- Best lion king for the NES to bad it was unlicenced. There is an official NES version of THE LION KING but i think its a joke compared to this one yes a pirate beating an official just wow.
This pirate is based on the 16bit SNES and SEGA mega drive version, but it has some levels missing from it,Never the less i like this game its a lot more fun than the official one

These NES renditions of the game's music are actually pretty good
When a pirate game is better than the official game.
When I was a little boy, I played this game lots of times. What a good game, never know it was unlicenced
the music on this game was a masterpiece...
The PIRATE looks a lot better than the official version! What the heck?
Back in the days the dev teams weren't so big.
As far as I know,
there was only one person rewriting the whole game (based on a unique "formula" across the platforms")
for each platform.
And you had to redo the complete game (except for the graphics, but even there you had to be careful),
because you couldn't use some high level language such as C on the SNES or Genesis back then (maybe the PC version was written in C and the logic was then ported to the respective ASM).
So it all came down to a very few people to try to deliver the nearly same game, by using completely different hardware.
Therefor I'm not too surprised one person was better at the same job than another person.
Especially not if that person made the game, because he thought the original sucked and that he could do it better. (I couldn't explain otherwise why a "pirate" would rewrite a complete game instead of simply copying it)
Coz it's a snes pirate. The official nes version is much older than this.

I beaten this back then, and it was alright. Aladdin pirate version was also very good. But there was a time, when Mega Drive/Genesis games started to show up more, and MK3 blew our minds... one of the first games that I played was Eternal Champions. For that period it was alright, but time goes on and personally for me, 8bit Nintendo games are more fun. I am not talking about Lion King, cuz this game on Genesis or SNES was way more beautiful, but there was only few games like this. Sure Mortal Kombat, and Strike series was amazing, Dune 2, Flashback (that I beaten) and some more, but Ninja Ryukenden 3, Battletoads And Double Dragon, TMNT 1,2,3 and Tournament Fighters, Captain Tsubasa Super Striker 2, Tokkyuu Shirei Solbrain, Mitsume Ga Tooru, Contra Force, Batman and Batman Returns, New Ghostbusters 2, T2, Gremlins 2, Adventure Island, Cattou Ninden Teyandee, Chip'n Dale Rescue Rangers 2, Darkwing Duck, Duck Tales 2, Eliminator Boat Duel, Kick Master, Monster In My Pocket, Prince Of Persia, Summer Carnival 92 Recca, Super Spy Hunter, The Little Mermaid, Tiny Toon Adventures, have special place in my heart. :D 16bit generation had some cool games, but 8bit NES/FAMICOM had it more!!! And it runs well, and pixelart looks beautiful for most of the games.

I played a lot of bootleg games and this was one of them. I think you made this game look quite easy. I still remember the 3rd level and how those jumps and algae slides tested my patience. Back then, at least to me and my lost friends, It was a funny to see when the grown-up Simba jumps on a Hyena and ricochets :D .
Heh, true the 3rd level also had a weird death bug, when you jump up from those logs in the waterfal spot, jump up to fast and the screen kills ya, weird but i still kinda like this bootleg.
O M G... that waterfall in Hakuna Matata... I've just remembered myself all the hours I had spent trying to pass that part! :O

When I was a kid, I seriously thought this was an official TLK video game.
After comparing it to real one, I still think so. Choppy Game Boy port don't deserve to be an official video game.

So cool we had in Russia! The license was nothing! Were some pirate games and consoles! We brought in the shops as well as American and Japanese versions of games and game production! And even now still produce hookups Dendy in Russia and also is not legally
These were popular overseas for anyone wondering why anyone would go through the trouble of making such a quality unofficial game

The *one* time where the bootleggers probably made more money and happiness than the official programmers..

