For Australian fans of heavy metal music, there’s no better news than the announcement that iconic bands Def Leppard and Mӧtley Crüe have joined forces and will be touring the country later in the year. In anticipation of their visit, Tara Brown travelled to London for exclusive interviews with both groups. Brown discovered that despite their shared rock legend status, and the stage they share, Def Leppard and Mӧtley Crüe are two very different bands. Together though, they’re proving there’s enormous worldwide demand for the hugely enthusiastic racket they make.

Def Leppard are pure class, and still sound fantastic both on stage, and off.
phhthtt
Def still has it but the Crue should hang it up
Bollox, the Crüe rocked Dublin. I expected them to suck and they were one of the most entertaining acts I've ever seen. Def were superb aswell.
Def Leppard are indeed a class act. Not like others
Cant say the same for Motley Crue.
I've seen Def Leppard in concert twice and my only complaint was that the show didn't go on for hours! They're amazing and worth whatever price. They know how to entertain. Thanks to all of them!
I saw Def Leppard also in Las Vegas august 14th 2019
Who played first ?
Def Leppard are the kings of melody!!
I always respected how Def Leppard stuck by their fellow bandmate after his accident, gave him the time to heal and supported him as he contemplated and ultimately succeeded at designing a kit that could be played with one arm, which (obviously) meant he had to "completely relearn" how to play drums in this new (extremely) unorthodox manner, which (goes without saying) is a testament to the mans talent and perseverance!. Most musicians would have given up and most bands would have sought a replacement and you have to respect that and I certainly have Always respected the "Rick Allen's, Tony Iommi's, Mick Mars', etc" that Refused to let injuries, disease, birth defects, etc, etc, get in the way of following (or continuing to follow) their dreams!..
Yeah no question I always thought that was amazing loyalty shown to Rick Allen, what Motley Crue have done to Mick Mars however...
@@someguy2972 They supported Mick as long as he could possibly do it. By several accounts, including his, he would probably be dead if he hadn't been encouraged to come back in 2000. He was wasting away. From what I understand, he didn't want to go on tour anymore.
that being so then you would love Ian Drury ?
@@troys9222 Not according to the lawsuit...
10:50 Vince's face
My mom went to one of Motley Crue’s first shows at the whisky. She still has the first pressing of ‘too fast for love’ which was under Crue’s own Lethur record label. Only 900 copies were pressed and my mom has one and it’s signed by the entire band.
That probably worth a lot of money
Great story- thx!
No she doesn’t actually but if story telling makes you feel validated 😂
Just gunna put this out there: Def Leppard is STILL going strong both live and in the studio. If you see them live you will get your money's worth. Point being they are the definition of rock legends.
phhttt definition of garbage LOL. Simple music and absolutely pathetic lyrics and sound
Thanks! Am looking at both bands’ touring schedules.
they be amazeballz live l got to see them live at the big e in west springfield massachusetts sept 30th 2000 at the outdoor arena
i saw the tour and Def Leppard was the best over all the bands. Even my husband, who loves the crue, said def leppard was better
You ain't lying.
Mad respect to Def Leppards drummer. Always. I recall that ironically turned things up a notch for them. I know I was amazed
Great interview. I love Def Leppard even more.. And Motley... Well, would've been nice to hear a mention of Mick. You can't deny his history and contribution to the band.
Great Interview, sort of...No mention of Mick is a disgrace.
Mick , made it happen with those riffs … spot on should of mentioned him … period !
Thought nikki was a hypocritic for saying we always have each others back's you couldn't wait to turn your back on mick the first chance you got they wouldn't be where they are today without mick they should take a leaf out of deaf leopard's book that band has always supported their band mates no matter what struggles they faced even the loss of an arm couldn't break them I used to love motley crue but they have fallen off in my opinion
Mick Mars chose to leave due to his own poor health.
The man himself said exactly so.
And yet, STILL there are idiots all over the internet who spread fake rumours and attack the rest of Motley for Mick personally choosing to leave.
