Call of Duty Modern Warfare is a very influential game but how will it rank on my ultimate FPS tier list? I decided to rank some of my favorite FPS games of all time. I'm going to be talking about Call of Duty, Mirror's Edge, Alien Isolation, Doom, Rainbow Six, Deus Ex, Halo, and dozens of other popular FPS games.

CS in b tier I mean, I guess it’s not for everyone and it is an opinion but it’s an instant s tier for me.
Breaking my heart with Prey. Awesome aesthetic, uniquely organic interfaces that were a part of the world, thrilling enemy encounter design, intriguing story featuring Benedict Wong, another banger of a soundtrack by Mick Gordon, and a mind blowing opening that set everything off. Just dumped into D tier without another thought. :(

Original Resistance Fall of Man was the first online MP I ever played and I still yearn for that feeling while playing a game. The online user created playlist is something i have wished for years COD had. Great list so far, still watching....

Crysis 2 was massively underrated. It had awesome advanced movement and stealth movement, several years before Titanfall, advanced warfare, or any of the other advanced movement shooters.
Yes one of the best fps shooters out there. Crysis 1, 2, 3 all are best but 2 was the favourite one.
Golden Eye for the Wii will forever be my favorite. The multiplayer was a chef kiss

Titanfall 2 B tier? Campaign was, and still is, one of the most brilliant I played. TF2 would have been a cool game even in a live service environment like the modern gaming is today

In all seriousness, I get it. But CS:GOs basic nature is exactly why it's an S-tier to me as a competitive game.
People might dislike Counter Strike but for the life of me I can't understand how anybody can downplay its significance. It is the pinnacle of FPS games in terms of mechanics and fundamentals. If somebody can get to a point where they are good in Counter Strike they can easily pick up any FPS afterwards and quickly become a good player in that too because they will just have solid FPS fundamentals that almost NO OTHER fps game to this day emphasizes.
It teaches you great crosshair placement, how to clear angles, forces you to develop gamesense and anticipate what other players will think / do, teaches you how to play according to your weapons/ range and strengths. It teaches you how to peek shoot effectively and you have to learn when to engage, disengage, hold angles, swing, etc. Teaches you the concept of angle advantage and map control. If you want to get good at it you have to learn effective utility (can translate to great ability usage in something like Overwatch for example), and you also have to learn how to play well as a TEAM. You buy with your team, you coordinate crossfires with teammates, it teaches you how to trade teammates out, etc. You learn how to effectively isolate angles and split 1 v X's into several individual 1 v 1's to pull off crazy clutches. You can argue that any FPS game can do this for you but in CSGO its so much more apparent when you are bad and you will go nowhere if you don't truly just get good. This is a large part of why CS has been among the very top in esports for a long, long time. Still commanding million dollar prize pools and millions of viewers over 20 years later.
I was a hardcore gamer for almost 10 years on console and was well above average on every FPS game I played before I made the switch to PC a couple of years back. When I look back on it, I was top 20% or better in most FPS games as a console player while still having pretty mediocre fundamentals across the board. I've since put 1,000 hours into CSGO and I am so much better at any FPS game I play its not even funny. It makes you view every game differently when you can truly just understand it from the fundamental level that Counter Strike allows you to look at it from.
CSGO has stood the test of time for exactly that. Simple but HARD

I know you didn't play OG Quake, but that game was hella innovative (technical sense) iirc CoD and Half Life wouldn't exist without Quake because they used modified versions of Quake's engine, and I think alot of FPS games can trace back to Quake in one way or another. Hopefully you can play through it someday, it had a really well done remaster by nightdive and the game has a super unique atmosphere and gameplay that still holds up well

The flood of people playing it in 2023, despite being 7 years old proves it's an A tier game. I would have put it in S tier, even though Titanfall 1 does indeed have better mechanics.
Nice video Drift. Agreed with most of these, though my main complaint has to probably be Killzone Shadowfall. That game required teamwork to play and good aiming for sustained periods of time further,( emphasizing the # of friendlies and positioning advantage), lots of objective work, and generally a stunning aesthetic that did well to showcase the new PS4's power at the time. Otherwise, a very interesting video, almost a gaming history lesson for a some of us. Looking forward to more of these.
Doom 2016 had multiplayer and they pushed it HEAVY.
FEAR was the first game to have AI enemies that would communicate with each other and strategize against you, and they would communicate to each other with voice lines like "I'm pushing up, cover me!"
Prey in D tier 😦
CSGo by far the best FPS pretty much most played and higest viewing figures in comp saying that CS skill based movement and recol is bad is a horrible take, sounds like a skill issue
CSGO is horrible, worst online community I've ever seen, not to mention it's also the biggest group of no lifers who play games 12 hours a day. If you wanted to punish me in jail make me play csgo

Doom 2016 did have multiplayer
I knew you would and I was glad to see the respect put on team fortress 2. that game was a landmark in gaming and influenced every single shooter game that came after it in subtle or explicit ways. it singlehandedly shaped the way so many developers consider character silhouettes and class roles, and has one of the most timeless aesthetics of any game to date.

