2019 Honda Insight - Review & Road Test

- Traditionally hybrid cars are odd looking, but the 2019 Honda Insight not only looks like a normal sedan, it's more attractive than a normal sedan. With Civic proportions and some Accord styling, the Insight's distinct character sets it apart from the other oddball hybrids visually. Now, let's see how the rest of it stacks up.

Best looking hybrid so far. Will never understand what was in Toyota's designers mind when they built the Prius.
王作剛 One word : Aerodynamics
So everybody could see you're wearing a hair shirt, signalling your virtue. Also, aero.
王作剛 Toyota Camry hybrid is more stylish. yes Prius is ugly. haha
Isn't it obvious? The Aztec!
Max W but the thing is, Camry isn't only sold as a Hybrid, so it doesn't count.
thank you Honda for making a beautiful hybrid sedan!!!
@ZACHARY KING It's meant to be a premium Civic and a Pruis competitor, what did you expect?
I got my 2019 Insight Touring for 24k out the door.
toyota has almost every car in their line as a hybrid
I just bought an insight. Crazy torque and pull off the line. Prius killer !!!!
Love that this was shot in the Twin Cities, lots of iconic shots. Also loving this car; beautiful, practical, and fuel efficient. That's a combo I've been waiting for!
Would take it any day over a Prius.
Kentaro Honjo This proves we don't need Toyotas hideous Prius styling.
It’s also cheaper than a Prius..
Of course. The Insight is the hybrid for douchebags.
John Lenin wtf lol
A huge downside of the current Prius--which is otherwise actually a pretty good car--is the weird styling of the body. Toyota should have just updated the previous model's reasonably good design instead.
I bought a Black 2019 Insight Touring last month and couldn't be happier. I LOVE this car! It looks great, and drives really smooth.
It has far better tail lights than the new Accord too, now if Honda decided to wake up and give us an Accord Type R, I would be one seriously happy dad!
Tried 2.0T Sport in Sport mode?
The new accord is ridiculously ugly. They should have made it look more like the insight
So, to put it in a nutshell, insight is just a hybrid civic....... Smart of u, Honda!!
they probably wanted to pay homage to the Insight name, since it was the first hybrid sold in the US
I love the genuinely informative tech speak juxtaposed with the sheepish acknowledgment of how silly we all can be about things. Super helpful and fun.
This car over the Prius... Any day!!!
Any car over the Prius
I don't hate Prius.... Looks can be subjective but it's extremely reliable and gives great fuel economy....
A. Ayush I'd even take a tuk tuk over a Prius. lol
Prius isn't *that* bad.... !
Saad Qureshi 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Early squad! Perfect timing just was researching this!
I really enjoy your review videos. Usually, on other channels, the videos are either informative but boring or flashy with little substance. You guys strike a great balance. Kudos to Micah and team.
Johnson Lai Thanks for the kind words. Cheers!
@@MicahMuzio 4:42 and 5 inches is plenty usable :( so us white boys would like to think lol
Nice review, I really enjoyed this video and DO plan to buy one soon!
By far the most entertaining review. I've had mine for a week and I love it. A recurring complaint I hear is about in some reviews is the engine noise sometimes under heavy load. Yes it is louder than the car running in EV only or purely generating electricity for the batteries... but turn on the stereo and you'll almost never notice it.
I went with the EX, and I agree it's worth the small premium from the LX.
When a hybrid looks better than the rest of the car lineup lmao... I hope the 2019 Civic gets styling cues from this new Insight
Yes, personally I find most of Hondas line up very odd looking but the insight is very attractive
I love this presenter's way of presentation.
Test drove an EX today. Beautiful car. Felt very refined. Really well priced considering its a hybrid, and it has a little more guts than most hybrid too (150 hp combined). Only hesitant on it being a 1st generation model tho, but I was impressed with the car.
I just got mine and I love it. The no stick thing is great
Great review Micah
Love y’all, great review!
Thanks for your support, Ryan!
Looks better than the Prius , gets better gas mileage than the Prius
I think this is the hybrid you can actually buy without looking like a ...
Well done and helpful presentation
The best insight review so far
Wow 3 Honda Insight videos hit my inbox at the same time. I guess the embargo lifted at midnight Eastern.
Sleepy Panda Me too. Something going on.
You are correct. The embargo was until midnight.
Micah is our hero he speaks about hybrid cars while wearing a nice s2000 shirt.
Now that is one good looking hybrid!!