Unbelievable. Worse than a bunch of tuck shop mothers all gossiping and spreading BS fairytales.
By the way, Def Leppard are just like that, too.
Just ask Pete Willis.
None of you even have a clue, only here to hate on Vince, Tommy and Nikki. Pathetic.
These 2 bands WILL be remembered for many many many years to come.
.LONG LIVE THE 80S
I love Def Leppard, I grew up listening to them in the 80s. I miss the 80s!! Much love from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦😎🔥. Motley Crue is Okay, but Def Leppard has more Class. They've Aged Well!!
Regards from aruba 🇦🇼, also fan of both these bands, soundtrack of childhood and lifetime
Def Leppard had more class? Maybe some of the members but you obviously never met their drummer. Either way they both were great bands back in they day.
Def leppard first 3 albums🤙
Motley Crue first 5 albums🤙
I love Def Leppard as well as Motley Crue and have listened to both since the mid 80s and I also miss the 80s
I will be so happy to receive a YES from a heart❤️ that loves what I do
it's a shame you can't use their music for a news interview.
Yea that really sucked.
I have a hunch it was used during the television showing of the interview, but for some reason could not be used/licensed for highlights on RUclips.
Again just a hunch.
I agree. Must be a RUclips thing. The video clips with no sound are just jarringly awkward. I think they must’ve used the music for the broadcast and then cut it for RUclips.
To have EVERY MUSIC CLIP MUTED is just fucking stupid. 🤬🤬🤬
They could at least add subtitles of what track is playing
Def Leppard are a Pure Class Rock group and sound Fantastic both on and off stage they are an awesome band Keep Rocking Def Leppard love the Music
I will be so happy to receive a YES from a heart❤️ that loves what I do

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I saw both of them along with Poison and Joan Jett last year in the states. All were great, but Def Leppard was the stand out. I’m an 80’s kid so it was AWESOME! I took my 20 year old son and he had a ball at a real 80’s rock concert.
Motley is just a glorified "Air Band" (sans John 5).
2 giants of 80s rock together on a unique world tour🤘🏻🤟.
Keep on rockin Def Leppard and motley crue
In 6th grade I used to have posters of Def Leppard, among several other hair bands, on my bedroom walls and I would kiss them before walking to the bus stop for school lol. I applaud them for still going strong, but man, I have to say, all those years of hard living and debauchery has really caught up with some of those guys. Where has the time gone? Thanks for the walk down memory lane of the best decade ever - the 80's!
Debauchery is the word. Tommy Lee, at one time, was stunning hardly recognized him. This is with all the $$ and the best available surgeons dental experts on tap.
@@gracie1598 Yup, true that. Although it looks like Vince has had some bad plastic surgery. 😳
@@gracie1598 Oh! And a fun fact. I hung out with Tommy's sister Athena at her house one time. We sat on the couch together with a mutual friend and watched Hot Tub Time Machine, since Motley Crüe had done the soundtrack for that movie. She was going through a difficult divorce from her cheating husband, the drummer of the Scorpions at that time. I felt so bad for her, she was a mess. She's a kick ass drummer in her own right as well.
Hey I remember you. You still doing audits?
@@theseattlegreen1871 Hey stranger. Interesting bumping into you here lol. No I don't do those anymore, not for over 3 years. So much has happened since, feels like a lifetime ago. I hope you're doing well! 👍😺
These are my legit favorite two hair metal bands from the 80''s. So awesome to see they're still around and doing things.:)
Dam I started crying when Steve came on screen. I still remember EXACTLKY where I was when the news came through the Boston hard rock station WAAF .Still hurts when Im reminded of it. All hail Def Leppard!
Saw motley Crue and def Leppard in Fenway stadium in Boston 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 frigging awesome ❤❤❤❤
Wow can't believe I've been for 44 years. I'll always be a fan of Def Leppard
I love both of these bands. The 80s were the best of times growing up for concerts, sports, tv, movies.I went to many concerts back then but never went to see Def Leppard live.I did see Motley Crue back in 87 along with Whitesnake at the old Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, wish I could go back in time to a most awesome decade.
