Their loyalty to Rick Allen always impressed me. At the height of their career, they would have been better off financially and structurally if they just cut him loose and got a new drummer. But they refused to do so. Loyalty is a loss treat. That’s why I respect these guys.
Same here. That's why they will always be one of my favorite bands.
True friends. They waited on Rick to recover, then changed the music somewhat to conform to his newer drumming style. They and us fans were rewarded handsomely with so many hit songs.
Agree 100%
Contracts buy loyalty, keeping them earns honor. W/e the reason, glad Rick had such support and became the first to inspire the entire world overcoming impossible obstacles and proving it can be done, redefining reality as it was known then.
Agreed, and it’s why they are so revered and respected in the industry- they didn’t give up on him, didn’t let him give up on himself- and became a true family as much as a band. Exactly why they are rock legends. I’ve seen them five times live- and will see them every time I have a chance.
This has to be one of the best acceptance speech in the history of Rock
Completely agree.puré gold
I haven't watched many of these RRHOF speeches unless it was someone I really liked like DL. Yes this is a great speech from an appreciative point of view, if you like a comedic speech look up Rick Wakeman of Yes's speech, pretty hilarious and irreverent.
Actually, this was the best acceptance speech. Alex Lifeson of RUSH. ruclips.net/video/8hR02pDj-Ic/видео.html
D!!
Absolutely agreed!
"If alcoholism, car-crashes, and cancer couldn't kill us, the 90s had no f*cking chance."
Well said, Joe.
I guess the "woke" R&R Hall of Fame deleted my comment. TLDR - Soulless corporate rock. "She's My Cherry Pie".
@@bry2k not sure what Cherry Pie has to do with Def Leppard but ok🙄
@@bry2k Name a famous music act that ISN’T “corporate”?
Pretty sure alcoholism killed one of them
@@bry2k still curious, what does the song Cherry Pie have to do with Def Leppard? I Don’t see the connection.
Def Leppard Hysteria, the most perfectly produced album of all time. Every track an absolute gem.
Way to commercial.Pyromania was their last hard rocking album. They sold out....
Oh please. That album and everything after Willis/Clarke was pop trash
@@cbsundancepyromania was good but Hysteria took there sound too the next level

Rick's the real rock in their roll. Just imagine the kind of determination he must've had to get back to drumming with one arm.
Well he had the support of his brothers/friends/bandmates. As Rick said it wasn't a talk of IF but WHEN he returns. This gave him the encouragement to get back out their. He was a drummer and even if it killed him he was going to be up onstage with his boys again. Moreover the band already let him know that they wouldn't tour again without him. The only time I heard this bond again was from South Korea's boy group Super Junior. This was the same message they had for a member who was facing difficulties from haters because of his physical appearance.
Rick shut down all the one-armed-drummer jokes single-handedly - I mean that with absolutely no pun or humor.
@shubhamkhare7 RICK ALLEN DRUMMS WITH 2 FEET AND 1 ARM AND IS AMAZING TO WATCH AND LISTEN FOR DEF LEPPARD. I DO HAVE A VERY GOOD IDEA WHAT RICK A ALLEN WENT THROUGH RECOVERING AND LEARNING TO DR DRUM FROM A DIFFERENT WAY BECAUSE I VOLUNTEERED IN A HOSPITAL LIKE THE ONE RICK ALLEN DID UNTIL HE GOT OUT OF THE HOSPITAL AND LEARNED TO DRUM AGAIN AND I BET THE ROOM HE LEARNED TO DRUM AGAIN IN WAS BLUE WITH BAD LANGUAGE AND FRUSTRATION BUT RICK ALLEN DID IT. THAT IS ONE OF MANY REASONS I'M PROUD OF RICK ALLEN AND JOE ELLIOTT. THE ORIGINAL DEF LEPPARD SINCE THE BEGINNING. GOD BLESS YOU RICK ALLEN AND JOE ELLIOTT FROM A FRIEND ACROSS THE POND IN CANADA.
Not gonna lie, when Rick teared up, I did too.
lol.
