Lamborghini LM002 Quick Review

- The Lamborghini LM002 ($a lot, and then more in maintenance) is an ambitious off road vehicle fitted with a naturally aspirated V12 engine from a Countach and was limited to just over 300 units. It has a fibreglass and aluminum body and Lamborghini themselves say it was built to ‘intimidate the enemy’ rather than be aerodynamic or lightweight. But how is it to drive? And is a 1980’s V12 Lamborghini SUV as reliable as it sounds? Thomas and James can’t wait to find out. We hope you enjoy the episode. SUBSCRIBE!

Thomas smiling while James is shitting himself is peak friendship
I'd have thought after all these years they'd trust each other in the drivers seat but I guess not 😂
@@R03333obviously in this case they trust each other, but not the car lol
@@R03333I don’t even trust myself in the drivers seat
And PEAK Top Gea.... I mean Throttle House, Throttle House!!!
The thing I hate the most about Throttle House? One cannot resist watching a video immediately after release. Then I have nothing new to watch. I've rewatched some many older videos lol. You guys are awesome.
Literally. I was about to get out of bed and get started on shopping and chores. Saw the video. Ok fifteen more min
Facts
real😂 i understand that production this good takes time but i always want more
😂😂😂 you just read my life
I concur, same issue lol.
I lost it when they cut to the cameras during the off road session and the right turn signal was still going 😂
I have it on good authority that you are not alone in this. "and he's still signaling."
Must get stills of James's face during the "oh no don't do that"s LOLZ
Oh! And James is seriously white knuckling whatever he can hold onto. The thumb sucking moment was epic and should definitely be captured for use in the future!
I was laughing so hard at the 3-wheeling and then I had to go back and yep... right turn signal in slow motion.. blinnnnk..... bliinnnnnkkkk 🤣🤣
The best automotive Duo on the interwebs hands down , that was funny as hell
Looks like James
You silver tongued devil. Fine I’ll go out with you.
It definitely gives James energy
We both have our mother’s eyes
@@jamesengelsman9369😂😂😂
James doing his "infant sucking his thumb" impersonation is epic funny improv
Edward Van Halen also owned a red Lamborghini Miura. A man of talent and taste.
As a kid we’d ride our bikes from HB to NB. There was a Lamborghini dealership there. One day we went in and there was a red Diablo. The mirrors were painted to match his guitar. Just the mirrors, nothing else. Such an awesome flex.
Was taste really a factor in buying this vehicle? Don’t think so. There were 300 of them, so yeah …
@@fifthbusiness1678 I was talking about the Miura. The LM002 was the only SUV of its kind. That kind of gets lost nowadays in the high end SUV market that we have. It could go 125 mph in the sand and it had a Countach engine. And I don't get your point about 300 being made.
@TheRealCatof Knowing to buy a Miura in the early 1980s is a sign of taste and foresight. Same for people buying a Ferrari Daytona in the last 70s and early 80s before the price skyrocketed.
Give me an example of a car that's tasteful, but inexpensive. Understand that "taste" is subjective" and "inexpensive" is a moving variable depending on net worth. That's why some cars are universally held as "tasteful" outside of the subject variables. The Miura, SL Gullwing, S Class MB, Rolls Royce, Porsche 911 Carrera or Turbo, Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic etc.
best sounding off-roader to this day
probably the most carbs on one ever, too.
@markasread4349 , which one is better?
Gotta say I prefer the Purosangue. But this is horn.
@@ConnorHammondsaying that the purosangue is an off roader it's a overestimate.. not every SUV it's off road and specially not a crossover like the purosangue
@@ConnorHammond , wouldn't call the Ferrari an off-roader. Ferrari does not even call it an SUV.
The look of sheer terror on James's face at 14:34 is priceless
Amidst my extra throttle house binge, I get a notification for a new extra throttle house video. It's going to be a good week 😊
You'll be done with the videos within a day. Bcz you can't stop watching 😂
What were they thinking? A foreign manufacturer winning a US military contract is harder the lottery. IOW= impossible
How could you NOT want to drive that aggressively just to hear that sweet exhaust note? Music of the gods!!