“Any regrets!” The look on Vince’s face😅😐 anyway, I love Def Leppard!!
Def Leppard are insanely good live, I really wanna goto this show if I can, I have seen them a couple of times and they are one of my favourite
What it was like listening to these guys in the 80's.you were devoted.all you did was dress similar. Talk similar..all you heard was their music jamming as loud as possible and cruising around...it was magical.its truly hard to explain how those days were. It was a much easier and pleasurable time.
These men respect each other and help each other it’s lovely to see ❤
Thank you for showing this, back in the day I loved both bands, a little before my time, but I still remember the music & here’s hoping they keep going for another decade or so …
Def Leppard Rocks ❤
I will be so happy to receive a YES from a heart❤️ that loves what I do
Considering not just the dramatic life changing events they’ve but the difficulty they had even making it in the first place, I’m amazed they have lasted and been as consistent as they are. And Phil Collen is a class act.
Saw them 3 weeks ago in UK they both fab ! X
I’ve loved both bands since I was 11 in 1988. I do love Lep the most and look forward to seeing them in concert for the 6th time in two weeks.
I will be so happy to receive a YES from a heart❤️ that loves what I do
WOW...Tommy Lee's past is finally catching up with him.
Did you see when he showed his nude pic on Twitter? Geez
That’s what I was thinking! I kept having to make sure it was him! At first I thot it was someone trying to look like him, he doesn’t even look like himself 😬
But yeah, he’s done a LOT of “living” soooo
When i was in the Uk in the early 2000s my boss grew up in Sheffield and when to the same school, was in the same class as a couple of the Def Leppard guys and remembers them discussing names in class for the band one day. He didn't remember specifically that name but he remembers hearing them talk about it and knew they went on to become , Def Leppard.
I'm 57. I was a kid when I saw Def Leppard in 1983 on the Pyromania tour. They were incredible. Good to see them still at it. I do miss Steve Clark though. I saw Motley Crue in 1987 on the Girls, Girls, Girls tour. They were also incredible. Likewise, good to see them still at it. Nothing against John 5, but it's not really the Crue without Mick Mars. Oh yeah, Motley had this unknown opening act with them in 1987. A five member group called Guns N Roses on their Appetite for Destruction tour. Do I really need to say anything about them on that tour? Keep on rockin' folks!
That's awesome that both bands can have a great time touring still together. However my favorite is Def Leppard for sure. ❤🤘
I will be so happy to receive a YES from a heart❤️ that loves what I do
Jesus Vince Neil isn’t aging very well. Saw Def Leppard in 2018 and they were fantastic. I knew every song. The crowd was all dressed like the 80’s
Looks good in this interview compared to what he looked like a year ago.
And why does Tommy’s face look like Sharon Osbourne ?
Tommy looks like some old bum.
Tommy Lee either. Look at him. What happened to his face?
Def Leppard is my favorite band and I loved Motley Crue as a teenager.
Seen The Crue multiple times in Toronto. Always a good show.
Rock never dies ❤ this is my time machine
Nikki Sixx is a hell of a songwriter. All of the Crue antics can’t take it away.
Damn Tommy is looking crazy here😂
Def Leppard is the best!!
Love both of these bands, and I saw them both live back in the day! Rock on guys!
That fake laugh to straight face from Vince around @10:45 lmao. He hates these guys.
The missing music would have gone a long way but I love these two regardless seen both of them live just wasn’t this tour 🤘
Two of my MOST FAVORITE BANDS....... EVER !
What's up with the primitive editing? Every time they show footage of both bands performing, the audio goes dead silent. Is this some kind of copyright issue, where you're not allowed to play any of their music in this segment? It's totally bizarre.
That's what I'm thinking. Yt would strike it. I bet their music is copyrighted. I know i wanted to hear their music during this.
