I guess I never realized how close knit Queen and Def Leppard were, and that warms my heart.
Go
It's so amazing my friend from SAC.CAli. we played the same places our old drummer played with one of the members in TESLA WHO'S great friends with def leopard phil prouducer on TESLAS new record TWO of my favourite BANDS IT'S REAL DON'T GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS GO FOR IT I WANNA BE like FRANK HE'S SUCH A GREAT MUSICIAN N HUMBLE ALWAYS HELPING PEOPLE DOING BIGGER EVENTS TO HELP SCHOOLS HAVE MUSIC INSTERMENTEL THINGS I CANT SAY ENUFF THANKS TESLA N LEOPARD YOU GUYS ARE STILL KILLER WE LOVE YOU ALL
Both groups lost band members when Steve Clark and Freddie Mercury died the same year (1991).
Rick Allen said in an interwiew in 1988 " Brian May is the biggest fan of Def Leppard, and we are the biggest fans of Brian May"
Queen were among their glam rock heroes, in fact that's where those signature harmonies came from.
Rick Allens smile could literally heal the world. So much beauty in his heart that shines through his eyes when he smiles. I adore that man, and this band.
Agreed ❤
ABSOLUTELY. ❤
Agree, he's a beautiful soul
Brian May is such a class act.
I was about to write that :)
Absolutely!!
“Ooh, Classy” - Michael Scott
He is the real "Queen" of England
Maria Wood because he is a genius
Brian May is one of the most magnificent human beings ever born. A genius in so many different fronts.
Amen!!
Hear hear!!!
Amen indeed, and, as the senate prayer reader recentky , twattishly said 'and awomen. Cringe times, these. Long live these great rockers with their Union Jack references
One of the best songs in the day Photograph " Joe Elliot? Short Hair in a bob???
@@matthewlacey5307 bro stroke?
Some people think they are cool, but you're not cool unless Brian May is your friend and inducts you into the RR Hall of Fame, He truly loves every single member of this family of his.
I don’t know what it is about Brian May but I could listen to him all day, regardless of topic
I could literally listen to him waffling about badgers for years.
If he wanted to talk about his mum for an hour and a half I would be all ears...hehe
I could too! Not only does he have a beautiful voice, an amazing head of hair and a crazy sense of humor, he's intelligent, caring and kind. ❤️
Agree
Not only a guitar god but an astrophysicist. Guy is teeming with knowledge
Watching Rick Allen's face while Brian spoke brought tears to my eyes. I don't think that man gets enough respect for doing the job he has done for all these years with ONE ARM. I love Brian's speech & they totally deserved this honor.
Great comment! I agree with you completely.
if Brian may says photograph is on hysteria then it is. def leppard are the ones that made the mistake of putting it somewhere else😂😂
😂🤣😂
LOL I say put Photography on BOTH Pyromania and Hysteria! lol Why not?
😂😂😂
Buffoonery, Brian May 💪

Love this band so much. I am so glad this band is still here. Rick Allen's tears streaming down his face, watching him hug everyone with his one arm, provoked a lot of good emotions in me. As much as I doubt my battles with healing from my traumas, from my alcoholism, I am a musician, through and through. Def Leppard brought that gift to me. No matter what happens in life, I always have these songs. This induction is long overdue and much appreciated.
So long overdue....
...and yes, no matter what we may endure in life, we ALWAYS have these songs and music to lift our spirits~
I feel you, Curious. Same.
Being inducted by Brian May is a reward in itself.. mic drop!
1991 was sad year for both bands-Def Leppard lost their guitarrist Steve Clark and Queen lost their frontman Freddie Mercury. Def Leppard performed in FM tribute concert in 1992 Wembley Stadium.
Love def leppard and queen
Brian May is goat in his own right, as a guitarist and a human. Loves music and people
I'm not a very sentimental person, but to see Rick smile (almost in tears too) during Brian's induction speech I get all mushy and want to hug Rick myself!! I love Def Leppard!!! :)
Same here. I’m so proud of him and how determined he was to continue drumming. He’s such a genuine person and because of this he will always be my all time favorite drummer! Love you Rick!!!😎😘
🤣🤣 Brian May's not only a great musician, but he's a comedian. That shit was good. My dad got me listening to Def Leppard, and I'm always thankful for that. Congrats to them 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💯💯
Next up, Priest! 🤘🏽🤘🏽
I've loved Def Leppard since my " Inter cert" in 87, but I only discovered the track "Photograph" recently and it's amazing
@@MazeMuse Nice bro. It's a good song to know. There's not a single crack in the armor on 'Pyromania' imo.
