@@EWOODJ The funny/interesting thing is that both, Dr.Light and Dr.Wily were so ahead of their time that no one (even centuries later) has managed to _fully_ replicate X or Zero in terms of specs. So while X and Zero could be considered "outdated" in terms of age, they're _still_ superior.
Not me. Gameplay may have stunk bad (we're all in agreement there) but I still look forward to seeing Over-1 and Nero L in X Dive. I really hope we get another crossover game and Over-1 gets a proper do-over.
One of my best friends in the world is a huge Mega Man fan, so if I ever mention X, a waft of silence drenchs our conversation like snowfall, it's THAT BAD.
2 and 3 aren't bad though. I view the first three like the Back to the Future trilogy: the first one is so damn good that 2 and 3 get a pass lol. Granted, X is as close to a perfect game as you can get. It's hard to compete with that.
I liked X2 and actually think X4 and 5 were pretty good, though I never owned them, but X3 was a huge disappointment for me, mostly due to the incredibly uninspired level design. I think the real problem is that the entire X franchise peaked so hard with the original Megaman X.
I find it amusing Keiji took offense to Zero coming back again in X6. Like, I get that he planned to bring him back again, but it's not like he couldn't die again, he's practically a phoenix

@@murderofcrows9942 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain that the Zero series never gives a specific time period for when it takes place. What X game have bad soundtrack? Blaze heatnix has the worst level design in all MegaMan franchise yet his theme is one of the best. Capcom never disappoints with atmosphere
Not just that. X7's a TERRIBLE introduction for Axl and sets a poor example for what the character becomes down the line. Arguably, X8 and Command Mission are significantly better introductions to the character than X7 was. Command Mission just has him join the party as someone who's just another Hunter like X and Zero, who just has an amnesia problem and wants to find out who he is and where he comes from. Even though there's a massive issue re Command Mission's placement in the grand scheme of the timeline, it's still a far better introduction for Axl than X7 was. When I hear people are going through the X games in numerical order, I always just say skip X7, play Command Mission and then X8.

I kinda felt insulted when you decided to call Axl "the other guy", but i feel the game, while being a stinker, made X8 be the game that it ended up being. I enjoyed X8 alot.
The most baffling change I remember finding out when I replayed the game through the Legacy Collection, was that damage values for the special weapons were decreased in the US version compared to the Japanese version. For example, when fully charged, X's buster does roughly 16 damage in the Japanese version, while in the US version it does 12. And Sniper Missle does 12 damage in the Japanese version and 9 damage in the US version. Legit, played though the game with the Japanese version when I found that out, since it made the game more bearable
Flame Hyenard is one of those video gaming moments you encounter that you just can't forget. Forever locked in the depth of your memories never truly forgotten.
"an anti war game in which you barely play as the main character of the series and instead play as a new, younger character" This somehow fits megaman X7 and metal gear solid 2
I’d argue that the Raiden-Snake switcheroo was an intentional setup for the narrative theme of deconstruction. You start off as Snake, now in brilliant new graphic, and after a fun, brisk Tanker level that introduced new concepts (like the tranq gun) and new characters. Then you’re given Raiden, who barely looks old enough to drink, and comes off as a wannabe imitator (going through the same story beats of MGS1, but with significantly more vitriol thrown at Raiden). Hell, Raiden even tries to call himself Snake. Then the game REALLY starts...
I've been playing games for well over 30 years now, and this is legitimately one of the worst I've ever played. It was just a miserable experience all around. That said, I think I'm the only person in the world who really loved Command Mission.
Command Mission's fairly good; it just needs a upgraded/touch-up re-release that touches up some of the issues; mainly that abhorrent encounter rate. It did have best boy Massimo too.
You can actually get X by defeating all 8 mavericks as well. The whole "The main character is locked" thing is so ridiculous. Also, fun fact: All your attacks deal less damage in the US version than the Japanese version! I have no idea if this was fixed in the x collection however.
@Grima the Fell Dragon The Wii version had multiplayer for some reason. I remember being pretty good actually. On a side note, it's good to see fellow spectobes fans. All 3 of us.

If you take the fact that Thomas Light treats his creations like they are his children rather than things. This would make Mega man X Mega man's younger brother in the same way Proto man is Mega man's older brother due to when they were completed. sorry about the crumby grammer
You didn't really see a major dip in quality with the classic series as you did in X, unless you count Mega Man & Bass, which if you do, then yeah. Still somewhat fun to play if you play as Bass, but extremely questionable level design, since most levels were obviously balanced around Bass' control scheme, and not Mega Man's. And also no e-tanks, especially with how excruciatingly long the King and Wily levels were.
@@amso7169 I put it above X6 and X7 easily, though I admit it is likely buoyed by the fact that it was the very first X title I ever played and so I have an attachment to it. It intrigued and entertained me enough to get me invested in the series, and for me, that counts for something.
It's funny you say you stopped payin attention after X4 when X5 was in my opinion the most important entry before the drop off, as well as the best until X8.

