Maybe if Capcom hadn’t been so tight lipped about Inafune’s hand in Capcom’s problems during the late 00’s, perhaps Mighty Number 9 might not have had such a massive successful funding period leading to the cursed development period. Little something to be said for a bit of openness to the people who are supposed to buy their games.
Matt. There was rumor that Capcom took the remains of the Legends 3 prototype and made it into E.X. Troopers. So yeah, to add a just a bit more salt into the knife wound, Capcom executives had more faith in a Lost Planet spin-off than highly requested Megaman sequel.
@@ligtningdog6399 I believe that as well. Some people claim it’s not, that “the strong sales of the Legacy Collection warranted a new game” (another case of the Capcom Test, by now we were all aware of the pettiness of such a thing). I was a teenager in the middle of this game's development, and this was the first time I felt legitimately let down by a gaming company. Now that feeling happens every other Tuesday, but the first time still stings.
You never forget your first time... _cries in Armada of the Damned_ But especially when it's something of MML3's status. I wasn't even a huge MM fan growing up and even _I_ still feel my stomach turn to knots when I remember this cancellation.
A teenager? I grew up with these games when they were brand new on PS1. Imagine how those fans felt as they heard the news of it being canceled. This is like Square announcing that the FFVII Remake has been canceled. It was that bad!
@@mariokarter13 But we still always manage to hear about it Or worse Games ARE released instead of cancelled, but in terrible states that end up killing an IP's entire reputation
The worst thing about the "So few fans took part" tweet and the whole reasoning behind it to me is that Capcom released a Devroom trailer where it stated, and I quote, "Of course, it's okay to hang back and just watch, too!". If you're that dependent on engagement to keep the project going, maybe don't tell people in a trailer that they don't need to engage with it..?
Pretty much this. I remember when we would try to engage and our post would get ignore, so people pretty much said, "well, we'll just wait and see what they are developing before we can comment on anything". Its like what did they expect if no one responds and there were no reveals, so the fans were like, lets just wait patiently for them to develop the game like every other game in the industry.
Geeze if I had known that "Watching patiently in the back for progress on the game" was actively detrimental to the success of the game, I would have been more active on it. I took that quote to heart and thought it was okay. They lied to us! I guess keeping a fan-base engaged for months or years on end would be an insurmountably tall order to maintain, but even then, I still would have tried if it meant the success of the game.
I don't particularly think having that message there or not would have helped or hindered the dev room. Lots of people probably would have hung back not sure how to participate or even if they wanted to participate at all. I was aware of thedev room, but I wasn't really sure how I could contribute to something that I admit didn't have much of an attachment to as I had played very little of the Megaman Legends games, but I did keep an eye on it.
@@TheShuuman The absence or presence of the message probably wouldn't change much per se, but making it say the exact opposite and encouraging actual activity probably would've kept it alive a little longer at the very least. That said, I wasn't around so it's not like I could really say much, but even if I was I'd probably be in the same situation as you. '^^

Fun fact: we had an Easter Egg where you could find and unlock MegaMan-X in Strider 2014. We were approved by Capcom, but then at the last second we were told no and given no reason.
@@MegamanNG honestly, they only gave us Strider as a "favor", for having cancelled other projects, otherwise I doubt they would've even revived Hiryu... if only temporarily.

