@@dnrob7 to be fair alpha and beta radiation are actual physical particles. gamma, yeah is just light. @@chriskelly4299 Alpha emitters, yes. The particle shot out as an alpha emission, no. Unless you are taking in an "emission" that is still a heavy atom that wants to keep dividing.. but this would be a "daughter nucleus" (radioactive material) and not an alpha emission. Turns out that even though it is dangerous, it is not a hellfire instant death zone. Well, some part of it may me. Like the Elephant's Foot. But most of it is not the Elephant's Foot. They could die if they get too close to the really dangerous parts.
I wouldn't call them "fine" Anything can happen down the road because of what they encountered. I would be surprised if none of them get cancer within 10 years
I think the were more in danger by being hurt or killed by falling or something falling on them than by the radiation. Most of the time it was just 3-5 times higher than normal background, and never got to a value that you can get on a commercial flight. I carried a geiger counter for many years, and on planes was the only place where it really went up, 50-100 times background. Radiation is generally not healthy, but not as dangerous as most people think.
They aren't carrying much radioactive particles, but the radiation still affects your cells and they can't test for that, it has to be recorded during exposure
@@Merciless_Banana I have read several books about nuclear physics, dosimetry chemistry and biology, also have watched freely available courses about radiological protection from the IAEA and I did a social service for 2 and a half years on a nuclear medicine hospital. Doesn't take much to figure it out. You have to know the amount of contamination present and the kind of isotopes which is freely available information, also you have to know about biochemistry to know how the isotopes behave inside the body, they also have a dosimeter with them, with that and the activities they perform you can make relatively accurate estimations about their dose received and how much internal contamination they might have. That water wasn't that bad he didn't drank it and inside the reactor 5 there is no serious contamination, Cs-137 and Sr-90 are main isotopes that give off radiation in the exclusion zone, they aren't absorbed thorough the skin that easy.

They have been swimming and walking at another part of Chernobyl nuclear station, not radiation poisoned. This part have been constructioning, when the disaster had became. It has similar form and look as 4th block, that had exploded. After 30 years radioactive isotopes mostly went away in cause of half-life, raining and disactivation procedures in 1986. Radiation levels are not too high at this territory now. another energy blocks have been working till 2000s.
Ladies and gentlemen as lovely as this might seem there is still alot of inaccurate information in this video, i work in the medical field and radiology is no matter to be taken lightly.. Take heed, all im saying.
ever since the new sarcophagus radiation background are pretty safe there still hot spot but there slowly going down at that point the only really dangerous place left are minimal the liquidator did a good job the most dangerous part of reactor 5 is not the lower level but the roof and reactor room since it was where it was open during the explosion

That nurse gives off such badass vibes.
It’s a Russian thing. She’s amazing
Ya eh?
I think she is a doctor/ technician not a nurse

She legitimately mentioned stalkers in a professional setting. What a world we live in.
@JohnnyCarterMusicOfficialfrom what I remember, stalkers are hikers who habitually explore the illegal parts of Chernobyl/Pryprjat. If I'm not mistaken, some even organize tours for non-stalkers, but I'm going off of memory here.
The lady that works there is an amazing healthcare worker, very forthcoming and informative. 10/10
Radiation is life, but if there’s a lot of radiation it’s death! How profound!
@cd rom she probably meant hormesis. possible positive effects of low dose radiation.
i personally have never found any reason we NEED radiation.... it just exists
@cd rom i don't think it's the only way mutation occurs to be honest, just one way it could
nice theory that radiation is essential to life, not sure about that one myself
Everything in excess is bad.
Pick a dimension. This one or a higher vibration. Lulz
What an amazingly lovely lady. In the UK if you went to a hospital filming and saying you had been in a radioactive area you would get very short shrift. Her bedside manner is better than most GP's I have been to see.
Massive respect.
I'm surprised because Sus has a glow about him now. That means either radiation or pregnancy.
I didn't wanna be the one to say it first. But I'll be the first to say this is fucking hilarious.

Randomly found one of your Chernobyl videos, now 5 hours later I’m still watching/listening to them. That lady was cool and informational.
I love how this hospital was equipped with those diagnostic machines
Comes with the territory so to speak
Well, they are close to Pripyat.
I like that they call the people who wander the zone 'Stalkers'. Seems like everyone is using the expression.
In the USA these tests would cost $50,000+.

Shes really knowledgable. Great that she talked you through it all.
I love that doctor. Explaining everything and when they spilled their beans she´s like well let´s just have one more test.
Her expression tells it all at 8:19 when Alex shows her their total recorded dose.
Yep the machines she is using on them are for actual radioactive dust/particles that might be on or inside their bodies. They do not however detect the damage that has already been done to cells and the body from direct exposure. That is what the dosimeter readings are used to calculate, and they don't appear to tell her their total dosage during their full excursion, but rather just how many Microsieverts where being detected at their highest reading area (during this trip).
Thats a hell of a facial expression! When i seen her make that expression the first time i watched the video, I was thinking WTF was that?? I had to rewatch it afew times. To me it definitely deserves a spot in the next glitches in the matrix top 10 video.
Really strange zone out moment
Very nice lady.... She took more time to explain your results than my doctor does on my yearly blood work and physical... SMH
O stop no doctor in America gives a real physical. They just ask if your healthy u say yes and they say okay. End of story
She probably isn't motivated by money.
@@SpencerHHO simple people from Soviet Union was not motivated by money! pure love for all that you doing
love the way you can just turn up and have a rad test in a hospital. in the uk you'd have to wait 3 months. on the other hand, you can't just have a quick swim in pool next to a nuclear reactor either.
That doctor was awesome we need more like her.
The Soviets had good stuff. I have used some of this equipment in my nuclear physics lab
Wow a physics lab
I don't know about that. I always have to hand measure all resistors cuz writings are not accurate.
The big spectrometer at the end of the video is american made. The chairs also are foreign made, the only soviet/post-soviet thing in there was the feet/hand meter.

