- Today I'm excited to share not only one of the best releases of the year, but one of the most significant and beautifully realized watches from Omega in 2022. In a never-ending sea of limited-edition Speedmasters and 007 Seamasters, the CK 859 is a refreshing Art Deco capolavoro and tribute to one of the most important in-house calibers from Omega. Not only did the legendary 30T2 calibre lay the foundation for what the brand is today, but it also helped mankind during some of the world's darkest hours. Join me for an unboxing and mini review where I share the positives, negatives, specifications, analysis of the style, design evolution, history, and everything else you need to know about this world-changing watch.

I'm seriously starting to enjoy modern interpretation of vintage styles!
Agreed, reduces the risk of the mechanism breaking lol
So much more interesting than the usual divers! This is an Omega with a Longines soul - wonderful!! Unfortunately the price makes it unaffordable for me unless I sell at least 7-8 of my watches, which I won't do, but I can dream.........
YESSSSSS!!! A refreshing change indeed!
Thank you my friend, I am glad I am not alone there.
Best regards,
TGV
What a great description!👍👍👍
Or get the vintage one complete with patina
@@theurbangentry can you review one of the longines heritage collection as its price is much easier to justify.
Do you own the Longines Sector bud, that clearly has the “Longines Soul” 😂 and surely don’t need to sell your collection, if you don’t own one already?
Stylish, elegant and cool, (Enough about TGV), Omega have knocked this Art Deco scorcher out of the park. And the real bonus is that you can actually buy one - for now.
Thank you Tim, flattery and kindness will get you very far in life. You are an absolute gent.
Best regards,
TGV
Easily one of the best releases of the last few years, let alone this year… this watch lends itself to so much potential when considering flanker releases (like a 36mm or 37mm alternative), etc… hopefully this can almost grow into a new line of watches for Omega…
Flanker?
@@andrewstorm8240 by flanker I mean a watch that is similar to the first original release and “flanks” it in a lineup… providing an alternative but still related to the original… such as same watch but at 37mm, etc…
Have to say, I walked in a AD. Saw the Ck859 and another watch. Debated with myself and remembered your video. Bought it on the spot and the lady was surprised. Said it was too small for my size. Looked at her, said "It doesn't matter!"
👏👏👏👏 Nicely done Jacob, congrats and enjoy. Thank you so much for sharing that, it put a big smile on my face.
Best regards,
TGV
Well presented! To someone as old as I am (59), my engineering background, and a serious collection of watches, I have to say that its brilliant. Its the golden rule intersection between a casio g shock and a gold daydate president. To be worn on building sites, meeting rooms and fancy restaurants. Well done Omega and well done you on your presentation!
This release was a pleasant surprise. Omega’s contribution to the war effort will never be forgotten. I wish they would release something sized like their 1960s Seamaster Deville line.
I don't often get exited when new watches get released but this one made me read the article I saw about it. Its such an understated offering from Omega, it wont sell well but the omega catalogue is much better for having this in it. If I didn't have the Stowa Marine Classic this would be pretty high on my list right now.
For a brand steeped in history they don't often look back, aside from the naming. (Some may say thats a good thing) Sure there is the Speedmaster, Seamaster, Ploprof and museum ranges but there is soo much more out there in their back catalogue. Id be all up for a reissue of the 60s Seamaster with a manual wound calibre and some dark coloured dials similar to the Cartier tank dials from the other year.
I second, I also have a Stowa Marine Classic and now I am doubting if I should replace it with the Omega or have both.
A terrific watch. Definitely a part of my collection at some point in time. Thanks TGV!
007 goldeneye omg the nostalgia!!! Epic
In my opinion, this, the Longines Ultra-Chron Diver and the Omega Speedmaster '57 Master Chrono black dial with recessed markers are the most awesome watch releases of 2022.
Moonswatch aside, Omega is having a quiet but true moment. Let's see in 2023
Makes me want to buy it and wear it with double button suit all day long 😊. I love the vintage vibe and I am glad Omega is pulling all these beautiful watch designs from their archives.
