  • I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing to get caught up in a gimmick, but this time I definitely am. I got this camera at a tag sale for a few bucks, and it's definitely not perfect. But it's really fun to use, and it's helped me look at photography in a new way. In this video, we take a look at the Nikon Coolpix 995.

    Hi Elias, the limit switch on the base serves to prevent the lens part to swivel down beyond the horizontal position by the weight of an optional lens converter. It may be confusing since the lens stil move back to the up position - that means - it limits the movement instead of locking it. About the front 8,4 volt port, it was used to power the camera direct from the AC outlet (via an optional adapter) witch is quite useful in some situations like studio or lab work.

    I've actually been using this camera in my photo studio for model photography for 3 years. There is a little round knob somewhere which you can remove by rotating it. (It has thread). Underneath it is the connector for a 'hot shoe' cable from Nikon. On the hot shoe I had mounted an IR trigger which triggered my 3 studio strobes. The camera and hot shoe were mounted on a bracket. In the studio I only used the M-mode, just like you do with a DSLR. With the highest image quality setting, I was able to have photos printed in a photolab up to 30x40 cm! This camera was my first step into the world of digital photography. 3 years later I replaced it with the DSLR Olympus E500. This was a Four Thirds System camera. At the moment I'm using the DSLR Nikon D5200.

    This was my first digital camera. I had been using film cameras since the 1950's using 4x5, 120 and 35mm film. I bought out when I was living in the London area. I used ir when I traveled around Europe in 2002. I was very impressed with the results. I stopped using film cameras because of the convenience. I stopped using it after I bought a Canon 20D camera. I am going to take it out and start using it just for fun. I even purchased three auxiliary lenses and want to try these.

    great video brother. found my moms old 995 a while ago and recently wanted to get it back to heath, bummed about the video drawbacks but i’ll definitely have to get a cf card for it and start shooting!

    I have the previous model, the 990, which is the best of the 3 versions that came out. The first, the 900, had less megapixels than the next 2. The second & third (your) had the same greater megapixel count and were identical in most every other respect except for the fact that yours had a bit longer lens on the telephoto side than the earlier pair. Unfortunately, that larger lens made the housing impractical to continue making with steel for some reason, so yours was made of plastic & clunkier looking than the earlier models. Consequently, the second one was the sweet spot. & there’s nothing wrong with your grinding lens drive, these models all sound like that, like there’s something amiss. I know two other people who have this camera, & they sound like mine. You’ll also come across other owners on line with the same noisy complaint. P.S. - I also have a Canon G model from around the same period that sounds similar.

      Haha I know the video is not very good, I wouldn't recommend it for videography! One can try though

    I use it strictly for macro in P mode on a tripod. Capable of good results. Fun as well.

      Also experimentation other modes. Now I attach a monopod to aid with focusing when in the wild.

      I took most of my photos with it, the ones without the fisheye would be the ones without. I think the 950 is pretty similar! Let me know how it goes

    What is the largest memory card that this camera can use?

    • @EliasOlsen
      @EliasOlsen  Год назад +2

      I use a 32GB card, which I imagine is way beyond what the intended largest card is, so you could probably go as large as you can afford. 32GB is way bigger than you'll need, though.