60 minutes is too tight to pay for the royalties twice - once for tv and once for YT 😂 Otherwise it will get a strike on it!
Ya that was odd, u can talk to the bands but not hear the music, stupid and annoying
@@chrissyknowsitall5170 Yeah, that's probably what it is. Although, you'd think that since the band is actually participating in the interview, there wouldn't be any problem with playing any of the music and they'd approve it. Strange.
@@thearmchairjournalist566 Haha.. Sadly, I don't doubt that and that may actually be the case here.
Can't wait for the Melbourne show! What a great year it's been for live music. Smashing Pumpkins/Jane's Addiction. Now Def/Crue. They don't make 'em like they use too.
*_Damn Tommy looks like a younger Keith Richards now._*
Def Leppard are TRUE PROFESSIONALS AT THEIR CRAFT . AMAZING 🤩
Can't wait to see Def Crue, going to see them August along with Alice Cooper. This is going to be my first rock concert at 50, this my going wild at 50 🤟😜😂
I'll be seeing them in August for the 41st time❤ You're gonna love the show!
Crue is terrible live. Backing track and an awful sound mix. Just letting you know to not expect much from Crue. It’s sad. Leppard will save the night, though. And Alice, obviously.
Im just glad ive seen Def Leppard on multiple occasions in the past yrs back to 2008. They always kickass live..
‘We’ve had each others backs through everything “
Except for Mick, though…you mean?
Yeah, to hell with those dudes. Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx are scumbag phonies who also made fun of Vince Neil when he was out of the band. Douchebags. Def Leppard is the absolute best.
And sacking Vince in the early 90's, whilst backstabbing him. They don't even like each other. The word is hypocrisy. Just a $ grab now.
The guys were epic both in Sheffield and Wembley.
The Crue are still badass, but I’m sending my love to Joe and the boys ❤ they really stole the show in both venues and I’ll never forget that.
SAW 3M TOO here stateside... Poison and Leppard ROCKED Motley people were LOL literally... but audience was 75% drunk and didn't care.
I will be so happy to receive a YES from a heart❤️ that loves what I do
I noticed the interviewer didn’t bring up Mick Mars departure from the band. Definitely a black mark to them. Also didn’t know they have been permanently banned from the rock hall, probably deserved as well
Phil is a massively underrated guitar player...if "Foolin" doesn't get you driving faster nothing will. And Viv Campbell has a resume that reads like a Rock God.
"We're in the 'we don't give a fuck' stage of our careers." Yea, Nikki, when you aren't even playing live, you definitely don't give a fuck about ripping off the fans the same as you're back-stabbing Mick. People deserve a live show for these exorbitant tickets. Big ups to the Leps for not only playing live, but for being honest to the fans.
T Shirt £40. 4 beers £27.50. next date Lytham cheapest ticket £200ish !!!! Ticketmaster , pay to print your ticket.
Tommy lee looks like an old bum too! Imagine being their age and acting like your 17, it's absurd.
They have sucked for decades. Complete overrated joke of a band
You've got a point there
It's really been a detriment to their multiple highly successful tours
Mick started the slagging off and back stabbing.
But yeah, only accuse Motley of behaving that way, when they have truly said jack sh*t against Mick publicly since Mick PERSONALLY CHOSE to quit.
They're not as foolish as Mick is, to go slagging off anyone. Especially when the lawsuits come thick and fast.
Thinks he can slander the rest of the band and get away with it. 🤣 Foolish man.
It says a lot about Motley Crue how they forced Mick out of the band due to his disability all while Def Leppard has gave their ongoing support to Rick Allen with his disability just as friends should.
@scottyboiLP What's wrong with Mick Mars? Is it MS? I remember years ago he had trouble moving around and doctors said it'll only get worse. So I got to imagine that physically it's probably impossible for Mick to perform. And that really sucks because I love Mick Mars.
