Love the detailed explanation from Rick about his kit and how he plays!! I have been looking for this type of in-depth technical discussion from him forever, this must be the only time he's really talked about the gear and his technique!
Also, watching Phil in 87 here, he seems different from anything since then. Must be alcohol, which he quit a year or so later? Such a great insight into the time, thanks for sharing this rare gem!

That was cool seeing how Rick's drum kit works and I was always curious about how he did drum rolls, so that was neat seeing that, as well. They were all so young and this was before 'Hysteria' really blew up, not knowing what was yet to come. We miss you, Steve Clark!

Neat to see them playing like that. Neat to hear and see about the drums and how Rick uses them. Would have liked to see more of Steve playing - Phil too. Thanks !

This is brilliant isn't it, where do you find these clips from?! I love the unpolished-ness, the slightly awkward interviews; a super 80s throwback!

Hey, Joe, just listen to Hetfield's voice over the years. You both got better as you got older, like fine wine

I'd argue this is the ONLY example of "The Riffmaster" playing in a studio. The brutally heavy sound coming from his Firebird is insane, Collen's Jackson 'Dinky' called "crackle" can hardly be heard. Lovers of this genius who for the umpteenth time I say was the 'lyrical+harmony+melody+hooks and riffing genius of this band should savour this clip.
Steve loved his FB's, as he said once verbatim "they give a dirty but heavy sound". His bright red FB with 3 humbuckers in gold is one of the most beautiful guitars he had in his rig and ever seen - but for me 'the' most truly magnificent guitar 'Steamin' owned was his white Les Paul Custom, triple humbuckers with Kahler tremolo. WHY Gibson does a run for a complete poseur like Saul Hudson and Tommee Thayer, Billy Morrison etc and they never did one for Steve is as illogical as it is a reflection on the deep dysfunction at the Gibson Board level.
Seriously Tommee Thayer? Trying to imitate a genuine icon who influenced God knows how many millions of kids to pick up a guitar - Ace Frehley?
'Dime' had Ace inked on his chest - that is serious respect. Thayer? Within the industry he is a joke.
Some of the 'rarest' interviews with Steve crime from the bands Japan tour - they came to Australia only gfgor promotional work for 'Hysteria'. That they never played live in Australia defies logic - and whoever made that decision from their management should have been sacked. They robbed us of seeing this genius live.
Apart from the early French and Gewrmasn gigs, Download which is on video but is SO far away it's hard to make the band out - arguably this bands ultimate gig was in Denver Colorado - here Steve was not only on fire, he was arguably at his peak, and 'his peak' was like climbing the Himalaya's.
