Joe McCullough has been a critical part of the last ~8 years of my almost 40 years of hobbying. Keep on keepin' on Joe! (I got to live out some of my sci-fi police procedural fantasies in miniature in Stargrave last year with a Robocop influenced crew. I had wanted to do that since 1987).
@PeachyTips I'm still watching the video, and was delighted to see Copplestone sculpts getting a shout out. The regular plods in the cop crew were all lovely Copplestone sculpts. Stargrave is a great way to get all of those lovely-but-gameless figures on the table.
I really enjoy Stargrave, the dice are swingy indeed, and close combat is a lot more lethal than ranged combat because how you often get stuck in. We played through some "random games" and then through the Quarantine 37 mini-campaigns and we had a ton of fun. Even though some of the scenarios say they don't work great with three players they do, maybe not if you are playing in a tournament for $5000, but if you want to have fun they do. :D We added a few house rules as we played, like you could not shoot at the "back line " without a Will roll, you had to fight in close combat so you just could not send some garbage against a captain, have him not fight on your turn just to make sure he is tied up longer, things like that. We had some more things, adding things to the story, giving the troops some progression if they survived 4 games, also making sure as many zombies as possibly spawned. In some scenarios we just ran right by each other, hordes of zombies swarming in from all around, it was a great experience. My Captain was a biomorph, but for more he was more of a Predator than a regular human and my First Mate was a force user, a Sister of Battle with laser sword named Ashoka Tano. Not Star Wars related, Tano is a last name you find in northern Sweden who had many duels with the Siths of one of the other players. I used two eldar models to make a trophy hunter and two gun fighter and Stargrave miniatures for the rest. Those North Star minis is a beginner kitbashes dream, space gnoll, bearded guy with rusty axe and laser pistol. This game is pure joy, and with interesting terrain in layers it becomes even more fun.
Cheers Peachy, I never realised that stargrave was so diverse. I really struggle with complex rules such as 40K so I’m so glad that you make these videos.
Stargrave is another excellent system like his other games. Being a collector over decades of random Sci-Fi figs from many companies, they have found a home... In a galaxy far down under. Love your crews I recognize too ... Cheers fellow fan boy LOL 😄😃
Joe breathes new life into gaming and makes it fun and the miniatures are excellent and agree they can be mixed and matched with Frostgrave sets to create even more variation. 10 out 10 from me
Wonderful. I love these crews. For a simple indie skirmish game that has a surprising variety for warband building maybe try Space Weirdos/Sword Weirdos
The X-Grave games are some of the best, most open gaming experiences Ive ever had. Can they be swingy? Yes, just loke any d20 games. Can you build a brokenly good list? Yes, so you need to discuss a social contract with your beardy friends. Other than those two things the only issue is learning to play games that set you free. Freedom can be daunting for many folks.
Great video on a great game. I love the story building you get with Stargrave, not just in the crews but also in the game scenarios. They are so easily tailored, and adding in scenario specific rules is really easy to do. Also, those Stargrave and Frostgrave boxes are indeed brilliant.
If you like the 'grave' games you'll love the 'Rampant' games. Dragon Rampant for fantasy and Lion and Xenos. We use Xenos Rampant to pit my kids Space Marines against my Blood Pact Army. I have used the various 'grave' plastic kits to convert my Blood Pact troopers.
Great ! What I M looking for are miniatures that are at one end Star Wars troopers and militia poorly armed and armoured. Also something in the middle, body armour, helmets with breathing apparatus and weapons to match.
A great vid. I’m an ex-Warhammerer and love StarGrave these days. It can be brutal and unforgiving😅but it’s great fun. I don’t mind the simple weapons list and it means that when you do manage to bag some loot and get a special weapon, it’s a real treasure. The options for captains and first mates are great. You can put together pretty much whatever you can imagine, and the powers can be made to fit (my cyborg captain uses ‘burrowing’ to phase through terrain, like MCU Ghost). And the expansion books add some great adventures and characters. Great vid and excellent examples of just how versatile Stargrave is. Played a Coop campaign with 2 mates over a year. The game gets you doing all sorts of stuff like making new terrain, using minis that have been lost to time and having the novelty of play with rather then against friends. Can’t recommend enough.