You forgot to mention that just a few weeks after cancelling MML3, a Bandai Namco studio, known as Cyber Connect (developers behind .Hack and Asura's Wrath) wanted to pick up this project from where the Devroom left it and make it a reality, but Capcom said no
I don't mean any offense, this is just a general question. What has Cyber Connect ever even done other than .hack and, as I just learned, Asura's Wrath? Or are you referring to the .hack GU collection? Should that be avoided?? I've been meaning to play it, but, I keep getting overwhelmed by how much there is in there...
@@ZERO9098767 Dunno about Last Recode, been eyeing that one myself, but I had some good fun with the original GU trilogy. Pretty fun for fairly simple (re: not character action, nor even God of War really) action JRPGs. Not quite sure what Patziken is referring to, though now I'm curious too, if only to know.
Honestly, it sounds like it was mostly down to politics more than anything. It feels like someone at Capcom was not happy about the fact that Inafune left and wanted to bury all the major IPs associated with him.
Oh god I forgot I drew that icon for Gregaman forever ago. Its ancient history, but I did it because the official artists wouldn't make one for him like they were for the Japanese branch of the site at the time. I felt honored he used it because I wasn't very good at drawing at the time. Now my terrible art is plastered all over Matt's video too lol. Megaman Legends was always a huge part of my life, and one of my favorite games. I was so excited fans could be involved in things. Unfortunately If you want a little truth from someone that was apart of that community. A large reason why drop off from fans was so sharp was that input from the western side of the community wasn't ever considered like it was on the Japanese specific community. We were never really a part of the project like they were, and people quickly became disappointed and started leaving in droves. In the end most of the western community had given up on having any amount of input or effect on the project and would just pop in now and then to see if any news was updated.
As a person who also struggles with art i must say that your drawing has a lot of personality and i like it. It was very nice of you to draw a avatar for him!
Oh wow, nice to find ya here. Yeah, that's pretty much what most of us were doing in checking for updates with the project. Had we known it was that vital to development, could have been on that site every day.
Sad to see that happened to you man It can't be easy to try to have an input on something you love and just get rejected without even being given a fair chance.
Yeah, I remember that too. Probably not worth reuploading the video for, but that was the major reason why people were leaving, because the vote for the girl (Aero) was weighed much more heavily on the Japanese side and the Western choice was passed over. I think that Capcom was also afraid because they had accidentally exposed parts of their development like that example that they didn't want to be judged over. As positive as Gregaman's statement tries to be, I think what Capcom took away from that, and other lessons over the years, is to double down on their conservative approach and only test one or two new things a decade, and then keep making them a few more times to milk that idea as hard as it can (see resident evil 7/8/9 trilogy) and then dumping it in the trash for the next thing. All they want is blockbuster cash cows and there's no room for anything else.
This, absolutely this. I remember contributing concept art and even ideas on how to streamline some of the early levels/dungeons since I had experience in modeling. It got so bad that they wouldn’t even let me post anything so I eventually gave up.
The line about "Warning Signs" is peak writing. I wasnt ready for it, and it just struck a cord with me. Keep it up you genius bastard, I love these videos.

That said, Inti has been keeping the flame alive for me even though it's not quite the same thing, and they certainly don't scratch the Megaman Legends itch specifically.
Surprised there was no mention of the "Get Me Off The Moon" group that was formed post-cancellation. Sure it was made BY fans, FOR fans. But we still gathered together to mourn the loss of our one wish.

This cancelation really hurt. I grew up on ps1 era Mega Man and I'm still holding out hope someday for more Legends style experiences from the indie scene.
The announcement of this game got me to purchase a 3ds in the first place, I wanted the next game that bad. I love Megaman and seeing this and all those other Megaman games cancelled during that time, some of which we are only recently finding out about like Megaman Star force 4, is heartbreaking. I bought a 3DS when the Legends 3 demo was announced. When the demo was canceled, I thought my purchase was a waste, but then Animal Crossing New Leaf, Kid Icarus Uprising, and later Ace Attorney 5 and Bravely Default came out, so I was happy in the end. Still, it's sad to see what could have been.
Oof, this might be the first What Happened? on something I was personally following, invested in, and devastated by. This felt like a tragedy at the time.
I just can't help but think about the giant Irony Pretzel that is: -Capcom using an online dev forum to garner fan support for Legends 3, and it ultimately not living up to the litmus test that Capcom had apparently set for it, and that the fans were never warned about. -Inafune, after having left Capcom, would go on to use Kickstarter on his own only a few years later for Mighty No. 9, and gain a massive initial surge of fan support...only to completely squander that surge, leading to the product we got. -Further attempts by Inafune to try to recover some of that Legends goodwill through Red Ash were also similarly floundering and poorly planned, leading to that not going anywhere either. Like, imagine if something like Kickstarter or Patreon had been around a few years earlier, proving that sort of crowd-based support experiment could work if done correctly, Legends 3 might have ended up in a very different place.
Seeing the profile pictures of the devs from the devroom brought back so many memories. I was there when users in the devroom were showing off ideas, discuss about Megaman and even do random things to have fun like the rp channels. It was a fun rollercoaster ride until the cancellation. It was fun while it lasted back in the day.