So happy with mine. Works with croc strap, other colors, nato. Whatever I throw at it
I predict that there will be a return to the classic dimension smaller diameter and slimmer watches soon. More discreet and less flashy.
That’s beautiful, really captures the 1930s and 1940s elegant styling perfectly. My great uncle’s 1940-something Omega is still in the family and is a beautiful small seconds piece a lot like this. Also, it’s fantastic for Omega to be releasing something other than a ‘Limited’ Edition Speedmaster for once.
I love it. It's high time the industry went back to elegant designs like this and stopped pushing out endless amounts of divers. Omega should do more reissues like this. Longines has been doing it for a while and have some amazing reissues in their catalogue.
I’m sorry but can we all just take a second to appreciate the opening credits? The visuals were simply stunning. TGV, the work and effort you put into you intros is unmatched. Absolutely stunning 🤌🏻👏🏻
Love the soundtrack to this video. There is something special about this era, the music, the cars, the style !
@17:09 WOW!! It's the FIRST TIME in my life I hear somebody using the word "versimilitude". Thank you! It was my favourite word at the university years ago :)
This Omega is perfection
39mm such a good size, need more in the 36
Hmmm, I'm thinking now, 37.5 would be PERFECTION.
But yeh, so true everyone is different, but like I said, offering 2 size options would be best. Kinda like the mid size and full size Seamaster they did.
Thank you Alex,
Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry hundred per cent agree, giving people the option would be such a good way to attract more customers in the eyes of the brand too
I look ridiculous with most sub 40 mm modern sports watches but in classically styled or vintage pieces I prefer 39 down to 36 and even 34 on some watches.
I own the 39 Longines sector which seems similar in size and never felt it too big, having concentric circles within a dial generally make it wear smaller
Was lucky enough to try one of these on at my AD a few weeks ago and it’s simply stunning. Omega have always been my family’s watch brand of choice at least from as far back as the fifties. Personally I have flirted with other more exotic brands, but more and more I find myself drawn back to the brand.
Man that is some serious video editing in the beginning. Looks stunning!
The ck859 and the globemaster annual calendar are my favourite omega models
Nice, except for the "Ag925" on the dial... That reassured me again that I do not need an Omega.
I can't believe you mentioned Command and Conquer! That was literally the RTS game I grew up on, such a blast from the past!
Finally a decent review of this wonderful watch. Should have known it would be from you TGV 👌
This Omega was the most refreshing release this year imo. I love the design and class this watch has. I own a CK2292 and this is a perfect reference to that style watch.
I love the look of this Omega and crave a master chronometer, however, I recently received a Longines Flagship Heritage for my 30th birthday and although the movement is not in the same league and the watch can be bought for a fraction of the price, the sheer charm, wearability (at 38.5mm) and history that has gone into making it, is an absolute bargain for anyone who is looking for a similarly beautiful looking Swiss made watch.
Forget you did a review on this, i got this watch and your review made me fall in love with it again😂❤
The Art Deco period had always been my all time favorite since childhood. I enjoy its apparent simplicity, the superlative materials, its functionality over ostentation. Yet it is extremely expressive.
This watch oozes understated discretion and class. That’s the way for the quiet gentlemen…
love the watch, but the opening two minutes were a mini masterpiece. Good show
This review reminded me of how much I wanted a sector dial JLC a few years back. I passed on one and later regretted it. This watch is very nice and somehow even more appealing. Hopefully it will be available for a while so I can save some money to buy one! Thanks for the review.
--Michael
I don't blame you regretting it, the way JLC do theirs is hard to beat, maybe even the best at it, well, maybe until now? 😉
Always a pleasure and always great to hear your feedback.
Thank you Michael,
Best regards,
TGV
the sense of tension in the movie Dunkirk is thanks to the brilliance of composer Hans Zimmer and the way he incorporates something called the Shepard Tone. great stuff by Nolan, Zimmer and Hardy. and the watch!
The styling is superb as it is accurate. Thank you for showing the movement. To a watch maven the movement was eye candy. The use of blued hands was cracking, snappy, pleasing to the eye.