One that is missing is the original Ghost Recon which where you could play each member of the squad in fps. Brilliant!

Goldeneye....split screen mayhem that sometimes ended in real fights between the 4 of us playing. That game was so good that it deserves the #1 through #10 spots of best FPS games.

Literally, Doom/Goldeneye/MW/Halo are the Mount Rushmore of FPS games.
ghosts gets too much hate. It deserves some, but it wasnt the lowest tier COD like so many people claim. Multiplayer was OK, not horrible, and extinction was really slept on. I believe it would have been huge if IW advertised it better. It was super fun when you had a full group of people who knew what they were doing
I loved og Mirrors Edge and was really excited for Catalyst, but when it came out I was immediately put off by the decision to shoe in an open world, collecting, skill trees and other things, seemingly just for marketing. These thoughts were with me throughout my playthrough of the all the way until I finally got around to finishing it, however I noticed that after I beat the game it really stuck with me for whatever reason.
Sure, I don't agree with the direction of the game, but once I got over that I actually started thinking about how much fun I was having just moving around (I actually prefer it to the original now, atleast when you get past the skill tree), and the graphics and vibes are immaculate. The story is predictable and corny, but I feel Faith is still just as as much an inspirational hero as she was in the original.
I think you forgot Medal of Honor (don't feel bad everyone else forgot about it too)
Drift0r not playing the old battlefronts but played the new ones is wild to me.
Also MW2019 is not on the level of those A tier games
The OG BF2 still holds up today. If I want a fun solo shooter experience with a quintessential star wars feel, I boot this up on my xbox 360

When you talked about Overwatch, I am now convinced in playing it.
Is it worth playing right now on ps4/ps5? Is anyone playing that game or dead like Advanced Warfare?
One of the main reasons I didn't play it was, I didn't play games like this where it has character rosters in shooter games with different abilities. Great characters but no story mode? I didn't want to buy it.
And it somehow got Game of the Year, over my previously favorite game of all time, Dark Souls 3
The servers are shut down for Overwatch 1 as of a few weeks ago unfortunately.
You'll have to play OW2 since 1 is shutdown, it's free and much better than OW1 and a story mode is coming later. The monetization model is abysmal though
It's free now because the sequel was essentially just a massive update.

No clue where you're coming from saying Titanfall 2 was slower than 1. Momentum was a much more of a crucial mechanic and they tailored the actual movement mechanics and maps to it. Much more competitive because of that.
Here's to hoping this video's didn't play section will serve as an itinerary as to what games you'll play next and what videos you'll make later.
BioShock is a masterpiece and it should be on S tier. BioShock Infinite is another masterpiece with all of its DLCs. I almost cannot enjoy any other fps game's campaign ever since, especially on the story department.

You dont give Halo 3 credit, but it was insanely creative they released the file sharing system w/ photos and videos, forge design, and was one of the firsts to adopt the weekly multiplayer playlist.
Halo 3 brought so much new to gaming that it’s hard to even list everything that game did that we had never seen before. Halo 3 was an absolute package of a game and I’ve still never seen anything like it. Idk if we’ll ever see anything like the Halo trilogy again.
I looked at the topic and thought “eh I never played a lot of FPS outside of COD.” And then I looked who it was and figured “eh he probably knows what he’s talking about.”

1. I totally understand why you made this list even without playing half of games on it, but I was expecting way less to be honest. Surprised you did not play FC4 or Dishonoured

This tier list is B tier
Cod ghosts was pretty good
You've got yourself caught in a logical quagmire. This list could have been a most innovative fps list, a best of fps list in relative terms (given how good each game was on release), or a best of fps list from the elevation of today, looking back down the years. What you can't have is a best of list where bonus points are given to innovation, that raises them into a higher tier.
Why?
Because sooner or later you were always going to revolt against your own system. The moment your mind rebelled once at the notion of an absolute favourite game being placed lower than a game you know is worse, a better game was going to be placed in a lower tier to something that simply had more innovation, you were ALWAYS going to try and find a way to circumvent/circumnavigate your own rule set.
And so you did!