Micah! Your back! And what is that thing that you put behind your lower back?
Looks better than the Accord.
Accord has been ugly since 2016...
Agreed the back of the Accord was were I was like nope
ladyvee7110 this is how it should’ve been... but accord sized
@@iishyxvietxboyii1 2016 was facelift.. much better than 2015
Awesome video. Would you have any thoughts of this vehicle compared to the Kia K5?
Purchased my beautiful pearl black Insight EX last month (October 2019) and got a great deal because I waited for the end of year close out so I got one for $20,000.00. Driving it is a dream, I'm getting 60 mpg in town. When I stop for a red light the car switches to the Electric Motor so I don't use gas. When the light is green and I take off it's all electric switching to hybrid mode to charge the battery and help power the engine when I need the extra horse power. I've made one 600 mile round trip on mountainous roads traveling through eastern Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky on my way to rural Ohio and easily got 51 mpg, at times when I was going down hill or on flat roads the mileage increased to 54 at times but the overall was excellent at 51. Overall I'm happy but there is room for improvement. When driving uphill on mountainous roads the engine is loud, you can hear and feel it straining to use its combined 151 hp. I'm guessing the tach would read somewhere in the 6000-7000+ rpm range or higher but once the road straightens out it's back to being a fairly quiet car and very comfortable and easy to drive. I have to admit I love all the safety features including the ACC and LKAS which takes some getting used to.
Good review of a nice car. What music was that at the end? It was good too
This has got to be one of the best cars on the market. Thank you for the amazing vid!
Been waiting for this
Looks a lot better than the Honda Accord
This car is sweet. All the technologies, good pricing! Oh, and beautiful than most hybrids out there.
Currently deciding between a Prius or an Insight, and reviews like this one has gotten me to look to cars other than Prius to give me the Hybrid that I've always wanted.
I really hope they bring this nice thing to Germany.
Well done video as always by the way.
Love the shirt 👌🏾
seriously im considering getting one cause it looks so good
Enjoy your reviews. Any chance this technology with find it's way to he CRV?
I’ve had my eyes on the Toyota Camry LE Hybrid (53MPG) for a month now, but this Honda Insight Touring sounds great too (55MPG) I can’t decide 🤯
I would be curious to hear your opinion of the Insight when compared to the Prius in terms of the Hybrid powertrain.
Love my 2018 Accord if I needed a Hybrid i would definitely consider this car. Honda puts out a Great quality car.
Hi Micah 😄, so great to see you and your review of the' 19 Honda Insight. Hopefully you'll review the 2019 Volvo XC40 soon.
Already done! Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/dj6MnCPXF34/видео.html
Really nice car. I really want the Honda Insight.
Sounds good but thats only for the gen 3+ if you go for gen 1 or 2 you would just get the oddly shaped semi-hatchback.
omg thank you honda for making this car this is my next for sure
Yay! Micah is Back!!!
Cool this review was in Minnesota :D
👍 Beautiful styling 👍
I can't believe that comes in under $25 grand at the low-end. It's definitely a car I will be heavily looking at for my next automotive purchase.
Micah, what are your thoughts on the 2019 Volvo S60?
So what happened to the Accord 2019?
Have to say that Honda has awakened. The Civic Type R, new Accord, and the Clarity and Insight. Would be interesting to hear the story about what woke them up.
Stephen Hendricks I dunno, but but F1 might be involved in their overall outlook lol... Mclaren...
Good work. I love you from Algeria
I always love this guy
Loving my 2022. Just got 644 miles on a full tank.
Wait. What are you doing in Minnesota? Not complaining since I live there but...what are you doing there?
Micah you have been doing a few 2019 vehicles but can you do a 2018 Infiniti QX80 I’ve been waiting since it came out I don’t even think the insight is available
Just test drove 2019 Honda Insight and absolutely loved it!
I wonder why I don’t see these a lot on the roads! Maybe lack of publicity!
I have one and love it. Makes me worry though that they arent popular enough and may discontinue them to the point that it may be difficult to find parts sooner than later.
Less advertising, no incentives as compared to electric vehicles. If they start doing that, the traffic will generate.
What brand is that lumbar support you used?
Great looking and incredible value, I just wish that swooping roof were a lift back. Also, when's it go on sale?? The online configurator still isn't live
Awesome look
Best hybrid of all hands down.! 👌
The gas mileage is what really catches my attention. Wish it was a big as my 04 Accord.