Lmao right. At some points tho seems like they really needed all that power lol
You guys are too young to recall when this hit the scene..outrageous machine
Harrison understands the assignment. With the ending off road stuff well done bud so proud of you 😂
this may be one of the best driving reviews you guys have ever done. it's hilarious and in no way makes me want to own that car.
Perfectly put. 😂
while I agree, I wouldn't want to own it either (you'd have to spend well over $200 just to go into town, assuming my math and their numbers are correct), but I would def love to take it off road.
Yeah, she's a thirsty girl for sure. My jaw dropped when I heard the MPG.@@rogerbayless
I’ve never seen James have so much genuine concern and un-assurance while riding with Thomas 😂
Watch his face when Thomas is demonstrating the Cayenne's refresh has fully defeatable traction control in Cliche Corner. It's quick but pure panic. TH might have to make a James' Greatest Sh*ts highlight reel at some point.
@@cbotten106 "Cliche corner" lol wrong Canadians
Oops, these videos all start blending together after a while but a good bit is a good bit...that I DO remember.@@tyler9703
I think the fact that it has no crash structure in the roof and it's tendency to catch fire rolling over or not might have contributed a bit. Hell, I had a bit of clenching action going on while watching the field part of the action :D.
@@cbotten106 which video was this? the only cayenne video i could find of them both in the car together is the extra throttle house turbo gt one, and it didn't happen in that, and i looked at some other videos but couldn't find it
This car was decades ahead of its time: think of all the performance SUVs out now.
A lot of SUVs came first.
In a field. Indicating right the entire time. Pure bliss.
Tina Turner owned one of these; she eventually had the engine and manual transmission replaced with an intact V8 engine and automatic transmission out of a Mercedes 500E, reportedly giving it slightly better mileage and cheaper to maintain (relative to the old V12).
One of those few times where a vehicle was actually ahead of its time. People say that about mundane crap like Aztek, but this exotic luxury sport SUV was literally decades before the modern versions.
Ahead in stupidiry, uhmazin
@@BananaRama1312 I didn't infer they were good then or now.
@@BananaRama1312 It may well be stupidity, but it is mass accepted stupidity. Before there was an Urus, or a Cullinan, or a Purosangue, or a DBX707, or any other exotic engined luxury SUV, there was the LM002. The Rambo Lambo. Beating the others by decades. Unfortunately, so far ahead of the trend that there was no trend, and they did not sell. But they certainly pointed the way to the present. Stupidity for everyone!
@@williamgechtman9287 thats very true 😂 wont Stop me from hating heavy Performance "Cars" tho
The chemistry you two have and the way you guys present theses ETH videos is just . . .UGH! I just love everything about these videos.
I recall reading a contemporary review in a British magazine (I think it was CAR magazine) where they were comparing this to a Range Rover and they did a river crossing in both and the Range Rover couldn’t make it in 4 wheel drive but they forgot to put the LM002 in 4 wheel drive and it breezed through the obstacle in 2 wheel drive. It’s got serious of road chops

🤦... FYI, RUclips has a comment editing feature boomer. Rofl.
One of my childhood dream cars. After watching this, it is still an adulthood dream car.
the blinker in the slow-mo offroad shot was killer
When rumours were going around about Lamborghini developing a new SUV, I was hoping for a new version of this. The LM was unique, and was so ground breaking when it first came out.
The "me too" glammed up VW Touareg that was released was pretty disappointing.
Not that I'm in this market to begin with.
Great work as always on the video.
There's still time and still a market even if its a hybrid or full EV.
I saw one on person in the wild in a small town in South Georgia parked in front of my Uncle’s Bakery I was working at one night.
The front was odd but it was the TIRE TREAD that gave me a quick 100% identification!!
I feel privileged to have seen it actually …
When I was a teenager, a friend's friend had one of these (and a Countach, he was a bit of a Lamborghini aficionado). I never got to ride in the Countach, but in this. It was quite an experience outracing a custom-tuned number from a red light in a behemoth like this.
I dont know why but it steals away my heart each time I look at it
Tina Turner owned one of these as well. Her 60 Minutes interview back in the 90s featured it prominently.
