As a native Los Angeleno i grew up sailing in and around Marina Del Rey and have watched past efforts to boom the debris from traveling into the ocean with little to no effort of stopping it. I would love to see these around the world until we come up with something better than plastic glass worked well for years, and instead of packing tape, we used to use string perhaps these could again be viable options
The Rock Stars of Ocean Cleanup, always amazing work. Secret trash agent 007 is a real beauty. This one should get some serious attention and bring awareness to how serious this problem is worldwide.
Thank you for this update on the 007 interceptor, just fabulous, please share new video on where next new interceptor will be deployed when you know. Thank you all for what your doing.

Hi guys, please look into the kzn, South African beach closure cause of severe pollution. Our government has reopened the beaches a few times and it made people incredibly sick. Absolutely loving the work, love the plan to save the oceans!!❤
This is awesome to see this Interceptor installed, and how fitting to have 007 close to Hollywood, they kind of go hand in hand. I think along with the Interceptor, they should temporarily have the small boat Interceptor I saw you have in Jamaica I think it is, it could go around and do the local clean up downstream of the Interceptor now that it is in place and then you could always move the boat around to other harbours around LA. I think that would be a good idea.
Min 4:50 “in partnership with The Coca-Cola Company” and they show Pepsi bottles in the water. Besides that, great that one of the biggest plastic related companies in the world is involved but provably a 1% reduction on plastic use by Coca-Cola have more impact than 100 Interceptors
Can you please make compilations of your interceptor collecting trash, or make a 'trashiest moment', I would watch hours worth of content, is there a legal compilaction or a financial one?
Baltimore has the original ones - Mr and Mrs Trash Wheel installed in the harbor. You should visit their channel as they have a compilation of trash collected over the years. I think Interceptor 002 has a video up on what it's collected so far.
Great job. Would be very interesting with one of your videos when the trash is analyzed where it comes from. uS is not a poor country so it’s good info for all where to continue stop trash leaks.
😠 Indeed . . . One American billionaire could pay for the cost of all ten Interceptors that Boyan Slat, founder of of Ocean Cleanup, said were necessary in the initial stage of river cleaning. Calling Jeff Bezos from planet 🌍 . . . !
The Ocean Cleanup is only part of the solution. Stronger waste management policies and enforcement of environmental laws need to be implemented world wide. Eco is ok!
22/11/2022 SO SAD that this technology is required in a first world country, whose people are not being responsible for their own rubbish. The Ocean Cleanup is doing some fantastic work throughout the world to ensure of better environment.
There is currently a series on RUclips in Germany called 7vs.Wild. The series is very successful in Germany. There 7 people try to survive 7 days on a desert island. You can tell it's really a desert island because there's plastic everywhere on the shore. It's really frightening.
Need Singapore on board too. Is it possible to pair off shore floating PV stations with the ongoing gyre missions? Regular sorties to collect & remove could be servicing platforms while on site at the gyre.
@oceancleanup you should probably venture into setting up interceptors on Indian rivers as the indian government had setup measures and a new ministry to curb pollution in Ganges and other major rivers.
This is a very good start but the statistics that have been posted at the end of each OCN video lately are mind boggling! And what will it take for all those people who don't even blink when they throw their garbage and plastic into the earths waters and oceans and lands! And what about all those major corporations that also contribute to pollution?
Just me that thought the "Supervisor" could do with some manners? Turning around taking photos during his speech got me triggered. Keep up the amazing work! Politicians are all the same, even when you're gifting them a golden egg ✌️

Looks very professional with this v shaped barriers, gonna work great, every major river should have one, and to Coca Cola when will you bring back glass bottles; it makes drinking much more enjoyable, think about that.
I would be a blast if you showcase the aktual amount of garbage besides the interceptor on shore in a big transparent box. Good demonstration and education, what do you think?
The only downside of this kind of technology is some people now might be more _okay_ with littering because now they see there’s something that can clean up _their_ trash _for_ them. Of course I hope it won’t be true for everyone, but it’s society
I think that polution needs to be a part of the education today, so that the young people understand what happens with the trash that they throw on the ground and not in a garbage bin. Too many people are careless with their trash. We also need better garbage disposal systems implemented all over the world. The garbage containers needs to be tightly closed so that the trash does not get blown out of them by the wind or dragged out by birds. And more laws should be put in place to ensure that garbage is handled properly everywhere, landlords must ensure that proper rubbish bins are available to tenants. The municipalities must construct facilities that does not allow trash to escape out into nature. I have been part of groups that have picked up trash that has blown outside the fence around the local garbage station, and most of that trash has been plastics. I also see people throw out garbage from their cars while they are driving, instead of leaving it in the car until they can throw it in a garbage bin.
I have a question. I have seen in other interceptors that they don't block the water way so water vessels can go by. My question is... why is 007 blocking up the whole mouth to the river/creek?
i could be wrong cause i’m not part of the project but I’ve been by there many times. I think it’s the unique nature of this waterway. Ballona creek is used basically as a giant drain for a large section of LA. Most of the time the water flow is extremely low, almost nothing. Then when it rains a huge amount of water all comes down at once. The creek here is perfectly straight for a very long stretch, so they don’t have the benefit of natural curves to channel the trash towards the interceptor like in other rivers. Also, if I’m not mistaken, the water in the creek itself is pretty shallow and not used for recreation here. Maybe occasional kayakers but that would be all. no other boats or anything go up this channel, the inlet to the marina is directly adjacent to the creek on the other side of the rocks.
I deeply wonder if there are people that throw garbage on purpose in the river BECAUSE of interceptors. Like: it get handled anyways... Please do some research on this topic.
why don't local communities do more? Why wait for a rescuer to show up and do the work? I mean the work they are doing is HUGE and GOOD, but if people don't change their attitudes towards pollution, nothing will change. I sure wish I am *wrong*
Why do we put the burden of cleanup on the consumer and not the manufacturer? Multi-billion dollar companies can research and find better solutions easier than individuals and municipalities can find ways to stop the buildup of garbage and solutions to recycling. Remember, most items labeled as recyclable can't be recycled because the methods to do so are unavailable.
