, musicstore, funky junk and SX audio, there are some great prices to be had through those sites.
So… I have one of these! Long story short … $50 and it was mine so… hell yeah!!! But … little idea what I’m doing… very new to music. Anyway… I had it working but cleaned and reset all settings/buttons… and now can’t figure out how I had it set OR if there is an issue. Any chance you have a manual or could answer a few questions!!! I’m in the US… Seattle in Washington State. Very cool seeing you review this bad boy!
Hi Matt, I live in Burleigh! I have just purchased a Peavey AMR 2400 large format console, it arrives next week. Would like to catch up at some point as I have a few questions about your set up, which is similar to what I require. Would you be up for that?

This board is an inline console. If you have a interface with multiple outs, you can use the tape returns to do hybrid mixing.