There is a guy who has a black one of these near me. First time I heard it was forever rememberable. Apparently he drives it regularly. The sound of these are amazing
Love that more than the Urus
Cuz the Urus is really just an Audi.

James' face when they were in the field 😂😂😂
Damn you got a chance to drive this legend
James is absolutely hilarious 😂 the comment about not telling Thomas about the door not opening from the inside, in case there was a fire 😂
6:31 The way the guy in the back turned around smiling lol
I also noticed, isn't that Carston?
James looked almost as scared as he did when he almost crashed the Ford GT 2 years ago... I also have even more appreciation for Thomas with the shared love of Eddie Van Halen (RIP 😪). He was and will always be a legend.
Also, thanks for the extra bits in this vid! The expression of the soldier standing next to the carnage was epic - especially when knowing who the owner was...
Always loved this, having off road tyres instantly changes the aesthetic and makes it look more rugid and agricultural.
An epic review on one of the coolest 4X4's on earth! Well done, and thank you for making us part of this special driving experience.
14:28 There he is, still indicating 😂
Had a moment of Deja Vu there when the door handle fell off. When I was a kid I was at the local Porsche dealer with my pops, and there happen to be a 308 Ferrari in the showroom. Another customer opened the door and the handle fell off. 😂
I love the little cutes and edits and overall style of these quick reviews! Great content you guys.
I had the rare oppertunity to take a ride in one here in Jersey USA.. it was a once in a lifetime. I can relate to this video. Thanks and cheers!
These are the videos that brought me to throttle house! Give us more!
Definitely didn't come for a car review and definitely satisfied by all the messing about!! Thank u guys 💙
the joy it brought me when you said eddie van halen was your music icon is imesurable eddie was like my hero i was devestated when he passed away i looked up to that guy alot but he had some hella cool cars, i think he had a black 81 ocountach, i did not know about the lm002 but thats awsome my favorite car he owned though is his his 1970 Muira S, that is completely one off with a factory wide body and costom lamborghini wheels that his wife vallarie bertaneli gave him as a wedding present, so not olny was this car completely one of one, but ut was owned by eddie van halen, he used to drive the car all around LA listening to his music amd wrighting music in it, but i think my favorite thing about the car, is the fact that in the song panama when you here that wooshingg sound at the slow "gettin a little bit hot tonight" part neer the end, thats the muira, he backed the car INTO THE STUDIO amd revved it and fhen put it in the song, wich arguably, is the greatest driving aong of all time (in my opinion) oh and also a car he owned, you know the 52/52 merc in amerocan graffiti that the farrohs drive, wel after it was in akerican graffiti, it was aold to eddie van halen, who then sold it to david lee roth, moddied the hell of it, and turned it into the car you see in the panama music video, now tel me, those two cars arent possibly the most culture rich cars ever, to me the most culturaly significant not because they are so well known, but because of all the people places and things they had part in
I really want yo see them rivew a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 limited. (It was the fastest SUV in the world until about 2002)
Growing up this and honda sproket are my top rarity cars. I've seen 2 videos on this, none on the sproket. Thank you and Doug!
This was one of the best videos on your channel! It was fun to watch and I couldn't help but laugh at the stress this caused you two 😂
Love these things…I will never forget seeing the first one in the wild back when it first came out! Black too! Awesomeness!!!
Way back, there is a beautiful scene in an action(¿) movie with a few of them tearing across some flat landscape. Fantastic machine.
Legend has it, Thomas and James are still in that field with the konked out Lambo.
I had one of those next to me in Munich on the Autobahn about 30 years ago. Sitting in my BMW looking out of my window I saw the top of the tire of that thing next to my window. It's huge!
In elementary school they had a Lamborghini book. Out of all the models this was my favorite. Crazy how suv's became popular over the decades. #Lm002
I had a poster of this car in my room as a kid. Love it.
Why?
@@Boog_masskway There is no explaining matters of heart.
Wow, you guys got to experience the Rambo Lambo!
I fvcking love it!
I would totally buy one and restomod it to maximum glory, new everything but keeping the design intact and daily drive it!
What a car!!!
I have loved the LM002 ever since Road & Track launched a special Lamborghini edition magazine back in 1988.