@@GenyaArikado I know how you feel. But recently, it turned out that X DiVE is making a lot of money. Which means if the dev invested that money in Megaman franchise we will get a higher quality game.
X6 may have been a bland, boring mess that was way too difficult for it's own good (You couldn't even get into the first Sigma stage without a full set of new armor) but X7 more or less assaulted anyone who played it, be it visually with the awful camera and the 'lock on' doing whatever it wants, or audibly with all the bosses shouting nonsense at you the whole fight. Flame Hyenard is the worst but the other bosses aren't much better. Still kinda surprised we got any other Mega Man games after X7 burned to the ground.
Conceptually, X6’s story is really good; make the new main villain close to the main characters and reveal more about their past. It’s the execution in-game that brings it down, what with its poor translation and some other dumb story beats like bringing Sigma back at the very end. I’d argue X7 has the same exact problem; Axl is a really cool character, and making the villain of Red really close to him was also a novel concept. Plus, the Zero series proves that having an X that doesn’t fight and is tired of combat can actually make sense and work well with his character. In that series, he’s sort of a mentor figure and guardian angel for Zero and the other Resistance fighters; if he employed a similar role in X7, especially with Axl as a new recruit on the team, I think it could’ve worked really well. But of course, I think we all know how THAT turned out.
I disagree. X7 is more boring and the whole motif of X going pacifist is... just bad, but the plot overall is good, and the game is competently made. X6 on the other hand is rushed, has a lot of glitches, bullshit level design, unfair difficulty and bad plot. Although I like some choices in X6 the level design is killing it for me.
It's too bad x7 killed the attention anything afterwards would've been, x8 was pretty dam good and I remember initially not getting it on release because of the stink x7 left but after like maybe a few years I got x8 and realized how great it was
x5 technically had magma dragoon as a fight. x5 was almost the best, if they didn't have the dialogue interrupting everything all the time. The part system was a real hidden gem imo. The multiple armors added quite a bit.
@@MattMcMuscles he has potential X8 ALMOST made his copy transformation ability interesting but was gravely underutilized save for some Rare Metal locations Actually now that I think about X8 saved him from being useless and forgettable
One of the things I remember most from this game is that all of the Mavericks have unique pre-battle dialogue with the character you enter the fight with. Yes, this also includes X. I specificly remember that if you fight Tornado Tonion with X he tells X how all of Red Alert is being controlled by "The Professor" (who is unsurprisingly revealed to be Sigma later in the game) and kinda implies that he has no control of his own actions at this point. That also stood out the most for me in the game. Well the most aside from Flame Hynard's voice clips and the total arse that was the fight against Red.
@@Melkac I like RPGs so yes. It had a very interesting cast of characters, like Marino, Cinnamon, and Massimo. Especially Massimo, my favorite. Axl was a blue mage who could go invisible/invincible and use boss attacks.
@Rafa Mauricio If it's any consolation, I couldn't beat it for 6 years 'cause I didn't learn how to grind and the fire boss kept kicking my ass. Some people have "lead me into everlasting darkness" as their dreaded pre-boss cutscene, I have "Now, Duboar!" as mine.

Searches were done in and out of incognito mode. Yet, I still cannot find anything remotely in line with what you are saying.
If you could please provide me with a source of your claims as an actual contributing factor for cancellation, I would be more than happy to check it out. A simple article headline should suffice. I am always willing to learn more.
As a matter of fact, I have found several articles stating what could be perceived as the exact opposite. That LACK of involvement in the dev room by fans was a reason.
From an official Capcom of Europe representative:
"it's a shame the fans didn't want to get more involved if we saw there was an audience for MML3 people might change minds"
Later update:
"yes that was a flippant answer, it was a shame lots of people didn't get involved in Dev room to devleop the game was my point
I said it was "a shame more fans didn't want to get more involved" when discussing our Dev rooms = Blaming Capcom
Thats not blaming the fans thats expressing dissapointment in something we did
Apologies again. The original comment was in relation to the interaction in the Dev rooms NOT the fans who have been nothing but supportive
140 characters is not easy to explain all the detail people want"
Source: Nintendolife
Then there's this:
"As the composer of that tweet eventually tried to explain, the remark was intended to be a lament that the Devroom didn't achieve its aims as a marketing tool, not that the fans of the game were somehow responsible for the cancellation of the game. In any case, it obviously didn't come out that way, and the backpedaling was evidently too little too late.
Incidentally, the Devroom was never meant to serve as a primary gauge of "marketability" or whatever--we knew this was hardcore stuff. But it bears noting that the Pan-Western Devroom was US-led and Europe's involvement was secondary, so I would chalk that sentiment up to that one individual's misconception of the project, or else just poor wording."