Couldn't agree more! I think it’s reinvigorating old hobby skulls like scratch building and playing fun games with whatever you have at hand, rather than getting hung up about having the correct miniatures from a very limited range etc. love it

Used to be into 40k since 3rd. Haven't played for years. By pure chance I had a handful of Frostgrave games and absolutely loved it. Then I learnt about Stargrave...and looked at my unused, for years, 40k minis. Marriage made in heaven. About to start a 3-4 player long campaign this autumn-winter-spring
Thanks for this one, chum. I've seen lots of great primers on Frostgrave but there haven't been a lot for Stargrave and I've got some space dwarves I want to raid some ships and stations with. Excellent work!

Hopefully chat again soon (just we need to play some war on terra).
Defiantly more Stargrave and Frostgrave content to come, though this coming month will be very much a bone Joe related month lol, so much other stuff to cover
Yes! Both StarGrave and FrostGrave are awesome imho because they focus on basic fun. I’m back to actually making my own terrain and kitbashing a lot more because of it, like you know, I used to? It somehow woke up this inner child in me and the fun I used to have when fomo was less of a thing.
Frostgrave and Stargrave having similar rulesets is brilliant. means you can jump between games without needing to do a refresher on the rules. Another benefit of the Grave games, you aren't locked into a particular range of miniatures. Which is great if you live in a country that pays a 'distance' tax for their 'workshop' gaming supplies. 😁 You want to use kit bashed Nepoleonics? Go for it. Your crew of soldiers are WW2 era commandos? Nothing is stopping you. Cyberpunk street gang? Stargrave has you covered. Sidenote: Looking forward to the V battle report. The "Hope Eternal" solo campaign is a lot of fun. Definitely do a "V" batrep. I can remember seeing that miniseries when it came out as a teenager; I was righteously angry at their perfidy.
I always loved the games frostgrave and stargrave in passing, Maybe my idea of a seedship of convicts/penal class people from a long destroyed terran colony planet. The decendents of the ships security, adminitstators and wardens being the "upper class" and nobility of the ship while the decendants of the criminals are the expendable lower class that are utilised for whatever the nobility needs.

It is a really great system and I love these miniature agnostic rulesets. I appreciated the overview of your potential crews.. however, I would looooooooooobe seeing your ideas for the various enemies/encounters too. That's where the real fun for me is😊
Our club now plays Bolter-Action 40K....9th edition codexes , bolt action dice for activation. each unit takes one move and a shoot or fight. no CP /no strats/ no warlord traits/ no relics. Its fun.
I love stargrave! I have three teams (but no one to play with) My first team is made of rebels from star wars legion. I plan to repaint them and add some droids and even a jedi. I have my Space-Judges, made from the enforcers from necromunda, with heads and eagle shoulder pads from puppetswar. And my work in progress is made with the victorian guard from Victoria Miniatures.
These sound bloody awesome, well you have at least two crews, so hopefully you can try and persuade someone to try it with your stuff….once you’ve jumped that hurdle spreading the love gets easier
Great video, I did jump into the deep end with Stargrave when I watched your Frostgrave video, and I'm excited to build up some crews and hopefully find some peeps to play with.
Honestly it's the D20 system that kept me from trying this game but if it can be converted over to 2D10 simply and effectively I would definitely be interested. Thanks for sharing!
I've not bought Stargrave yet but I did buy the rules and a bunch of minis for Rogue Stars. A lot of those would be perfect for Stargrave. They even have not-Jedi minis.
Excellent video, sir. Thanks for doing your part for the hobby. Also, while the 'Grave games are great, should you or anyone prefer a more narrative and procedural skirmish game experience in a similar vein, I must recommend the Five-From games. "Five Parsecs from Home" and "Five Leagues from the Borderlands". Cheers.
