    An absolutely brilliant story. They should be a plaque on the wall of the local police station in honour of PC Braithwaite so that the story of his bravery can live on.

      Problem now is, we don't have a police station in Haslingden now. It closes years ago and relocated. But I agreed there should be something more to honour these people, not just in Haslingden, but in every city, town and village.

      I'd heard of this story many years ago but it was difficult trying to find information on it. Luckily the Rossendale Freepress has an archive of many old newspapers and this story is in a couple of them. Also managed to find more using the British Newspaper Archive and especially on the police constable who managed to rescue the boys.

      Hi Anne. Thank you for commenting on this video. I had completely forgotten I was also born there until Vickie reminded me off camera 😀 The hospital was, as you say, a former workhouse owned or ran by the Board of Guardians and I think many children were once placed in there back in the late 1800s early 1900s. We were put off recording some segments as a couple of people kept stopping us and being interested in the story we were covering! It's surprising how many tales there are in our area that seem to have been forgotten about.

But wonderful that they were found. That guy PC Thomas Braithwaite definitely deserves the medals he got.

    Probably the same situation as Dean but without the hero. Harrowing thought.
    I was thinking an opening on the roof level would more likely be seen by a child too, because they'll be looking around in wonder where as searchers are instinctively searching the ground for signs of them

    The other missing Dean boys video was the first video I watched and when this one began I thought at first that I had heard this story before but as it went on I realised it was another group of boys. I must say, it did make me think that these old mines were a real magnet for young boys. It is a wonder many more didnt go missing. Scary just looking at that hole being a way in never mind all that followed. I bet they never went near there again.

    It's a very interesting story. I grew up in the 60s and it was quite a lark to run through the large storm water drains of Sydney, Australia, then as i got older, crawling through the numerouscave systems outside of sydney. I can imagine for these young lads to find themselves stuck as it were would be terrifying. I wonder if PC Braithwaite was one of the tunnelers in front line of the First World War. He must have been extraordinarily brave.

    • @DaysofHorror
      @DaysofHorror  Месяц назад +1

      It would have taken some guts to go into those mines to search for those lads. It does make you wonder if he possibly could have been a tunneler 🤔 Its a pity the old archives have very little information on him.

    The only thing I have trouble believing was the event you referred to that happened in the hospital in 1971, are you sure you got the year correct, would you take a lie detector test… I am sure Vicky will spill the beans on the real date…😀😀

    Interesting story, that fortunately had a happy ending. Regarding the Dean Boys it makes me also wonder if they had riggled through a small gap that the search parties had missed. As for the blood hound if the ground had been wet the dog wouldn't be able to pick up a scent. Having said that nobody will know if the dog had reacted to what might appear a dead end.

    • @DaysofHorror
      @DaysofHorror  Год назад +2

      I'm beginning to now think they are buried in that mine. I just can't see any other scenario. And as you say, they may have crawled through a space not seen by the search parties.

    • @DaysofHorror
      @DaysofHorror  2 месяца назад +1

      It also goes to show that even these miners still couldnt locate these boys, despite knowing the underground tunnels. The police officer just had that gut feeling there where inside. This brings me to the Dean boys disappearance and how miners may well have missed them when searching. The only difference being, dogs where also used in that case and even they couldnt locate them.

      It's something I'm trying to work on, the repeating. And if you have ever been walking around for up to 3 hours, filming, reshooting a scene, having to go back, you do often forget or just cannot remember saying something you may have already said earlier and it does end up being in the final cut. We aren't professionals and this is only a hobby of ours, uncovering these old fascinating stories and trying to bring them out to people. We dont mind constructive criticism, like yours, but some people have been down right nasty of late and its become tiring of late, trying to reply to them all.