This was a very good breakdown of Capcom's operations and the general environment around the game's production at the time. You did a great job with the video. This one needed to be made, especially because Legends 3 still hurts to talk about sometimes. Keep up the good work!
And Capcom still blamed the fans for the cancellation, despite this was in demand by fans since 2001. Yet most people don't want 7,432 versions of street fighter or that emo may cry game that ninja theory made. At least we got MM11 and DMC5 years later though.

I played the first two Legends games at the start of this year to get a sense of what this game might’ve been. Despite their clunky controls and camera, they had a lot of charm and character. Losing this still hurts.
One thing to remember is that MegaMan Legends 1 came out in 1997, almost a year BEFORE Ocarina of Time. So MML couldn't just copy what OOT did, like a lot of future action-adventure games would, but had to invent a lot of gameplay concepts and lay the foundations for the genre itself. It wouldn't surprise me if MML effected OOT's design and development in some way, which is cool to consider. Plus, MML's quasi-anime style is timeless, and much more expressive and visually pleasing than most of the low-poly 3D from the '90s.

I was thinking about Metroid Dread finally coming out last year after almost 10 years of being "cancelled," and I've been given a tiny shred of hope for some of these cancelled Mega Man games. IF there is going to be a new Mega Man game anytime soon, a MM12 would be great, but I'm really interested in a ZX3 or Legends 3 happening. Would be so cool, even if it's a pretty unrealistic hope.
The next Mega Man game has been confirmed to be in development by the new head of the series, and there was a leak saying that a game called "Rockman Taisen" is getting released Q3 of this year.
At this point I would imagine that any hope Legends has would be a remake of some sort. The amount of new gamers who dont know the story and history of the series is more than ever.
Man, I still remember watching the trailer for upcoming 3DS games on the Wii's Nintendo Channel, and seeing a clip for "Mega Man Legends 3". Even though I had only played the first game on N64 I was thrilled because I adored it. Volnutt was my favorite Mega Man, even bought Tatsunoko vs Capcom because he (and Viewtiful Joe) were on the cover. I pre-ordered a 3DS as soon as I got a chance and picked it up at launch... Only to later find Capcom had canned the game out of "lack of fan interest". Still holding onto the silver lining that at LEAST when Legends 3 eventually does get picked back up, it'll have to be on a much grander scale than the 3DS would've allowed for. Still would've rather had it though...
I was way too young to be seriously participating in the devroom at the time, but even then I understood just what a terrible PR disaster it was for that tweet to get out. I....can't really say that Capcom's learned from it. I was part of that dev room, even submitted art for a boss design contest for it. Even at the time, it was apparent to me that the whole thing was a hail mary, a desperate attempt by inafune to circumvent the usual process of getting a project greenlit by involving fans directly. This could be gleamed much by Inafune's own words and sentiments publicly available at the time. But like this video states, even if we assumed it, we were never outright told exactly how much weight the dev room held to the greenlighting of the game and we all were basically assured the prototype demo is what its development would hinge on, and we never even got to download it. The cancellation hurt because the active members of that dev room were the audience for Megaman and it just felt like watching our favorite franchise get shot dead in front of us after doing everything we were told to do to keep it alive. Even if it was canceled, at LEAST being able to play something that was teased at with footage of it online would have made the cancelation just a tad bit less cut throat. If this prototype ever somehow leaks online, I think this would be the greatest thing to ever happen to the Legends fan base and we'd likely accept the death of this series a lot more.

