Steve Clark has never received enough credit for the incredible body of work that he created. Don't get me wrong because Phil Collen was and is a legendary lead guitarist. But Steve was the musical genius of DefLep, he was the man behind most of those signature riffs that separated the band from its contemporaries.

He was soft spoken and unassuming but a genius ,he was so talented , lacked self confidence .Dont know why, he had everything going for him. He made that band with his writing and musical riffs and talent. Gone way too soon, missed forever.RIP, missed with love and affection.

EXACTLY, Will Ritter, I TOOK GUITAR LESSONS, BECAUSE OF STEVE CLARK FROM 1986 THRU THE 1990'S, ( SEE ABOVE )... :) But also and MOST IMPOTANTLY, I SING, AND PLAY, SOME OF THEIR SONG'S SINCE 1978, :)

Phil nunca foi o guitarrista principal enquanto Steve estava vivo. Alias depois que ele faleceu, a banda decaiu muito, saindo do hard rock que encantou a todos nos anos 80 pra uma mistura de pop com nao sei o que. 😠

This video was recorded sometime after Joe Elliott's 22nd birthday on August 1, 1981, but before Rick Allen's 18th birthday on November 1, 1981. Joe Elliot mentions the band members ages during the interview, his being 22, but saying the Drummer Rick Allen was 17. So sometime between August 1, 1981 and October 31, 1981, in the United States.

      @helenwalker5704 2 года назад +3

@@Cykoid yeah, addiction is insidious and alcohol is so bad, for it's everywhere accessible, and used in most social situations.
Anyway, even back in the 80's 90's there had to be some supportive professional addiction specialists? Either rehab facilities or out patient care.
Saw DL when Steve Clark was with us multiple times, had an awesome time. One concert I was at in the 80's, was out doors at Compton Terrace in Arizona. They were brilliant!! 🙂

I wonder how much of the band's drinking was due to their success at such a young age.
I saw them for the 1st time at the Oakland Auditorium in 1981 opening up for Blackfoot. During Rocks-Off, Pete Willis was leaning out into the crowd and a fan grab his guitar off of him.
Steve Clark had to play both rhythm and lead until Pete finally got his guitar back from Security.
After the concert, I got the chance to join the band back at their motel where there was lots of beer drinking and pizza. And someone managed to find the Benny Hill Show on TV.
I don't think anyone knew how successful they would later become except maybe Joe Elliot and Mutt Lange.

His eyes look fine. Pffft... He was a dedicated closet alcoholic - never drank in public ( to the point of intoxication) and that comes from every member of the band. They all say, especially speaking on the subject, he was a complete professional on tour and in the studio. It's when the band had solo down time apart, that he would go on serious, ultimately deadly benders.

karen glenn....I can only speak for myself but sure since this genius passed and the band has really, with the odd good song aside, they've toured off the back catalogue this genius left them.
What REALLY makes me white hot with rage is both Sav and Joe have been truly factual, and honest about the incalculable input from Steve.
Steve was 'the' primary songwriter, period. Sure, on many tracks up to "Adrenalize" several band members are co writers, BUT Steve was the actual member who penned the overwhelming majority of the songs that would see 'Pyro' sell 25 million records plus, and 'Hysteria' 25 million plus also. Leppard, t6hanks to Steve3's massive input are with Van Halen the only bands in this genre to have x2 records be certified Diamond twice by the RIACC..
Elliot's speech at the RRHOF induction regarding 'Steamins' input arguably is the most specific and honest he's ever been. He has said in interviews "Steve's input was enormous", so one has to be objective, facts and evidence.
But Sav in multipole interviews has never to my knowledge, ears, footage been honest. Elliot has always been the 'driver', like Sixx in Crue, both are really the engine that propelled their respective bands onwards, with enormous help from 'Mutt' especially after the start. Interestingly, Joe's leadership of the band was not really relevant when the band started to actually tour, in support of AC/DC which 'Mutt' had worked with, and this ticket slot gave Leppard a massive start.
But it was Steve who threatened twice to quit the band and he told them "I don't want to be in this fucking spoon factory still rehearsing". That demand saw Leppard for the first time start to push for gigs that'd help put them in the frame for success and longevity.
Steve's influence, input, if one is again objective can also be assessed since he tragically passed away by the fact Leppard's career has never hit the heights that it did when Steve was writing, and also critically, his enormous, you cannot quantify the impact Steve had in creating so many of the songs. His ability to create harmonies, melodies, riffs, hooks and bends was staggering.
Even the great Viv is both humble as always and honest about this, he said last year verbatim and I'm sure both Joe/Sav would not have been happy to hear this, but Viv said "90% of what we play Steve left us". And he also added, due to the enormously complex way Steve created the songs, his writing of the music [he was a classically trained guitarist], and Viv will often say today "I still can't play GoW".
Steve was just unique. Extremely gifted. I've written several times my opinion is Steve's abilities and just staggering skill sets lyrically and musically, let alone oozing rock star cool strapped low, his deft use later on of his Kahler on his magnificent Gibsons now gone, as the set list changed when Viv reverted from his Charvels to a LP, Collen now has taken over significant parts that Steve made magic with with his Floyd Rose touch, always a massive part of Collen's playing.
The real sadness is in his loss before he had a chance to see what the computer chip would do in terms of technology. Phil was asked "what do you think Steve would be doing today, his musical interests"? Collen answered "Steve probably I think would've ended up in the film, movie business as he always liked that area, creating music for feature films". Tragically we'll never know.

@@williambroadstreet3353 I have to disagree with you about Elliott. As the years have passed, he has made Steve's contribution smaller and smaller with his comments. he has made remarks about Steve being a lost cause, and that having the hotel room next to Viv on tour, at least they knew that Viv would wake up the next day. Sav on the other hand, has taught his son Tyler all about Steve. Tyler is in a band called the Crossfire Eagles and has stated this his main influence is Steve. He was born after Steve died, so that has come from his dad, and at the RRHOF it was Sav who blew a kiss to the sky at the mention of his name. But I agree with you completely on everything else. Steve was the magic of that band which is why they're still touring off their old stuff.

Adrenalize was a so-so record and Slang was straight-up terrible. And this following Hysteria, which gets a non-neglible percentage of votes as the greatest hard rock album ever recorded... it tells you pretty much everything you need to know about who wrote the music in that band. Joe Elliott is a tremendous frontman with an inimitable voice, but his weakness as a lyricist was really exposed once he was no longer getting those genius riffs from Steamin Steve.

VERY RARE. Thank God it's on video, sadly there's not a lot with this genius being interviewed especially in this context. This was before his girlfriend convinced "The Riffmaster" to grow out his locks. An excellent interview, love it when the chain smoking Steve bots a smoke off someone in the room. Hilarious.

Love The riff myster. Great upload. Need more of Steve. Looks like about midway through. Steve asks for a smoke gets up walks away for a few comes back . Sits down and rubs his nose a little bit and snorts. Like, He, Do I have White powder on my nose. I mean they are with OZZY here. And Randy was right in front of them. It don't matter we were all doing it at the same

Great band. I saw them twice in 1980. In Houston they opened up for Judas Priest (my ears rang for 2 days), and also with Ted Nugent. Def Leppard and Scorpions were opening acts!
