    You have to be alert driver to drive a transfer truck not anyone can do it !!! Transfer trucks are used to haul materials at tight places when the 18 wheeler becomes a 10 wheeler …

    Has been used for decades in the united states, as well. In my area we pull two transfers. Called a triple transfer train.

    Ha ha you do get in and out a lot.. make a lot of inter-plant trips, (around 14) on a good day and you get our exercise. When you hook the truck back up, you flip a kill switch inside that cab that won't allow the truck to actually start. so it backs up in gear when you push a button, usually under the apron. The truck I used to drive ('05 pete) was VERY heavy and the payload was only about 24.5 tons with a full load of fuel. It had all the bells and whistles though.

    @Trkrchk Contd... Think too if you are paving. You have the added benefit of jumping in and out of the Dump bed to clean the rails, spray down, tarp if its less than 50 degrees out... You have to have good knees!!!

    In the time it takes to do this under normal circumstances you can be unloaded in less than 5 minutes. I could get it done in 3 if I had to rush.. And you can back them up if you know how.. it's not easy like backing up a 48 foot trailer, You have two pivot points and you can get in a bad spot fast if you dont know what you are doing.

      I drove transfers for four years mainly in the SFV back in the 90s and got pretty good at it. I remember just starting out ending up on a dead-end road and couldn’t back out. Had to have another driver come rescue me! Luckily, I got better! My favorite was taking it up on fire roads in the San Gabriel Mountains (yee haw!), least Favorite was going up into the Hollywood hills.

    A transfer can hold alot more than a pup. Then the time it takes to back up and position a pup. transfers are 20x easier.

    • @jbert87
      @jbert87 7 лет назад

      transamfan81 depends on the truck. I've driven truck and pup that can haul anywhere from 31 to 36 tons. and transfers anywhere from 28 to 37. also super solos from 23 to 26. all depends on truck weight

    Seems like a lot of trouble, why doesn't someone just build a side dump for the truck, and a side dump pup the truck can pull.

    • @thecatch4884
      @thecatch4884 6 лет назад

      Cunning Cat cause not every job is an easy access you need a ten wheel to reach some locations

  • @sambody8711
    @sambody8711 11 лет назад

    I don't get why they're running transfers. Normally they're used when you need the maneuverability of a dump truck but need to deliver a lot of material. There's plenty of room here to use end dumps or side dumps and they could haul more material that way.

    Painstakingly slow.
    You can make it so you don't have to get out of the cab:
    ruclips.net/video/X3-bPaZchYA/видео.html
    Even the last part of connecting the hose and cables with the VBG MFC.
    This one takes roughly 43 tons of material.

      @neckarsulme 4 года назад

      maybe, I have a loader out of Granite Const. that can load my transfer in about 90 seconds with 24 tons of material....and he doesn't have to mess with weight tags as I get them on the scales on the way out

  • @unkerdas663

    seems like a pain in the arse unless you can haul 40 ton

    • @neckarsulme
      @neckarsulme 4 года назад

      40 tons? that's what a fully loaded vehicle would legally weigh all together. Don't believe there is a non permitted truck capable of a 40 ton payload.
