NIKON Coolpix 990 - The odd thing from 2000 - still good in 2021?

- Thousends were waiting for the arrival of the next big thing in premium compact cameras. It was one of the most eagerly anticipated digital cameras in the year 2000 and the subsequent success was great. An outstanding form factor, good lens and macro functions that manage to impress even today lead me to ask myself the question: Is the Nikon Coolpix 990 still worth it in 2021?

I just reviewed the 990 and was really surprised about the how good the images looked. Colors straight out of camera looked way better compared to my iPhone 12 pro. I really wish Nikon would bring back innovative designed bodies.
and people still say that Phones are making 'normal' cameras obsolete smh

My first digital camera was from 2000-- the 2 Megapixel Pentax El-2000.
Wonderful video and explanation!! you might have convinced me to buy this! Also, I love the voice narrating this video.
You did not comment on the telephoto and wide angle lens adapters. I sold mine I often wished I had is back.

It was a fantastic form factor for candid shots... also it was built so well nothing later can compare ))) I purchased one in early 2001... was Canadian $1000 !!

Great video, and great photos taken. Which is the biggest compact flash in Gigabytes? 1., 2 or more? to support by the 990
fun fact: it could shoot raw DNG via a painful diagnostic mode. Those files had very funky colors though which needed to be fixed in photoshop using the hue/saturation option
I have the 950 model, and it has a TIFF uncompressed mode (I used it for scan some negatives with the slides adapter) the 990 hasn’t the possibility of taking TIFF photos?
If I attach the medium lenght of tripod mount at bottom of the camera will it hold the battery door after latch broken?

I have the coolpix 990, and for about two weeks now I have been buying and returning compact flash cards because they are either too new or too big, do you recommend any brands to buy for the camera?
I still think those photos look great, even by todays standards! I worked at Best Buy in 99 when this camera first came out. I wanted one so badly. But they were a little too expensive for me when I was a kid lol
Goes for 30-40 bucks on eBay. Never too late to live an old dream.
What is the transfer speed of the CF card you use for this camera?
Hi! I use a 1GB SanDisk Ultra II SDHCF card with 15 MB/s in there.