For full transparency here. I do not think the 2 Mega Man Legends games have held up game play wise. And I am a very surface level Mega Man fan. So I have only a surface level investment in the series. So trust me, this is not me defending a franchise I am passionate about.
Weird to think that there was a time where people were sick of Megaman games
If you actually played Megaman X4, then right after X5 X6 and X7 it's very obvious why.
And now X9 looks more and more like the Megaman equivalent to Halflife 3...
In the spawn of the entire decade of the 2000's, we got:
Megaman Zero 1 to 4
Megaman Battle Network 1 to 6
Megaman ZX 1 and 2
Megaman X7 an X8
Look, I love the Zero and Battle Network sagas, but to the outsider viewer it looks like milking the cow as much as possible
@@shotgunjustice9605 There was also Mega Man Star Force 1 to 3 as well as two remake games (Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X) too.
Believe it or not, there was a time when people were sick of Resident Evil games too. Capcom has a tendency of finding any successful franchise and oversaturating the market with new games until nobody cares anymore.
everybody memes flame hyenard but i swear the 'best' voice acting in the game is sigma because he consistently sounds like hes just invited you to his annual maverick barbeque and is very very happy you could make it
He's like goofy Dr. Claw, which is... almost cool in a way?
I can imagine him welcoming the hunters while grilling some hyenard burgers.
X8 was good but no X9 then I was like why X8 didn't spawn a sequel...then I finally played X7.
"New younger hero!"
"Sir. These are robots and X looks like he hasn't hit his teens yet."
"BUT DOES HE HAVE HAIR?!"
"Sir. You're a genius."
Correction
"BUT DOES HE HAVE A GUN?!"
That's something I don't get. These characters are literally timeless because they're robots. They can't age.
It’s just that later made robots tend to be more advanced. Making older robots feel outdated in comparison. Thus younger.
tbf X8 expanded upon that idea with the new generation reploids

The funny/interesting thing is that both, Dr.Light and Dr.Wily were so ahead of their time that no one (even centuries later) has managed to _fully_ replicate X or Zero in terms of specs.
So while X and Zero could be considered "outdated" in terms of age, they're _still_ superior.
Mentioning X-Over literally sent me into shock. I swear, everyone is in group denial that that thing ever existed
X1 and x4 are good at least
Half the series is kinda shit though, yeah
2 and 3 aren't bad though. I view the first three like the Back to the Future trilogy: the first one is so damn good that 2 and 3 get a pass lol. Granted, X is as close to a perfect game as you can get. It's hard to compete with that.
X8 is underated.
Dude Megaman X2 and X3 are great.
Wow just about pissed myself at the flame hyenard bit...

To me, Command Mission and X8 saved Axl's character.

@@murderofcrows9942 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain that the Zero series never gives a specific time period for when it takes place. It only says it's set 100 years after the Elf Wars, which also aren't given a specific date.
In other words, Command mission doesn't contradict the timeline, it just pushes the Inti games further into the setting's future.
I keep forgetting X-Over even existed. That thing died so fast, never to be seen again, it's it made a new world record.

Well half of it anyway. The other half I feel is too generic
Agree with the previous comment.
Only some of them are freaking good while the rest are bleh. My favorite tracks gotta be Zero's opening stage and Flame Hyenard's stage
Considering that this is Megaman X we are talking about here having a good soundtrack is a basic requirement and not a stand out thing. Even the best soundtrack can't save a shitty game.
What X game have bad soundtrack?

Poor Axl. Another character punished by the "Good Character introduced in a Bad Game" curse.
I'll stand by that
Well, Nero and Raiden had luck.
We can add silver too, right?
@@ridgenyan-botxv367 honestly, Silver was the other character on my mind
@@wingedswordslayer I mean, even if he's just a genki type boy, he's still good. I like his character and 7 did him dirty. I love how Megaman X got more and more shafted to the side in his on series
"an anti war game in which you barely play as the main character of the series and instead play as a new, younger character"
This somehow fits megaman X7 and metal gear solid 2
I’d argue that the Raiden-Snake switcheroo was an intentional setup for the narrative theme of deconstruction. You start off as Snake, now in brilliant new graphic, and after a fun, brisk Tanker level that introduced new concepts (like the tranq gun) and new characters.
Then you’re given Raiden, who barely looks old enough to drink, and comes off as a wannabe imitator (going through the same story beats of MGS1, but with significantly more vitriol thrown at Raiden). Hell, Raiden even tries to call himself Snake.
Then the game REALLY starts...
At least MGS2 found a way to make it work.
I'm still waiting for X's comback
The big new mega man project Capcom is hinting at is probably X9.
I've been playing games for well over 30 years now, and this is legitimately one of the worst I've ever played. It was just a miserable experience all around. That said, I think I'm the only person in the world who really loved Command Mission.

You can actually get X by defeating all 8 mavericks as well. The whole "The main character is locked" thing is so ridiculous.

Yes. I do remember flame hyenard . you could say he's BURNED into my memories.
Alas poor megaman, we barely knew thee
It's too bad x7 killed the attention anything afterwards would've been, x8 was pretty dam good and I remember initially not getting it on release because of the stink x7 left but after like maybe a few years I got x8 and realized how great it was
x5 technically had magma dragoon as a fight.
x5 was almost the best, if they didn't have the dialogue interrupting everything all the time. The part system was a real hidden gem imo. The multiple armors added quite a bit.