There were likely tens of thousands like me who werent diehard Legends fans but were interested in the project since it looked interesting that wouldve taken part in the Devroom forum if they even knew it existed. Thousands more who wouldve downloaded the Prototype. Knowing that the 3DS was eventually a success makes the cancellation even dumber in hindsight. There was also a Nintendo Power interview and demo discussion in Nintendo Power long ago that’s worth checking out. Considering the article came out just a short time before the game got cancelled, the staff at the magazine was very sad.
A proper "Capcom Test" like that might actually produce the results they wanted. That is to say, accurately gauging player interest in seeing more of the series. It's kind of unfortunate that the devroom was the Capcom test we got because there was just no way it was ever going to succeed that way.
Great video Matt! 2010-2011 was a brutal time for megaman fans and this is the most tragic loss for many fans of megaman legends who waited so long to see a continuation of the series and was given hope to finally get megaman off the moon. However, that "hope" was a false one after so severe trouble behind the scenes that grew into despair after the cancellation of legends 3 and the tragic fallout afterwards. It's 2022 with capcom gaining traction with some of their franchises but megaman however, despite the release of 11, is still in the dark ages to this day and poor megaman is still trapped on the moon. This is one gut punch no one wanted and still hurts to this day. 😔
Almost over 10 whole years past since the cancellation of MML3 Project and still pains me to this very day. Legends 3 was one of the sole reasons i even got the og 2011 3DS in the first place. At this point, if Capcom ever decides to grow a pair, maybe they should remake Legends 1 & 2 + the Tron Bonne game, to see if there is any potential to finally continue the Legends subseries, then maybe we could after that see a rebooted Legends 3 project once more in development.
I remember reading somewhere someone from a gaming magazine (can't remember which one) actually got to play the prototype and apparently quite enjoyed was genuinely surprised they didn't at least release the prototype. Would have been nice to at least get the prototype if nothing else.
This cancellation still hurts so much, even after all these years. The pain will never go away. Something I never understood is why they didn't just release the prototype, at the very least. Pretty sure that thing was complete or at least very, VERY close to being complete and playable. I feel like they would have lost way less money releasing a nearly completed prototype than they did by not releasing it. They surely suffered a major loss by developing so much of something that ultimately never saw release.
I had a good friend who basically ragequit Capcom games because of this. No joke. I think it especially was that bit with the "unfortunately, so few fans took part in the creation of the game" bit that twisted the knife the hardest for him. Thank you for this series. On the topic of episode suggestions, I want to vouch for a potential episode on the first *Metal Slug* The game shipped as a bonafied classic, but behind the scenes the development was a mess: from the fact that the team had recently disbanded from Irem, to the elusive prototype that was met with a cold reception and led to major gameplay changes. All in all, I think it would make for a great video topic, but I may be biased as a huge fan of the series :)
Considering it’s one of the best arcade games of all time and has some of the most overly detailed sprites of all time, it’s well deserved to be biased for Metal Slug. I just which they’d rerelease the collection on Switch and other modern consoles.
It's been over a decade, and I am still salty about it. Mega Man Legends isn't my favorite video game series, but it is by far the series I want a sequel to the most. Sure, other games have ended on unresolved cliff hangers (ie Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood), but the Legends series holds a special place in my heart due to its charm and nostalgia.
I just beat MML 1&2 last year, and there is a hole in my heart for MML3. I legitimately believe that with newer game design, another game in the series could be incredible. One simple update to the controls, and these games are already 10/10 to me.
This episode hurt to watch. I was actually at the announcement and preview at NY Comic-Con. I along with throngs of hardcore fans went totally insane seeing what was constructed up till that point. We were dying and wanted more! Reading the announcement Infaune's departure and cancellation of Mega Man Universe & Legends was just soul crushing for all of us. I am grateful to have met Inafune and have him autograph my Mega Man Universe & Legends 3 posters. Hopefully someday we'll get that sequel and conclusion to Legends.
This is all that comes to mind when Mega Man Legends is mentioned. Love and peace are lies, God is dead, and we’re all totally fucked! A quote from Boomstick on Volnutt’s situation.
Mega Man Legends is such a treasured game from my childhood. The characters, art design, gameplay, music, etc. was and still is super charming! I was lucky enough to find both games in person way back when! (Legends 1 brand new at a drug store, and 2 was used for $20 at Hollywood Video's Game Crazy)
Let's give credit where credit is due: Capcom Europe had the heart to tell us about at least a potential reason for why it didn't go through. (Although somewhat misworded and a truth so harsh it's stupid but sadly out of their jurisdiction) While the other two divisions were just dead silent.
I still remember hearing about every single one of those getting canceled. It was certainly a rough year/several years for Capcom fans at that point in time.
I was about 17 and didn't have a DS or 3DS. I was so ready to save up for a 3DS just for that single game. I participated in the devrooms but because there was just so much clutter I wasn't very inclined to visit as much. Still bummed about it and hopefully one day we'll get a resolution to the cliffhanger.
I was actually watching the trailer they released for this game yesterday... Imagining the afternoons I would waste playin it. Thanks for covering this!
The mention of Metroid Prime 4 just makes me all the more excited for not only the game but also the almost certainly inevitable Wha Happun episode on it.
I own an issue of Nintendo Power that talked about Mega Man Legends 3 and how it was taking fan submissions for character designs. I really liked how involved the game’s development was with the fanbase. It’s such a shame it was cancelled.
I LITERALLY got a 3DS for this game, I really do hope someday it gets another chance, I know current MM director has mentioned it in passing, good to know it isn't COMPLETELY forgotten.