@Hutch McGehee Yeah exactly! Groundbreaking band deserving of the recognition.
@Hutch McGehee
No, as in Judas Priest.
You forgot that he's also an astrophysicist
Great speech but Photograph was on Pyromania
And When Worlds Collide?......hmmmm
@@giftofflesh I was so confused by that too cause I know my Def Leppard songs!!!
kev5621 , correct, but in the grand scheme of things, I think Brian May should be given a hall pass. The rest of his induction speech was respectful, appreciative, and heartfelt.
some people are “Know it alls”. Brian is a genius. yes, give the man a pass. ps.. watch Brian's hands when he talks, they look so gentle, and these are the hands that bring the Red Special to life. Brian's moving into “Legend”. ...
I was gonna say that...
Awesome ! A Legend embracing a legendary band 🤘♥️
Def Leppard is a band of friends that are closer than brothers, through Steve's passing, Rick's Crash and amputation to Viv's cancer they have stayed steadfast and loyal to each other, that and their dedication to their craft cements their place as one of the greatest bands in music history.
I really wish Clarkie had lived to celebrate this moment with Def Leppard.
Probably theeee most heartfelt speech I've heard, what a guy. And what a band
Flea had the best speech. Period.
Rishi Pranav it’s like comparing a Lada to a Bentley! Brian is a legend and a gentleman Flea is an ok bassist and a twat!
No, Alex Lifeson from Rush did.
Brian May hit the nail on the head.
7:37 Rick was very touched. that's nice.
I didn't realize how nervous Brian was until watching this all the way through. He made several mistakes which I'll wager were more from nerves than from not knowing the facts. It's cool to see genuine friendship in the world whether that be from rock & roll, or anywhere else. It's rather obvious that the boys from Sheffield has earned a lot of respect from their peers, and if that includes Brian May, well that's even more cool.
It gives me *more* respect for Brian because so many inductions are cocky and "performed," but he went up there and I think his mind just blanked with "Oh shit, I love these guys... don't fuck it up, don't fuck it up..." on such an emotional level.
Yes i noticed the mistakes. Who cares tho it’s Brian May inducting you in to the Rock n Roll hall of fame. Who else can say that 😎
What are the mistakes??
@@melissatyree566he just mixed up a couple of albums and stuttered on some names, nothing important
@@epsilon6516 👍 ok
Nice to hear the Freddie Mercury tribute concert mention! That was amazing with them as well as the whole thing!
Can do without that
It’s Brian May if he wants it to be on Hysteria it’s on Hysteria. It might actually be on Hysteria now that he said it ;-)
Right on, my brother. Testify! How many bands would sell their souls to the devil to have Brian May praise them? We all know that he meant Pyromania, but big fucking deal. We are only human and he had a shitload of notes to read from, of course there are going to be cockups. All that matters is that when Def Leppard were kids and nobody's, one of their true heroes was Brian May....and here he is inducting them. That is beyond surreal and the solid evidence that dreams really can and do come true.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
LOL I didn't think of it that way, but you're probably right. Going forward, Photograph may now have to be on BOTH Hysteria and Pyromania! :D
This is so much better than just strictly listing band accomplishments. Brian also talks about personal stuff between them.
Congrats Def Leppard!! Awesome back then, and still rock 2020! Thank you much for your music..Thank you Queen as well! Awesome bands!👍
Brian May that was an excellent speech, awesomely well said!!!!❤🎉😊
Love Def Leppard. Big crush on Rick Savage😉 Great band and songs. Congrats! Everyone.
Always loved Sav
So Very Fabulous to have Brian shAring with us in this glorious induction!! Historical Grandness, dear Brian,.We love you! Congrats to Def Leopard!! 💓💓💓
“Pyromania,” Brian.
Yeah lol🤣 but I forgive him coz he's a legend..🤘
@Tommy Bain You obviously don't know your Def Leppard history. Brian is a friend. He has performed with them a few times. Lep even played the Freddie Mercury tribute concert.