Thanks for the excellent video. 5 Parsecs from Home is worth a look for solo and co-op games. Also good for a painting and kitbashing challenge due to the randomly generated aspects of the game. Wargames Atlantic kits are also good and can be kitbashed to a certain extent with the Northstar kits. Their Deathfield kits are mainly sci fi, but some of their other kits have sci fi options like the Landsknecht Ogres and the Giant Spiders. I hope there will be a V baby glove puppet making an appearance for the battle report.
Forgot to mention Heresy Miniatures. Andy has some interesting figures, but sometimes needs a reminder if your order hasn't been sent after a few weeks.
That’s incredibly kind of you to say, I can’t possibly take that compliment though, the pics in the book are great, mine are just different in style is all. 👍 And excellent news trying to get you mad to play too, I hope he enjoys playing it with you 😍
I really like Stargrave. Space Weirdos, Space Station Zero, and Planet 28 are fun alternatives that can use the same crews. If you can gather some crews together up to about platoon strength, Xenos Rampant is great too.
I got massively hyped when I saw all the Hasslefree Miniatures in this video, as I used to be one of their main painters... Big grin on my face, which then turned to a frown of sadness when my name wasn't on the video 😢
Thank you very much for this video. I find myself in a lot of what you said. I love narrative, writing stories with my games and I am increasingly turning away from competitive / games with confrontations for cooperative. Stargrave is part of the list of games that I want to try (and make my entire set of Battles systems scenery profitable ;) ) even if I would prefer that the SF version of Rangers of Shadow Deep comes out. For the beginning I will already focus on Space Station 0 and its campaign which makes me want to play
Now that’s a smart approach to kitbashing and hobbying in general, I’m going to take a leaf out of your book on this one, for Stargrave and frostgrave 😍👍
Im still building my own Stargrave crews and extras. Using Fatewinders, Timewalkers, Mystics, and Psionicists primarily. But I always take the Aristocrats Investments. Major fan of the free Brawlers. (Recruits with only melee weapons.)
Will there be more G.I. Joe models coming? 5 Parsecs from Home is another great miniature agnostic Sci-fi skirmish. Aimed at solo campaign play, worth checking out since you already have such a wide variety of different crews / enemies to use.
Great video as usual, love your enthusiasm. I bought into 5 leagues / 5 parsecs recently, mainly due to the more structured narrative elements baked in, but it was a close call between that and frostgrave/stargrave.
Thanks for pushing the joy of this game. More people to play the better. Totally have the Firefly crew from Brigands & Browncoats game.

Our club now plays Bolter-Action 40K....9th edition codexes , bolt action dice for activation. each unit takes one move and a shoot or fight. no CP /no strats/ no warlord traits/ no relics. Its fun.
That’s a super smart and cool idea, love this
I've been craving these 😍
I need to make a crew/warband that works for both stargrave and frostgrave, all with the head of Victor Meldrew n call them "One Foot In The Grave"
Hahaha! This is the best idea I’ve heard lol
Would love to hear your thoughts on Five Parsecs From Home as well.
Yeah I still need to grab that and Five Leagues
You *really* do! @@PeachyTips
@@Psychichazard😂👍
Mega video as always
Love the coverage on smaller press games!
Love the V troopers! Grew up watching V with my parents.
Great video, thanks Mr Peachy. Would be very interested to see a game played.
It’s definitely on my list, and may be used a lot for some sci fi themed batreps
Played my first game last weekend. Awesome game!
Right on Peachy, good show. Great content as always
I love stargrave! I have three teams (but no one to play with)
My first team is made of rebels from star wars legion. I plan to repaint them and add some droids and even a jedi. I have my Space-Judges, made from the enforcers from necromunda, with heads and eagle shoulder pads from puppetswar. And my work in progress is made with the victorian guard from Victoria Miniatures.
That sounds very cool! Have you considered playing any remote games? Not the same as playing in person but better than nothing
These sound bloody awesome, well you have at least two crews, so hopefully you can try and persuade someone to try it with your stuff….once you’ve jumped that hurdle spreading the love gets easier
@normtrooper4392 I wish, but at the moment my only internet connection is my phone. Hopefully I can get set up after I move
@@otterblau5253 sad to hear it but you have some great ideas for those warbands. So hopefully you can play
You can always play SG: Dead Or Alive, and Hope Eternal solo. They’re fun👍
Nice group of crews.