I spent some time in the devroom, voted in all the polls, and when that tweet happened it felt like a huge slap in the face. I get now WHY that tweet was made, but wow, still stings. I miss MML so much, and while I feel little hope that the franchise will ever return - or even get a Legacy Collection of its own, I'm glad it's inspired some cool indie devs to work on interesting projects, such as Delta-Gal and Fermata on the Pithos. Seeing as Capcom is doing well with Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6, they need to bring back Mega Man Legends 3. One thing they should obviously do, make the game with the RE Engine.
One thing about the cancellation's backlash I remember reading about was that mere days later Capcom hosted a livestream for some other upcoming game, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom I think? And since it was so soon afterwards the stream's chat naturally became flooded with people furious about Legends' cancellation, and apparently the hosts got so tired of users chanting for Legends 3 that they just up and _ended_ the stream in the middle of it.
Oddly enough, I recall that before the Devroom happened, there was already a community for Megaman Legends 3 and we were getting concept art and discussions going on then back in 2008. I was in that original group and contributed to polls and even recall having a really low servbot number, somewhere in the 300s. Wish I still had my servbot badge from then. I also remember discussing with some members about Volnutt's armor changes and Aero was nothing more than a rough sketch at the time. The reason I recall this very well was because my dad passed away 2 years prior and this was the best coping mechanism I had before moving addresses in late 2008. It's odd though that the discussions of years prior didn't show up in the Devroom which, I would have assumed, was archived in it somewhere. Either way, this brought back a lot of memories and literally me sitting in front of the PC 6 hours each day to monitor and new posts and discussions about ML3's development. Depression sure has an odd way of pushing you to do things you wouldn't normally be able to do sometimes.
Servbot #53 (and fellow brony!) here. Our strange and doomed legacy will echo on through the ages, the foolish saps who thought they could help develop a game the publisher didn't even want.
I remember buying a 3DS like a week before the eShop launch because they were advertising the Legends 3 prototype was going to be there day one... then it got delayed. Then, while checking for updates about the game on my 20th birthday, roughly a month and a half latter, I see Capcom had canceled my beloved Legends 3 (the day before my birthday but for some reason I didn't see anything on RUclips or Twitter that day). Almost as painful as my 360 giving me the Red Ring on Christmas. I was pissed and I legit did not buy a Capcom game for a good year and a half.
Mega Man Legends 2 is my favorite game of all time. As sad as it may sound, it is a major part of my life. Until Mega Man Legends 3 is finally released and puts a bow on the series, I will never feel fully complete.
I was a part of the DevRoom (as a Servbot as they called us). It was a very exciting, but weird time. As you said, it was a lead in to the developer/fan communication found on many crownfunding options today. However, without new footage to feed the machine, hype grew only to die for many of us as less and less relevant news released in the blogs. When the project finally died, a number of Servbots saw some of the writing on the wall. The prototype announcement helped some, but as you've said, it was all for naught in the end anyways. It's a sad trip down memory lane. I can only hope Capcom can find a way to re-introduce Legends in the future. It will likely be within a very "cost-effective" package, but at least to give it a chance.
Could you imagine if they ported Legends 1 and 2 to the Switch? I’m probably just being optimistic, but what if that’s why they renewed the copyright? A former Devoom Servbot can dream, can’t they?
The episode I've been waiting for! MegaMan Legends 1&2 are some of my favorite games of all time. Very nostalgic memories of asking for the 1st, finally getting it on Christmas and staying up into the early morning all winter break. Did it again the next year for the sequel. I run through at least one of them once a year.
"You know, Capcom's got nothing on NASA" "Wha? What's that supposed to mean?" "Capcom may have put a man on the moon but the never got him off of it" Doh! Hohohohohohohohooooo
I can't wait to watch this! Legends is concurrently my favorite, and the most underrated Megaman series out of all of them, and was shafted so hard by Capcom.

