I SAW THE INTERCEPTOR IN THE DOMINICAN!!!!
I’m just a highschooler from Michigan who had never left the country until a couple months ago, when I went on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. While we were on our way back from a worksite we crossed over a bridge, and I saw the Interceptor out in the river!!! I totally freaked out. I was so excited. I’ve been following the Ocean Cleanup since 2019 and I couldn’t believe that I got to see their work in person, if only for a split-second. It was so cool. Keep up the great work guys!!!

I hate the fact that commerce the drive for more money has created the disgusting pollution in the first place. And while it's being cleaned up by someone else, commerce is still accommodated. We have got to be the most ignorant life on the planet

I know this is still in development. My only question, and I hope this is taken as food for thought rather than any kind of detraction, is the loose biomatter (grass, twigs, untreated logs) separated out and returned to the water? There is a good chance those things and thier eventual decomposition are a component of the environment's life cycle in those areas.

I've always wondered why solar panels are used and no water turbines considering the interceptor will always be fixed point on a flowing river and will generate electricity 24/7 ...

Think, 'there is no trash'. All manufactured product return to the earth in well-meaning "benevolent" fashion or become parts of another manufactured item.

what about removing the slum straight down to the water? - Like what does it matter when the people dont care and just live like rats. Sorry, just because youre poor, doesnt mean you have to hurt the planet.