@ppiorkowski1502 Mick has "Ankylosing spondylitis", a painful bone disease that has fused his entire spine and has caused him to need both hips replaced and he has been dealing with this painful condition since his teens and it is (obviously) progressive, but Mick has endured and suffered (silently) all these years!. It may have been Micks choice to stop touring at 71 and who could fault him at his age and suffering from an extremely painful degenerative bone disease no less, but the Crue tried to F him financially and if you know "the true" history of the band, you'd know the band would have NEVER gotten off the ground, gotten their first managers, first record recorded/released, etc without Mick and his industry connections, financial backers, etc. It's the story the band NEVER mentions and what you NEVER saw in their subpar Netflix film!.. I love the band, though my opinion on them has changed pretty drastically since Micks departure and this is in no way a diss toward J5, who is just a guy taking advantage in a once in a lifetime opportunity and not responsible for any of the BS going on between Motley and Mick!..
Mick left because Nikki lip syncs and doesn’t play and vince too. it’s a joke.
@@dgenerated
Mick made his own personal choice to leave.
Why should someone continue to get 25% of the touring money, when they have decided to leave the band in the middle of a tour.
NO-ONE continues getting paid once they quit a job. And it's selfish arrogance to expect as much.
This interview is heavily slanted to favor Def Leppard. We never heard about their addiction issues like we did Crue's.
Motley Crue with Warrant was my firstl concert in 1989. I have seen them 8 times. Def Leppard 4 times
Hi Steve you got me beat, saw Crue three times and Leppard once. In the round on Hysteria tour.
@@kja9881 at least you got to see Steve Clark on the Hysteria tour. I never did.
it's so stupid that RUclips won't allow music in the background as it's not someone else's
Nikki Sixx once said " I hope we bow out gracefully." He said that in the mid 90s. They haven't, and judging by this interview, they probably never will.
Def Leppard and Motley Crue of the 80's was when they were best.
I love both Def Leppard and The Crue, but Def Lep is the very first rock band that got me into hard rock at the age of 5 (1983) and will always remain my favorite rock band! Motley Crue were the second rock band years later that really took me into other rock and even heavy metal groups, here I am 40 years later loving hard rock and heavy metal!
I love Def Leppard... but even they don't like being called a "heavy metal" act. They're a rock band, yes, but more pop.
Someone came up with the term “pop metal” in the 80s (Circus magazine, I think) and the band said they were fine with it. But yeah, more pop-friendly than heavy metal like Metallica.
First Crue concert was also my first concert ever as a sophomore in HS. They opened for Ozzy at the MSG. First Def Lep show was at the old in Brendan Byrne arena in NJ with Tesla opening for them on the Hysteria tour. Went to so many hard rock/metal concerts in the 80’s In those two arenas. What a time it was!
Great interview, thanks Tara, and hi from Texas, USA.
1:43 wow 46 years that’s crazy keep it up guys you rock 🤘😊
I wouldn't classify Def Leppard as Heavy Metal, but more of Classic Rock. They are my favorite band and I have seen them live many times since 1988. Thry are still as good now as they were then and I'm not kidding, they slay. I brought both my daughters to see them for their first concert and they both love them. I even brought our chinese exchange teacher to see them in 1997! She said it was the best release of emotion she had ever experienced...she didn't know any if the words but she didn't care!

Without Mick Mars Motley Crue is not going to be the same. But I guess the same thing could be said about Def Leppard their sound changed when Steve Clark died.
Mick Mars is the genius of Motley Crue. Steve Clark may he rest in peace. Vivian Campbell is a great guitarist in his own right.
Just remember it wasn't completely all Steve. Listen to this song and tell me if you hear a familiar 'Leppy' tone. That's Pete Willis playing on the song.
ruclips.net/video/ooCn3gksO0k/видео.html
Actually their ‘sound’ changed more from Pyromania to Hysteria (Rick losing his arm) than Hysteria to Adrenalize (losing Clark). Either way, they kept pushing forward and it’s paid off.
She seems really thrilled about doing this report
I like Def Leppard's music.
