I’m certain this sort of instructional series would be a giant help for the many new technic fans. I remember how hard it was to digest the technic system and it’s many possibilities when I started. I too thought the various names you guys use for the parts was really interesting. Thank you.
Very informative video, thanks for making it! It's quite interesting to hear how you call the different pieces, is it an internal LEGO Technic designer jargon? :)
Thank you! My skill in creating steering improved after watching this video, I learned what to do when creating steering, I would like to see a: "Lego technic moc's for dummies"
Thank you , I was trying to use the Lego motor 69730 for steering and almost succeeding, but your example at 5:30 provided the inspiration for me to achieve it, one of those almost obvious moments , but until you actually see it being done it isn’t obvious.Thank you for putting the time into making these.
I have build my first lego ideas project, it is a gold dredge that can all do like an real dredge and it is Minifigure scale. The name of the project is: Full working gold dredge with power functions". I am happy about every supporter.
Your 'For Dummies' series is really awesome! Through you I learn many things how something works. The quality of the videos are just great! Thank you for these awesome videos, keep up the great work!
First one is brilliant I have a lot of smaller cars and I mostly motorise the technic cars so this will be great for the LEGO city cars such as the dumpster truck and the fire trucks and such Good stuff 🙂
Fascinating video. A fundamental question for anyone who is interested. I have a reasonable collection of 'standard' Lego but very little Lego Technic parts. Where would you recommend sourcing Technic parts, what parts would you suggest buying to start building, and where can I find instructions suitable for a beginner builder (ie what part perform what function)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I would start with some mid-sized Technic sets. Parts list can be found at the back of the instructions online and just check a review or two to see if the functions are interesting to you.
Hi man. I've found this tutorial very useful, but I've a question for you. I'm building a Liebherr LTM 1250, and I want to implement the crab steering function. The problem is that while the crab steering is easy to make, I'm struggling with the normal turn steering, because I can't use both at the same time with the normal Lego techniques (like the last bigger technic crane does). Can you suggest me a way to make both? Thanks man. I hope for more tutorial like this. Well done!👍🏻👏🏻❤️
Hey i have made a steering with no rack it connects two beams with beams and pecs again then u adda beam with a gear and axle on one side and the other side a pec Edit:nevermind i was talking about the second one
Technic noob, what sort of software do you use to control your motors? I've found an app which can connect to my ev3 brick, but that can only control the motors in a tank-like configuration. In this setup, I'd imagine you'd need something more complicated/configurable
Hi grohl! In your opinion, how comfortable is the functional steering wheel? He asked why I'm thinking of buying the Lamborghini Sian but it only has functional steering wheel steering.
great video. There are typical implementations in real world which could be used as template. Wikipedia could help. ackermann is the best approach. On real cars you want 1-2 revolutions on the steering wheel to each side until you reach max steering angle. the mechanics/gears/linkage for connectimg a steering wheel to the ackermann beam is the most interesting. Sports cars user toothbars. Trucks, tractors an old limousines use worm gears and linkage
@@grohl666 The one time I needed it was for a camera vehicle; it would skid alternately on the left and right front wheels, which made for a very shaky video. Also, would you please not call me "master"? It's a bit embarrassing.
Are there any common parts that can be used to replace the gear rack? I haven't been able to get one, so at the moment im at a loss as to how to make steering.
Thanks man...I make a Pause with Lego Technik...the upcoming Sets are nothing for me...And the Bell...No questions abaout that... Desaster company...😬🤫
Best explanation of the Ackerman angle I´ve ever seen. Never thought it could be implemented in Lego that easy.
It literally takes almost no effort.

Yay thx

Thanks a bunch! Can you also do similar videos on suspension ang gearbox?
Yeas
Before the go-kart we had to build steering out of elements as well. Hell, in my days we had to put teethed rack on to a plate ;-)
I had the example Lego after third tutorial! If you do a gearbox and rear axle video, could you do a video on a full car?
Amazing video, will there be one about gearing ratios?
Definitely was not planned but a simple one about the basic principles can be done.

Glad to hear that. There are more episodes like this.
Thank u so much I have been struggling on making a Lego steering system for so long

Awesome! Thank you! Excellent explanation!!!
Hi! Where Can I buy a pack of Lego Technic? Thanks :D
Just get a lego Technic set.
Fantastic video ! It would be nice to see other topic explained to dummies (like cranes, gearboxes, outriggers, ecc) (sorry for bad english)

Is there an easy way to make a steering mechanism where the wheels are also powered ? If not could you a video on how you could make a complex system.
You can check the front axles of 42110 or 42129. If you need a smaller setup without suspension, let me know.
Thank you

Check instructions for 42054 that has three steering modes

Many of the Mocs I build have too much play in the wheels/hub, is this build(rack config) sturdy?
There is always a give in the system. It depends a lot on the way the wishbones, steering etc. are locked

Depends how much you want to play with it. The Sian is more a display model. But you can certainly try to build in the HOG steering.
Nice
The akughman steering is for 4wd?
Not only, it is used on all the cars to minimize the wear on the tyres and improve the driving capabilities.

Do you see the large angular motor as being a more efficient motor for steering than the m motor with a steering rack and gearing system?
M motor does not have return to center functionality.

Very informative video. Personally, I'm not a big fan of Ackermann in Lego scale, but I have to admit it turned out to be useful in maybe 2% of cases.
Thanks Master. Ackermann makes sense only on bigger models where you cannot have high turning angle. This afterwards helps a bit.

One is manageable but the real pain is two at once 🤣
In the 90s they made everything in big pieces