Yep
@Tommy Bain I agree with you.. I love em all the same.. Like a guilty pleasure...YOU are still right on.. Almost like a product painted in the day they were recommended for ... Sales often don't reflect true Skill
@Tommy Bain You think wrong. Brian is good friends with the guys in the band, he was pleased to do it. His speech was emotional and touching, obviously not something he was forced to do as a favour. And the band is not uncool, it's just you who doesn't like them and that's all.
2:30 He means the album Pyromania not Hysteria, as Pyro did sell 10 million.
Photograph is off of Pyromania in 1983, not Hysteria which came out in 87. Small distinction, but a lot of people make that mistake. People usually talk about Def Leppard as if Hysteria is their only album and it had every hit they ever made on it.
Pyromania is the album that really blew them up, and Hysteria is the album that made them a household name
Good induction from Brian May to Def Leppard. I Love Def Leppard. Congrats to them for being in the hall of Fame. 🙂❤❤❤🤟🤟🤟
Just when you think Joe could not get any cooler, he saves Brian May's life and never mentions it (if he did, I can't find a reference). Class act.
The phone call thing made me tear up a bit too :")
Dr. Brian May.....right hand to FREDDIE....God almighty guitarist....undisputed LEGEND.
🙏🙏
They are the best of the best I've been a faithful and loyal fan since I was 15 year's old now I'm 56 and still a loyal fan ROCK ROCK
ive never heard him swear
Surprised me too!
Oh I have ! Loads of times !
I think I might have I’ve definitely heard roger tailor swear
You can hear him when he's sometimes quoting Freddie or talking about animal rights in England
whenever he quotes freddie there is atleast one swear word. 🥵
I actually saw Def Leppard Monday night along with Journey and the Steve Miller Band!!! I didn’t even know we were going to see them in concert until we pulled up to Globe Life Field, home of the 2023 World Series Champions, Texas Rangers!!!!!! I don’t know how else to say it: it was a dream come true!!!!!!!!!!!! Never in a million years did I ever think I’d ever get the privilege to see Joe Elliot, Rick Savage, Vivian Campbell, and the Thunder God Rick Allen!!!!!!!!!!! And in a ballpark, no less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My mom got me listening to def Leppard and queen and to this day I still love these bands the music and the inspiration behind their Storys
My fav hard rock band - Def Leppard forever!
Brian May is a legend, this man knows how to guitar.
Also many other assets. He's an astrophysicist with many degrees, has written many books, paints, etc etc! Lastly, has had the same hairstyle throughout his entire career!
Oh yeah, Brian May & Def Leppard!
A great speech!
🤟🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
As a small child, my 27 y/o daughter had her Fisher Price Cassette player blasting the PYROMANIA tape!!
Brian is such a great guy. I love how he shared his personal experiences with us.
What a great achievement and so very much deserved
MY 2 FAVORATE BANDS GROWING UP WHERE AC/DC AND DEF LEPARD
"You only get one chance, so don't fuck it up." He then goes on to fuck it up. Photograph was from the Pyromania album. But it's Brian May. He can get away with anything.
hahaaaaa
he probably had a couple cocktails
he also said "when worlds collide". lol! but thats brian may. so from now on, i'd call that song when worlds collide. haha!

Yeah I really love Def Leppard too. Love that Brian inducted them. Its It's so great to listen to unknown info about our fav musicians.
Dr Brian May. Music and Astrophysics. What a man.
The more I learn about Def Leppard the more appreciation I have for them. A real rock n roll family, amazing songs, top of the line skill and talent. They are heart warming to say the least. Love you guys, Rock On!
being inducted by queen member into rock & roll HOF is a dream for musicians
"..as honest and decent a bunch of guys ....". From Dr B May, who is the epitomy of that, is high praise indeed and it makes me well-up.
SIR Dr May!!
How awesome that Brian May inducts Def Leopard to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Congratulations on getting inducted into the hall of fame guys.
Boy , I was born in 71, this band is part of my teenage years! LET’S GET ROCKED!!!
😭❤️ Queen and Def Leppard ; my two most favorite bands 😍😍 awesome induction!
Mine too, ever since I was in diapers! 😃😃
July 2024 Had to rewatch. Love Def Leppard especially Rick Allen -Great Man Great Drummer Great Human- The THUNDERGOD! and Brian May is so dam cool (and super freaking smart)
A few years ago, I’m in NYC for the first time in my life. We are walking through Soho and I look over to a table at an outside cafe and there is Brian May. I mouth “hi Brian” and he gives me a nod and smile, and I keep on walking. This is my life sometimes. Sublime.