Troopers.

Sad to see that happened to you man
It can't be easy to try to have an input on something you love and just get rejected without even being given a fair chance.

Oof, this might be the first What Happened? on something I was personally following, invested in, and devastated by.
This felt like a tragedy at the time.
I just can't help but think about the giant Irony Pretzel that is:
-Capcom using an online dev forum to garner fan support for Legends 3, and it ultimately not living up to the litmus test that Capcom had apparently set for it, and that the fans were never warned about.
Still sad this game never came out. Mega Man Legends was so cool.
Just the gameplay alone made the series amazing. Protodroid Delta is dated for some time in 2022, and it looks somewhat promising.

They were so worried about the platform it was on failing and trying to predict everything via financial forecasts that they missed out on a potential succesful revivial of a franchise.
@@ComicCrossing
I only found it out at random chance.
I think I saw a video on youtube or an FB post about it
Kinda sucks the only current megaman we have is a Gacha game on mobile and steam.
@@LucaLukaszPascua i mean 11 came out like what 2 years ago? and that one was pretty good
edit: ok wow it actually came out 4 years ago what the fuck
@@bitterman7258
Whats even more weird is the Gacha Game of megaman is now available on steam since last year.
I remember hearing about this and being like "what's the big deal?"
Then I actually played the Legends games years later and realized "OH... that's why they were pissed"
Been waiting a long time for this one, and it was worth it. Hoo-boy, so much to say about this debacle…but really I can sum it up as “I agree with Matt’s feelings about this entire subject”, from the bad start, terrible finish, and just the absolute frustration with current Capcom keeping their focus so narrow and only using old franchises as asset bait for the 2-4 titles they focus on. There’s never going to be a happy ending with any Capcom video like this one until they get their shit together.
How the hell did you comment 11 hrs ago?

