Of course there is no right and wrong, but much of what he seems to like looks terrible to me. But he is right in objecting to other things and he is right about some in my opinion. All about what looks good.
This dude is not an expert... You can’t wear a regular neck tie with black tie. Notch lapels is not a good look and historicaly inaccurate. Almost everything he says is wrong.
@@andrewkim1667 the fact that you can look this up in 1 minute by reading about classic mens style. There are strickt rules to black tie that should not be broken, and he pointed to a few there...
Classic menswear enthusiast here. In my opinion Black Tie should be viewed for what it is. It is a classic dresscode that follows some very specific rules that leave enough space for everyone to throw in a personal touch. What we are seeing today is the "personal touch" aspect of it completely overpowering the "classic dresscode" aspect. In my own opinion that is simply incorrect. Classics are called classics for a reason. They are meant to be enjoyed the same way today as they were 100 years ago.
As a classic menswear enthusiast I suffered through first two minutes and stopped watching after he said "you can wear a black t-shirt with a tuxedo". 😳
I love that you said you don’t care if someone staples the hem 😂, I had to wear a tux for symphonic band in high school, my pant legs were to long, I wanted them to meet the heel of my shoe instead of stepping on them, my mother didn’t own a sewing kit and wouldn’t pay for me to have them sized so I stapled the hem to where I needed it lmao. I didn’t have black staples though so I colored all the staples with a sharpie 😂😂😂🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
He nailed it when he said don’t wear a watch with a tuxedo. When a gentleman is wearing a tuxedo, the only source of information he needs about the time is the sunrise.
i also deeply appreciate the realism with how he talks about this. its not about the material or the pricetag or any of that, its about you and the decisions you make with what you are wearing. as it should be
i honestly don't know that he's breaking down these specific people's tuxedoes but more so, just giving his take generally on what he likes in a tuxedo and what he doesn't like. i would love to see him actually break down a couple different looks and not jump around so much like he did here..
This is why I wear a neon pink, leopard print tuxedo with rainbow steel toe boots, and both a neck tie and a bow tie. It fits my style, and looks great. It pained me to type this, but also gave a slight giggle while thinking about completely outrageous things
This is no expert. Notch lapel on a tuxedo? NO. Never. White pearl buttons? NO, it is either a shirt with concealed placket with mother-of-pearls buttons or a shirt with studs (MOP or black studs). No clip-on ties or bow ties. IN ADDITION, it should be a patent leather shoe (opera pumps or capless oxford shined).
Getting a fitting suit for you is as good as feeling when you walk in to a barbor shop and know exactly what kind of hair cut you want and telling them with confidence and having confidence in how you look. At least it feels that way to me
so true. Unfortunately no one in hollywood or mainstream media, not even a so called "tuxedo expert", can get black tie right! 😭for a real tuxedo expert, ask me, or better yet, seek out the Gentlemans gazette and their black tie guide!
I disagree with him on many occasions. Black tie has certain rules. And you need to follow them in order to look the best and to look correct. And a flower like a big red flower on an ivory jacket it looks fantastic. And that man is paying zero attention to black tie. He says he goes by classic rules but he thinks it's ok to wear red socks. You wear black socks so there's continuation between the shoe and trousers. Whoever listens to that man is gonna look terrible on a tuxedo. Btw,if you don't want to go black. Go midnight blue. It's darker than black and it looks amazing
One thing I definitely have to argue with is his no timepiece opinion. Every man, regardless of occasion or event, needs some sort of wristwatch. It is the sign of someone punctual, organized, and well kept.
Great advice I got was to buy a tuxedo second hand on eBay. Tuxedos don't get worn much and if you really check the sizes you can buy a £1500 tux for £150. Go classic because it will never go completely out of style. Generally, with any suit, know your real sizes. So many guys wish they hadn't put on weight and are still buying for a size smaller. You are not fooling anyone with your tight trousers and the pockets sticking out like rabbit ears. Then keep it totally sealed suit bag and it will always be there if you need it.
Saying he likes two button single breasted tuxedos, and notch lapels means that he is in fact not a tuxedo expert. Because neither of those are actual Tuxedos.
I'm an artist and I love this video so much. It's very informative and it actually helped me draw my characters better in a tux to make them look right and classy.