I drive an Accord Hybrid and I love it. It doesn’t get as much, but still really great, nonetheless. They advertise 47 mpg and I definitely wouldn’t say I’m a picture perfect driver, but I regularly get about 40-45 mpg.
Wow that's outstanding stats regardless & more spacious. I'll look into that !
Rookie To Pro it's bigger than your 04 Accord lol
I'll have to check it out in person.
Over 52 MPG after over 4000 miles on EX model.....real world driving....excellent car for the $$
And he’s baaaaack!!!!!
Rear cross traffic alert available ?
Nice car. Nice review. It would be nice to include a real world mpg test to see if the car's reported mpg lives up to the reality of a regular driver's experience.
Thank you
I heard that with hybrids if one engine fails you have to fix both. Which spikes up the mechanic bill. Is that true?
What is it with Honda refusing to include lumbar support. I love my 2017 Civic but holy hell the seats are awful without lumbar on long trips.
Awesome car. Great work Honda.
You gotta check honda sensing. Ever since I learned that e.g. on the ridgeline they are messing with the 0mph, it would help to have pointed out in videos what level it is.
Great Review Micah. I really am impressed at this design. This is how the Civic’s exterior should have looked. My only real gripe with this car is the lack of a real blind spot monitoring system. Lane watch is okay but a real blind spot monitoring system includes rear cross path detection
Yea boi ! Micah Micah Micah ! Luv it .
Honda , so insightful hope this insight is in my sight soon.
Fantastic car, I hope that it will prove to be reliable
Phew, Micah is back
So what's the point of the Honda Clarity hybrid?
Looks good.
As someone who dreams of a Mustang GT, I actually really want one of these.
MICAH: Great review and video. THANK YOU for showing the cheap LX screen and interior materials. How does the INSIGHT Touring $28k compares to the interior space, head room, leg room, rear seat room space of the $56k Tesla Model 3 ...... I know, it’s not a fair apples to apples, but just in interior space, does it feel the same, smaller or bigger than a Model 3???? I saw a Model 3 at the NYC Tesla Show room, and was not impressed in person looks and feel for a $55k car, it felt like a regular $25k car with unique tech. For the money of the INSIGHT EX for $25k and 55 MPG is looking good!!!!. LUMBAAAAAAR!!!!! RESULTS, NOT LABEL!!!!! very funny, thanks for the video, your thoughts on Model 3 space interior vs the Insight
Where do i get your S2000 Shirt?
The old version looked like an appliance, which is what kept me from buying one. I will be buying a new car within 30 days and have narrowed my list to 4 cars. I am looking for safety, fuel efficiency, practicality vs. luxury., and handling. Thanks for the insight, lol!
Awesome answer to the Prius, and a competition to the Ioniq.
So here's the check list that it borrows from other Honda Line up
Gauge - 18 Accord
Headlight - accord
Center Screen - Civic
Lane Watch - 2013-2017 accord
It's a good looking car. Much better than the Prius and clarity.
Actually, the center screen is from the Accord... or is at least using the newer software that is on the Accord, and also has a volume knob, neither of which the current Civic has. I guess this system from the Insight will end up on next year's Civic.
Kinda wish I got this instead of the 17 Civic! It seems like a really great car
i kinda wish i shouldve got this instead of 2018 Civic.... but Nvm i still love The Civic look ...! i love my 2018 Civic
the 17 civic is a really nice and beautiful car tho
Please tell what are it's rivals
But Honda did say that they would discontinue
Probably my next car (current car, 2013 Honda Civic)
Why does the accord hybrid exist when the insight is a thing?
I'm hoping to soon sell my 2003 Civic and get this!
Rear seat room ??
so ex or touring.. what should I go with
I truly appreciate you complaining about wireless CarPlay and Qi charging - I can’t wait for these features to be standard
Looks good
Cool shirt!
Insight II FL driver here, hmm easily my next car when it's here in Asia. Just take my money
My question, why is city mpg higher than highway....?
Why does the fuel efficiency go down for highway?
few questions. does this have an option to drive in only electric? if so whats the range? also does this one have the option of charging the battery with gas like the Honda Clarity
It does have an option to drive in pure electric but since it’s not a plug-in hybrid, it only gets about a mile range and you have to go slow like driving in a neighborhood or something. The battery also have to be at a decent amount or else it just won’t go in EV mode.
For the charging, it has regenerative breaking system so you can charge the battery while driving regularly on a freeway or use the paddle shifter to control the amount of regenerative break.
My car ❤ with same color ❤ and same perfection❤