Agreed.😠😟
@@TheSuperSmashBros01 I'm not even sure about devil May cry. Sure, it has gotten a lot of love recently with the fifth installment, but even then that has just been one game in 2019, minus the 2020 updated re-release.
I saw this and immediate the most painful and sad "oh" that came outta my mouth was unmatched.... I still pray every E3/nintendo direct that we'll get SOMETHING again that this game will still come back.. Megaman 11 gave me sooooo much hope that this may still happen
That Maverick Hunter thing has a lot of Bomberman Zero energy on it,
Legends 1 and 2 were some of the earliest nostalgia I have for Megaman, one of my favorite series all time. Followed L3's development from day one. When it got cancelled, it genuinely broke my heart.
This one's gonna hurt
There was also a Nintendo Power interview and demo discussion in Nintendo Power long ago that’s worth checking out. Considering the article came out just a short time before the game got cancelled, the staff at the magazine was very sad.
Honestly, a remake/remaster of MML 1 and 2 seems more likely than 3 at this point.
I would buy them!
A proper "Capcom Test" like that might actually produce the results they wanted. That is to say, accurately gauging player interest in seeing more of the series. It's kind of unfortunate that the devroom was the Capcom test we got because there was just no way it was ever going to succeed that way.
megaman legends with modern graphics and updated controls, I would buy the shit out of it
I'd buy that if they updated the controls.
At this point, if Capcom ever decides to grow a pair, maybe they should remake Legends 1 & 2 + the Tron Bonne game,
to see if there is any potential to finally continue the Legends subseries, then maybe we could after that see a rebooted Legends 3 project once more in development.
I remember reading somewhere someone from a gaming magazine (can't remember which one) actually got to play the prototype and apparently quite enjoyed was genuinely surprised they didn't at least release the prototype. Would have been nice to at least get the prototype if nothing else.
Some guys from a show also played quite a bit of what was made: ruclips.net/video/5ZMK-BjXTDI/видео.html
I'm so happy it's real ]and not just a joke in Star Fox Adventures. (Yes, I'm hella late to the party on this, shush. I can still express appreciation, can I not?)
On the topic of episode suggestions, I want to vouch for a potential episode on the first *Metal Slug*
The game shipped as a bonafied classic, but behind the scenes the development was a mess: from the fact that the team had recently disbanded from Irem, to the elusive prototype that was met with a cold reception and led to major gameplay changes.
I immediately went out and bought a 3DS when Legends 3 was announced...
You can probably guess at my level of rage afterwards.
Same.
The Pokemon games lessened the blow somewhat, but then Nintendo/GF became greedy a-holes (post-Gen.7).
I was so excited to take part in the community and at the time everyone was very optimistic and ecstatic to help develop this game.
Hopefully someday we'll get that sequel and conclusion to Legends.
or it becomes more than a trilogy I wanna see what zero or bass would look like in this series mm 3 protag could easily be a new version of protoman
(Although somewhat misworded and a truth so harsh it's stupid but sadly out of their jurisdiction)
While the other two divisions were just dead silent.
I wonder if there was some internal shouting after Capcom EU said that. Because if you're silent, you usually intend to hide the truth.
Whoever tweeted that definitely a kid....
I still remember hearing about every single one of those getting canceled. It was certainly a rough year/several years for Capcom fans at that point in time.
I’ve been hoping for this episode ever since I found this series! Thanks Emily
Maximo 3 and Legends 3 getting cancelled still hurts because both of these games where left on a cliffhanger for so long.
Capcom and unreasonable sales projections. Like peanut butter and jelly.
Haven't even start watching the video and I am already depressed, We are off to a great start .
Each and every “What Happened” has been great thus far and I request a video on what happened to Jet Moto and why it stopped sequels from being made.
It’s such a shame it was cancelled.
still sad that we’ll probably never get mega man legends 3. still holding out hope for a new marvel vs. capcom.
I LITERALLY got a 3DS for this game, I really do hope someday it gets another chance, I know current MM director has mentioned it in passing, good to know it isn't COMPLETELY forgotten.
Seen the "still waiting on Megaman Legends 3" sign on AEW Dynamite. I loved 1 & 2
22 years since the last game
11 years since 3 got cancelled
I'm still not over this
Ah man, MML3, Bomberman 3ds, and beta Sticker Star are the "Father, Son, and Holy Spirit" of what could have been for the 3ds.
Oof, I felt this one was coming for a while. Still hurts as much as I remember!
(The less said about Red Ash, the better)
I was still looking forward to some form of Red Ash. It was more a lack of sensible constraint on vision that did it in, wouldn't you say?
@@Mahaveez That's a reasonable way to put it - and much the same thing was what did in MN9 and I don't look forward to a repeat of that. If the project resurfaced with sensible scope, I'd be interested, but I'm not counting on it.
That cancelation pissed me off so much, I hadn't even heard the dev room started or went live so I didn't even get a chance to check it out. I bought a 3Ds specifically for MML3
Crazy how much time has passed now, given that the 3DS itself is no longer in production.
I was at Marine Corps boot camp when they cancelled this game. I’ve never forgiven Capcom and have never bought any of their games since.
God. Seeing this video pop up while browsing for the channel tore open old wounds that I didn't even know still burned.
I remember being part of the dev room my artwork is still on it😂
"You know, Capcom's got nothing on NASA"
"Wha? What's that supposed to mean?"
"Capcom may have put a man on the moon but the never got him off of it"
Doh! Hohohohohohohohooooo
Infinite pain, like the infinite vacuum of space...
I've been on a Mega Man content binge the last week, so this video is right on time.
I can't wait to watch this! Legends is concurrently my favorite, and the most underrated Megaman series out of all of them, and was shafted so hard by Capcom.
3:46 Oh yeah. I remember this part.
Coming back from the newest Direct.
No... my heartbreak from a decade ago...
This still hurts after all these years. It happened when I graduated from high school and I was looking forward to it
