I could listen to this LEGEND talk about the history of disc golf and Innova forever. I hope the people at Innova are interviewing Dave weekly asking him questions and just letting him tell stories. There needs to be a documentary about Dave and Innova... please 🙏!
That was awesome, me my son and grandson have just taken up disc golf, nothing big where we live, just a nine hole putting course with lots of trees, and our first innova discs arrive on Monday, can’t wait to try them out👍
I absolutely LOVE Dave Dunipace. He is the single greatest disc golf grandpa haha It would be an honor to meet him someday. I’ve chatted with Leonard Muse for a while about Dave specifically, so hopefully in the future I’ll find him somewhere.
I wish I could give this 10 thumbs up. This is a hugely important part of disc golf history and needs to be captured for future disc golfers. Thank you, Dave and Innova for posting this.
Dave Dunipace is the OG, the godfather, the Dr Dre of disc. He created EVERYTHING. beveled edge, purpose discs, immaculate design. a true visionary. Insight and determination. #1 in disc golf.
Dave is basically the Jake Burton of disc golf: Massively improved the technology of a niche game, met with resistance along the way, but eventually became the father of the modern sport we know today and who we all are forever grateful for.
We just threw medium size heavy weight WHAMO pizza boxes at 4x4 posts, the game was low, slide them in upside down. I never quite liked the awkward contortions one went through to toss-in, float-in a longer putt at an elevated basket. It would be harder to retrieve the discs, but I'd like to see a few baskets (top) flush with the ground, even if just for tournaments. TD's hang them, why not an old school basket tribute orientation? Some Spit-outs might find there way back.
@@rickbays1608 ‘pro troll’ should be the primary clue lol. I do have some old pat# innova discs with Dynamic Discs on them, the old school stamp company they used to be before it was a free for all.
My Bag is full of Innova and Discraft as the top two brands because they invented the modern sport of Disc Golf, Discraft has some of the first well made Frisbee like discs on the market that were more for performance then World Class that is now the 100 mold, The Sky Streak and Sky Styler and Innova made the Beveled edge disc. I have an old Lighting disc from 2005 a #2 Upshot on Prostyle becuse the XD was oop at the time had just become that and the Colt or XD+ had yet to be made.
Don't forget the Discraft Phantom, I won two prototypes in a long drive contest using one at their Co. picnic. Phantoms for a time, held the distance record in 84'
Innova made a mistake with the Cro 15 yrs ago. You would have sold a lot more if you marketed it as a stable putter. It's the size of a putter and slower than the labeled 5 speed. Beat in DX cros put like 3,3,0, 1.
How do I jump to the bit where he flames Discmania and explains why he’s ripped off all their molds? Also, who designed the Animal? Have they been sacked yet?
Dave is cutting and glueing frisbees together to create discs and all the other companies simply 3D print his models lol. When the pat# ran out it was sad for destroyer.
I don't know if you can have a humble mindset and at the same time have the determination and belief in yourself to do something the world has yet to see. And I don't think he came across as arrogant, he's confident and direct, but I know many view that as being arrogant.
Name dropping? Isn't that when a person elevates their own status by claiming association with a famous person. When Dave makes reference to a Frisbee founder its because they are contemporaries. It's the rest of us that mention Dave's name, that's a DROP. Example: one weekend in 1980, John Kirkland hosted Dave, Sean, and me, down in Del Mar, to teach us his patented 360° backhand distance drive, with Wham-O fourty molds. Dave, in my dealings, is humble and no name dropper. Unlike me.
Innova, just make a full length documentary about Innova already. I would sit through a 2-3 hour film about it all.
I would love to help make the biography or biopic/documentary of Dave dunipace. His story is incredible and enthralling

I couldn’t agree more! @innovadiscs you should interview Dave more !
100% yes!

I parked next to his Sienna at Glen Helen this past weekend not realizing it was Dave's car lol. super chill dude

Legend, I'd sit and watch anything and everything about the early days, the tests and trials, breakthroughs and failures.
Please more long format interviews. This is great!

don't you mean EZ?
I always love hearing older stories about the sport

Really important video from one of our founders! I hope more golfers get to see this and appreciate it. Thank you!
You should be proud, Dave! You are the real GOAT!
We need more videos from the him!
Man what I wouldn't do for one of them FIRST run eagles signed by that man right there!!!!
This is the best video in the history of the internet.
let's not get too carried away.
Your comment isn't even the best exaggeration in the history of the internet.
Awesome video! I started playing in 1990 at Pendleton King Park in Augusta GA. I have always thrown Innova.
Always will
I'd love to meet Dave. Thanks for sharing this information with us.

Thank you for these stories.
And that's why I love Innova!
Great stuff Thank you.
(I disc-covered dg in 1998, have only ever thrown Innova, 99%).
Ftw 🙌
Wow. Great video!
Make a full length film with him just talking about our sports history please
I've heard about those conversations in 83 from a local guy in my area.
The wellspring of all things disc golf.
I'm a proud owner of some prototypes with "DD" written on them -- enjoyed this vid very much. Thanks Dave.
Dynamic Discs?
@@protroll697 🤔 not sure if trolling...

Amazing !!
I was born march 20th 1983! Born to throw innova
how about Halo Glow Aero's ..two different glow colors? for 40th anniversary next year
In April of 1983 he started making Innova discs, I was born that same month. Coincidence? Yeah, probably.
so I’ll preface this buy saying I don’t throw discraft but I am from Michigan, and I do wonder where they fit into the story.
Please bring back the Monster, it is the best overstable disc of all time and has the most articulation when thrown overhand.
Lol "articulation"
Why use a fancy word if you don't know what it means?

I would love to see how you "weld" one disc to make something new.
🔥🏆
Please tell me we could win one of these

Maybe if the Cro is remarketed as an approach disc, it might find new favor. I have 1 in Champion plastic - it's a nice disc.

There was no 3d printing in 1983
Dave should be interviewed by Joe rogan
Wish he was a little more humble. Weird name-droppy vibe.
oh gawd you ppl are pathetic.
yeah legends are arrogant AF. Just listen to Kobe diss Shaq.