Like I said in one of my comments just become brothers think of The Bee Gees in that group there's only 1 left Barry Gibb and he was the oldest and he lost all of his brothers including Andy and he wasn't a Bee Gee but he was still one of the Gibb brothers and he died first and he was the youngest brother just like my brother
Troy Boyle I know...the hairs just stood up on my arms....
even on stage when joe mentioned pete and steve he was trying not to let it go..pardon the pun...lol
Truth me too
I had the absolute pleasure of meeting the band after a Sheffield concert. I was desperate to meet Joe and Sav, who are big idols of mine. However, it was Rick Allen who stole it for me in the end. I've never met a more humble, friendly and just approachable man. He genuinely seemed as happy and excited to meet us as we were to meet him. This man is literal Rock God, but he just sat their chit chatting with us without any care. He is an incredible drummer, but he is a properly incredible person too
Lucky!!!!
I had the pleasure of meeting them last summer! Nicest bunch of guys!
I always looked up to Rick Allen
I'll never forget when I saw Def Leppard last in 2007. They were on tour with Styx and Foreigner and Def Leppard was the final act. I waited till the crowd stopped screaming non stop and told my cousin beside me, "Watch this, I'm gonna make sure these guys know I'm THE #1 fan they've got" so... Bottom line, the crowd died down and that's when I screamed as loud as I could from the 3rd section 6th row on the stadium floor and at that moment Rick Allen pointed out over the crowd at me at I lost it! Tears of joy! It was the greatest moment, as a die hard fan, and I'll never forget it! When your #1 idols show love and support to their fans like that... It makes all the memories of them and their music and influence on everyone that much more memorable and worthwhile. ✌🏻❤🙋💙🤘🏻
Def leppard taught everybody the meaning of friendship and patient... they can just easily find a new drummer to replace Rick but they didn't do it... that's incredible... love you all
Joe Elliot total class...thanking his and his bandmates parents, loyal to members lost and Rick Allen...great band...they are friends and you can tell they love each other...and don't forget where they come from...thanking the fans! Rock Rock to you drop...LOL
Hello,how are you doing?
@@davidmoore2325 i am fine
Awesome that they included Pete Willis. What a class act. Pete killed it early in their career. The loss of Clark ended it. Clark gave them that sound that was irreplaceable. One of the most humble introduction speeches I've heard.
Pete Willis departure ended their great writing and playing. The band sounded just wasn't the same.
Their loyalty to their drummer after a life changing accident is a testament to their character!
YES!!!
Heart warming to see Rick get emotional.
Why don't they play in a place that's very cold maybe that will make Phil want or need to wear a shirt or a jacket and maybe even a hat try Z Kodiak Alaska that's where I was born during a welcome home from the navy. party for my Dad well I was due to enter the world anytime I couldn't wait until before or after the party I wanted to maybe join the party so she went into labor right in the middle of the party and of course I was born disabled but boy what a way to enter the world. February 15th 1967 Day after Valentine's Day
Yes it was!
How can u not get emotional when Brian May is singing ur praises!
Wow. Joe isn't just a great singer. I think I could listen to him talk about his life and career all day. Eloquent, funny and humble.
"If alcoholism, car crashes and cancer couldn't kill us, the night is not a F' chase"... that is so accurate. DEF LEPPARD!
The love these guys have for each other is truly inspiring
What a beautiful speech Joe. You have given us many years of memories with the classic sound that only Def Leppard was capable of. Bless you all.
Thank you so much for your unwavering love ❤️Julie, where are you from?
@DefLeppard-c DEF LEPPARD I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A FANTASTIC FRIEND AND FAN OF YOURS EVEN THROUGH 27 EYE OPERATIONS AND THE NURSES WERE ALL LISTENING TO YOU AS WELL. I JUST GOT GOOD NEWS THAT I WILL LIVE A FEW YEARS LONGER AS ANOTHER DOCTOR WILL BE GIVING ME THE MEDICINE I NEED TO STAY ALIVE. THE MEDICINE STARTED 29 YEARS AGO WHEN A NEW MED CAME OUT AND SPECIALIST GAVE IT TO ME WITH OUT KNOWING WHAT IT DOES . TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT I HAVE A DOCTOR WHO IS STRAITENING OUT THE MESS. RICK ALLEN THANKS FOR THE STRENGTH TO GET THROUGH THIS MESS AND JOE ELLIOTT WHO TAUGHT ME TO SING AGAIN THROUGH STRENGTH AND THE LORD GOD. GOD BLESS YOU DEF LEPPARD FROM YOUR NUMBER ONE FRIEND AND FAN. THANKS FROM YOUR FRIEND ACROSS THE POND IN CANADA SHARON.