I’m not even a huge car guy and I just love you guys videos! 😅
The throw on that shifter, like full on rowing a boat. Gotta get your back into it!
Somehow, to my surprise this is exactly what i expected and it delivered like a hotbox pizza after a bong session, this was a choice review. Bravo and cheers guys.
Definitely not what I expected to see. Very cool
Ever since the Road & Track article about the LM004, I have always wanted one. I just wish they had actually made one outside of a prototype.
You guys are SO much fun to watch.
"Collector Driven, the owner of this car and some other rediculous...ly lovely cars"
14:55 needs to be on every reel you do from now on. Channel intro, video intro, some best of, everywhere. 😂
I love how far you have to reach over just to shift. I mean I love the sound of that V12 more, but the shifter is hilariously cool.
Thomas and James are absolute peak viewing!! This video had me in tears laughing. Favorite RUclips channel by far!!!
That thing sounds insanely good on startup
Such a cool vehicle and cool history. I've always loved the LM002 because I felt like they were unappreciated.
I think I had to read about this car in a magazine when it came out. 😁
Incredible cool that you two were able to make this video!
I much prefer this than the Lamborghini Urus actually
Every single video you make is better than the last and even more importantly, funnier. This is hilarious.
redline reviews is number 1 for car reviews, these guys are top on my list but not 1 because it’s like 1 video every two weeks, in the beginning they were knocking out 2 a week I’m pretty sure
Throttle House is my favourite channel. My second is Extra Throttle House.
Why the hell do your videos have to be so good that you just can't wait for the next one.
Couldn't help but think when Thomas was driving the "car" oh shit now they're flipping the car over 🥴😮
BUT this is NOT the car you should buy (if you could afford it) but damn you make it fun to watch.
Well done boys 👍👌
The door handle falling off got me 🤣😂
I can't stop laughing at James face when Thomas went off road, the biggest smile by his mouth, but then you see the fear in his eyes!
Rumor has it the indicator is still on
Honestly, the funniest part is that at 14:32, the blasted turn signal is still going. That's so good.
I love how even after all they said they're still so happy driving the car, I guess that's what Lamborghinis do
The really interesting option on the LM002 was exchanging the Countach V12 for a the 720 bhp Lamborghini L804 7.2 litre marine V12... Not to many of those were ever put in these...
If any…?
Absolutely amazing video as always, please keep them coming. Your production n editing is always amazing even is pretty good on this channel but bro holy shit the camera angles n production on this video was absolutely incredible, good job fr
My uncle had one. His was forest green, and it was the first fuel injected one made, so it still had the big cowled hood. He had a full set of the original tires sitting to the side, because they wee $5k each. He got it because he was frustrated with how slow his H1 was. I think in the 20-ish year he owned it, it may have ran a total of 6 months.
This deserves a full length 2 hour special 😂
This, is still my dream super SUV. I know there are "better" ones now. But I want one of these beasts.
Dangerously contagious!
Ludicrous car. It must have felt surreal to be behind the wheel of an LM002. Love it.
As someone in the military for almost 10 years, I can easily say that I wish this had won that contract over what we have now. I mean, it can't be any worse at least.
If my experience with vintage Lamborghins is any indicator, that’s why you’re still here (and I’m glad you are!). Or you’re right, the Italian choice was more reliable, up is down, left is right, black is white and I don’t even know what’s real anymore.
@@TheReboot 😂🤣😂👍
@@TheReboot At least I would've died in relative comfort.

Who thought this would be a good idea to make. But I AM glad they were made at all.
Love this shows. Although you could have mentioned why it is so cramped inside. Like the Hummer the priority was ground clearance so the energy, drive train, exhaust etc is raised up and into the vehicle.
Now this is something we all wanted to see
Living in the Metro Detroit area I saw many of those running around when they were new.
After production ended they were 40 - 60k.
Can’t believe it was almost 9 minutes before you said “Rambo Lambo”😂
most underrated lambo out there 😈
"The door handle fell off" is the equivalent of James May's "I've broken stalin's house"
The blinker being on for 90% of this video is amazing lol
This is so special, I love it