So did Doom 1993 on PC. I recall getting a 14400 baud modem and playing pvp on doom on a 486 Dx2/50.
Was the first pvp shooter for many. True innovation.

I hated when my friends wanted to play Cod4. I always just had way more fun playing Halo. Now a days I prefer Cod. It's sad what's become of Halo these days.

@21:40 Idk know if it was the first, but the OG Doom was the very first multiplayer game that was mainstream and popular. You would use dial up to basically LAN with a friend. Doom undoubtedly a pioneered the online FPS genre @Drift0r don’t disrespect your elders you little whippersnapper 😂
You’re right and I’m shocked he didn’t mention this. It had 4 player deathmatch which wasn’t seen in any other game at the time. It definitely belongs in S tier

@@cgpxae2119 They're really not. Titanfall was something that was both innovative, and refreshing at the time, and was what the industry needed, and still does need.
Since Titanfall, there hasn't my been a franchise that's been equally, or more mechanically brilliant than it is.
Haha me and you for sure disagree on some of cod. Best cod mp to me is MW3 tied with BO2. And Infinite Warfare is the best advanced movement cod to me. The only part I liked of BO3 was its Zombies.
Though I love MW19 and agree with its A tier ranking.
Halo Reach is S tier.

You need to play Bioshock Infinite though I think you would love it. It is not like the other ones in the slightest and the campaign was very awesome as well as interesting.

You should play Bulletstorm.
Its my favorite FPS of all time and ive played Doom Eternal, Borderlands 2, Borderlands 3, Wolfenstein 2, Black Ops 3 and Far Cry New Dawn.
The reasons why is the gameplay is so much fun. Why? Well, because you get to do a thing called Skillshots. Where you kill your enemies in creative ways like shooting them in the nuts and kicking their heads off and getting 500 points for it. Another reason is the weapons. The weapons are so fun like the Boneduster shotgun. Its a quad barrel shotgun and with charged shot you can instantly turn all the enemies into dust.
Third, Overkill mode and Duke Nukem in the remaster. In the remaster, you get to play as Duke Nukem and get a mode called Overkill mode where you get to play the campaign all over again but with all the weapons.
I would say more but you have to play it for yourself.
Multiplayer and singleplayer FPS should be in different tier list.

Half-Life (better than Half-Life 2) The darkness, F.E.A.R., Halo 3, Blood Dragon!, and Black Ops 1 better go right up there into S tier. Black Ops 3 goes down to D tier. At least we both agree that Prey 2017 is extremely over rated. Man, why did they even use that name. Makes me so sad. Prey 2006 was so good and prey 2017 had nothing to do with it. I'll be bitter forever lol

There are some crazy inaccuracies on this list bruv. Halo CE did not have online multiplayer on consoles - only on PC that released later, Doom 2016 did have multiplayer, you counted CS GO as CS 1.6, and gambling/loot boxes were not introduced in 2004 with CS source, that was CS GO in 2013 😂 We would be screwed if that were the case. Still a fun video though!
Man, watching this video felt like csgo and Val don’t even exist.
Any list that puts BF2 at the top is always worthy, such a revolutionary Shooter game (CoD 4 onwards and other shooters with persistance would not exist) and has absolutely S+ Tier Map design (Map design onwards gotten worst, to be frank the focus away to more "flashier" map design with gimmicky degardes the combined arms focus) and cool mechanics that sadly was dropped from the franchise and that along with 2142 had the Battlerecorder which was such a cool thing.. I really wish we saw a BF game like. Also 2142 (sadly which you haven't played) had the GOATed Titan Mode which had the cool ending of destroying the enemy Titan inside and *then* jumping off the Titan which in some ways had to be earned which Carrier Assault in BF4 was a lame imitation due to setting.
On some choices wouldn't really put Deus Ex, Fallout Bethesda Games or Mirror's Edge as they really aren't FPSes TBH (Deus Immersive Sim, BGS Fallout FP RPGs & Mirror's Edge more Action Adventure).

Infinite warfare had customizable score streaks. I would do questionable immoral things to get customized score streaks back.
although i admit is was forgettable, doom 2016 did have a multiplayer and it wasn’t too bad. it felt a lot like that portal/halo mashup that was popular last september