6:57 rock n roll history has seen many beautiful moments but from a fellow disabled musicians perspective this has to be one of the most beautiful moments in rock n roll I’ve ever seen a very VERY well deserved standing ovation for Rick
@defleppard, what an honor, but more than deserving !! A little late, so I'll just congratulate you now in 2024 so proud of ya all ! Rock on !! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Def Leppard are a class act - keeping real rock n roll alive while not forgetting where they came from and who got them there.
Steve Clark is one of my all time favorite musicians. He epitomized the rock god.
Hope you smile in heaven as you watch over your mates cranking out riffs.
Glad Def Leppard made it in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!🎤🎸🎵🥁
Joe you forgot plane crashes planes have taken alot of musician's too.and you also made Rick Allen cry but I guess they were happy tears
Amen! So glad Rick survived and became so much stronger! Very blessed that the band stuck together thru that..true friends for life..be blessed..all of you! Stuck together thru thick and thin..that's what it's all about!❤
@@carrieburkey5288 posion should be included too

I think Joe meant that's what has happened to that band alone. Plus Joe early on in their careers had vocal cord problems and literally could not even whisper if he wanted to get his voice back and there's SAV he had Bells Palsy so he has a little bit of paralysis in his face. So they've had their shares of trials that they triumphed over and the only band that I've heard actually acknowledge their fans as their real bosses. ❤❤to Def Leppard ❤❤
i don't see 5 guys, i just see the most beautiful familly on stage. They're going to be in my heart all my life
PETE WILLIS' legacy is written all over those 1st 3 Def Leppard albums! You ROCK, mate!!!
High-n-Dry is one of the Masterpiece's ever recorded.
Glad Pete Willis was given credit. Their first two albums are absolute scorchers, and Pete was very involved in the songwriting.
Christopher Crowder high and dry is my fav of theirs. A killer album.
Good point.
A testament to their integrity to do Pete proper in this speech.
He also contributed greatly on Pyromania
Their best work, IMO
Imagine being anyone, much less someone with the job of drummer to wake up realizing your arm is gone. The terror he must have had, along with all the other emotions. Thinking you just touched success only to lose it. Now think of being on that stage decades later getting cred for STILL doing what was unthinkable at that time. I think that’s where the tears come from. Good on you Rick!
And he was so young too only 18 when that happened. He's still the little brother of the group because he is youngest of the group and Joe being oldest then Sav they are the big brothers of the group. When I hear Joe talk about the guys being the only brothers he's ever known the song He Ain't Heavy He's my Brother comes to mind. 🥰❤😊
Brian May you are such a sincere and genuine man, god bless you.
Joe Elliot is a great speaker. Rock on Def Leppard.
I agree! He's uniquely intelligent and articulate for a rock star, IMHO at least...
You all do realize he’s reading a teleprompter right?

Joe Elliot rose up, gathered round, and rocked that place to the ground.
The standing ovation for Rick Allen, and him tearing up, really got me. I just adore him.
I know every time I see this video I cry. And I've seen Joe almost on the verge of tears when he did an interview and he was talking about Steve Clark
If you didn't shed tears for Rick Allen, you aren't human!!!
Their solidness is crazy
HAIL TO THE THUNDER GOD!!! Rick is the definition of inspiration. He IS what most men can only strive to be. A champion to ones self and a strong hero to millions. We all love you Mr.Allen !!! Your thunder will never die.
They are unique, yet, universal sound of the 80'S. Growing up with Def Leppard was a privilege. They are one of my favorite bands for Life,😉😊🤩🤩🤩💚🤘🤘.
