This was exactly the progression, yes! I bought a 246 in 1986, made my first album on it, and then replaced it with the 388 in 1988 (and made five albums on that). You're so right that the two share the same elegantly designed, feature-rich DNA. I loved them more than I've loved any deck or DAW since (not that I don't appreciate the technical advances). These hold a special place in my heart... Thank you.
@ Pretty exciting 🤩. Honestly I'd been hoping you would get one at some point and make some music on it. It might be the most fun mixer to work with, at least short of the 688 😅. I'm also really curious on your thoughts on the overall sonic qualities compared to it's older bro the 244 🤔 🔊
@ yeah I’m really excited about using that mixer, looks like one of the best ones Tascam invented for a portastudio. I’ll definitely be making some tunes/videos on it when it arrives! 🙌😊
I collect Portastudios. My first recording format from the 80s! I own a 244, 246, PortaOne, PortaTwo, 414, 424 mkIII, and a 488. Used to own a 388, regret selling that one, but tape is expensive. I’d rather hoard my cassettes. Thanks for the video.
I just picked both up recently. I put the 246 through its paces, and just listened to some old 4 track tapes on on the 614. I haven’t heard any sonic differences yet, but you are right. Even though the 614 is sexy, I prefer the Tascam for sentimental reasons. I am end up liking the 614 who knows, but after this video that 388 is looking hot. I wish it had a ten inch reel.
Thanks for watching. You can get the stand from Zzounds (or other popular music gear outlets). I put my affiliate link in the video description if you'd like to support the channel.

Great video and Interesting background info on this model, I’ve just bought one myself! What stand are you using for yours, looks useful.
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. The stand is linked in the video description.
Whoa, Adrian! You finally picked up a 246?!
@ Hi Eric, yes🙌. Tetrakan has got it at the moment and is working his magic on it. 🤩

Thanks for watching. I’ve collected several myself. Thinking about highlighting some others in upcoming videos.
Nice job man!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video. :)
Nice video! I have a 388 and would love a 246 for simpler settings and setups, but hard to find these days.
Thank you. Good luck on your search!
There is one on Oakland Craigslist right now
@@AlchemicalAudio I’m in Europe alas. Thx though!
Not looking to sell the 388 are you David? 🙏😂
@ alas no! 😛
The 246 is a classy look, but I think the Akai MG614 is the sexiest four track.

I can't find the video link for the repair? Please upload more, love the content!
Thank you! Great catch! I forgot to include that. Here it is: ruclips.net/video/AZmb5ySNKvA/видео.html
I never had one. But i had the Tascam 234 4-Track. I also had The Tascam M-512 and M-520. Wish i never let them go.
I think we all regret selling our early gear. What I wouldn't give to have my first guitar back.
Can you tell me where you got that stand for it!? I need one

I like my Yamaha mt8x . I've had fostex and Tascam, but more bells and whistles on the Yamaha
I have a box packed tascam 246 used twice in india
Nice! :)
The MG614 is sexier.
A fine machine indeed! I hope I get a chance to get my hands on one some day :)