Fantastic watch! Omega is doing excellent watches and movements since 2007! I think they are, as a brand, still massively underrated because they are not lagging behind Rolex in any way, quite the opposite.
Another excellent video my brother! This release from Omega is so underrated and I absolutely love it ❤️ I hope I get to see one in the metal.
Was looking at buying an Omega for awhile. But this sold me, especially the military history.
Such an elegant piece, you turn your wrist to see the time and you travel to a past, romantic era with more finesse. Bravo TGV you always make the difference to watch reviews and the others just following you...
Cool intro and a fantastic watch but I feel 38mm would be a better size to begin with. And at 6k… you can have a lot of interesting choices. 3-4k its where it should sit. Just my 2 cents.
Love the Omega. I have 8 watches & my 1985 Omega (Dress) Seamaster(21st birthday present) is my favourite. On my 7-1/2’ wrist, this little 31mm Seamaster is a treat. Smallest of all my watches as I also love my Gshock & Edifice watches.
Thanks for renewing my interest in watches in my late fifties.
Cheers from Australia.
Paul.
I bought a Railmaster '57 limited edition in 2017. It stopped several times within a few months and WoS replaced it . So much for METAS !
What a spot on review. This channel just keeps smashing it out of the park! Fantastic video as ever TGV
A tremendous watch, and something I absolutely did not expect from Omega. So glad you covered it - this watch deserves more attention. But I'll hope it doesn't get any til I pick one up!
Congratulations on the watch! I could not verbalise just why this watch looked so beautiful to me when I first saw it, your video was perfect in helping me understand why this watch is so special.
Why would you congratulate him?
TGV, thanks for the review. My wife Chantel actually caught me watching this review and beamed "that is a beautiful time piece", sat down and watched the review with me. The Art Deco influence is something she and I want to upgrade in our home and that watch is certainly a motivator (and a grail piece).
Omega have been doing great things lately.
If this is the direction for Omega and indeed contemporary watch design, then I’m all for it. Pure class.
🙌🙌🙌🙌 Hear hear!
Thank you Peter,
Best regards,
TGV
You should have a television show on history or discovery. I could listen to you discussing history and style every day man. I don't comment often but you really put so much work into these videos and I really learn a ton every time. Thank you and keep up the great work. It is appreciated.
Thank you so much Chris, you are very kind. I am deeply flattered, but more importantly, pleased that you found it informative. Hearing that makes it all worth it.
Best regards,
TGV
great to see someone talking about an omega that isnt some seamaster variant or a speedy.
That Omega box is incredible as it's the exact one my Seamaster Chronograph came in. I still have the tape on the push button 🤣
As an Art Deco fan, I thoroughly enjoyed your beautiful introduction.
The Omega is stunning and a great antidote to the vulgarity of the Swatch collaboration.
What an absolutely stunning release by Omega! I was completely unaware of it I admit. I think the point you made is perfect, TGV. Releasing something like this really shows Omega doesn't need to lean on the 'hype' pieces at all. Moonswatch aside, I've recently been thinking how Omega has become a bit of an anti-hype brand. A brand one chooses for the love of watches over the need to show off something on the wrist and 'flex' on social media.
So well said, 👏👏👏 "a brand one chooses for the love of watches over the need to show off something on the wrist and 'flex' on social media". I might have to quote you my friend, thank you!
Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry By all means, go ahead! 😁
Tried one on last weekend and it completely blew me away. Luckily I have a 7.5” wrist, so it fits me perfectly. It will sit alongside my father’s 1962 Omega Century, that he had since new and has gifted to me. Real class as you say TGV - a rare thing nowadays…
Excited to see this video. I bought the solid gold vintage watch that inspired this one last year as an engagement watch. Really lovely.
Interesting release from Omega…however I would love to see a power reserve indicator function that is essential to the manual winding calibre
In my opinion. Thanks for bringing in this for a review👍
Or you just look at the beautiful backside and check the balance wheel 😊
Superb review of a beautiful watch. I agree with you on the size, as it would have been perfect at 36 or 37 mm.