Allen lost his arm, yet came back and kept on playing .... one of greatest plot-twists in RnR history
No question!!!!
A. Nilla-or - Such drive, such ambition, such TENACITY ‼️
While he was recovering from his car accident and the loss of his arm, thinking his young career is over, his bandmates we’re having a special drum set being made custom so that this one armed drummer could continue playing in the band. Freaking friendship goals, makes my heart swell - these are the guys you’d want to be in a band with❤️
TheVgirl93 Rick Allen designed his drum kit with a couple engineers. His band mates encouraged him to find a way to continue playing. It’s amazing how much like a family Def Leppard truly is. They’re my daughters favorite band and was her first concert she attended.
bidwell13 - Mine too (with the exception of The Beatles). When a group of people are with each other more than their traditional family, yeah, you grow such a strong bond. Sometimes, deeper than their own family ‼️‼️‼️
Rick Allen you’re the perfect example to become better and better every day .
God bless you guys for bringing such a great music ❤❤
DEF LEPPARD TILL I DIE ❤❤
That standing ovation for Rick was fantastic.
Older I get, more I respect these guys. Pure class.
“The 90’s had no fucking Chance” will go down as Joe Elliott’s best one liner right alongside “Honey, How much did that purse cost?”
and look on her face. Hahahahahaha.
@@barrythatcher9349
And his daughter laughing like he got you was fabulous.
Love Def Leppard, love Joe Elliott. Joe is one of the most intelligent, thoughtful, and loyal rock stars ever. I love them all, of course, but Joe is singular in his impact on audiences.
Thank you so much for your unwavering love ❤️Amelie, where are you from?
Pyromania was the 1st album that I ever purchased! I had to walk (alone and mom didn't know) for 3 hours to get to the mall. The Zellers was selling an awesome looking album cover that I just had to buy. That was Pyromania! Anyways and after another 3 hour walk home (all while clinching my purchase grinning ear to ear) I got home (townhouse complex) and excitedly showed my friends what I bought...Moot point! lol
I eventually made it down the street (another 1/2 hour) to hopefully play it on my uncles stereo (I didn't have one). Nobody was home. My uncles stereo wall was approx 10'W x 7'tall!
I put the lp onto the player and immediately twisted all the dials full clockwise....Life hasn't been the same since that moment! And life is fucking awesome!
Cool story! How old were you? I discovered Def Leppard via MTV in the early 80’s but didn’t actually get their first two albums til I was in high school in the early 90’s.
40 years as a fan and proud xx
My husband was blessed with the chance to do a drumming event with Rick Allan. He said it was amazing
Rick getting a standing ovation is like, duh of course he would, but still to see and hear it and to see in his face how much it meant to him feels good
Well deserved guys! You never take your audience for granted and you can clearly see you enjoy what you do!
The love they showed for Rick here was so sweet. Long live The Thunder God ❤️🤘
These guys really set the example of how to BE a band.
Very heart warming and sincere speech. Highly touched by RA tearing up, bless him, which misted my eyes too. Have loved Def Lep for some 30 yrs. Keep on rocking boys. You are brilliant musicians and thank you.
Thank you so much for your unwavering love ❤️Cherry, where are you from?
Joe Elliot is so well versed. Wonderful acceptance speech. 💞
Love these guys, so glad they mentioned Pete, he was so important to their early sound.
Switch 625 gives a great example what impact Steve had. RIP.
Pure class
The Thunder God, Rick Allen! Best live show I've ever seen and saw 3 different tours! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for your unwavering love ❤️Rebecca, where are you from?
Joe Elliot sounds like to be a very kind and gentle, funny man. Bless you all
that is one heart-touching speech by Brian May, Def Leppard must have felt very emotional
Rick is the embodiment of the "FK YOU!" that follows when someone says you can't do something. Love that guy!!
Such a great speech Joe!! I will never forget the day when I was 10 yrs old in 1987 that I fell in love with Def Leppard! The greatest band of all time!
Such humble and loving band mates who prove that you can do anything after all the struggles life throws at you. I’ve never known such a nice and grounded rock group who still act the same no matter how much money they have earned. Well deserved guys you should have been in the Hall of Fame years ago
Seeing Rick tear up got me going, legend!
