17mm is waaaaay wider than what I'm used to shooting for Street Photography as I'm far more comfortable shooting at 50mm.

Nice vid mate. Im no master of Street but I'm a believer that getting real close with wide will make some real interesting photos. Its because the viewer knows from the perspective that the photographer was right in amongst it, not stood away. Its a hard thing to do but I enjoy that challenge as part of the creative process.... facing fears. 👍👍👍

Cheers, Steve. Getting that distortion from the wide angle certainly does create some great effects. For me the fact that I don't like getting up in people's personal space is in part what makes me favour the 50. It certainly was interesting shooting this wide on the streets though. That girl at the 5:00 mark did not look happy at all to have her photo taken - if looks could kill LOL That looks like another fantastic lens mate, really got some great results with it! Probably really a different feel doing street photography at such a wide angle - felt like it was half street and half architectural photography. I loved those two umbrella shots at 7:04 but especially the one at 7:22. Great video David, always enjoy the look around. Hope you are doing well, have a great rest of the week!

Shooting wide like this definitely isn't something I'd do a lot, I'm far more comfortable at 50mm so I can somewhat hide from looks like that lol
I wish the rain had started sooner because as soon as those cobbled streets started to shine and the umbrellas came out I started to get into it a bit more.

I’m finding that width of location is the main driver for lens choice. An extreme recent example was shooting in VERY dark/low light in narrow walkways (narrower than a regular alleyway). I needed something like this 17mm 1.4 so that I could frame in such tight quarters AND allow for as much light as possible in dead of night. I was using a 23mm f/2 and was forced to push my ISO to the maximum. That resulted in blurry, super underexposed shots. It appears that you are shooting in locations that give you the freedom to shoot longer lenses on street. I can understand why 17mm seems out of place for you.
I think personally that is a little too wide for me, plus I can’t be doing with manual exposure unless it’s for Landscape. Saying that, I have used my vintage Pentax lenses a couple of times for Street Photography but that was more for the look I got with them but you seemed to have made a good job of using it here David, some really nice images mate,

@@DavidFlowerOfficial Are you going to do an Astro video mate? Asking as it’s something I really want to try and I’m going to Anglesey for a week at the end of August, we’ve a cottage booked in a farm in the middle of nowhere so perfect to try Astro, none or very little light pollution
I'm not sure if I'll make an astro video. I've done a couple in the past and they're tricky to film and don't really do that great on the channel. If I get any images worth showing they'll likely appear as example photos in some other video and on Instagram 👍

I also prefer 35mm(50mm) and even 50mm(75mm) and the pancake lens 27mm(41mm) has now been my goto. I just bought this lens for 60 dollars used to take with me to Albania for my trip. So will be fun trying that out. Great video btw 🥳🙌
My Sigma 30mm (45) is the one I reach for most, but even with that I find myself cropping a lot of the time. Enjoy your trip and thanks for watching 🖖

I use 17-18mm focal length and 24mm for street photography.
To make the best out of a 17mm lens you have to be VERY close to your subjects, about 1-1.5m away.
This will make you shoot from INSIDE THE SCENE and not from the outside like you do with 35mm or 50mm lenses.
Shooting from close distance needs fast action, preferably from the hip, and the photos will be very dynamic and interesting.
You should try this next time 🙂
I’ve come to realise that shooting wide and close isn’t something I enjoy both in terms of the process and the results so I focus more on the focal lengths that get me the images I want and stick to shooting at 50-135mm🖖

Hmmmm that 17mm would be an attractive proposition on Micro 4/3 with a field of view similar to a 34mm. It's nice and tiny too - I have a 10mm Samyang that's a great lens, but it's positively gargantuan and you could never be discreet with that on the camera. I liked the change in style using a wider lens too, definitely produced a different set of shots. Umbrella anyone........
Yeah I've been looking at these lenses with micro 4/3 in mind especially the 50mm f1.2😁
I'm incredibly jealous of all the rainy umbrella shots you see from like Tokyo etc. It's not something we see much here given the fact that the second it rains it's almost always accompanied by wind that's strong enough to collapse the damned things😂
@@DavidFlowerOfficial That's a good point, those lovely umbrella shots are always somewhere else, where everyone is elegant and the streets look beautiful etc etc - I guess the UK version could be quite amusing!!!

Have you corrected the images for distortion or are they straight out of camera?
These are straight out of camera in terms of lens correction simply because lightroom has no profile for this lens and I didn't want to go through all the images and adjust them manually. Thanks for watching 🖖
David how do you find the manual focusing on such vintage lenses?.
These TTartisan lenses are modern manual lenses and both the aperture and focus rings are super smooth. On the trio I have (17, 35, 50mm) the entire middle portion of the lens is the focus ring so they're actually way easier to focus than say my Helios or CZ Jena lens which have smaller focus rings.
