As a German, it's available here as well. If I had the spare cash (4k EUR), I would have already bought it. Yes, we can and do have guns here in Germany. Not as easily as in the US, granted. But once you jump through all the hoops, you can have some nice stuff.

@@supernice8887 Ja, aber meine 5.45 Saiga ist auch top Qualität und hat "nur" 1,5k gekostet (zur Einführung 2004 waren es mal 699 😥). In 7.62 gibts die sogar schon für 1,2-1,3k. Aber das sind dann halt auch nur sehr gute AKM/AK103 bzw. AK74M, keine AEK-971 Style Russian Space Magic^^

I have 6.5 Grendel rifles and reloading gear, I would absolutely buy this. This caliber conversion makes more sense than converting an Ak to a 5.56 NATO. The parent case for the 6.5 Grendel is a .220 Russian, itself based off the 7.62x39. You can hydroform Polish, brass, 7.62x39 cases into 6.5 Grendel using a full length case sizing die. The only changes are the barrel and magazine when using that adjustable gas block. This is actually perfectly sensible.
and while the 6.5 Grendel is a seriously good longer range caliber, it still kicks all sorts of ass up close. It's one of those unicorns that would work well in an AK, RPK and an SVD. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Russia ditch the 5.45 for the 6.5 Grendel if they decide to change up their calibers. There is more room in the bullet for penetrators. The terminal ballistics are good. It does long range well. The recoil is somewhere between a 7.62x39 and a 5.45x39. Of course, they can't use some Western caliber so they'll probably roll their own and not sell it anywhere else.
About the only other thing I could see as a replacement cartridge for Russia is the 6.8 SPC. The 6.8 does a little better than the 6.5 Grendel at close ranges, but doesn't stretch out as far. The Grendel really likes longer barrels. But the 6.8 also has more room for penetrators, shoots even lighter than the Grendel and most importantly, is only slightly larger around than the current 5.45x39. Meaning, you could probably open the bolt face slightly on an AK74 or RPK and have the 6.8SPC drop right in. It's close enough, you might not even have to tweak the extractor, or if you do, you're just taking a c-hair off the nose.
@@Clean97gti a former Com-Block country did go with the Grendel, don't remember which. Since the cartridge itself was co- developed with a Russian long- range competative shooter and ballistician, I don't think the Russians would change the cartridge. In fact, we have an example of that. They recently made a bull-pup chambered in what is actually a .50 Beowolf. They simply refer to it the way they do all of their cartridges, by the metric dimensions, 12.7x55mm.
@@Cmoth040 Serbian military has adopted the 6.5 grendel and will be fielding a new version of the M70 made by Zastava. PPU will be providing the ammo.
@@adamg574 I saw that they were moving to that a couple of years ago. It's a good choice. They lose compatibility with allied states, but they gain a huge bonus in ballistic coefficient, range and penetration.

@@maxpower4781 depends on where you try. Find WW2 battle lines. Especially here in Eastern Germany around Magdeburg, where literally thousands of retreating Wehrmacht personnel dumped everything they had on them into the rivers before they surrendered to the Americans. I found several Mauser fitting bajonettes and even a Hitler Youth Dagger. Good friend of mine actually retrieved a Mauser P38 from under an old bridge.

To be fair shooting at 1000 yards with AK sights is an exercise in futility unless your target happens to be a literal army marching in close order formation.

I thought the FW reference was to his reaction to the "worst AK ever" video where Ian found an AK that had been subjected to outrageous cruel and unusual punishment! IIRC, Brandon promised to fix it for free, and subsequently did a video where he announced that he now had the poor thing in his hands and would be showing the completed project in a later video.
Don't get me wrong... An AK-50 video would be welcome. I just think that the connection to FW is stronger for the butchered AK.

One of my scripts had a CQB aftermath where their opponents were armed with 6.5mm tactical assault weapons, they chucked them in the nearest war scrap bin because only the enemy used/had access to 6.5mm.

Actually, as a German, the biggest problem apart from the magazin size (max 10 for rifles - this would count as a rifle due to barrel length; max 20 for pistols) is that its built from an original "weapon of war" AK. If you'd custom built and not convert it, no problem. Probably the BKA (FBI equivalent with ATF like additional duties) would have to give their ok, as it still would have characteristics of "weapons of war", but they previously and regularily approve AK type, AR-15 type and SCAR type rifles. You just gotta be member of a gun club that shoots a recognized discipline that uses that style of rifle and caliber, and you good to go. Membership is like 100€ - 300 € a year. I think I even pay only 90ish.
Honestly, it's harder to get a pump action shotgun than an AK-type rifle, as they were deemed to be a weapon often used by criminals.
And to brag a bit, you can even have it shipped to your door step with DHL. Ammo as well. Not in the same parcel tho.
