  • We receive a delivery of clear crush rock from Jason Trucking's mammoth tridem truck and transfer. This truck even has a sleeper, which is unusual for a dump truck, at least where I'm from.

The truck looks real cool with that spolier! The extra trailer attached within the dump truck is so cool. I never new there were machines like that. The construction world has so many unique things.

Thats was feakin awesome!!!!! That's the first time I've ever seen a truck like that. It's incredable that the hydralic pump on the tractor has enough power to lift the
2nd dump body full of gravel. Amazing set up!!!!!!!

I've driven these trucks since 1993. My last truck was a T-800, 444 Cummins, 18 spd, 8 axle, at 75'. Heavy haul & over length permits, 105,500 lbs. , legal. 32 ton payload, 15,5 truck, 16.5 trailer. Rip-rap, jaw run? No problem. Kinda tricky backing the trailer around residential corners tho...

We have the exact same thing here. We call them pony trailers (some call them pups). We were using them on this site also. But this one is often used for making larger deliveries. This load was 42 tons, which is quite a bit more than most of the pony trucks around here carry. I just didn't bother to record the ponies dumping.

This type of transfer truck is very common here in the Greater Vancouver Area (GVA), the reason that it is not that common in other area is that in colder climates the material freezes on the guide rails of the truck box. Making it tough to transfer. As for the sleeper, this particular truck transfers contaminated dirt to disposal sites farther out of the GVA. Therefore a sleeper is required.

    I suppose that's what they call a "slam-bang", right?
It sure takes a big turning circle with 3 rear axles on ground, but he handles nice.
I also like that you have a guy stopping the traffic, and nobody use the horn against you. That's two things us danes need to learn...

25 tons is pretty good. I think the main idea here is that he can carry more weight in one trip, which saves time, and uses one less driver (wages) to get the same amount of material.
Different strokes for different folks, as the saying goes. I hope you'll post a vid of your modified truck.
You're right though, it does look like a bloody expensive rig.

I've dumped big stuff like that, and it's a lot easier on the truck when I stopped it just before the break-away and drop the box which would usually break it loose to slide, and then it would be a little more under control with the box on the way down.

42 tons is more than most OTR trucks/trailers weigh loaded! Tranfer trucks rule!

  • @mikemacleantrucking
    @mikemacleantrucking 11 лет назад

A tridem has the suspension of the 3 axles tied together so they each carry aprox. the same weight. A tri-axle could have independent air lift axles and are not necessarily balanced to carry the same load. Some jurisdictions allow more weight on a tridem, because you can't adjust your weight to overload any one axle. Hope that helps.

@kimchiman1000 In Finland we have corner shaped bottoms on the truck, and the trailer box is driven by a truck mounted hydraulic engine, that turns drive line on on trailer that pushes the trailer box onto the truck.
You just back up to trailer until it locks to truck and start hydraulic engine and the box comes on, it has small iron wheels on the bottom that eases rolling on to truck
In finland combination with that axle configuration is legal for total mass of 60 000Kg or abouth 133 000 Lbs

Defrost 74: opinions are easily swayed with ones geographic location, Volvo and Scania being your reference. I've operated Volvo, Mack, KW, Peterbilt, Ford, GM etc. highway truck hands down is a Peterbilt, with the KW on its heels. The Volvo was a decent truck but lagged a lot, too much searching for a gear on inclines but had a comfortable cabin. Some will disagree and that's fine, but the Mack is just a beast. If I had one truck I had to use forever, Mack is the answer. Driving a dump off road to sites a distance from paved streets, well, politely, Volvo ain't got it. Petes are decent at it, KW is just a better highway truck. The Fords and GMs aren't a star in any category except tough as hell. Durable, gobs of power for what they are, man, they got Fords I still see on the road today with over a million easy. They do very well in most categories, just don't top the list. I'm not assuming anything, I'm telling you that you've never been to work in a Mack, Pete or KW because your comment wouldn't be there.

Meatball or not, could do it faster and with no hassle what so ever. No connectind hydraulic hoses with automatic transfer box. You just have to leave Scania cab once when connecting tractor to the trailer and leaving the dumping place. Hoses and wires are disconnected from the cab. But if You wanna do it in a pre-historic way, it´s ok with me. Should try sometimes an European effective flat-nose. Scania or Volvo. I tried Your equipment, did not enjoy driving them.

This truck will haul almost double of what an end dump will haul, and do it in one trip, and with one driver. The truck in this video had a 42 ton payload. I've not seen an end dump with a load that big; if you put enough axles an end dump, and made it long enough to hold a 42 ton load of rock, the trailer would be too long to go into most of the job sites where this truck must go.
Please explain why you think an end dump ('tractor trailer') is more efficient, whereas a transfer is 'retarded'.