Rick Allen is rightfully the drummer for this band. He is the heart of Def Leppard.
It was nice that Joe mentioned Steve.
but not so much Vivian...... maybe when he wrote the speech it slipped his mind.... and that "DOES" happen.... obviously he mentioned the cancer.. so Vivian is in their hearts and thoughts...
@@zolitariglussey6302 He didn't talk anything about Phil Collen or Rick Savage either. The "cancer" is certainly referred to Viv.
absolute class by true gentlemen. this band deserves all the accolades from their hard work embroiled with tragedy but managing to stay humble, continuing to perform with the same energy and enthusiasm and love. this band has always made me happy and made me get into electric guitar. i miss you steve! you were my first guitar hero!
Grown up with this band...first album I ever bought was pyromania, I'm 47 years old now and still love these guys.
I love this speech. I have watched it a bunch of times and enjoy it a bit more each time.
Love how real they are...Kudos Rick you deserve it!!
Ya dont get more real than YORKSHIRE, Yay Rock on :)
I cant stop my goosebumps!!. Your music forever Def! And thank you for it🙏👏👏
7:12 I'm in tears. You are amazing Rick
I guess Phil Collen doesn’t like shirts
Hahahahahahaahahhaaha
If I had a body like that I would not either
If they ever perform where there is snow involved he better wear a shirt coat maybe even a hat
he benches 25kg and likes to show it.
Was just laughing because it's a thing with Phil!!!
7:00 Rick, you are a warrior! One of the best drummers to ever live!
Salute to you, sir!!
These guys are great - always were, always will be !!! I remember listening to them on my Sony Walkman when Pyromania came out. I was hooked on their sound ever since !!!!!

It brought tears to my eyes as well seeing Rick get emotional, he's amazing, just like Joe is as well he's amazing Def Leppard is the best see you next summer 2021. Joe you're my eye candy
I listened to Def Leppard for the very first time in Monterey CA. Photograph!!!
I still and always will be A Big Fan. Went to see them at the Tacoma Dome for my birthday, October 1992??? I went with my sister, Donna Gregg. We're both back in Alaska. Loved Seattle, Portland... actually, the Great Northwest Territory!! Good times!!
Was fortunate to catch the band this week at Royal Festival Hall in conversation about their early years and launching their biography. Each and every one of them, in the band now, gone and departed included, are a class act. Hugely inspirational in so many ways, larger than life yet authentic and humble to the core. Thank you for all the music and the inspiration. Oh and their biography is an absolute cracker! Don’t miss it!!
You guys deserve it , pity Steve didn't make it , he is still rocking with you guys but in spirit. Keep rocking
Awww, so sweet the dedication to Rick Allen was, tears, tears, and more tears!
I only started listening to Def Leppard about a year ago and boy have i missed out. What an absolutely fantastic band. The beauty of only finding them recently is my young 9 year old daughter has shared the journey with me and she loves them too.So much so she is insisting that we get tickets for their next uk tour! Wow, what a complete class act. Love these guys.
I have never cried watching one of my these speeches but this one sure got me! These guys have heart! I love that they have stood there test of time!
It's bands like Queen, Def Leppard and Bon Jovi that were responsible for my taste in music, my love of rock. Def Leppard's 'Adrenalize' album was a huge one for me, I had it on cassette and I played it ALL THE TIME. Out for walks, it was on my walkman. I wore the tape out and had to buy another one. The first one wasn't even mine, it belonged to my brother but he rarely saw it once I started listening to it! Thank you DL for being amazing all these years.
Been a leppard fan since early 80s

In 1989 I had a music class in college in New Zealand ( high school) we were allowed to play a song at the start of every lesson...Most songs were from Hysteria!!...... it was a massive album
Wow what a wild run. When I was in high school in early 80’s, we had to ride the bus for about an hour to and from school cuz we lived in rural area (Indian reservation). I remember this young guy would bring his big cassette player and blasted “Pyromania” or “High in Dry”. That’s how I became a Def Leppard fan. Congratulations to them and Rock on 🤘🏻
