TGV of The Urban Gentry is now partnered with WatchBox and we're excited to welcome him to the channel via a personal conversation with Tim! The duo go over a variety of topics including the new partnership, their collecting philosophies, and personal collections.
The two start with a wrist check where Tim rocks his Sinn EZM 1.1 and TGV wears the "Pepsi" Rolex GMT-Master on a jubilee bracelet. Guys, I stumbled onto TGV a while ago, and quickly plowed through his videos and really started enjoying the hobby. I eventually branched out and found Tim / watchbox, and greatly enjoy Tim’s expertise. Perhaps a natural progression... I enjoy both channels

Interesting how on the Urban Gentry channel the comment section is full of comments congratulating TGV on his move to Watchbox, while here the comments are negative, and severely so.
That's because TGV deletes all comments which are critical of him / his channel.

I get that but most people who watch Watchbox are past the entry level (some undoubtedly sponsored) watches/watch brands that TGV is pedaling. Overall, TGV joining Watchbox, in my mind, clashes with Watchbox's core principles.

Daniel Bailey - I’ve managed multiple international brands over the last 6 years, and I personally don’t see a threat here. The reason being that Tim and TGV can coexist. Franchise customers who love Tim will still get him here, and hate in TGV vids... fine.. but watchbox gets the guy behind the biggest channel in the business. Whether you like him or not, he can influence the market, and you have to want that guy on your side. Just my opinion though.

The other actors on TWB were snobbish and reminded me of the average jerk of a salesman that works in jewelry stores. Agreed that Tim is on another level but TGV is much better than those other guys. Go watch his new Patek Philippe video where he obviously enjoys the watch and makes good points towards the target audience of the 100k+ usd price. TGV's video style of wearing around the watch in the real world is so much better than ONLY showing off the watch at a watch table.

TGV is one of the first watch channels that I came across that had the same enthusiasm for a 200 dollar watch as a 10,000 dollar watch. And though I've sort have outgrown his channel in favor of any and all Tim Masso related RUclips channels and Armand the Watch Guy, I'll always appreciate his contribution to my appreciation on the hobby.
psyphi407 I’m actually exactly the same. The Urban Gentry was my gateway to Watches on RUclips, although I haven’t seen any of TGV’s videos in a while, as I now mostly watch Watchbox and Federico. I’ve actually also been really enjoying Teddy’s videos, as he often talks about more accessible pieces that I can actually afford.
Watchbox is honestly just fantasy viewing for me, like watching Ferrari vs McLaren reviews. A man can dream though right?

Yeaaaa...... I do not see this lasting too long. Just like all other friendship or partnership in professional environment for TGV. Inauthenticity and forged gentleman such as TGV will eventually be transparent. His history of collaboration with other RUclipsrs have ended in sour note because of TGVs personal greed, jealousy, deceptiveness and ingenuine personality. This is why I do not think is collaboration or what ever you want to call this will not end very well. I will give 6 to 10 months. Good luck to Watchbox.
So can the same be said for the other channels who could not keep a relationship with him. Maybe he is the ultimate professional and the others are not.

What the...this was not the move WatchBox.
While I understand you are a business and partnering with TGV will give you exposure to a much wider audience of 330k subs and thus greater traffic and sales, you need to realize that this move diminishes the identity of your brand. I have been watching horological RUclips for years now since the days when you were watchuwantinc and TGV was under 20k subs. The reason people come to your channel is for serious, detailed, top notch watch content. TGV is a play for the beginners-those who want to scratch the surface of horology and be spoon-fed “top ten lists” with lackluster originality that pass the time.
If anything you guys should have partnered with a crew like TheWatchestv which would have allowed you to be connected with a group of seriously knowledgeable individuals located in Switzerland so you could have coverage of the brands on their home turf.
I hope you guys have a really good reason for this move and have good reasons for not choosing the other better possibilities.

How I feel about TGV aside, there's some pretty short-sighted gatekeeping here. 300k+ beginners basically represents a fresh untapped market for a high-end channel. Of course this is just the very top of the funnel, the expectation is not that all of these will convert into more invested enthusiasts. But Watchbox is sufficiently confident in their own value - as they should be - that they're betting they can convert at least a portion of those into WB customers. If your goal is growth, then it makes sense to go after new markets rather than constantly re-marketing to the same stale existing customer base.
His 330k subs are obviously boght. Watchbox didn't do their homework. There's no way in the world they're real!

I really can't understand how people can be so mean. Tim is probably the most impressive watch nerd I have ever had the privilege to view. TGV is a watch lover just like all of us. It's sad to see some of the hate come through on social media, especially in our community of watch lovers because we are supposed to be a different breed and somewhat family. I just got back from a trip to Guatemala and took a Stainless Casio. I didn't even want to chance loosing my Seiko SKX. At the end of my trip I pulled it off and gave it to my little cousin who couldn't believe what had just happened. It made my day! Now that kid will always have a first watch story to tell and I will forever be a part of that.

It was interesting to hear from both people at the table. I won’t be watching in the future to look at G-Shocks. Tristano looked very nervous and almost out of his depth already but, Tim was a very accommodating influence and carried the conversation calmly.
I do hope that we are not going to have to get used to hearing “Ciao” at the end of videos and live-streams!

@@dailytimes6787 I think you're mistaken what he was saying. If it would've been 50% dislikes (of the total), it would've been about 300 likes to 300 dislikes. In this case the dislikes are 50% of the likes but 33% of all votes combined.

TGV: I have been a fan of your channel for about a year and wish you well with WatchBox but can I give you some advice? Show up prepared and rise to the occasion. When you're sitting across from Tim and cannot remember a reference number for your favourite Rolex, it comes across as very lazy and sloppy. I've noticed you often say how you can't remember this or that. Drop this bad habit and start remembering otherwise you'll forever come across as a hack.

I am so excited to see where this goes. I was always into watches, to some degree varying over time, but TGV ignited my passion and led me to start my own strap review website. Small scale stuff, but I am proud of it all. The watch community is not a zero sum game and there is enough room for all of us to enjoy and grow! Good luck to Tim and TGV
I'm relatively new to the RUclips watch collector world, but I am familiar with both of these guys. I was excited to see this posted, but damn it was painful to watch and nowhere near what I expected. Yikes. This was eye-opening for sure.

Putting Tim together with TGV really showcase the different classes of these two. Tim is one of most respected guru of watch enthusiasts. Tim is honest, incredibly knowledgeable and GENUINE! Plus he’s very humble and approachable. I love Tim very much. TGV otoh is the equivalent of used car salesman of watch collecting. He’s a sell out for $$$, he will sell DW or MVMT to you if they sponsor him. Sleazy greasy.

I’m a longtime subscriber of the TGV Channel. In it, he quotes one of his first watches, the one which brought him into this wonderful hobby, as the Omega Seamaster. He never once mentions it in this video! Makes me wonder if that childhood story had any truth to it???
Tim appears confident and to really know his stuff, the other guy seems awkward and disingenuous, almost like he shouldn't be there and knows he shouldn’t.
