Wow it’s great to see Dave Chapelle’s Tyrone Biggums character really cleaned up his act and got his life together to become an awesome street photography. 🙏
@@WestCoast4L1f3 it makes sense, Tyrone would’ve spent a lot of time walking (running) on the streets. No doubt he would’ve see a lot of things that captured his attention.
What the professor said about shooting in NYC is the same here in DC. Cameras are so ubiquitous around here because of tourists that nobody notices you when you're shooting which makes for some tremendous freedom. That said, I like to be unobtrusive as well, so I'll usually shoot my street photography with the 135 GM so I can keep a distance, which IMO lends to more candid shots of people living their lives which is what I'm usually going for in my photography. When I want to shoot manual, my 50mm Super-Takumar f/1.4 is my go-to or a helios 44-2 58mm f/2 for some character.
The two of you are the dynamic duo! I have picked up so much to help me with my photography from each of you individually and when you work in collaboration sharing your knowledge. I can’t wait for the course to drop at the end of the month!
I must say this was the video I needed. I just came from a pretty rough photowalk weekend with my buddy. I had many shots planned in my head, forseen the frame and yet I missed by a 1mm. From this video I take solace in the fact things happen and we must feel content with them. Thank you!
"Go out, try everthing for youself, and see what works for you, what do you like in your pictures, and what do you feel is a hundred percent you, cuz at the end of the day, you have to be happy with your art."
This is the collaboration that we love and wanted. So fantastic. Also I hope we get a segment on my brother shooting with my favorite street photography lens the mighty mighty zeiss batis 40mm. #ThatCreativeLife
He's absolutely right about manual lenses. I'm in NYC too.. and the prospect of giving up autofocus is extremely daunting here. But I swear, once you do it, it's like The Matrix haha. You simply cannot observe in real time or you miss every single shot. It puts you in this flow state that kinda feels like playing a game on hard mode? Any shot you want is there. Nearly any shot is possible since cameras and lenses are insane now. It's just on you to step into this puzzle of momentary interactions and find the spot where you're the solution. It's thrilling for sure. I've got a few vintage lenses too. You know, because just manual is too easy right? 😂 Great video. Can't wait to see what you and the professor are cooking up next 🤘
Hey buddy, just meet you at MBS Singapore if you still remember 😜. Usually I don't remember faces but I saw you and straight away recognise you. It was a very pleasant surprise. I hope you enjoy your time in Singapore.
I like to mix manual and autofucs myself too. Though with gm lenses its strong ngl, but with third party I ussualy use manual focus evem though they are not bad but honestly I need uber good autofocus
Thank you for this great video and the inspiration it gave to me. The only problem: I‘m located in Germany, even if it’s „just“ a long haul flight distance, it‘s to far away for just a photo trip ☹️ But I guess next year the time will be again 😎
I didnt know Potato Jet and Dave Chappelle got together to start a photography youtube channel. lol, all jokes aside wonderful video guys. Loads of good nuggets here.
Since i started photography as a hobbie completely changed my life... i go out way more meet new people... before i was allways in my room introvert...
I like your style. I just got into street photography and I’m on the shy side. Plus I don’t want people making eye contact with the camera since I want it to be natural. The hardest part for me is when slutty dressed girls are in the area. There is always the sense that I’m a pervert taking their photos even though I have no interest in taking their photo because I don’t find them interesting in a photography way. Although with how big a narcissists people are today, they would probably like it. Thank’s for the video.
I’m thinking of getting into street photography & can’t decide between gr 3x or Sony Zv 1. Since I’ve hade a stroke I can only use my right hand. What would choose.
The last tip just rationalised my recent investment I made for my first manual lens. What a coincidence, and such a motivation for me to keep shooting manual.
Telling a story about a mediocre picture doesn't make it art. "That's when I realized that the dog was going to crap on the sidewalk... so I waited, and positioned myself so the both the sun and a random boot were also in the picture... and after a few minutes the dog crapped on the sidewalk, and I got the shot!"
How do you take photos on silent mode/electronic shutter at a high shutter speed while preventing banding from indoor lighting/LED lights that flickers?
I'm not a lawyer so double check, but I think that one doesn't need a model release for a photo unless one is selling the photo to advertise a third party product. For instance, if one is doing artistic photography even if one is selling it no model release is required but if one is using the photograph to advertise for automobiles, a soft drink, etc. I think that is when one needs a model release.
Are you guys gonna talk in the Guide about using old gear to do SP like old DSLR cameras with cheap lenses Well not everyone can buy the latest gear so it will be nice if you are going to talk about this topic too …. Thank you Peace out …
The equipment utilized is quite irrelevant honestly. Only difference is that I have newer capabilities with features in my cameras compared to older DSLR's, but my usage of manual lenses would be identical to vintage lenses for instance... my lenses are just newer. Regardless of the gear the concepts are the same for DSLR and older lenses as well.

This video was really worth watching, specially when it was said: do not follow or copy others trends/style!
All these photos are breathtaking!
Thank you 🥹
production on this video was A1+

I really can't understand how you and the professor can scare anyone on the streets. Every sane person will just smile seeing you!
🥺 So kind, thank you

I thought it's going to be another portrait type street photography video. Wasn't expecting this. Love the contents. The prof. is so versatile 👍🏼
Honestly, what stands out most to me about his photography is the editing. I would love an in depth video describing his editing approach!
We will go in depth on that in the ULTIMATE GUIDE TO STREET PHOTOGRAPHY!

Previsualization is the key to be the pro photographer while shooting street photography ⚡️
great experience sharing 😍😍
A prime lens that punches in like that is the best. Imagine being shy with a 16mm trying to get those shots
Great content as usual 👊🏾

its so easy to listen Professor Hines. Does he have a podcast?
Very kind, thank you. No, I do not have a Podcast.
Thanks Perfessor -- three very different modes for street photography -- and they're all good.

So at what megapixels is good for street photography?
love your videos
Does anyone know what camera he was using to shoot the picture of the people at the world trade center and framed it with the people's legs?
I know, it was the Sony Alpha 1. 😊
I think my next lens is going to be a 85 mm lens!
Nice 👍🏾
Tip #0: Move to NY :D
😂😭🙈
#NailedIt 😁

How do you take photos on silent mode/electronic shutter at a high shutter speed while preventing banding from indoor lighting/LED lights that flickers?
For that reason I never relied on silent mode. The Sony Alpha 1 is super quiet unlike my Alpha 9, allowing me to just keep in in mechanical.
Hey bro what is the best ND filter i can buy please
U zoom in the pic from the camera or pc?
Great!

Nice work I do the same in nyc

do you have to get model releases for the people in your photos?

A few times before I went full frame and only twice I believe since I've been on full frame.