I want a battle report please! I love the Silver Bayonet one!
It’s certainly on the cards, I have plans for frostgrave, stargrave, middle earth, Necromunda etc etc
I've not bought Stargrave yet but I did buy the rules and a bunch of minis for Rogue Stars. A lot of those would be perfect for Stargrave. They even have not-Jedi minis.
Nice! I love the cross compatibility of these ranges I’m exploring….and who doesn’t love having some ‘not’ Jedi lol
Cheers.
Cheers 🙌 I’ve heard so many good things about the 5 leagues and 5 parsecs games I’ll be looking into them soon 👍👍👍
@@PeachyTips , brilliant. Five Leagues has become my defacto pastime as a solo gamer with a mountain of plastic.
Galactic Heroes is a miniatures agnostic game sci fi skirmish game that works for a distant galaxy far away to the grim dark future.
Yeah I’ve ordered stuff from Andy before, great figures tbh, just not looked in awhile
😂😂😂 V baby glove puppet 🤦♂️🤣 I mean I can try lol.
And your spot on so many great companies to help kitbash those crews and warbands.
Nostalgic 💯 my crews are more space cowboy.
The Zombicide Invader KS characters box has some great options for Stargrave crews. Another inspiring Peachy video 👌
Oooh! I missed that, gonna go check that out right now, thanks for the suggestion 👍
This game sounds great peachy!
For a game to look at in future, I suggest Majestic 13! For some X-Files/X-Com fun!
Your pictures are actually better than the ones in the book ! Great work peachy… I’m going to try and play this with my boy
That’s incredibly kind of you to say, I can’t possibly take that compliment though, the pics in the book are great, mine are just different in style is all. 👍
And excellent news trying to get you mad to play too, I hope he enjoys playing it with you 😍
I really like Stargrave. Space Weirdos, Space Station Zero, and Planet 28 are fun alternatives that can use the same crews. If you can gather some crews together up to about platoon strength, Xenos Rampant is great too.
Those V minis are so cool. Please do more with that 😊
I got massively hyped when I saw all the Hasslefree Miniatures in this video, as I used to be one of their main painters... Big grin on my face, which then turned to a frown of sadness when my name wasn't on the video 😢
Love this game…not for the actual game but because it provides such a blank canvas…just joined the discord!
Oooh fantastic! Lots to see and do on there, and when I’m busy editing I do pop by from time to time lol
Burrows and badgers!! You should absolutly cover burrows and badgers
Brilliant!!! And even better if it gets you using that awesome battle systems scenery 👍
Love the idea of a guard-swan, Mr. Peach!
Hahaha! Oddly my mind went to you 😂😂😂
stargrave is 100% my comfort game. almost every model i kitbash is intended to be game legal for stargrave
Now that’s a smart approach to kitbashing and hobbying in general, I’m going to take a leaf out of your book on this one, for Stargrave and frostgrave 😍👍
@@PeachyTips It's also great for consistencies sake. No matter what monstrosity I create, at least I know I can at least use it in one game hahah
Im still building my own Stargrave crews and extras. Using Fatewinders, Timewalkers, Mystics, and Psionicists primarily. But I always take the Aristocrats Investments.
Major fan of the free Brawlers. (Recruits with only melee weapons.)
It's so impressive how you can pump out these different 'warbands' - awesome stuff :D
🥰👍 I just love painting random stuff lol
Looking forward to trying it out though I already found mine with Necromunda.
Also a great shout 👍
excellent video as always!
Helldiv- sorry, Helljumpers Vs Space Gnolls battle report please!
Really need to have a go at stargrave one of these days. Played lots frosty and I have the rule book sitting on the shelf 😆 any month now 😬
Will there be more G.I.
Peachy my man .. Zoe and Mal 😊🙌🏻 please you have to build a Jane the hero of canton