You lucky girl… he is such a down to earth guy. I hope he realises how much joy and comfort people feel towards him. We are seriously loosing these treasures due to age… these people feed our souls. Forever thankful.
What an absolute class speech and tribute to a great band, nobody could have done it better, thank you Dr Brian May!! x
Don't ever die sir Brian May
I could Listen to Brian May read a telephone book and listen to every word.
So touching and heartfelt. Made me cry.
"Joe Elliott saved my life."
Brian May
🙂🙃😉🥰🥰🥰
Considering the crowds Brian has played in front of, a huge shout out for DL. Pure class...couldn't have had a better person to induct them.
Brian May’s hair upstages everyone. I love those curls.
Love them, hate them, you CANNOT deny their impact on the popularity of rock/metal music in 80s. They released a great debut album in On Through the Night, and followed it up with the greatest run any rock band had over the course of the 80s, better than Bon Jovi and better than Motley Crue. They released back to back DIAMOND albums in Pyromania and Hysteria, produced by one of rocks most unbelievable producers in Mutt Lange. Their blend of pop and metal helped create the foundation of a musical dynasty that defined a decade. When grunge hit, they didn’t remain stubborn, they adjusted, even if they fell a little short, they tried to change their sound to fit the music landscape. From Bringin on the Heartbreak on High N Dry to Pour Some Sugar On Me on Hysteria to Promises on Euphoria, they are the masters of creating incredibly smooth, fun and electric pop/metal hits with amazing riffs and killer hooks. They lost their first guitarist to alcohol abuse (although he survived), then Steve Clark to his own demons. Rick Allen lost an arm, and came back a better drummer for it. Tragedy, Success and lots of Rock and Roll, they are legends. They deserve this, whether you like them or not.
I seen def leopard 3 times
The first was back in 97 me and my friends seen them in Johnstown pa we were at the holiday in and they were there at the holiday inn
They were having a party as at that time they would do that on there last tour date
Great experience and time we were right on the floor at the railing
I’ve got great pictures
I’ll never forget

Brian May, all class!
Brian May always a class act but yeah Photograph was on Pyromania....
mike blaz , small mistake in the broader context of his speech.
Def Leppard didn’t care about the mistake so why are you?

Favourite Def Lep song personally is "Let It Go" from the High 'n' Dry album. They really defined some of the greatest of '80s British crossover heavy rock bands.
I love Joe Elliott SO MUCH, and Def Leppard SO MUCH. Thanks Brian May, you are a class act.
Sir Brian is the standard bearer for our generation of Rock and Roll.
Could see Rick Allen ready to break down when Joe mentioned Steve. RIP.
Man I have way too much respect for Rick Allen... 🙏
Me too he deserves it so much ☺️❤️
Oops, Brian, Photograph was on Pyromania. But you know what? Brian can do that, being a legend.
The RnHHoF is a joke. Nothing against Def Leppard; they were my first ever gig in a tiny Yorkshire venue back in 1979. They were good, but were never more than an average (overhyped) rock band. When I think of all the truly great bands that haven't made it in, and never will (Free, Bad Company, Jethro Tull, UFO, Blue Oyster Cult etc), it really puts things into perspective. Record sales have nothing whatsoever to do with greatness. The RnHHoF is merely a corporate gimmick.
My friend was working at a Chevron station back in the 80's I was working at the Denny's restaurant behind it. Def Leppard Pulled up to the Chevron. Joe got out, came up to the window, bought a pack of smokes, and paid with a card. Back then we had the old slide/manual machine for the cards. He signed for it and got back in the bus. My friend came over to the Denny's were I was working and told me what happened. He knew I was a BIG FAN, so he gave me the receipt with Joe's autograph on it. He told me he would work it out with the owner the next day, they were friends as well. However the next day he had to come get it back from me. He said the there was nothing the owner could do he had to have that copy. so I gave it back, and that's how I almost got Joe Elliott's Autograph. I saw them in concert 3 times after that in Fresno CA, but never got the chance. (maybe someday!)
Shame, he or you couldn't just pay it. Smokes were like a dollar back then.
@@motleyaces well the bus had got gas/desal, plus I always thought he just wanted it for himself. he was kind of an asshole like that. lol..
@@motleyaces well the bus had gotten some fuel, also I think he (the owner) really just wanted it for himself. he was kind of A-hole like that.