I 100% agree with you about the size. Truth is that the real vintage one was called "jumbo" and measured 37mm...
Grazie per il bel video,
Jack
Great review love that intro music I can sit and listen to that all day.
Absolutely brilliant intro montage! 🙌
I just want to play the opening over and over. Long love Art Deco!
Wow. Rarely do I say this, but I have to have that watch. I have a vintage Omega pocket watch, in perfect condition I might add, which looks remarkably similar. This would be a perfect everyday wristwatch.
perfect size watch for us with smaller wrists!!!! cudos Tristan=i've been away for far too long.
For me, 39 is a favorite size and i see no point in doing a copy of the original. I think they may have a problem trying to do the double barrels in a 36", and also have that 72 hr power reserve. However , I'll bet they could have done 38.5", which would have been a nice touch. This is on my Acquire list!
The way you theme your intro's is always such a joy to watch. This timepiece is very classy, and surely one for more chique occasions. And to no surprise, the intro is perfect.
No wonder you have attacted the attention in showbusiness, your style and effort are among the best on RUclips.
Still lusting after the Fortis Bicompax chrono, its finishing and easthetics tick all my boxes. Pulling the trigger will be postoned somewhat, but for good reasons. Supporting my Ukrainian stepbrother defending his country has taken priority. Let's hope they win soon so they all can move onwards and upwards. ❤
Love me a small seconds manual wind watch and that view of the movement is just gorgeous. The dial reminds me a lot of the Dan Henry 1937, which would be a good alternative for those of us without 6k to spare!
Thanks for your videos as always; The distance you go to educate and entertain is unappreciated, even by myself.
Keep it coming TGV, thanks again.
Beautiful watch, just love it. I cherish my father’s 1963 Omega, cal. 611 36 mm mechanical watch. It’s my “birth year” watch… whenever Omega introduces a new, mid-century, style watch, I do my best to save up and buy it. This watch certainly fits the bill…
Hot jazz for a smoking hot watch! Great presentation as always
Wow this intro with the mirror image is insane! The Art Deco feels are strong in this one. Great watch too, very much enjoyed this episode. You also seemed more excited about it than your last video I watched the one comparing new and old Explorer.
0:22, Islander. ;) A little plug for another great watch maker? I love mine!
I tried on the 36 mm Explorer and it looked ridiculous. Wrist is 7.25. 40 has always been the sweet spot. Tried this on and it is perfectly sized. Beautiful piece. The water resistance should be 100 m, I am sure not too hard to achieve.
I saw this in my AD when getting my strap resized and couldn’t stop thinking about it! Went back a week later and bought it! 🤦♂️ I’ve got 6.5inch wrists and the 39mm is just right, but a 36 would look more dressy!
Have a relative small wrist (wears a 36mm Explorer 1) and still rocks the CK 859. My first Omega, something new in the collection. Wearing something different, everywhere I look is a Rolex.
I try this and after seeing this being reviewed on another channel ,must say that it's a nice looking watch leather strap with it had some marks on it. Glad to see that you can change the strap if needed!!one I've seen was in the 1600s number.
You are then, the Omega of watch reviewers!
A very imaginative opening! You are 'delivering the goods' - aesthetically - for your viewers.
Funny, looks like my Tourby Marine 40, except with a Sector dial. I like this Omega a lot. Previously I had an ETA 2492 driven Hamilton Navy Pioneer with a small seconds, which was a throwback to Hamilton's Marine Chronometers they produced during WWII.
Already then I marvelled at the wonderfully blued hands you could get for a mere 700 Euros. The Tourby was my upgrade of that, with a very elaborately decorated Unitas movement and a well placed small seconds complication. These are based on the ubiquitous deck watches that originated in marines and fleets across the world as well.
That said, this Omega seems the logical next step in such an evolution if I can convince myself to spend that money. :) Wonderful watch, lovely video with some nice historic background, as ever. I continue to like the fact that you place things in a context in every review you do.