It probably is, they're expensive and if it ain't broke
man im glad you guys are okay, saw those chernobyl videos and was thinking you guys were gonna have something bad happen
Keep Sus, but Comrade is a danger to all your lives. Sus is good for exploration videos. Someone could end up dead and one you guys or comrade could end up in jail. Good job Sus never swallowed any radiation
Sus is alright.
Comrade is so infuriating.
Any radioactive material*
You can't swallow radiation, that's like saying he swallowed light. It's the thing the light is coming from that you have to watch out for.
@@dnrob7 to be fair alpha and beta radiation are actual physical particles. gamma, yeah is just light. But ingesting alpha particles is possible and by far the most dangerous type of radiation to get, it won't do anything to you externally if you are wearing clothes but once inside your body it wreaks havoc.
Beta emissions are electrons, so again, no, it's a one time bullet. That round is spent. It's not going to fire again.
I thought the exploring was a bit careless, but definitely entertaining! The trip to the hospital was awesome, though! Thanks for this, guys!

@@david2727 thank you for your advice 👍🏼
Good God lord,im baffled! i do not understand how you are all fine! This was utter insanity! My brain is throbbing just from the stress of watching you guys in Chernobyl. I can’t. I’m relived you are all ok ,especially Sus ,when the skin was coming off his hands my heart dropped i thought he was a goner, and radiation poisoning may be the worst way to go. Ah im so glad i found this after you were checked, i was so stressed, I need to go lay down and never watch you do something like that again.😵💫
I would be surprised if none of them get cancer within 10 years
I think Chernobyl was a hoax. No way they can be cleaner than a person who takes an iodine tablet.
Radiation exposure also caused increased risk of heart disease
I think the were more in danger by being hurt or killed by falling or something falling on them than by the radiation. Most of the time it was just 3-5 times higher than normal background, and never got to a value that you can get on a commercial flight. I carried a geiger counter for many years, and on planes was the only place where it really went up, 50-100 times background. Radiation is generally not healthy, but not as dangerous as most people think.
How is it that these guys got less radiation actually swimming in the chernobyl water than the people walking through on the safe trails?
Because it's inaccurate testing.
because just because its in chernobyl doesnt mean its automatically radioactive, they just happened to avoid the hot spots
They aren't carrying much radioactive particles, but the radiation still affects your cells and they can't test for that, it has to be recorded during exposure
Valentina should be sponsored!
Great insight into a working system, getting tested for that amount of money by nice and educated staff...

That's because they have no radioactive particles attached to them. The damage has already been done, but they are no longer radioactive
I wonder if they know about them lol
These guys SWAM IN THE WATER right at reactor #4 where it’s been flooded out and this was the most damage it did?? That is still mind blowing!
They can't true know unless detectors were on site when they entered the water. The damage is done already
The danger of radiation is grossly exaggerated by most due a great lack of understanding. What happened here is perfectly reasonable and expected.
@teresashinkansen9402 what are your qualifications for this statement please?
They went to tractor #5, which is nearby but unfinished due to the accident.
I am sorry for all the Americans in the comment section that never seems to have had a positove experience at a physician. This is a pretty normal interaction over here in Europe
The fact that she told them they could pick the peppermint bed in order to make tea!! I love it!
This video is hilarious. The amount of character in the way you guys look and the weird voice inflections of the translators crack me up 🤣
How do we not have Universal (totally free) healthcare in the USA still?
Is that not an obvious answer lol? As a medical research professional the US healthcare system is fucked. Plain out incorrect research studies (funded by pharma companies) just to support either useless surgeries or ineffective but expensive medicine. The US is studied by other countries as how not to run a medical system.

Looks like 50 year old tech mixed with modern tech.

They didn't just visit Chernobyl... they swam in water and went diving with no dive gear, just wrapped in tape and a fish bowl, all to try and reach the actual reactor... crazy mayne! Dive Talk reacts to the videos where they're doing all this stupid shit.

That is some cool retro equipment! However still working perfectly! Love it!

Ladies and gentlemen as lovely as this might seem there is still alot of inaccurate information in this video, i work in the medical field and radiology is no matter to be taken lightly.. These tests are all well and fine but there is not alot of credibility in them, plus blood work still needs to be taken 2 find any type of deviation to dna, paying a lowely 12 dollers is not the be all end all when it comes to cancer. Take heed, all im saying.
The divers that went under the reactor the let the tanks drain when it was burning, were about the only ones that was not affected by radiation.
That "I will shoot you in the face if you trespass" sign is awesome :D

You guys are extremely lucky. I just knew for sure all that radioactive dust was going to take ya’ll out..great content 🙏🏽🤞🏽
ever since the new sarcophagus radiation background are pretty safe there still hot spot but there slowly going down at that point the only really dangerous place left are minimal the liquidator did a good job the most dangerous part of reactor 5 is not the lower level but the roof and reactor room since it was where it was open during the explosion
