Definitely my favorite Sabbath album. I remember first hearing this in the late 70's and it blew me away. It was so different than what any other band was putting out, heavy and angery, definitely the birth of thrash.

Hey yall , Wow I was thinking about this a while back in my mind! Because this just seems like is what exactly happened! I am 50 years old! I am a drummer but in Jr and Senior school I was in ba band meaning I was considered a percussionist.. I was on the snare drumline. I feel like I was born at a almost perfect time for these absolute great era in music and especially metal !!. Think about this yall! Nobody will ever witness t this ever again.

One of my favorite Black Sabbath songs, that's for sure! I do believe there is a distinct line that can be drawn from Black Sabbath to Metal and all of its sub-genres then any other band. Many have mentioned Helter Skelter which is a real stretch. You can make a better case for The Kinks "You Really Got Me" (released in 1964) due to it being the first real chart topping song that featured a distorted guitar. It also could be said if not for Dave Davies frustration with his guitar tone which led him to taking a razor blade to his speaker cone then we may never have had the trigger that would spawn Hard Rock/Metal. Distorted guitar is the backbone of Metal, so who knows if not for that event how the music world would have evolved.
Needless to say how important of a discovery that would become to the world of music, specifically to Hard Rock/Metal and Punk. Many legendary artist point to that track as being the toughest thing they ever heard at the time. One must remember it was 1964 the Beatles were still playing Bubblegum pop music, this was well before Jimi Hendrix and The Who was just getting started. In fact that track was the track that inspired many musicians to want to learn and play guitar such as the Van Halen brothers and members of Black Sabbath. Ozzy has stated that it was the Beatles that inspired him by pointing him in the direction of being in a band but it was The Kinks that pushed him to action. Both Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler also have stated that they never knew it was possible to produce such a powerful and tough sound until they heard that track. So I think if Black Sabbath was the forefathers of Metal then The Kinks were their fathers seed.
As much as I love Tony Iommi and his ground breaking riffs and power chords we must not forget alot of the Heavy Sound that Black Sabbath produced is Geezer Butlers Baselines and Bill Wards drumming. And Geezer wrote most of the lyrics and a lot of the music. I would say it was a collective effort by all the members that should be credited.

Proto-thrash. Still too slow and groovy to actually be thrash. The overall style is more aligned with NWOBHM too.

Vin is not wrong, drawing a parallel between (or equating) Iommi with the inventor of basketball - any rock or metal band/artist you talk to, a vast majority will cite Black Sabbath (along with Led Zeppelin and The Beatles, but Sabbath is a YUGE one) as their inspiration.

As much as I'd like to agree with Vin"s opinion 'bout Tony, I think the Scorpions' lonesome crow is the cornerstone of innovative metal. However, Tony Iomi is indeed the creator of the genre. Cheers.

This is my favorite Sabbath song, however, I'm not a fan of the second half when it goes all folksey/bluesey, lol.
Perhaps if they returned to the original riff, I could have gotten used to it, but as it stands, I usually fade it out as it commences and call that edit a "Part 1", lol.
I'm sure no one agrees with me and thinks I'm crazy for not caring much for the second half. On the plus side, it's not very long, perhaps I could eventually warm up to it.

Sabotage is the M.J. of ROCK. Lebron could of never played in the M.J. era. Rules are too lax today. When Mike played you could not hand check, today basketball is like football. This album was a big fuck you to the Black Sabbath manager that robed them the first 5 years.

    1) You two are STILL Billboard's of Contrast.
    2) Nothing...not ONE SINGLE THING about 'Minecraft' is "Cool".
If you two are still on that Righteous side of the religious spectrum, you should/would understand this and lean AWAY from the verbal ads for a mind-numbingly OBVIOUS assault of our subconscious, such as 'Yada-CRAFT'.
    "Either they don't know...
    Don't show...
Or just don't CARE about what's goin' on in the 'Hood."