As to your conclusions: The deck- and railway-watches these are ultimately derived from would have been pocket watches. Making a 36mm version of this type of watch requires smaller movements. I for one like a larger hand crank in a slightly larger case, because it connects to the pocket watches these came from. The same applies to the blued hands and non-lume dial. Given its progenitors, these hands really hit the mark. There's nothing like a pair of well made blued hands on a historic looking watch.
I urge you to check out brands like Tourby, Dornblüth & Sohn and finally Hentschel in Germany. That should by all means rock your boat if you like this.
Omega and Tag Heuer are my favorite watch Brand 👍
Oh, thank God! They made a beauty and didn't ruin it by etching boats and planes and such on the case back. Finally! Looks amazing.
P. G. Wodehouse is a favourite of mine. Jeeves is the man!
Brilliant episode despite disagreeing with you about this watch. IMHO it's ok. 39mm on my wrist (TGV's wrist is tiny) and wrists 7" and larger this watch is just too small and looks plain silly. Love the movement, the color and the casework yet it's too darn small for larger wrists. Don't get me started about the price. Rather would have a Longines. But that's conjecture and my personal opinion. Bravo TGV for another wonderful episode. Don't like the watch, IMHO.
Oh my god that intro was amazing
Freaking awesome intro. That's why I keep coming back!!
"never-ending pissing contest" lol 🤣
🤣🤣😉
Love it TGV! It kinda smells like your old WWII spitfire pilotwatch that you used to own!
What a beautiful watch. It has a perfectly balanced dial and those blued hands are just stunning. I can't remeber ever seeing a watch with same ability to set the time so accurately, of course I am not as knowledgeable as most when it comes to movements so please excuse my lack there of. All in all this is a great looking time piece. Cheers and as always, great informative review.
Yup, love nearly everything about it except for the size, no eye rolling here.
I saw this watch in Fraser hart this morning and it stood out to me immediately cool 😎 watch but alas I can’t afford it beyond my small wages but still a great watch. Love your video
A few weeks ago I did mention this Omega in your review of Dan Henry 1945. And here you are! Thank you very much for this review!
Thank you Rebecca 😉, it did not go unnoticed.
Best regards,
TGV
Like that model, but still prefer the vintage cal. 30T2 models…
Specifically the RAF HS/8 ref. 2292.
Thanks for the video!
What an intro!!! Unbelievable!! Love the watch too :)
Excellent context and history-rich review, TGV- and what consistently sets your work so positively apart in a growing ocean of watch videos. Fully agree this one is an (unexpected) retro home run (hit for six ?) from Omega-and can foresee it living in my watch box next to my vintage pie pan Constellation! Molte grazie!
Incredible and absolutely gorgeous! I'm such a sucker for domed glass and Art deco. And a NYC shout out to the Chrysler Building!
My only negative would be as a daily wearer the bezel may be a real “scratch munster”
Haha, indeed. Very true! One thing I like about vintage style watches compared to modern designs, they look better with more wear, as if they are actually old, but that is very much IMO.
Great comment, thank you Tim,
Best regards,
TGV
Sublime opening sir. Could almost imagine myself in a cocktail lounge in New York in the 30s drinking and listening to the piano 🎹. As you know I'm a huge fan of Art Deco myself. Gorgeous watch, great video as always many thanks
Thank you Chris, I wish I was in that lounge too, that kinda music/setting and cocktails, my kind of place.
You have great taste my friend, I struggle to think of a style better than Deco.
Best regards,
TGV
Hi tgv, I’ve just been and seen the new Jurassic park movie with my wife. And as soon as I saw Hugo appear I instantly “hello darling” every time he came on screen
🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏 Absolutely awesome, thank you for sharing that.
I hope you had a great time,
Best regards,
TGV
Definitely a beautiful watch, not buying it, too expensive but I definitely enjoying admiring it 😉
Thanks for making a video of one of my holy trinity of watches! Excellent.
OMG the movement machining details through the back are so gorgeous, that I might keep it strapped on the dial 🤩⌚🤩