The Toontastic Toon It's not the first time a pirate port is better than the official port, check out Hummer Team's and Super Game's pirate ports of Aladdin, wich both are better than the official one.
Lion King and Aladin were made in the 90s, when there was a Super Nintendo and Genesis. Famiclones were a popular alternative to the early 90s gen consoles in many regions like Eastern Europe, South America or China, well to be honest it wasnt easy to own a Super Nintendo in my country, you had to import one by yourself, while you could buy much cheaper 8 bit system at most markets. Thats why there were so many 90s unlicensed games for Family Computer, in which some of them were ports pushing the console to its limits - check FF7, imho the biggest NES hardware pusher, then good homebrew games, finishing with reskins and bad homebrew stuff. Like mentioned FF7, Aladdin (actually there were a few Aladin games, the official one is a Gameboy port, Hummer Team did a SNES port, there was also a Genesis port, and a homebrew weird version, not to mention Aladdin III) there were also ports of Chrono Trigger, SMW, a great version of DK, and some attempts to port fighting games like Tekken or Street Fighter.
"Necessity is the mother of invention" should be the main thought of all those unlicensed games. Im really happy that NES Maker would be released by some time, since Im planning to create a very simplified Mario Kart for NES.

You know a game is bad when even the unlicensed version is better than the original ones.
Even beeing this version betterthan oficial one, it makes me confirm that the biggest jump between console generations was from tird for fourth.
It's astounding how this pirated game is much better than the official release.

And in Russia, was the most genuine, licensed game for consoles Dendy better known as clone Famicom
i love the dendy when NES had to put in 1 game at the time the dendy has great games 4 in 1 just reset and choose game easier and faster the only thing that dendy lacked was that most games where in Japanese language like ninja Gaiden trilogy but then again in dendy you have the START and UP cheats and the Japanese exclusives that the NES didn´t have like Kuni kun games :) anyway the Dendy kicks ass and i use it regulary to play with friends :)

Well, if you play as hunting pirate king lion is better to buy a Famicom because a Dendy might be a problem with the landscaping of the screen just at the games company super game! But there is a little trick of connectedness with those that have the original cartridges from super game and there are pirated the difference between them is the fact that the game has a super bonus level and have not pirated
Виталик Незлобин i just got an black dendy called SUBOR the lion king plays well on that system the only flaw it may have is that the 2 controller has no START and SELECT button (can´t play battletoads with 2 players lol ) and the controllers are wired into the system (if they broke im fucked :D ) but overall it looks cool and plays well so far
you can get some nes clone from romania for a low price.has 2 controllers (detachable).It is called terminator or ending man

Last level music... The best game soundtrack ever :D I used to "dance" while playing, I mean jumping and slashes :D Awesome!

There was an official version by Dark Technologies, but let me tell you, it ain't worth looking out for it. It REALLY sucks!

без преувеличения - самая сложная игра моего детства. понятия не имел, что это пиратка. уровень с обезьянами и страусами это ночной кошмар. вонючий страус никак не хотел прыгать вовремя. то что игру можно пройти за 8 минут - вообще шок. в общем, я подавлен.

@redfox555 1 of all this is for the NES nobody is talking about the SNES here not and in the original NES yes you had an ape boss on the hakuna matata level but that was it after you defeated him the game ended in the original NES there was no scar boss only his face if you had game over

It looks better than the official version, but it's got lots of very serious flaws, where it could be argued that the official version plays better.
The official version has worse controls & you don't even get to play as Adult Simba.
I wouldn't suggest playing either game... the best de-make of the lion king is the Sega Master System version@@ExtremeWreck

wow , so for years i played a pirated version on a console. i wondered why this and alladin were on the nes when i only saw info about the snes versions. third world country problems i suppose.
There were official versions of Aladdin and The Lion King on NES but they were terrible compared to this. So feel lucky you got to play these versions :P
I am surprised that an unlicensed pirated game is superior than the official NES game in Europe. I wonder if both versions got switched and the pirated version became the official version and vise versa.

And what happens to the boss, on the Hakuna Matata's level? There is a boss there. Or, there was.... The Lion king for SNES was better than the Lion King for PS1...x-x
