  • David Coverdale's vocals on "Here I Go Again" were so sultry and smooth, I knew y'all pointed me in the right direction. I still plan on hearing him in Deep Purple and alongside Jimmy Page, but first I wanted to hear one more Whitesnake song from your top recommended!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Whitesnake and David Coverdale performing "Is This Love" for the first time.

The way the video shows, there are scenes where David is in the background of the scene. Tawny is in front of the screen. I think this is him imagining being in the scene. When the video cuts back, David is no longer in the scene.
He is imagining if he was there, what he might be able to say.
He doesn't say anything - an neither does she. They are not both there at the same time.

I definitely would prefer to hear Elizabeth do the earlier stuff- Burn is an ESSENTIAL album. Live at California Jam has Burn, Mistreated and more that show Coverdale's raw power. The post 87 album production just couldn't be sustained live, and sadly his live voice deteriorated badly by 1990ish.
Starkers in Tokyo showed that he still had the low register- Don't Fade Away and Soldier of Fortune are great on that, but his high register elsewhere is often very painful to endure live. Such a shame.

"Still Of The Night", then "Crying In The Rain", follow those with "Give Me All You Love". Also, there's no reason for him to say sorry. The song, lyrically, is about physical separation from the one he wants to be with. The realization that he doesn't feel complete when she's not with him, and constantly thinks about her when they're apart. He's realizing the emotion he feels is stronger than anything he's felt before.

You've got to understand that this song was THE rock ballad of the late eighties. Right there with Heart's Alone, Leppard's Love Bites, Bon Jovi's Never Say Goodbye and Poison's Every Rose has its Thorn.
So now that you've done Here I go Again and Is This Love - both featuring the lovely and much missed Tawny Kitaen - you have to complete the trio in this story with Still of the Night. Entirely different vibe and the last great rock epic imho...

Thin Lizzy will be a wonderful rabbit hole for you to dive down. Some criticize Phil Lynott as not necessarily being a technically proficient voice but oh, the feeling he could wring out of a song. Plus, his lyrics were often amazing. Lots of eras of Thin Lizzy, Job Sykes was there for the last album and tour. The golden era of the band features guitarist Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson and lots of great material to choose from. The songs "Still in Love with You", "Don't Belive a Word", and "The Sun Goes Down" would all be interesting journeys.

Speaking of sharing musicians, the bassist in the video is Rudy Sarzo. He started to rise to fame in Quiet Riot in the L.A. scene. QR was Randy Rhoads' band. When Bob Daisley was ousted from the Bilzzard of Ozz band because he objected to the firing of Lee Kerslake to bring in Tommy Aldridge (who is also in this video and the Ozzy/Randy videos). Randy offered to quit Ozzy in support of his new friends as well but they convinced him to stay so Randy helped get his pal Rudy in Ozzy's band. That was Rudy in the live Ozzy/Randy videos. After Randy passed Rudy went back to QR and they finally hit it big with Metal Health. Rudy was also in the late career Dio videos you did. The soloing guitarist in the video didn't write this solo, but he was Dio's original guitarist and wrote most (all?) of the solos you've heard from Dio's solo career. Bob Daisley not only composed and recorded those early Ozzy songs with Randy, he was they main lyricist, you never saw him with Ozzy, but you did see him with Rainbow.
